Chris Claremont is a writer of American comic books, best known for his 16-year (1975-1991) stint on Uncanny X-Men, during which the series became one of the comic book industry's most successful properties.
Claremont has written many stories for other publishers including the Star Trek Debt of Honor graphic novel, his creator-owned Sovereign Seven for DC Comics and Aliens vs Predator for Dark Horse Comics. He also wrote a few issues of the series WildC.A.T.s (volume 1, issues #10-13) at Image Comics, which introduced his creator-owned character, Huntsman.
Outside of comics, Claremont co-wrote the Chronicles of the Shadow War trilogy, Shadow Moon (1995), Shadow Dawn (1996), and Shadow Star (1999), with George Lucas. This trilogy continues the story of Elora Danan from the movie Willow. In the 1980s, he also wrote a science fiction trilogy about female starship pilot Nicole Shea, consisting of First Flight (1987), Grounded! (1991), and Sundowner (1994). Claremont was also a contributor to the Wild Cards anthology series.
Actual rating 3.5 stars Not sure how I felt about this issue’s events. Stevie Hunter took the young mutants (who don’t have full control over their powers) out in public. Then some guy comes in and they trust him enough to do what he says? I did like the fact that when the New Mutants were battling the Sentinels, you could see that it was uncoordinated, unlike the X-Men. They don’t work as a team quite yet and I’m excited to see that aspect develop.
Dani in the mansion is great, with her surviving the Danger Room’s holographic nightmare. But the sentinels in this are… lacklustre. I actually kind of like the blue colour scheme, but it isn’t nearly so iconic as the purple. But there wasn’t much to this, just more of the same sentinel story that’s been told before. Of course, it will be leading up to a bigger story arc later on, but here it isn’t super interesting.
A definite improvement over #1, in no small part due to things happening. The art is still rough, but Claremont's legendary scripting is starting to show. Liking what I'm seeing...
5 stars for the amazing artwork, love how the sentinels are drawn here with the colors.
Dani is going thru the danger room that has its safety interlocks off, and she’s trying to survive.
We see the NM come out of the theater when Gyrich’s team come to take the mutants. They resist, and appear to have won, until the sentinels show up. NM neutralize the threat and head back to find Dani laying in the danger room.
Charles is asleep in his study while a Brood Queen hovers over him.
