A double your pleasure duo of Pride and Prejudice variation novellas to deliver more heartwarming Darcy and Lizzy from a long time fav author, Kelly Miller.

In the first novella, The Love Potion, a kindness done to a young Romani child ends with Elizabeth receiving a love potion that she gives to the odious and arrogant Mr. Darcy. His behavior toward her seems to alter and, he apologizes for his remarks at the assembly. Was the potion real? When Mr. Darcy proves to be a gentleman she can respect and love, she is torn. How far will Darcy have to go to prove his love? Ah, swoon and wasn't Mr. Bennet roused from his books for once to do a romance lover a good turn!

The first novella had one wondering if there was a smidge of magical realism, as does the second story, The Pemberley Ravens.

In Diversions with Darcy and Elizabeth, author Kelly Miller creates yet another delightful variation on Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. In fact, there are two new variations, as the set involves two independent variations, each in its own novella.

In the first, Elizabeth has been humiliated at a public gathering by an arrogant remark on Darcy’s part. When she receives a love potion as thanks for helping a Romani child, she slips it into Darcy’s coffee as a small joke; she knows love potions do not work but seeing him consume one might be a satisfying retaliation. When Darcy becomes attentive and considerate, though, Elizabeth must question her rational beliefs and also make some important decisions! On the surface, this might seem an unlikely plot, but when Ms. Miller writes, everything that happens is very plausible. And explainable, too! Once again, although surface details change, characters remain true to their essential natures. My favourite is, of course, Elizabeth’s father—never has he been in better form than when he guides one suitor to a better choice! A warm and delightful story with a very satisfying conclusion.

In the next selection, Darcy and Elizabeth are living in wedded bliss when they encounter another couple in need of help—a pair of ravens, one of whom is ensnared. When they assist the pair, the ravens become loyal friends, greeting them daily and coming to their aid more than once. Underlying this plot, we have the arrival of a new servant whose past remains a mystery. Although she is a very reliable worker, she shares no information about herself. Who she really is and how the raven couple are instrumental in bringing the plot to a happy ending will be revealed to the reader.

As always, Ms. Miller remains true to the language and social conventions of Austenian times, and especially true to the essential characters of Darcy and Elizabeth. This shines through in their new situations, new experiences, and even new aspects of their lives. A most enjoyable read.

This book has two novellas a variation and a sequel to Pride and Prejudice. If you have not read anything by this author yet. It is a great introduction to her stories. She has written several great Pride and Prejudice variation novels.

The Love Potion is a pride and prejudice variation. Elizabeth does a service to a Romani woman, who rewards her by giving her a love potion. Elizabeth doesn't really believe that such a thing can be real. But decides to try it any way, as a kind of revenge. She gives it to Mr Darcy, thinking it is just pay back, for the insults he made. Well who ends up putting a spell on whom... And Darcy doesn't use a spell or potion, but some how manages to charm a certain lady any way ;-)

The Pemberley Ravens is sequel to Pride and Prejudice. The story starts early in their marriage. Darcy enjoys showing Elizabeth the grounds at Pemberley, where they continually meet the raven mates Rachel and Rollo. So that they begin to play a role in Elizabeth and Darcy's life at Pemberley.

I heartily recommend these two novellas. If you liked them, there are many other stories from the author to enjoy

Diversions has two very lovely Novellas. Both will hold your attention and your heart. Ms. Miller has a talent for tales of Elizabeth and Darcy. The first involves a potion--does it work? Or is it true love? I will never tell. For the second, it is at the beginning of their marriage, when emotions are high, and Darcy's protective instincts are in full force. It is one of my favorite endings in her books. I love her stories, and these two are wonderfully fun, fast reads. You won't regret purchasing.

I have already read “The Love Potion,” one of the novellas included in this volume, since it was featured in the anthology “In the Path of Jane Travels and Tales” edited by Carol S. Bowes. It did not stop me from rereading and enjoying it as much as when I read it the first time. In my opinion, a dash of magic and humour serves the romance between Elizabeth Bennett and Mr Darcy well. This novella is a real treat for all true fans of the couple, who have always craved to see more of their interactions on the pages.

The second novella, “The Pemberley Ravens,” was a delightful discovery. Especially so, for this summer, during our morning walks, my son and I started noticing interesting behaviour in local ravens and crows. First of all, we were surprised to see ravens at all. Unlike crows, they’ve always been a rare sight. But more than that, we were surprised to watch the birds communicate with each other and react to different situations. The most fascinating moments we witnessed involved the birds-mothers with their children. After watching them the whole summer, I can say with certainty that they are highly intelligent and versatile birds.

In “The Pemberley Ravens,” Elizabeth and Mr Darcy are married. Their bliss of exploring the extensive grounds of Pemberley and each other gets interrupted by several occurrences. Soon, they will have to learn that a curious but seemingly insignificant encounter with ravens is destined to play an important role in their lives.

I found the feathery additions to the Pride and Prejudice universe utterly delightful. The couple of ravens have distinct personalities and, as I mentioned earlier, they are crucial to the plot. I think that readers will also appreciate the author including common people’s stories in the plot. While it is understandable why it did not occur to Jane Austen to tell us more about the maids, grooms, and the cook, their stories might excite as much interest in modern readers as their masters’.

I have enjoyed all of Kelly Miller’s tastefully written, page-turning Austenesque variations, and these two novellas weren’t an exception. I always look forward to what this wonderful author will present her readers with next.

Diversions with Darcy & Elizabeth is a collection of two short stories, written by the author Kelly Miller. I always like Kelly Miller’s writing style very much and therefore enjoyed both stories very much.

THE LOVE POTION
Elizabeth encounters a young boy in need of help. When she brings back to his mother, the Romani woman gives her a love potion as a gift. First Elizabeth has no need for it, but then she decides to use it on Mr Darcy as a sort of punishment for his insult at the Meryton Assembly. But then, to Elizabeth’s utter astonishment, the gentleman seems to begin to care for her. And Elizabeth, by observing him closely, comes to care for him,
Is there a chance for a love being initiated by a love potion?

I have read this story before as it is also a part of the collection In the path of Jane Austen by various authors. I loved reading this story a second time.
I really like that, due to the love potion, Elizabeth pays close attention to Darcy. First only to observe if there are ill effects on his health, later because she is interested in him. I like that, due to her observations, she is able to put her prejudices behind and see the real Darcy.
Darcy, on his part, is able to show more of himself to Elizabeth and he also shows more of his interest in her so that their relationship can progress naturally.

THE PEMBERLEY RAVENS
During a ride Fitzwilliam and Elizabeth Darcy free a trapped raven. Soon they encounter the raven and his companion during many occasions and form a close bond to them. This bond proves to be very valuable during several situations when the ravens prove to be a much needed help.

I have not yet read this story before (a shorter version of the story was once part of a website) but I enjoyed it very much. I like the close bond Darcy and Elizabeth have to the ravens and how the ravens continue to look after and help “their” humans.
I also enjoyed the glimpse into Darcy and Elizabeth’s married life very much. I always like stories where we see how they fair after their marriage and how their love grows even more.
Darcy and Elizabeth’s love story is not the only one in this story, there is another relationship that is just forming. I like this tentative beginning very much and it made the story even more interesting so see these other two people forming a close bond.

If you like to read two different but equally excellent short stories about Darcy and Elizabeth, you should read Kelly Miller's new collection.

I highly recommend it

Very sweet novellas.

First one Elizabeth helps a young boy get to his Romani parents. His daj, mother, has a gift of touching someone and knowing their future. She gives a love potion to Elizabeth after saying a few things that lead Elizabeth to want to give it to Darcy to see how he would react. This shows some slightly alternate ways from the original that make perfect sense for E to believe it has worked, but E did not expect to fall for D. Precious.

Second one is contrary to the superstitions that people believed and some still believe to a Raven. But here Elizabeth and Darcy are already married and they save the female Raven after deciding to follow the male. I received an advance readers copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. It is a beautiful story of how kindness comes back to you. Very much enjoyed.

A well-crafted pair of variations, sure to delight any fan

The first of the two novellas, The Love Potion, was a delightfully whimsical read. Just the mere idea of a ‘love potion’ set in motion a whole chain of events that would be sure to bring a smile to the face of many a fan of the Elizabeth – Darcy relationship. The pacing is quick but concise, befitting the novella style. Time is given to get to know both Elizabeth and Darcy, their thoughts and feelings feel genuine and earned. The other characters which pepper the story, such as the Bingley sisters, are given just enough detail and characterisation to round them out. Although I’ve no doubt most will probably guess the ending early on, as I did, I won’t spoil it here. This story is very much about the journey, and, for me, it was well worth every second of it.

The second of the two novellas, The Raven, sets a very different tone. Though the story moves through many seasons, it very much feels like a wintery tale. But not in a bleak sense. The Raven is very much about the choice of kindness, and how it can impact the world around us. Or at least that was my biggest takeaway. As always Miller’s ability to capture aspects of Darcy and Elizabeth is very much at the forefront. The Raven doesn’t rush which allows both the emotions and the atmosphere to breathe. Also Rollo and Rachel are hands down the best original characters you could ask for.

Overall this pair of novellas make for a very pleasant read.

In “Diversions With Darcy & Elizabeth” by multiple award-winning author Kelly Miller, we have two stories to read. In the first novella, “The Love Potion,” Elizabeth is annoyed after overhearing Darcy’s unflattering description of her. She decides she will get back at him with a love potion. She was only half serious but then is alarmed when the potion seems to take effect. What will she do? Or does she even want the potion to stop? The second novella is “The Pemberley Ravens.” A friendship develops between Darcy and Elizabeth and a pair of ravens after they help one of the birds during their regular walk. The ravens thank them in many unexpected ways. Though both stories are delightful, “The Pemberley Ravens” is my favorite. I loved the antics and personalities of the two birds. Part of what makes Kelly Miller’s “Pride and Prejudice” variation books so enjoyable is her attention to historical detail. Her books always transport me to another time and place for a captivating and enjoyable read. I am so happy when I see a new one. I highly recommend “Diversions With Darcy & Elizabeth.”

Diversions with Darcy & Elizabeth by Kelly Miller contains two novellas: The Love Potion and The Pemberley Ravens, Pride and Prejudice variations. In the first, Elizabeth impulsively doses Darcy with a potion she received from a Romani mother to repay Elizabeth’s kindness to her injured son. Elizabeth doesn’t expect the potion to affect the the rude Mr. Darcy, she only thought the lark would gain her a secret giggle. The second novella is about Elizabeth and Darcy’s experiences with two nesting ravens. After they help free the female bird, the avian pair seem to adopt Elizabeth.
These homages to one of Jane Austin’s most esteemed novels are delightful, satisfying Regency era tales. I especially enjoyed The Pemberley Ravens and getting to peek in on the couple’s married lives. I like the hints of the supernatural found in both novellas. The addition of the traveling people in The Love Potion amused me. Anyone who loves historical cozies set in the world of Pride and Prejudice will thoroughly enjoy this book.

Carefully measured period prose with charming cadence

The prose captures period cadence with admirable restraint, navigating high-concept deviations without breaking historical decorum. Structuring the volume as two distinct novellas gives the narrative a light, episodic rhythm that prevents the whimsical conceits from wearing thin. Dialogue remains crisp, manners dictate the friction, and the emotional progression feels earned rather than rushed. It is a finely textured, gentle continuation that respects classical stylistic boundaries while offering an engaging, low-friction character study.

Kelly Miller’s Diversions With Darcy & Elizabeth is a delightful double feature for Jane Austen enthusiasts. Comprising two sweet Regency novellas—"The Love Potion" and "The Pemberley Ravens"—this collection delivers a refreshing, light-hearted escape.
The first story cleverly spins a harmless prank involving a supposed love potion into unexpected romantic chaos, while the second charmingly pairs our favourite couple with a pair of remarkably clever birds. Miller maintains her signature witty banter and warm pacing, offering cozy, low-angst entertainment. Fans of Austen variations will find this quick, whimsical volume an absolute treat from start to finish. A must read.

I really enjoyed both of these short stories. “The Love Potion” adds a new dimension to Darcy and Elizabeth’s initial encounters. I really liked how they actually talked to each other instead of making assumptions and distancing themselves. “The Pemberley Ravens” made me think that we have more connections to nature than we perhaps understand. It was interesting to see Darcy, Elizabeth and the staff interact in this post wedding setting all within the context of Rollo and Rachelle‘s presence.

I read an ARC and voluntarily am sharing this review.

The Love Potion: 4.25*
This was cute and fun - gave an alternate explanation to Darcy's behaviour in Meryton and a change to Elizabeth's perspective.

The Pemberley Ravens 3.75*
This one was fanciful, a bit OTT. Sweet, sometimes overly so, while still dealing with some darker subjects

Both are written from a first person dual POV - which I generally dislike. I can't say that I liked here, but I liked the stories enough anyway.

Elizabeth soon begins to regret her impulsive decision. Realizing that her actions may have caused more trouble than she intended, she resolves to make things right and repair the damage she has done. However, correcting her mistake is far more difficult than she ever imagined. What begins as a sincere attempt to set things right quickly becomes a challenging and uncertain undertaking, forcing Elizabeth to confront the consequences of her choices and find the courage to make amends.

two good tales

Two sweet stories. Quick easy reads with zero angst. I love ravens so the second story held particular appeal even if it was short. I highly recommend this book.
