After Liz moves from the UK to America the two accidentally land jobs at an up and coming media company that is testing their very own version of a modern day Dear Abby/Agony Aunt advice column.

New author British Julie Bromley has collaborated with American K A Young author of many books including her latest, The Molly Maddison series. Together they came up with the idea of The American and The Brit. I believe the characters in the book work so well together because of the fun friendship in real life between the authors.
The story is all about the girls falling into a job quite by accident, making them online newspaper agony aunts. Rather than making their column serious, they have great fun with it, and the combination of the sometimes very daft letters, and the girls' witty responses has the agony aunt section taking off in a big way. The girls go from being unknown, and poor, to being famous and at last able to pay their bills.
Of course the story isn't only about the column they write, it's all about the girls friendship, their love interests, and the funny people they encounter in their everyday lives.
There are some very funny moments in the book, you won't be able to put it down without having had a good laugh.
I am not sure if the authors are intending to write a follow up to this book, but if they are, I look forward to reading the next escapades of the American and The Brit :D

This book is good for a lot of laughs. The characters are definitely quirky, at time outrageous and this would make a good, light summer read for someone who doesn't want to have to think too hard about what they are reading.

The only issue I had with this book was that sometimes, I really had trouble suspending that any character could be so foolish. Yes, at times the antics were funny, but other times the characters came off as unlikable airheads, even a little mean. The descriptions of the men involved were hilarious.

Overall, it wasn't a bad book and I was glad I read it. It made me snort inappropriately in public.

This review is based on a complementary copy from the publisher, provided through Netgalley. All opinions are my own.

Laugh out loud! I haven't laughed so hard from a book in so long! I am sadly one of those hard to please comedy, readers. There were moments where I had to put the book down since I was unable to read through tears of laughter. I squeak from laughing so hard. There could have been snorting. I know for a fact that I laugh so hard no sound came out of me. My children were sizing me up for a new jacket. This Book has earned the High Honors of being place on my "Happy Shelf" I can't wait to see what Liz and Phoebe get up to next. I am recommending this Book to EVERYONE!

I was hoping this book to make me laugh... it did... but just a little... and the more I got into the book the more I got bored... I really didn't like the main characters Phoebe and Liz... they were way to childish for me. I am a bit disappointed by this book. But I will still give it 3 stars out of 5 because it was still quite entertaining and I smiled from time to time.

This is a review for Netgalley.com

The American and the Brit is a hilarious book about two ladies who experience a mistaken identity opportunity to write a no-holds-bar advice column about weird, interesting and funny questions the public wants to know. The book picks up where Liz is coming to the US, leaving home-the UK, after Phoebe has convinced her to, and Phoebe getting fired from a crap customer service job, essentially because of Liz's airport antics and her inability to filter her thoughts. So they apply for a job and wind up getting this unexpected opportunity. Of course, being the wacky girls they are, they take it and have these crazy and embarassing adventures.

I loved this book because first of all, I love chicklit. Of course, being a twenty-something myself, I could relate to some of their thoughts, feelings, motivations, and need to live a carefree "think now, and apologize later" (or in their case sometimes... don't!) lifestyle. Of course there are a multitude of men throughout their life and a zany "best" friend/neighbor Hairy Mary. There were times I literally laughed out loud at their behaviors or circumstances. If you are looking for an easy read and fun story, this would hit the mark.

I only have a few minimal complaints, one of which being that.... I should have edited this book. Simply because there are a few grammatical errors that were present. At first there were some I was willing to overlook but after over half of the book there were still some more errors that interrupted the flow of reading, I have to put it in my overall feedback. My other complaint is in one of the synopses of the book, it said something along the lines of girls who were heavier or overweight or something... and one of them is only JUST bigger than a size TWO. Being a girl of size 18-20 that was a huge turn off for me, so I have to warn anyone if they saw that synopsis, be aware to be annoyed. However, it is rarely mentioned throughout the book, and while the girls are insecure, they also are there for each other in an endearing way to support and tease one another.

Where do I start?
From the first words I was promised a fun ride, and it delivered BIG STYLE. There were so many parts that had me laughing out loud, and an inappropriate places. And parts had me holding my bladder.
Phoebe is an American, living her life large.
Phoebe in her own words ... "My brain has no filter, ruining me from ever living a politically correct life." And phoebe stumbles from disaster to disaster.
Lizbeth is a stiff upper lipped Brit, her reserve doesn't deter her from being a great laugh.
The references that both make to their heritages made me chuckle.
So ..... Phoebe convinces Liz to move across the water, she gets her a job, she can crash with her, life will be sweet.
But with phoebe, life has a habit of biting you in the butt. Not only does she lose her job, she manages to lose her friends job as well. (And Liz hadn't even started there yet)
It's a rollercoaster of a ride. I haven't laughed that much reading in a long time.
It's a great read. And I'm hoping for another adventure with phoebe and Liz.
And I think Chocoholism should be a medical condition, in fact, i think I have it

Attention all chick lit fans who love to laugh - pick this book up immediately!

Lizbeth Bates moves from the UK to America to live with her American friend Phoebe Hawkins and they find themselves without a job. The road to a new job has never been funnier. In a case of mistaken identity, they find themselves employed with a website running a "Dear Abby"-esque column (which PS I am so jealous of and wish it was my reality!) Will they be found out? Will they be fired? Will they ever find a filter from telling it how it is regardless of the situation?

This book had me laughing one minute, shaking my head the next, and then laughing again. I will be looking forward to finding the sequel, and hope that this becomes more of a series. This was my first "new adult" book, and if they are all like this, then I will be looking for more.

I received this e-book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you Netgalley for providing me with this book in exchange for an honest review

After coming across numerous positive reviews, I was so looking forward to reading this book. I couldn't wait to sit back and laugh until I had tears.

How wrong was I.

Well, this just wasn't my brand of humour, I guess. I found it all to be in bad taste. To me, the plot was quite unbelievable and the characters too weird (don't get me wrong, I like weird, weird is good but not this kind - not for me anyway)

This makes me sad because I really wanted to like this book, but the only reason I finished it is because I don't like DNF'ing books.

This is a very silly, OTT, book that is almost the literary version of a sit com. Phoebe, an American and Liz, the Brit, are the main characters and are pretty likeable. The other characters are not very fleshed out and I’m not sure about any of the male characters at all (are we supposed to like them?! Who do the girls fancy? Everyone?! Is no one unattractive in their life?!), but it’s quite fun to read about their dramas. Nothing is at all heavy, it’s all very lighthearted and the perfect palate cleanser to read between the thrillers and emotional YA novels. It’s short, easy and hilarious (remind you of anyone ;)?).

I quite enjoyed this book about two friends Phoebe from the US and Liz from the UK. They met when Phoebe was visiting England and got drunk in a pub. Liz moves to the states and the two take on this crazy advice column. There is always wild over the top antics. I liked the banter between the two girls. I enjoyed the job issues but sometimes the craziness was a bit too silly for me so it got 3 stars not 4.

Imagine 2 Broke Girls, Laverne & Shirley, plus Lucy & Ethel in a modern day version of the shows. The A&B are broke, without jobs, & zero prospects in the near future. Willing to take anything that comes along they have a dream job fall in their laps. Here are 2 screw ups that can't even do that right. I found myself laughing out loud. Takes a lot for a book to do that! Yes do read this one.

Couldn't enjoy this one... The humour felt crude at times, and most of the time, I just wanted to yell at the characters to get their big girl panties on and stop whining. Sadly, just couldn't connect as these women read childish and making us think they were successful adults was a hard pill for me to swallow in this one.
