Making Mike is the third novel in The Wounded Warriors series by Simone Beaudelaire & J.M. Northup, and can be enjoyed even if you haven't read the prequels.

Sick of violence, fear and death, Sergeant Mike O'Connor is ready for a change. Separating from the service and distancing himself from his aggressive, wacky family, Mike is glad to focus on work, school and the beautiful French instructor he keeps meeting all over campus.

Though Camille's elegance speaks to Mike's soul, he fears the gorgeous biracial woman is out of his league. Camille, however, is determined to prove to Mike that he's worth more than he realizes; that is, if meddling relatives and unseen threats don't destroy their hopes for a beautiful future.

Ultimately Heartwarming

Another great story about what life is like post military. This story emphasized the importance of family, even in their dysfunctional ways. I want to thank all of our troops and their families for everything they do and have to endure in order to provide safety and freedom for our citizens, here and abroad.

Making Mike (The Wounded Warriors #3)
by J.M. Northup
Miking Mike is the last of the Wounded Warriors series, giving us a glimpse in the world of our returning soldiers. We have looked at how injury has affected soldiers in Justifying Jack. Looked at PTSD in Saving Sam. Now we look at the cost of war where there are no injuries of the body or mind.
Mike shows the nature of the military service to bring people from all areas of life and from all ideals. Sam is a prototypical American Texan, living on a ranch and coming form a world of service as a birthright. To Jack a strong African American soldier brought up in faith and love, and duty. Now we have Mike, the slight figure of a man who came from the rebellious sixties mentality. He was raised with ideas of acceptance, and rebellion from the “man” and and societal constructs that restrict thoughts and protencities. Mike does not embrace wholeheartedly his parents and grandparents ideas but find that military service is his own escape from their dictatorial upbringing. He has his own personal struggle, how does he fit back into society after service. Mike shows us how our boys and girls can better themselves with service, but that service can give them the tools to learn and adapt. There are many pathways to service to country and community, and Mike shows that they are not something to be limited but to be expanded. His acceptance of a position as a VA representative shows how the military attempts to help the men and women back into society.
The book also shows cultural ideologies at conflict. Camile is a strong woman who has to break with her own family traditions to establish her own future. She was not supported by her family in her drive or ambition, and the fact she has to make it on her own is not lost to the reader. Mike becomes a part of the puzzle that she is struggling to fit together. Her acceptance of him, and his acceptance of her shows that love can be supportive and nurturing without over burdening the individual.
A great finish to the series, and an eye opening aspect of what society needs to understand. Thank you Julie for allowing us to sojuren in this world that many are not part of.

What a great book about Mike and Camille. It is #3 in the Wounded Warrior series. Mike is home from his tour in Afghanistan. He has a very colorful family with ways that are hilarious, like kissing everybody family or others in the mouth. Camille comes from a family filled with some ugliness like constant drug use and abuse.
Mike enrolls in college and meets Camille at the copier. Immediately both are smitten. However, someone has an intense crush on her. Camille is being followed and watched. People are breaking into her home. The immediate suspect may or may not be the intruder.
As the two discover each other, Camille teaches Mike things he never knew about relationships. Mike wants to protect her from any all distress.
Friends and fellow soldiers Ray, Sam and Jack are present in this story.
I loved the deep friendship with three of the four displayed in each story.
Great Read and tributes to the sacrifices made and the hard fought recovery of the three.

Not Alpha enough

There was nothing wrong with the writing or the book, my only gripe was the H was not Alpha enough to retain my attention. The sex scenes were more pathetic than erotic with him wanting to nut quick and it was due to his inexperience I get it but didn't like it.

When I started this book, I almost thought it was going to get a 4 star review, but the more I read, I knew the 5 star was the way to go. When Mike O'Connor leaves the military to return home, he is torn between optimism and pessimism, First off, he comes from a family that is a bit crazy and then he has wounds from war. Meeting Camille Carlton gives Mike new purpose in life and hopes of romance. Of course, the past has a way of messing with the present and the future. Readers are going to enjoy finding out what obstacles are standing in Mike and Camille's way in this romance with a bit of a twisted mystery wrapped up in the tale.
