Snake-shifter Sophia Samson is on the run with a knife-wound to the gut after her last con went belly up. With a mob man hot on her tail and her wound not healing like it should, she seeks refuge in her mother's childhood hometown, Woodland Creek. She slithers in through the back door of the urgent care clinic and charms the handsome doctor into treating her.
The shifters of Woodland Creek turn to Desmond Callahan, MD when they suffer from unique medical conditions, but when Sophia sneaks into his office with silver poisoning, it's obvious she has no idea there are other shifters in their small town. Desmond can tell Sophia doesn't want him to know she's a shifter - and that's not the only thing she's hiding. As a puca, Desmond has a few tricks of his own up his sleeve and he's not going to let the captivating Sophia slip out of his life so easily.

Sophia is on the move, running from a con game gone wrong. She ends up in an Emergency clinic with silver poisoning where she learns the town of Willow Creek is filled with shifters. She’s only ever known two shifters: her mother and herself. Desmond is the doctor that helps Sophia. He’s interested in her and when he realizes she may be in danger, he’s first on the list to help.
I loved Desmond. He’s a bit of a prankster and his humor is treaded throughout the story.
I received this book as conference swag years ago. I put off reading it because something about the cover was too creepy for me. So even though I’m a huge fan of paranormal romance, It sat on the shelf until now and a reading challenge. I’m glad I finally read it. It was entertaining and captivating with a few twists that were amusing.
A few typing errors in the print book that I’m hoping have been fixed since the 2015 publication date like the doctor’s name on the very first page! Push past it. It’s worth the read.
This was my first time reading anything by Aria Kane and I really enjoyed it. I was a little worried that Sophia was going to run at some point and I'm so glad that she stuck it out with Desmond. They were great together and when you add in Desmond's trickster nature it made for quite an enjoyable read.
And that twist at the end?! Totally not expecting that!
I'm still not sure what a puca is but I guess it doesn't really matter in the end :) If not for the rather abrupt ending with no epilogue this would have probably been a 5 star read.

Sibilance has to be my favourite so far because of the shifters chose for this story. I’m not familiar with Desmond’s type of shifter that he is but he cut the air. He t urned the novel from being a purely paranormal with dark romantic suspense thread to also being funny thanks to Des.
Our heroine Sophia is on the run for a reason and she gone the only place she knows that can be safe but doesn’t know much about . Woodland Creek, the hometown of her mother unaware that ti has its own secrets. A snake shifter, she believes that there is those kind of shifters in the world as she never met another kind until she forced to seek help for her knife wound and learns the truth.
From the moment that I learnt that she had knife wound and had her problems I knew it was going to be interesting as she is a bit of a cage character but adding Des took to it up another notch as we finally started to see the full picture.
Sophia has been sheltered somewhat despite her choices in her life that has learned to know. Her mother wasn’t the mother that any kid should have only teaching her skills that she thought would be good for her but Sophia has step up to the plate has realised and now she is at a crossroad.
She all serious about her situation and not willing to let her guard down and I love that Kane paired her with Des, who personality is relax to say the least and that he was willing to protect her no questions asked because he recognised the type of person that she was.
Despite that , I knew it wouldn’t be smooth sailing because of the vastly different personality types and I love how Kane played it out considering everything . Sibilance is a very entertaining book considering all things and is more then the run of the mill shifter book with the choice of shifter for Des.
I’m not going to reveal what type of shifter that he is as only adds to the charm of the story and the man but I enjoy this tale.
Minor spoilers may be ahead - Sibilance was a refreshing variance for a shifter. It started off at a really good pace and before I knew it I was sailing almost into the end of the book. Sophia is on the run back to a home that she doesn’t really know including the people and their secrets. As we get to know who Sophia is and her interactions with Desmond, we get to see a woman that has really been cheated by her mom on many levels. Desmond is so stalwartly, he’s there for the town as well as Sophia.
It was fun watching Desmond rig his home against the bad guys. Although it was a tad sad to watch his need to fix things cause miscommunications and push Sophia away. It is kind of entertaining imaging that a snake shifter and a puca would be attracted to each other. One would think that just by the fact of nature, that Desmond would be repelled by a snake. The twist that I was expecting at the end was not the one that I got. Sibilance wrapped up much faster than I was ready for but it was very enjoyable.
1st i want to say I m not a huge Paranormal person that being said I really enjoyed this story because both of the characters are well and I liked both of them .I like how sofia was a snake shifter and doc was a Puca. I hope to read more from this author.
I enjoy shifter books. I just never thought that I would read one about a snake. Sophia is a con artist who heads to her hometown. While she’s there a he meets Desmond. He was my favorite character! This is a quick read. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
Sibilance is a paranormal shifter novella by Aria Kane. It is stated that it is part of the Woodland Creek series and I’m going to need that to be a thing because this books sucked me right in!!!
Woodland Creek is a town of shifters, and I love it when an entire town (or close enough) is in on the big secret. Dr. Desmond Callahan has built up lots of trust in the shifter community by treating the town’s shifters in the local Urgent Care. When Sophia pops up unexpectedly he is intrigued and determined to protect her from what she is running from - he has no idea how much that loyalty his service has cultivated in the townspeople will pay off as he sets forth to help Sophia.
Desmond and Sophia have a amazing chemistry and I was pulled into their romance from the get-go.
I received an ARC of "Sibilance" from the author, in exchange for an honest review.
What an adventure, this is my first book I've read from Aria Kane, so I went in not knowing what I was getting into, this was much more. "Sibilance" is Aria Kane's installment for the "Woodland Creek" collection, a collaboration of 30 authors all writing about 1 little town in Indiana USA, I was intrigued with the concept behind this collection.
What a ride Aria takes us on, a snake shifter con artist, on the run, thinking her family are the only shifters out there. Running from trouble Sophia hides in her mums hometown of Woodland Creek, hurt she stumbles into the Urgent Care Clinic, there she mets fellow shifter Dr Desmond, her life changes from that point on.
I really enjoyed this book, but I do wish it was longer. I would love to read more from Aria also I can't wait to read what the others have written for the "Woodland Creek" collection.
Wasn't sure what I expected, but this was so much more.
I loved the snake shifter idea. Not only is it unusual for shifter stories, but the author made the reality so cool. Sophia's character got my attention from the start, and I felt it was a great choice to begin with the action already in progress. The author brought us up to speed while we were still figuring out what was happening now, which upped the intensity.
Meeting Desmond was a treat. His Puca character was also unusual, and his open, fun spirit was a nice balance to Sophia's more closed off nature. I enjoyed seeing them figure out how they worked together. Part of that was their shifters sides. Really enjoyed those scenes.
In the end, the bad guy was caught and some truths were revealed. I felt their commitment to each other so quickly, especially with Sophia's history, can only be explained as a trope ... be it romance, shifter instincts, or bonded by circumstance. However, overall, it was a nice ending for the couple.
Loved how no matter what Sophia will not let anyone tell her what to do it how to live. Desmond is a great guy for her willing To go thru he'll for her, that's love. This book was so cute, sweet. With a few twists I didn't c coming. Can't wait to go back too woodland creek for a visit
A snake shifter is new to me. I am definitely not a fan of snakes but decided to give this book a chance. I am so glad I did. Sibilance is part of the multi-author Woodland Creek series. It centers on snake shifter/con artist Sophia. In the course of a con gone wrong she is stabbed by a silver knife and is not healing the way she should. In addition to that she is being hunted by the mobster she conned. She heads to her mom’s small hometown of Woodland Creek to lay low until she does heal. When she still isn’t healing, she goes to a hospital to get supplies to treat herself. Luckily Dr. Desmond is there. It turns out he is a puca, another new shifter for me. Pucas are tricksters who can shift into different forms, most often horses (I had to look it up!) In a fortunate turn of events, Woodland Creek is home to many different shifters, so there is plenty of help for Sophia. I enjoyed reading about the small town and the development of Desmond and Sophia’s relationship. Sophia is prickly and expects nothing but the worst in people. Desmond is her polar opposite. He is easy going and congenial. I recommend this book to anyone looking for an unusual shifter story.
This book surprised me in how much I enjoyed it. Sophia is a snake shifter, who doesn't know there are other shifters. She is hurt and meets Dr. Desmond, who is a shifter puca and a trickster. He is a great love interest. I enjoyed how badass Sophia was and how she had realize that Desmond was the real deal. I'm happy they got their hea.
Short cute read. Con lady shifter meets shifter doctor. Fast paced, bad guy is looking for Sophia can Desmond protect her from him and convince her to stay. I enjoyed this quick read and I hope to read more by this author.
This is the first book I've read by this author. But it definitely won't be the last. The characters were engaging, the writing was smooth and easy to read, and the plot had a few surprises that kept me guessing.
I look forward to reading more by this author and recommend it to anyone who likes shifter books with a HEA and a sprinkle or two of humor.
*I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange of a honest review*
The Writing: The writing was okay. The chapters weren't too long or too short. We read from two POVs: Sophia and Desmond. That was great because these two are quite different and their perspectives of things were different too.
The Story: This is a short, easy read. I loved the world in this book. I decided to accept this copy because: snake-shifter. We don't really get to read that often about that kind of shifters. And then there are bee-shifters,cat-shifters,puca-shifters, the world is so diverse that it was very interesting to read. This book happens in three or four days, and there is romance. One of the things I'm not sure I liked that much was the relationship. My main problem with it was that, in three or four days, yes, you are attracted with someone, get with him/her really really well, like you've known that person for a long time, but you really don't. And I felt like those 'you-are-my-one-and-true-love' vibes and in my opinion that's very unlikely to happen. However, I enjoyed the romance and reading these two. They had problems but they got through them. The end was unexpected and surprised me the conclusion of this story.
The Characters: Sophie: She was the one who had a development. This new reality and her problems made her change her perspective. She changes in this book but for good. Desmond: He was so sweet and kind. I loved his relationship with everyone in Woodland Creek.
This is a sweet, short, easy read. It has romance and 'kind-of' action. Plus, shapeshifters of all kinds.
I would recommend this book for people with 17 years old or more because of sexual content.
Okay what to say, what to say. I liked how this book was written, however I think it would have been ten times better if it had been a little bit longer so that it didn't feel as rushed. Sophia is a con artist who learned everything that she now knows from her mother. When a con goes south and Sophia is badly hurt she goes to the one place that not one of her aliases have ever used, Woodland Creek. It is where her family has lived for generations before her mother decided to leave it when she was younger. Desmond is one of the towns doctors who happens to treat those who are shifters. Desmond was definitely my favorite character out of everyone in the book because he didn't give up on what is right. And man when he became all macho and commandning my temperature rose right along with Sophia's. And may I just say I want a Puca shifter to come and join me, I think it would be amazing ;) There are some spicy sex scenes in the book so just be on the lookout.
Sophia Samson is a snake shifter. She is on the run after a con gone bad. Stabbed with a ceremonial knife she is suffering from a would that won't heal.
Johnny Valrico is a mobster that has gotten away with many things. He won't let her get away with trying to steal from him. She runs hoke to Woodland Creek to heal before she can get further away.
Desmond Callahan is also a shifter as well as a doctor in Woodland Creek. Not everyone knows of the shifters there and he uses his clinic to help any injured or sick shifter. He happens upon Sophia when she break in for meds and dressings for her in healing wound.
This book was very well written with many twists and turns. Many different types of shifters work together to help Sophia through her time of need with Johnny closing in.

I rarely encounter books who uses 3rd person POV. Sibilance is my first I guess. I wasn't used to it so at first I was really behind on what's happening and kept back reading.Every page has got me pumped though confused with the POV. I'm confused at who's feelings who. The Plot twist? I didn't know it was coming. I should've known by that time but I didn't. If it could've been written through the characters POV, THIS HAS BEEN THE BOMB!
Sophia is a wounded snake shifter making her way home to Woodland Creek to lay low. Luckily, she meets Desmond who is a doctor and knows immediately what is wrong with her and cures her. Desmond is a puca. Woodland Creek is a town full of shifters that look after each other and have kept their secret from the humans. The person Sophia is hiding from manages to track her down. Sophia needs to figure out if the way she was raised is the way she should continue living her life. I enjoyed this story.
I love a shifter romance and this one had me hooked from the start. Sophia isn't used to needing help so having to rely on Desmond is definitely not an easy ask for her. I liked watching her try to fight her growing attachment to him. Desmond was the perfect romance hear. I liked the world building too. Having shifters running around a town in secret is always fun! I will read more in this series!
When a con artist snake shifter meets a Puca Dr , the situation can get very entertaining. Throw in a psychopathic monster, and a town full of shifters, and you have a delightful mix. Spice it up and it’s a great read.
Now this is one of the more unique shifters in the series, and I loved it. I loved Desmond, the doctor who appears in more than one other story of the series, but I had NO IDEA he was a...secret! I can't tell you because it's too cool to learn what he is. But, I freaking love those, and to top it off, Sophia is a snake shifter- and she is cool! Des is the cool headed, rational doctor of shifters, while Sophia is more... spontaneous, yeah I'll go with that one. LOL She is on the run from a scary man. Seriously scary. And Woodland Creek is the only place she thinks she can be safe, at least for a minute. Sophia has no clue that almost everyone in that town is a shifter of some sort, but she is in a for a big shock. Her mother always told her that she was cursed not gifted where as most of the other shifters love what they are. But she arrives hurt and breaking into a doctor's urgent care office, and that doctor happens to be Des, who stumbles upon her naked, bleeding in his broom closet. LOL It was scary but funny at the same time. Sophia is scared, and hard, where as Des is funny and caring. They are polar opposites but make the perfect couple. I won't lie, there is lots of giggles for me in this one. I also had a seriously emotional almost breakdown moment, to learn the things that Sophia is running from and then the issue with her mother. Be prepared to be in for an emotional ride, but it's worth it! The writing is fantastic and I couldn't put this one down. I am actually glad I kind of read most of the series in alphabetical order by their title- it helped me keep track of which ones I read LOL- because I had read several before this one. It made it more touching for me to see Sophia and Des work out. And I loved that Des knew he was attracted to Sophia immediately but was willing to protect her, secrets, baggage and all. Overall, I loved this one, and it's a 5 PAWS for me :)
I'm not a big paranormal romance reader (something about getting it on while in beast mode), but I was pleasantly surprised. Ms. Kane does a fine job of blending the paranormal with the romance (i.e. no beast mode boning). Sybil and Desmond are the perfect match of wisecracks and wit and I really enjoyed their banter. As this is a contemporary romance there is the requisite conflict, which comes in the guise of an ex that doesn't know when to let go, although I kind of thought Kane was going to go into another direction with Sophia's past . When things come to ahead in the third act the big reveal seemed out of left field and out of step with the rest of the story. The ending is tidy if a tad cutesy. Sibilance is sexy, short, and sweet. I look forward to visiting again soon. Thank you to the author for the ARC.
Sophia Samson is wounded and on the run. The only place she can think of to go is Woodland Creek, the nowhere town her mother grew up in. She is not healing the way her Snake shifter metabolism normally would. The ceremonial knife that she was stabbed with must have been special. Doctor Desmond Callahan is a Puca shifter, working as a doctor in a town with so many "Others" means he gets some strange cases. When he finds a naked, wounded woman in his storeroom it's obvious she is something other than human. There are some really strange types of shifter in Woodland Creek. They provide us with laughs as well as excitement. Our heroine has no idea there are others out there who have an animal side to them. For someone who has lived by her wits for years she is incredibly innocent. Our hero as a Puca is a trickster, not the most dangerous of shifters, but he does have lots of good friends that are willing to help when danger comes to town. A good fun read.
This was a short but really wonderful read. FUll of mystery and intrigue, sex and romance.Full of steamy sex.
I was very suprized that there was any romance at all. At first I just thought it was going to be a simple novel about shifters and a girl running away. But then Desmond showed up and boy was I shocked at what came after.
The authors description of Desmonds character, of his physical attributes just made me drool like a little schoolgirl. He never leaves you bored, you are always guessing what he will do next. Now I am curious about this Puca. haha.
Sophia is such a complex character. All the family issues she dealt with because of her insane mother and her crazy ideals about men. Its amazing she even lets Desmond in, let alone falls for him as much as she does.
Amazing novel, I cant wait to read more from this author. She is a truly amazing writer.
Green tree python shifter, Sophia is on the run from her Mark that tried to kill her with a silver knife, and the only place she feels safe is in her mother's and grandma's house in Woodland Creek, IN. On her second day their her stab wound is worse then ever and he find herself shifting and climbing through the A/C pipes. She never expected to find the shifter doctor Desmond. Sophia doesn't know there are more shifters then she thought, especially a town pretty much ran by shifters. Her past is coming to get her and the good doctor, a pacu, actually it's a Irish trickster and can change into a big black horse with super speed, sees Sophia and feels things he hasn't before. He wants to be her hero, protector and he sees a future with his charming snake shifter.
Sibilance was not what I expected. It was better! It is the story of Sophia, a snake shifter, and Desmond, a puka. It was a blend of PNR, romance, suspense, and humor. The story was well-written, flowed smoothly, and kept my attention from beginning to end. Plot twists and surprises are found throughout the story.
This is the first book I've read by Aria Kane. I look forward to reading more of her books. I highly recommend reading Sibilance. If you aren't a fan of shifter stories, this story might change your mind.
First I received this book as an arc for a honest review. I'm so glad I went against my nature (I'm terrified of snakes) and read this book. Sophia is a shifter (she shifts into a snake!) on the run from a mobster who caught her stealing from him. She has a silver wound and Des is the good doctor in town who finds and treats her. He tells her most of the people in town are shifters of some type, he himself shifts into a giant puca horse. I really enjoyed the fast pace and excitement of the book along with all the characters of Woodland Creek as I read the book in one sitting.
