There was a good girl, there was a bad boy and there was a bet.
GOOD GIRL, Astrid Bailey was a sixteen year old who never got into trouble and was happy to be hidden behind her brother's (school's Golden Boy's) success.
BAD BOY, Kai Asher liked to make inappropriate sexual innuendos, messed with law and broke girls' hearts. He was intense, rough, sexy and definitely something. He also just moved in next door.
THE BET was made between the jocks so that one particular player had to try to win over the most hard to get girl.
The bad boy turned out to be not so bad, the good girl turned out to be not so strong and the bet made it possible for their worlds to literally collide when they got into a car accident.
With endless of fights, drama and heartbreak, Astrid was torn between her former crush and her new love.
Wattpad writer from Slovenia. I wrote my first three books at the age of 15, one of which received Watty 2015 Award for Collector's Dream (most added stories of 2015) and was Amazon's double best-seller.
I don't even know, why I give this 2 stars. It was. Waste. Of. Time.
Waste of perfect time.
I could do so many things. Instead I just read this book.
Jesus. I'm dumb as fucking shit. My brain, reading this, stopped operating.
The reasons why? Here you go:
She was calling him, all the time, bad boy and bad boy. Why? Because he is popular at school and fucks some chicks? That make him horny. But not bad.
He, on the other hand, calls her princess.
He claims, the first time he speaks to her, he knows her very well and when he is saying some shit, she thinks he is correct, but you know... She doesn't agree because she is proud, or whatever.
I would like to believe, though, there is more to the main character of the book I'm reading about, than some arrogant shit some dude, that doesn't know her, says about her.
Then, there some maaarvelous slut-shaming as well because, why the fuck not? She is the good girl. Good girls can judge what other people do with their vagina...
The girl she talks about, has done nothing to her personally. But you know, she is sleeping around, so lets all call her slut! Because it's ethical to judge people like that!
And of course this story is full of stereotypes. Boring, offence as fuck stereotypes.
The romance, is not even a romance. I think, almost everyone likes her. And there is a bet somewhere that is mentioned a couple of times through out the whole book, and revealed only at the last chapter, where she leaves like a fucking coward and doesn't face the situation, ask for explanation, or anything. Really anything would be good.
Also, her parents are never home.
Her friends knew about the bet and never said anything.
The hero is an asshole. (While they are on a date, he makes out with another girl.)
Everything is shitty. I'm fucking frustrated. Nobody, can give me back the time, that I wasted reading this book.
I think, I'm over this review, it's late at night and I think enough, is enough. Fuck this book, and fuck my life. I actually kept reading, because I thought... You know what? It might get better. Hold on in there, sister, hold on in there. But you know what? It didn't get better. It was, a sort of nightmare. Though, the writing style didn't suck that much, but still. It wasn't special.
It was not a bad read, but it was not amazing either. However, I do love a good cliffy and now I want to read the other books in the series.
Astrid did get on my nerves and she was too much with the besties who really treated her like crap. Astrid just never learned. Some parts felt like fillers and I did end up skimming some of the scenes with her annoying friends.
I wish that some of the things that Astrid experienced, it would have been shown more then just told to the reader. Astrid explains in the end to her mom about how exactly she is bullied, but I wish those scenes were shown/in the story. A lot of the scenes with the "besties" could have been eliminated and scenes with Astrid being bullied could have been added. Some things that Astrid was upset about seemed a bit too much too.
Astrid is driving to school with her twin brother when she is hit behind by her new neighbor, Kai. Kai is the hot bad boy at school who does not date. So when he drives Astrid to school on his motorcycle, it raises a lot of attention. Attention that Astrid does not want or need since life in high school is not always so great. Astrid likes to read and stay in than go to football games and parties. She has two BFFs at school, but they seem to leave her out of things or not always there for her. Plus, her twin brother, Connor, who is a star athlete at the high school, does not treat her any better than the rest of the school. After the accident, Kai seems to be showing more and more in Astrid's life and from there the story begins.
Flawed. This book was very close to being dnf'd. The concept of the story pulled me in as most bet stories do but this was just no up to par for me at all.
My issues: 1. Lack of parents
These kids are underage and at home by themselves ALL the time. They tried using that the parents were trying to teach independence but no they were just never there.
2. Diary
I'm not 100% sure but I think this whole thing was supposed to be her diary. But that's no how it was written at all. It was written as a story with dear diary written at the top of a few chapters.
3. Astrid She is the type of main character I can't stand. There was no depth to her character and she whined and complained about her life being hell when really there was no true back story besides her late best friend passing but besides that and horrendously written bullies, nothing actually happens to her up until the end. It also irritated me that she repeatedly kept saying she was a loser, loner , shy...yet she's had 2 guys stay the night with her ....ggaaahhh
4. Kai Bad boy? Not really. The only Bad Boy aspect he had to him was that he rides a Motorcycle and sleeps around.
5. Unnecessary characters Soooo I don't think they really needed to mention any of Kay's family and the sudden throw in of her grandparents irked me. Aswell as additional characters that didn't really bring much more to the story.
I thought it was fantastic. Probably one of my favorite books I have ever read. I majorly recommend it. I pictured the characters with different people than the author did, but I found it more fun and personal. The ending was sooooo unsuspected, but so is life so it was appropriate. If I could say anything to anyone who is thinking about reading this book, it's this: Don't think of it stereo typically. Many people when they hear the title they probably think it's about a teen girl and teen boy and romance and all that. But let me say this: it is made up of all different genres. It has suspense, sadness, and yes romance. However, romance isn't the whole entire books. It's not 100% what you think when you hear the title. It's about how not to judge people, about trusting people and not trusting people, mourning death of close ones, and how to deal with the bad things. There are many life lessons inside this wonderfully-written book. So yes, it might be cheesy and yes, it might be romantic, but it is perfectly written. I rate it 5/5 stars. Totally recommend it. (btw I showed it to my friends and they read the first chapter, and were immediately hooked. I think you will be too.)
It's my first time writing a book review. I just cannot stop myself. I have to let other people know that this is the worst book ever. I don't understand how people can like this book. It's written like a diary of a young girl and that's just it--a book that seems like it was written by a 12-year-old. Don't waste your time. The plot does not get interesting.
What the ever-living fuck was this? I hate wasting time. HATE.
Thirteen reasons why not to read this book:
1. I realized quickly that this must not have been written by someone with English as first language. I see I am correct. This is all fine and dandy. I applaud you for being bilingual. But, find a proofer or editor. I volunteer as tribute.
2. How was Kai a bad boy? Because you told us?
3. Astrid sucks. So do her friends. If you're gonna be a pushover, anti-social pansy, what kind of behavior do you expect? I'm not condoning bullying, or being an asshole, but she let her brother and friends treat her like shit. DON'T be their friend, don't engage. Talk to your brother (who is your TWIN!!)
4. I HATE HATE HATE stories where someone died and it completely changes someone's character. I lost both parents, and other people close to me, and I didn't turn into a melodramatic agoraphobic.
5. Nath? Most people with the name Nathaniel go by Nate or Nathan. I don't know any Naths.
6. Matt. He's insane. I think he read some Penelope Douglas books and thought, I'll try that tactic.
7. Was this whole thing supposed be diary entries? I can't tell where the diary part ended and where it began.
8. You mention Astrid was "on pills". Please explain. When? Why? How? Why never bring it up again?
9. So many comments were made that didn't make sense. I don't even know how to explain this but I mentioned some of them in my highlights.
10. Nathaniel was always there for you? When? Oh, when it was convenient for the story? There are way too many convenient details added in to make the story flow. Example two, the winter formal.
11. All these dudes like you, but you're a "nerd"? And they treat you like shit?
12. Continuity errors. I highlighted some.
13. That terrible ending. I don't even know wtf that was. And damn my OCD for making have to read the sequel. Fuck.
This book.. Wauw.. It just wasn’t very good. I don’t know if I just wasn’t the target audience for this book. But it just felt so immature and... bad. It wasn’t for me
Disclaimer: I can't be objective because my sister wrote this book and I am so damn proud, but I will do my best.
This book is incredibly witty and has the most relatable main character I've encountered in a while. The book is written intelligently and it's funny. Story is mostly light but it also touches a couple of dark subjects (grief, anxiety, etc.). I loved the ending and am really looking forward to reading the sequel.
Dear Readers of my review, I highly recommend this book to all of you. The book is worth a read. It's a cute story about a beautiful, smart girl - Astrid, crossing paths with a handsome bad boy - Kai. As simple as it seems, it is a fun filling adventure. ONE WARNING - YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO FIND SOME KAI ON AMAZON OR FLIPKART, NEITHER HIS CUTENESS - 'CAUSE HE'S SURE GONNA MAKE ALL YOUR BOYFRIEND STANDARDS HIGH ;)
SO all over the place, as I write this I thank the spirits I didn't buy this book. Kai and Astrid are just not interesting enough. The peripheral characters are ambiguously written and the abuse Astrid suffers makes this book a chore. I'm being kind with a 1.75 star review.
Kinda a complete mess. Like was there an editor involved her? The writing was terrible in terms of grammar and flow and nothing really made sense.
One of the main issues was that every single character was pretty much the worst. -Astrid, the main, was everything I hate in a Mary Sue. She's one of those "I'm so ugly and everyone hates me because I'm a nerd who READS! BOOKS!" when she's actually pretty (don't worry, she straightens her hair and gets ombre so everyone else finally sees that she's pretty) and has like ten guys who are into her. This trope is not good. It just isn't. And she has a good voice, or something? Also, you're not special because you read books. Everyone reads books. (Though I approved of her love of Clockwork Angel ) - Kai, the bad boy (?). While I'm glad this wasn't the type of story where a girl falls in love with a guy who physically hurts her, Kai was kinda a dick. So he was a jerk, but I don't know what made him the biggest bad boy in the school? Was it the motorcycle? And he's secretly a bookworm, isn't that special. Also, he's randomly Astrid's neighbor now? And he climbs through her window and hangs out in her room without her permission, but we're fine with that? - Connor, Astrid's twin. He and his many football friends were trash. They kept doing this thing where they'd treat Astrid like dirt, and then she'd mention something about people giving her a hard time, and they'd get all overprotective and be like, "who's mistreating you?! we'll kill them!" It's you guys, damn it! Also, he didn't behave toward Astrid like a brother behaves towards a sister. I'm just gonna leave it there. - Astrid had two generic friends who were actually terrible, plus her best friend died in a plane crash, or something. The two pretty, generic ones felt like Astrid should just get over it. - Towards the end of the book, Astrid's grandpa dies, and you just can't care. She's like "we were really close. It may not seem like it, but we were." Yeah, doesn't seem like it because you literally have not mentioned grandparents until this moment. And oh my gosh, Connor and Astrid's parents were an absentee nurse and lawyer, and it was just the author trying to not have to deal with any sort of parental sense. Like we saw the parents two times, they're only home a few times a month or something? Nope. - Everyone was just annoying and the dialogue was stilted as heck. - You thought this book would involve a bet of some sort, but it really didn't. - And then what on earth was that ending? Astrid's abruptly ?? - Was this supposed to be Astrid's diary? Because let's be real, adding "dear diary" at the beginning of /some/ of the chapters doesn't make it diary-esque.
I'm so so angry but I also read this in ten minutes and obviously want to know what happens next?
This book was nothing like I expected, the ending shocked me to the core and the banter between characters was on point, as well as all the cute book references. But I’ve got to tell u, the characters, plot and writing style was all over the place! There was a tonne of grammatical mistakes, the characters personality’s kept doing a 360° turn, and they’d turn into someone completely different, I couldn’t tell what all this ‘Dear diary’ shiz was about, and the protagonist would go from being called “pathetic” and hated, to being one of the most popular girls, with all the boys crushing on her. So unbelievably unrealistic it actually started to become funny! But seriously, that ending made me go from being super grateful the book was over, to wanting to read the next one like that 👏🏼!!
Great concept. Not sure about the execution. There seemed to be a lot of back and forth between the characters and I just couldn't connect. I do like the strength that Astrid showed at the end.
I listened to this book in audio. The narrator did a great job.
All I can say is. This was 3 stars until the last chapter. An ending is a conclusion surely? Should it not tie up all the unresolved issues? Did Astrid not hear that running away from your problems doesn’t work? Now I’m left with the problem of anger because she didn’t confront her brother or Kai (even though he’s not really done anything wrong but she needed to go off on him so he could say he loved her and live HEA). What an unsatisfying conclusion. Oh and can we quit calling hot popular boys “bad”? Hardly a bad boy by being a bit of a player 🙄
Don't waste your time. This book needs a lot of work done on it. Nothing about it seemed real, there were so many flaws in logistics, and I felt like there was no motivation for any of the characters' actions. I hate to leave a negative review, but I really wish the reviews I had read had been accurate.
The emotions!!!!! Way to many. This was a thrilling read that kept me on my toes. I never knew what to expect. The characters have all touched me in a way and the ending left me heartbroken and in need of fixing. On to the 2nd book. :)

This book is the best I swear on Oreos. I started it on wattpad right before it was published *single tear* and due to the publishing of the book I didn't finish. BUT Y'ALL THIS BOOK WILL SLAY YOUR LIFE #KASTRIDAF thank you Desirae for writing this book ~A loyal part of the Neighbor Family
There just wasn't a flow with the story. It seemed like there was too much filler with it. I think I may have enjoyed it if the unnecessary dialogue was taken out. I didn't like the "Dear diary" aspect of it either.
I LOVE THIS BOOK! I love the characters and the twist at the end is definitely not something I would expect. I ship Kai and Astrid so hard! #wattpadsquad
I have read this book on wattpad it is AMAZING FANTASIC BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG I CANT BELIEVE IT'S PUBLISHED I ONLY JOINED THE SITE FOR THE AUTHOR #-@desiraeclark
