It wasn’t supposed to be me.
I was just delivering a cake for a friend - I sure as hell wasn’t a birthday gift to a billionaire. But now that I was here, I didn’t dare leave.

Even if I wanted to, he wouldn’t let me.

Lacey Miller is two days away from being kicked out of her apartment when her best friend offers her a job for some quick cash. Easy as cake, right? Wrong.

Billionaire playboy Jake Carville has been looking for years for the perfect submissive. On his birthday, he's looking forward to a special gift: a girl who can satisfy his every dark craving.

But when Lacey walks through the wrong door and into Jake’s arms, she’s everything he’d hoped for... and nothing he ever expected.

How can he lose himself, heart and soul, to a girl he was never supposed to meet?

This is the first I've read anything by this Author. Hot, sexy, good characters and a good story.

4⭐️ 4🌶

Damn this short spicy as hell novella is what I WANTED 50 Shades to be. Oh dear god the mirror room 🔥🔥🔥. I loved shedding the layers of Jake to get to his (kind of predictable) centre. But even though it was predictable I loved the journey there.

Escapism

I can honestly say there isn't a huge amount of story here but i loved it, pure escapism from life.

Thanks to the author for sending me the full series free of charge. I really do appreciate it.

Before I go into my review I just want to say, objectively, this was a good book. Buy the book, support the author.

My review is a bit odd. How can I give it 4 stars, say it's a good book that you should pick up, but not be in with love it? Well, it all comes down to preference; and I'm a very picky romance reader.

1. Romance.
2. Billionaires.
3. Lavish lifestyle.
4. BDSM?

What's not to love?!

I'm not a fan of romance, never will be.
Not a fan of Billionaires either, nor the lavish lifestyle.
Absolutely no comments on the fourth. BUT, I am a fan of Aubrey Dark since I first read Mine & His. I respect her writing.

This is not a review of her previous work but I feel it necessary to comment on how I was initially intrigued by her dark spin on romance and how I ended up wanting to read THIS series. Three reasons:
Her writing style - clear, concise, far from pretentious, one or two typos.
Her imagination - she has a dark mind, almost as much as mine, except mine is devoid of romance and would include much more torture.
Her research skills - she writes like she is an expert on the profession of all her male protagonists.

I liked this one, not as much as I liked the one featuring Rein (or was it Rien) but this was a good book. I can see the appeal. As I said, her writing style in her previous works was superb and that style was carried over to this series.
There was a plot to keep readers intrigued.
Enough romance scenes to satiate the erotic genre fans.

There was a scene featuring a character from one of her earlier books which made me speed-read then left me wanting more. Do you see? More than a year has passed since I read His & Mine and that one character has somehow always found a way to sneakily cross my mind. That's how much I enjoyed that book and in addition to the previously mentioned reasons, I wanted to read this series so that I could somehow recreate and forge a new connection to another character of hers. It didn't happen but not because of any negatives on the part of the author, but it's because I can only stomach certain types of romance. And those romance books need to be a lot dark with just a bearable hint of anticipated romance. I don't mean Fifty Shades of Grey dark or Stonehart dark (Uncovering you series). Those aren't dark in my books, those are merely mild BDSM bullshit. I mean dark dark, the real kind where the professional is in his element, has a scalpel peeling off the face of some bad guy while the girl is in the other room panicking but aroused (you know the book I'm talking about! Damn it!!).

Again, this was a good book. It really is. Go read it if you get a thrill out of the erotic genre. Support the author, buy her books.

"His Gift" by Aubrey Dark is a novel that showcases the author's exploration of art alongside elements of romance. While it offers an intriguing perspective on the artistic world, the overall reading experience may not match the intensity of "Fifty Shades" for some readers. I loved the art aspect of this novel--it helps connect the characters in a meaningful way.

The focus on the art aspect in the novel is a definite strength. Aubrey Dark's portrayal of the artistic process and the world of artists adds depth and authenticity to the story. The vivid descriptions of artworks and the creative journey of the characters create a unique and engaging backdrop.

The romance in "His Gift" has its moments, and the chemistry between the main characters can be captivating. The emotional connection and the character development contribute to the overall appeal of their relationship.

However, while the art aspect is intriguing, the novel may not fully meet the expectations of readers looking for a comparable experience to "Fifty Shades." The intensity and explicitness of the romance might be milder in comparison, and some readers may find themselves wishing for a deeper exploration of the emotional complexities.

Furthermore, the pacing and plot development in "His Gift" may feel inconsistent at times. There might be moments where the narrative drags or lacks the necessary tension to keep readers fully engaged.

Additionally, the characters' depth and motivations may benefit from further exploration, as this would enhance the overall reading experience and strengthen the emotional connections between the characters and the audience.

In conclusion, "His Gift" by Aubrey Dark is a novel that shines in its portrayal of the art world and its creative aspects. The romance and chemistry between the characters add to its appeal, but it may not fully meet the expectations of readers seeking a similar experience to "Fifty Shades."

For its artistic flair and intriguing concept, "His Gift" earns a respectable three stars. It is recommended for readers interested in exploring the world of art through a romantic lens, but it may not completely satisfy those expecting a similar intensity to "Fifty Shades."

I like this book about Jake and Lacey. Lacey went to deliver a birthday cake for her bff to Jake's birthday party. On her way in her nosey ass goes into the art gallery and drops the damn cake on the ground. Little did she know, Jake was behind a painting. Jake started off hard and unlovable to me. He is seeking a submissive, but see Lacey and want to keep her as his gift instead of the woman that was suppose to be his gift. He offer to pay Lacey's rent for a year. And she agreed. She had to stay with him for about a week. I would have like to see Lacey pull down his wall in layers, but she just knock that thang down with just a kiss. He was smitten. I was cute though. I liked them together and enjoy the story. Good read.

Disappointed...

This was my first time reading this author and I was horribly disappointed since there were so many 5 star reviews. The heroine is a spineless unrealistic virgin. She's incredibly immature and annoying. The entire story is unrealistic. Every other page is sexual, to the point were I was constantly skimming the pages just to get through it. I've never had such a hard time finishing a book before. Unfortunately I had bought the second installment at the same time and now have to get through that. Hopefully it's better but I'm not holding out to much hope

Well....

Not real sure what order to read her books in, but this one was different for Bad for Me and The Billionaire Dating Game. I like that all the stories are connected. Lacey and Jake just seemed to fast. Who allows someone to kidnap them and the next thing you know they are in love.......

Good book

This was a good book. Worth continuing the series but not spectacular. It seemed like the emotions were a little disconnected and the characters were odd. For example, a guy who just throws money at situations but the girl isn't bothered by it. Just feels a little unrealistic and slightly strange - at least for me.

Good book

Jake is hot and sexy, the only problem I had was that the author did not describe the female character, regarding her looks. I might be just me but I need to know for I could imagine it in my head the story, but other than that it was a good book, I do recommend it.

**** 3.5 basic billionaire babe book ****

I feel like it was rushed and very stereotypical billionaire romance. There was nothing to differentiate this from a more popular book like Fifty Shade of Grey. With all that said it was still a quite enjoyable read. Soooooooo 3.5 Stars.

Ok but not my favourite Aubrey Dark

Didn't enjoy as much as other, darker books by Aubrey Dark. Found the female lead very immature and the circumstances more implausible than usual for the genre.

After reading Aubrey Dark's other works, this series' 'darkness' pales in comparison.
