As a third generation mortician, Grace has seen her fair share of bodies. But nothing has prepared her for what she discovers in the basement of her family’s funeral home.
The recent and tragic death of her family has her teetering on the edge of reality; she yearns for oblivion. But her handsome new neighbor seems determined to save her despite her protests.
All Grace wants is to put the past behind her — to sell the Deacon Funeral Home and escape to a foreign country with the cash.
But a secret is buried in the bowels of the Home, a secret the Deacons have protected for generations. If Grace doesn’t embrace her legacy and commit to life in Hemlock Hollow, she not only risks her own and soul and that of her family’s, but the collective soul of the human race.
This is an enjoyable, albeit extremely short, read with an interesting setting and characters. My big gripe is that this is too short and I feel readers are getting the short end of the stick; having to purchase the "series" books to finish the adventure, which may actually equate to one or two "full" books.
I get it, I've seen business model, but that doesn't mean I agree with the practice. So, One Star Reduction on the shaft. That said, I found myself enjoying what little was there. You definitely don't get much character development, but the foundation is there. There are definitely some strange things going on in Hemlock Hollow.
Of course, there is a hunky dude/handy-man type to go along with a young adult, Grace, whom returns home after a six-month absence fueled by booze, sex, and self-loathing. His back-story? Don't know. What was the recent and tragic death of her family about? Not sure.
The style is good, the writing and editing are fine as well. Depending on price, one may wait to see if there is a two-volume combo or box set available. As it stands now, all four books are available. D'oh! Yes, there is a 4-book series available, but it is currently the same cost as if you purchased each separately.
France's life in going straight in the toilet, she uses alcohol to drown her sorrows. Her family was killed or were they? The mystery of the funeral home where she lives is unravelling piece by piece. She cannot trust anyone, her new neighbor is the only one helping her.MAybe there really are things that go bump in the Dark.Great book I am looking forward to the next one.
I found this book on kindle and I liked the sound of it so I thought I would give it a go. As soon as I started the book I could not put it down. It is such an original story, I have never read anything like it. I love the characters and the fact that you are getting to know each individual character as well as still having the mystery of what is going to happen next. I loved it!
A great book to great with a gripping tale within a more scary story. This is the first in the series. It is well written and simply easy to read because it goes so fast.
Grace's family died in a car accident. Since then she has been living with her aunt and uncle and drinking all day. When her aunt throws her out she is forced to return home which is a funeral home where her family lived and worked. Wonderful, interesting story.
My only wish or complaint is that it wasn’t longer lol, enjoyed the book quite a bit! I recommend reading this book! Will be going for the rest of them

Okay so I did not realize how short this book is and when the ending came around, I was like "WHAT!!!". Besides that, even though I felt the book started of a little slow, I could not find myself putting it down. Completely opposite of what I thought this book we be and I am super happy about that. I am so getting the rest in the series. Highly recommend. Look forward to reading more books by this author!!!
What starts out reading like chick lit morphs into paranormal mystery, with a small town context like something out of a gothic novel. The characters are interesting, so is the plot and it is quite well written. But it's short. Very short. And it ends on a cliffhanger. It would have got five stars if it had been a novel instead of a novella and if some aspect of the plot was resolved into a stand alone story.
Loved this storyline and can't wait to start book 2. This book has humor, sexiness, drama, and of course, paranormal story. Definitely a series to start if you like something with a little bit of everything...including paranormal!
Cliff hanger. Guess I didn't read the front. But, I did like the story line and the characters. You keep getting surprised at who the good guys and bad guys are.
