P. C. Kuttikrishnan, popularly known by his penname Uroob (Malayalam: ഉറൂബ്; 1915 – 1979) was a famous Malayalam writer from Kerala state, South India. He along with writers like Basheer, Thakazhi, Kesavadev, and Pottekkatt formed the progressive writers in Malayalam during the twentieth century. Uroob is a recipient of Kendra Sahithya Academy Award (Malayalam) for his novel Sundarikalum Sundaranmarum

ഉറൂബിന്റെ രാച്ചിയമ്മ, ഓണം കഴിഞ്ഞു, സുഗന്ധമുള്ള ദിവസം, സൂചിമുന, കൊതുവലയ്ക്കുള്ളിലെ കൊതു എന്നീ അഞ്ച് ചെറുകഥകൾ ചേർന്നൊരു ചെറിയ സമാഹാരമാണ് രാച്ചിയമ്മ എന്ന ഈ പുസ്തകം. എല്ലാ കഥകളിലും പൊതുവായി കാണാൻ പറ്റിയത് ഉള്ളിൽ കോർത്തുവലിക്കുന്ന ദുഖമാണ്. പലതരം ദുഃഖങ്ങൾ - രാച്ചിയമ്മയിൽ നായകനായ കഥാകാരന്റെയും രാച്ചിയമ്മയുടെയും ഒരു ചെറിയ നഷ്ടപ്രണയത്തിന്റെ, ഓണം കഴിഞ്ഞുവിൽ തന്റെയൊപ്പം വന്നുനിൽക്കാനോ തന്നെ ഒപ്പം കൊണ്ടുപോകാനോ മടിക്കുന്ന മക്കളെപ്പറ്റി ആലോചിക്കുന്ന വൃദ്ധന്റെ, സുഗന്ധമുള്ള ദിവസത്തിൽ വനജയുടെ, മാധവിയുടെ, സൂചിമുനയിൽ മരണം ഉറപ്പായിട്ടും മന്ദസ്മിതം തൂകി വേദന കുറയാനുള്ള മരുന്ന് ചോദിക്കുന്ന ക്യാൻസർരോഗിയുടെ, കൊതുവലയ്ക്കുള്ളിലെ കൊതുവിൽ ഭർത്താവിന്റെ ഉദ്യോഗക്കയറ്റത്തിനായി ജീവിതം നശിപ്പിക്കേണ്ടി വന്ന സുജാതയുടെ.

ഉറൂബിന്റെ എഴുത്ത് നല്ലതാണെന്നതിൽ സംശയം വേണ്ടല്ലോ. കൂട്ടത്തിൽ ഏറ്റവും നല്ല കഥയായി തോന്നിയത് രാച്ചിയമ്മ തന്നെയാണ്. ഈ കഥ 2021ൽ ഇതേ പേരിൽ ആണും പെണ്ണും എന്ന മലയാള സിനിമാ ആന്തോളജിയിൽ വേണുവിന്റെ സംവിധാനത്തിൽ ഭാഗമായിട്ടുണ്ട്, പാർവതി രാച്ചിയമ്മയും ആസിഫ് അലി നായകനായും. എങ്കിലും കഥയിലെ രാച്ചിയമ്മയുടെ രൂപവും ചലച്ചിത്രരൂപവും വ്യത്യസ്തമെന്നു തോന്നി.
