“A Lawrence De Maria title gives you more bang for your buck than just about anything in the book marketplace today.” (FLORIDA WEEKLY); “If you like hard-boiled action, memorable villains and twisty plots, the Jake Scarne thrillers never disappoint!” (John Crudele, NEW YORK POST)
ASSASSIN, GOURMET, THRILLER WRITER AND LADIES MAN, COLE SUDDEN IS THE ACE OF A SECRET C.I.A. UNIT THAT USES MOB MONEY AND CONTACTS TO FIGHT FOREIGN TERRORISTS AND OTHER THREATS TO THE U.S. *** HURRICANE FATS
Auburn Longstreet’s Caribbean-based Ponzi scheme took in $300 million before he was caught. Thousands of small investors lost their life savings as the slippery six-foot-four con man eschewed restitution. Instead, he spent the bulk of the money on stateside lawyers and crooked politicians who kept him out of jail. He also prudently put aside millions to pay off some favored clients (drug cartels) that would otherwise have cut him into little pieces.
But the greedy Longstreet wasn’t satisfied. He decided to keep $35 million that “rightly” belonged to a New Orleans mob boss – by arranging to have the mobster convicted on financial evidence he secretly supplied the Feds. Even better, the jailed Don dies in prison thinking it was one of his own crew who turned on him in return for a cushy life in witness protection.
Enter an ultra-secret unit of the Central Intelligence Agency with an interesting, and lucrative, program. Having broken into the Federal and state computers that track all the people in witness protection, the C.I.A. unit bumps off mob turncoats in return for cash and intelligence provided by vengeful mob bosses.
One of its “clients” is Fats Boudreau, the dead Don’s brutal son. But when Fats discovers that Longstreet is the real traitor and that Cole Sudden, a C.I.A. assassin, killed the wrong man, he goes berserk. He wants Longstreet and Sudden dead – and his $35 million! Add a cadaverous Las Vegas hit man and a monster storm into the volatile mix and HURRICANE FATS builds to a shattering climax.
Think KEY LARGO – if the movie was made by those who produced DIE HARD! *** THE HADRON ESCAPE What does a discovery made by a perverted Nazi doctor in a death camp in the 1940’s, an autopsy near Area 51 in Nevada in the 1960’s and a mysterious transmission between scientists intercepted by today’s National Security Agency in Washington, D.C. all have in common? The nation’s top intelligence agencies pull out all the stops to find out. They even bring in Cole Sudden and Rebecca Soul, the apex assassins in the C.I.A.’s most-lethal unit – in case their worst fears are justified. Undercover in Switzerland at the Hadron Collider, the largest scientific experiment on Earth, Sudden and Soul search for someone – or something – they barely believe exists.
Immersed in a world of nuclear physics, quantum mechanics, particle accelerators and space-time continuum, the two agents use sex and guile in a quest where the very future of their world may be at stake!
What they finally discover shocks the two tough agents to their cores, but also reveals something they never expected.
A first time read for me from the author Lawrence De Maria and it will not be the last. In book one, C.I.A. agent/assassin Sudden is an agent out for revenge after the murder of his lover. Sudden's undercover as a thriller writer works perfectly. Plenty of action as Sudden is given his orders. Caught in a tornado, Sudden still is able to eliminate his targets. Book 2 sees Sudden and Rebecca Soul searching for Aliens?? Geab this box set, you wont be sorry.
Lawrence de Maria is in fine form as the author of these novels.....
I very much enjoyed these two books by Lawrence de Maria. My only complaint was that they were very short! I liked the main character Cole Sudden as a CIA hitman, and a bit of a ladies man too.
