It’s the start of the summer show season and the beginning of the Talent Scout series. Emily and her jumper pony Bluebird feel like they are ready to take on the world. Her father’s suspension has been lifted, Missy is once again supporting her career and all her horses both old and new are training well. It feels like nothing could go wrong.

But Jess is back from Europe where she has been training with top riders and she has a new horse and new attitude to go with her fancy makeover and it’s not the attitude that Emily is expecting. Is it possible that she has turned over a new leaf once and for all?

And while everything is fine on the horse front, family life is not going so swimmingly. There is news from Wisconsin and it’s not good. Emily now knows that her own mother is trapped in an abusive relationship and she wants to help but how can a fourteen year old fight for her mother when she can’t even talk to her? And when disaster strikes at the Talent Scout show, will it rip Emily's world in two?

Claire Svendsen was born and raised in England, which means she talks with a vaguely cool accent and drinks a lot of hot tea. Obsessed with horses almost before she could walk, Claire spent her summers dragging the old family typewriter into the garden where she would write books about a rich family giving her a horse. Though she would like you to think they were the masterpieces of a young prodigy, the truth is they never went much further than the first chapter and were awful.

Claire likes to think she can write a lot better now. She also finds writing this biography about herself in the third person both weird and alluring all at the same time. Claire now lives in Florida because she doesn't like cold weather and when she's not busy writing, you can find her hanging at the barn with her thoroughbred Merlin.

Chasing Ribbons Review

I am disappointed in this one of the series. The quality of the writing took a step back. There is a spellcheck error where the wrong word is selected and it changes the meaning of one of the paragraphs. This proofreading error is typical in the early books and now it's back. It seems sloppy. The author doesn't explain why Jess is now nice after coming back from Europe. She explains why she is a better rider, but not her new attitude. What made her change? If Jess is so nice, why is she hanging out with Becka and Tara? And then, there is the ending. The ending doesn't work for me at all. A few chapters before, Emily's father was cool and level headed when coaching Emily right before her class, so his ride was out of character and a huge stretch. So much so that I may give up the series.
