Their love burned bright. It ended swift. And now enemies rise from the ashes.
Gabriella He was never hers to claim. Wild. Untouchable. Dangerous. But for one stolen moment, he belonged to her. They were star-crossed lovers, reckless and doomed, playing with fire. They knew the cost if they were caught. They risked it anyway. Until the night she was forced to choose betrayal over love. Now the man who once held her heart is her sworn enemy. And her orders are kill him… or be destroyed.
Vienna They mistook his laughter for weakness. They thought the jokes, the charm, the wicked grin meant he wasn’t dangerous. They were dead wrong. Because beneath the humor lies steel. Vice President. Strategist. Executioner. A man feared as much as he’s respected. And now he’s done pretending. It's time they remembered what he's capable of. They took her from him. Now he’s taking her back. No matter the cost.
One woman torn between loyalty and love. One man who refuses to let go. Their story was never meant to be a fairytale. It was always meant to be a tragedy.
J.M. Johnson is a Yorkshire-based dark romance author, professional red-flag enthusiast and reader-crowned Queen of Cliffhangers.
She writes morally questionable men, strong women who refuse to make life easy for them, and stories packed with spice, chaos, sharp British sarcasm and enough emotional damage to keep therapists in business until the apocalypse.
Her books are dark, plot-heavy and unapologetically explicit, with trigger-warning lists long enough to require their own chapter. There is usually danger, obsession, questionable decision-making and at least one moment that will make you question your sanity.
To date, hundreds of Kindle lives have been lost to rage-induced throwing caused by J.M.’s cliffhangers.
J.M. Johnson has done it again. After following the Devil's Disciples series from the very beginning, I had huge expectations because this series is by far one of my favorites. Hidden, Book #4, was absolutely devastating in the best way possible. The sacrifice, the pacing, the suspenseful plot all sat heavy on my chest, I was furiously turning the pages just to breathe. Johnson knows exactly how to build anticipation and deliver payoffs that literally take your breath away. The character dynamics are pure perfection: intense and of the highest stakes that keep you invested from the first page to the last. Nobody writes dark, gritty romance with fierce, badass heroines and beautifully flawed, morally gray men quite like J.M. The tension in this book is elite, the pace is relentless and the emotional payoff is everything I needed and more. It is dark, it's deliciously spicy and will absolutely wreck you in all the right ways. If you love dark romantic suspense that keeps you guessing until the back cover, this is the book. This series is for you.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 Stars – A Dark Romance That Completely Consumed Me
Hidden by J.M. Johnson was everything I wanted from a dark romance and more. From the very first chapter, I was pulled into a story filled with tension, secrets, obsession, and twists that kept me turning pages long into the night.
This isn't a light-hearted romance. It's dark, intense, and emotionally gripping, with characters who are beautifully flawed and a storyline that keeps you guessing. The chemistry between the characters is electric, and the way the author builds suspense had me hooked from start to finish.
What I loved most was how unpredictable it was. Every time I thought I had things figured out, another revelation would hit, making it impossible to put down. The darker themes were handled in a way that added depth to the story rather than taking away from it, creating a reading experience that was both thrilling and unforgettable.
J.M. Johnson has created a world that is haunting, addictive, and impossible to forget. If you enjoy dark romance with mystery, danger, emotional intensity, and characters that leave a lasting impression, then this book is definitely worth reading.
I absolutely loved every minute of it and can confidently say this is a 5-star read for me. I cannot wait to dive deeper into this series and see what happens next.
🖤 Dark, twisted, addictive, and utterly captivating. Hidden completely stole my attention and refused to let go. 🖤
Well what a cliffhanger of an ending that was. It was good seeing how the other characters are doing, I loved Dante and Rachels three books. Great storyline which takes you on an emotional rollercoaster, I loved seeing more of Vienna's story and generally more of him terrorising people, the sandwichs were hilarious. This is definitely a romeo and Juilet style romance. Can't wait for the next book to see how it all develops and ends.
I LOVED IT! These Devils! Can I find me a biker that belongs to the club? I want to be a Devil’s old lady! Vienna and Gabriella’s story has me in my feeeels! 😭😭 Vienna is everything I thought he would be. What an amazing man!!! I love him so so much!!!! It’s a roller coaster. The cliffhanger. Their love story 😭 I loved it so much. It’s so much more than I could have imagined. So looking forward to book number 5. I need it NOW!
Another great book from JM Johnson. Vienna has been my favourite all through the series but this book truly showed who he is. His relationship between him and Gabrielle is raw with no holds barred. If you haven’t read this series you need to. Be warned though the cliff hangers are gutting.
When I tell you I have been dying for Vienna‘s book since finishing Dante and Rachel‘s trilogy… I am physically ill. The emotional damage here is criminal.
The way I was desperately swiping at my Kindle at 3 AM hoping a glitch would magically spawn another chapter??? THAT CLIFFHANGER IS SICK AND TWISTED AND I AM GOING TO SUE. I need book two directly injected into my veins right now.
VIENNA IS THE BLUEPRINT. I am on my hands and knees for this man. He is hands down my favorite character. He’s everything. He’s a chaotic, unhinged menace who will casually wipe out an entire bloodline for his people, wave at the traumatized witnesses, tell them to have a blessed day, and actually MEAN IT. The way he loves so loud and hard is so deeply attractive it makes me want to scream that he isn’t real. He is such a layered character, soft and hard, loyal and genuine. The saddest, funniest person I’ve ever read. I mean truly, being funny is just in his DNA.
DO YOU SEE WHAT I MEAN?! I need CPR immediately. It needs to be studied. In a lab. Specifically the lab located in my bedroom.
But honestly, this book was soul-crushing. Jumping back and forth from when they were 14 years old to present day at 37 is pure devastation. We are talking about TWENTY-THREE YEARS of loving somebody. It was absolutely brutal experiencing it all, especially knowing they aren't even together right now. Watching that innocent adolescent love bloom into young adulthood, only for them to be ripped apart, completely broke me. The absolute hell they survived, the silent sacrifices they made, and the sheer amount of YEARNING over the last ten years of being without each other all while missing half the puzzle pieces had my heart physically aching.
Put me in the ground. I am actually unwell. I just want to scream, let them just be able to fucking love each other and be happy.
And Gabby... listen. The urge to violently shake her by the shoulders yelling “GIRL WHAT ARE YOU DOING, GO TO YOUR MAN” while simultaneously wanting to violently defend her in a court of law is so real. The abuse she went through made me sick to my stomach, so I get it, but god the angst is killing me. The love is so unconditionally real and I am rooting for them so hard.
Getting to see Dante, Rachel, and the rest of the club back was everything. No one does found family better than them. If you think this is just some regular dark biker romance, you are dead wrong. JM Johnson is mothering so hard with the plot and depth. You don't just read about these characters, you become unhealthily attached to them.
I will be upping my Lexapro dose while I wait for book 2 because 10 mg just isn’t going to do it.
thank you to j.m and her team for allowing me to arc read for her! i was SO excited for this book because vienna is my favoriteeeee character from the entire devils disciples series. he always brought such a light, fun energy to the books, and finally getting to see who he really is and why he is the way he is just made me love him even more, wholeheartedly. i will say check the trigger warnings for this one. there were a few moments where i was making faces and lowkey grossed out. it was never a hard no for me, but it definitely adds a heavier layer to the story. i also feel like this one leaned more into the smutty/sexual side than the others. it didn’t bother me personally, but i can absolutely see how it could be triggering, so pleaseeee check those warnings before going in.
dante and rachel felt a lot calmer in this book, like they were just over everyone and everything. dante especially seemed exasperated like all the years of chaos are finally catching up to him. but honestly? i feel like it’s a front and he secretly thrives in it. rachel definitely toned it down a bit, but she’s still her crazy self, ready to go to war with the riders straight out the damn front door.
i also loved getting more insight into rachel’s parents. because let’s be real, we all hated that sad excuse of a mother in the previous books. the rest of the club kind of fell into place like usual, but it was really cool to see how everyone developed into who they are now. the flashbacks and the whole descendants upbringing added so much depth and really tied everything together. and the stuff about laura??? wow… actually insane.
nico, yeah, he’s still disgusting. i’ve always hated him from the little bits we got before, and this just solidified it. i cannot believe he ended up as president because he is not president material at all.
gabby though, my heart hurts for her. she was so strong, especially with everything she had to endure under nico. i really felt for her and all the other girls in this story. she did what she had to do to protect the people she loved and cared for so deeply, but i really wish she could’ve gotten what she deserved without going through the absolute worst. and that betrayal scene??? killed me. like WHAT. insane.
and vienna… he will always be my favorite. i knew he was troubled, but learning just how troubled he was and how he found his way into the devils was so interesting. it even made you appreciate kitty a little bit (yuck, i know). from the descendants to the disciples, he’s still the same loving, ride-or-die, would-die-for-you type of man. and seeing him with bee just hits differently now, knowing how everything in his life played out, just when he had it all.
overall, this was such a good book. j.m. johnson is slowly becoming one of my favorite authors, even though i HATE the way these books end. the cliffhangers get me every single time, my jaw literally dropped. the way this one ended should be illegal because WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?? i need to know immediately. but i guess i’ll be patiently or very impatiently waiting.
favorite quotes: "i knew what it was to adapt before you even realised you were adapting." *side note, im sure there was a lot of quotes in this book but i was reading so fast i did not highlight any*
Hidden Devil's Disciples Book 4 By: J.M. Johnson Narrated by: Maxine Mitchell, Joe Arden
J.M. Johnson does it again and blows me away with another amazing novel, a thrilling, heart-pounding romantic suspense that is dark and twisted, and one I could not tear myself away from. I listened to and loved the first three audiobooks of the “Devil’s Disciples”, Rachel and Dante’s story, a not to be missed trilogy, and have been looking forward to Vienna and Gabriella’s story. Vienna played a key role in those books, being Dante’s righthand man and the Disciples MC VP, and a character like no other, a man with lots of layers, and one you would not want to cross, and one who hides behind his comedic charm. That said, I adored Vienna, and it was great to learn more about him and his connection/relationship to/with Gabriella, and wow, it is a wild ride. Before Vienna, there was Luke, who was born to a club bunny, a club stray who grew up with Dante, born to club royalty, which was the start of their lifelong relationship. Gabriella, the princess of the Rough Riders, the rival MC of the Disciples, and she and Vienna clicked when they were young, a forbidden relationship they kept hidden until it wasn’t. Johnson puts her own unique spin on the classic Romeo and Juliet, a tragic romance that could never be. The story is told in alternate timelines, the past and the present, showing their younger selves, how their love grew and the abrupt ending to their relationship, and the sacrifices made. In the present time, we watch Gabriella and Vienna dance around each other, seeing what it is costing them to be apart, and the predicament she is in, also seeing the evilness of the leader of the Rough Riders. And speaking of evil, JM Johnson, how could you end it like that, with that mind- blowing cliffhanger! Evil but brilliant, an ending that leaves you wanting more, or rather needing more! J.M. Johnson delivers another well-written, cleverly plotted, multi-layered story that has plenty of drama, angst, twists and turns, thrilling and suspenseful moments, heartfelt emotions, and steamy romance. Thank you for another outstanding story and the wild and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧And for the amazing audiobook production and duet performance by the wonderfully talented Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden, each bringing A-game with their character voices, accents included, and portrayal of each. Mitchell nailed it as Gabriella, grasping every facet of her personality in both her younger and older years, from her sassy youth to what she became when life threw her a hardball, turning her more intense and serious. Arden continues to kill it in Vienna’s role, showcasing his personality perfectly in both his younger and older years, dark, twisted with a side of comedic charm. Their expressive delivery conveys all the characters’ emotions, their passion and yearning, making you feel it all. Their versatility and talent truly shine in their performance, an enthralling performance that not only hooks you on the story but takes the already brilliant story to another level.Thank you, Blue Nose Audio, for another exceptional listen!
Hidden by J.M. Johnson! Book 4 in The Devil’s Disciples series. Performed in duet byMaxine Mitchell & Joe Arden Release Date: September 10th
Okay… I have literally just finished this audiobook and I NEED to talk about it! 😂
This series has completely pulled me in, and Hidden had me hooked from the very beginning. It’s the kind of story that grabs your attention, tightens its grip and refuses to let go.
This one is definitely darker and disturbing in places, so please check the trigger warnings before diving in. But alongside that darkness, there is so much drama, tension, secrecy, emotional turmoil and questionable decision-making that had me sitting there thinking, “Oh my god, what are you doing?!”
And Gabriella and Vienna… I was completely invested. There is so much happening beneath the surface, and I could feel the pain, conflict and emotion behind every choice they made. Their journey pulled me in so deeply that I was experiencing every twist, every moment of tension and every impossible decision right alongside them.
I was stressed. I was emotional. I was frustrated. I was absolutely shouting at my headphones again. 😂 The chemistry between them was intense, and I loved the way the story unfolded through the back-and-forth between past and present. The rivalry, the forbidden love, the history between them and all those unanswered questions created this constant sense of anticipation. I never felt completely sure what was coming next, and that made it impossible to stop listening.
And the narration? So good. Those Irish accents! 😍 Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden brought Gabriella and Vienna to life so vividly. Their performances added even more depth to the emotion, tension and chemistry, making it incredibly easy to disappear into the story. I wasn’t just listening to the audiobook — I was completely immersed in it.
I honestly didn’t want to put this one down… or should I say take my headphones off! 🎧😂 Every time I thought I might pause it, I needed to know what would happen next.
And now I’ve got that horrible feeling you get when you finish a really good audiobook and suddenly think… WHAT THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO LISTEN TO NOW?! 😂
A dark, heartbreaking Romeo & Juliet retelling wrapped in an MC romance, and this one hurt in the best way.
Gabriella and Luke, aka Vienna, were separated by loyalty, rivalry, and circumstances neither of them could control. Gabriella sacrificed their love to protect him, leaving Luke believing for years that she had chosen Nico over him.
But Gabriella isn't living the life Luke thought she was. She's trapped in a beautiful room that has become a beautiful cage, with Nico using her mother as leverage while Gabriella endures his cruelty. And when Luke discovers the truth, the heartbreak turns into something much more dangerous: he's determined to get her back.
The balcony scenes between them? 🥹 Absolutely devastating. Years of misunderstanding, longing, and a love that never truly died, separated by nothing more than a locked window. There's so much what if settled between them for years, and watching that wall between them slowly crack was both beautiful and heartbreaking. Their romance is heart-shattering and spicy, with so much longing and emotional weight behind it.
And then we have Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell. The almighty Joe Arden and the queen Maxine Mitchell together? Honestly, Blue Nose knew exactly what they were doing when they put these two in a duet. Their performances brought so much emotion and intensity to an already dark story, and the audiobook was an absolute pleasure to listen to.
Their chemistry, communication, and the way they play off each other are pure perfection. A match made in heaven when it comes to narration
And that ending... THAT CLIFFHANGER. 😭
A heartwarming, heart-shattering cliffhanger that left me desperate to know what happens next. I need to know whether Gabriella and Luke will finally get the closure and happy ending they deserve, because after everything these two have endured, I NEED ANSWERS.
🖤 Dark. Emotional. Brutal. Spicy. Addictive.
And honestly, J.M. Johnson really said, “Let's take Romeo and Juliet, put them in rival motorcycle clubs, torture everyone's emotions, and then leave them hanging.” Ma'am. Why. 😭🖤
This book was everything I hoped it would be and more! This was my most anticipated read of the year to date (book 2 now being the next one!!), I have been waiting for Viennas story since first meeting him and my word I was not disappointed. This had me laughing, ugly crying and everything in between. Vienna is the big oaf, the loveable rogue, the class clown, never seeming to take himself to seriously and doing everything in his power to wind up everyone else just to let them go and laugh at the destruction. However, under it all there’s always been a hidden vulnerability, a backstory of pain and heartbreak which he hides and protects in the only ways he knows, comedy and humour. Finally being able to peel back his layers (ha! No pun intended if you know you know!) dig a little deeper and really understand him, just made me fall in love with him even more. The intrigue that Gabriella brought any time she was mentioned has had me hooked on their dynamic from the start. To delve into her background, trials, tribulations, trauma and turmoil has only strengthened that resolve that her and Vienna are truly destined.
As per her writing style - and admit it, you’d be disappointed if it wasn’t- this book if full of triggers (you’ve been warned!) it’s dark and disturbing, it’s hot and sexual, it’s slamming your eyes shut as you can’t believe what you’re reading, it’s toe curling, heaving breathing, panty melting, gut wrenching and swoon worthy. It’s everything and yet not enough all at once.
If you read Dante and Rachel’s story and are ready for more, what are you waiting for? If you haven’t, but you’re after the hot and hunky, slightly deranged, loyal to a fault, a little unhinged, found family Biker, dark and dirty romance then this is the book for you. But I highly recommend you start at the beginning with Stolen. Come on and join the Devils!! You won’t regret it!
Vienna is one of my favorite characters in the Devil’s Disciples series and finally getting inside his story made me love him so much more. This man is completely unhinged, ridiculously funny, fiercely loyal, and absolutely terrifying when it comes to protecting the people he loves. He can have you laughing one minute and then break your heart the next.
Gabriella absolutely broke my heart too. There were moments when I wanted to grab her and yell, “GO GET YOUR MAN,” but at the same time, learning everything she had survived made it impossible not to understand why she made the choices she did.
I just desperately want these two people who have loved each other for so long to finally get the chance to simply be together. Knowing where they are in the present while watching them fall in love in the past was honestly brutal.
I also loved being back with the rest of the club. The found family in this series continues to be one of my favorite things about it. These characters have become so interconnected that every relationship adds another layer to the story.
And then THAT ENDING. Excuse me, J.M.! You cannot emotionally destroy me for an entire book and then leave me THERE. I need the next one immediately because that cliffhanger was downright cruel.
As for the audiobook, Maxine Mitchell & Joe Arden were phenomenal together. One of my favorite dynamic duos.
Maxine was incredible as Gabriella. I'm not sure I have ever heard Maxine do that particular accent so it took me a minute to get used to but her range is amazing.
Joe captured that combination of danger, humor, loyalty, heartbreak, and complete chaos of Vienna so perfectly. One of my very favorites was getting to hear him play the younger kid roles. It added a lot of heart to this often dark story.
Also... JM!!!!!!!! The eyeballs WHY... WHY????? That's all.
And now I need this next book, please and thank you.
ALC Review for Hidden by J.M. Johnson! I can't find the audio selection but MUST review this book!
Book 4 in The Devil’s Disciples series.
Performed in duet by Maxine Mitchell & Joe Arden
Wow. I am so addicted to this Series. I didn't even know about it until getting the ALC. So I bought the first 3 books in the series. I fell in love with Vienna instantly. He's the big huge goofball biker, that is the glue to the MC....and Gabby. My heart broke for him...I so wanted to jump in this book and just give that man everything he deserves. All the happiness he deserves and kill everyone that made him not have his happiness.
And I wanted to be just like Rachel....so bad ass...and to have the relationship she has with Vienna. Hair buddies, brother/sister like relationship, and both the best part of Dante lol. Vienna and Rachel's relationship is so perfect...the car scene had me dying of laughter...Rachel and Vienna singing 😃 🤣
Vienna is the life of the party...even if he is dying inside...even if the most horrible things are happening around him. He is Perfection 👌 My heart breaks 💔 for Gabriella. Such a horrible life she is born into. All Vienna wants is Gabby. Even how much she pushes him away...he's still right there...being everything she needs to get through her f#cked up life. ❤️
Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell's performance (because they perform instead of narrate!) blew me away! They are my favorite narrators...top 2! And you put both of them in a book and it is award winning performance 👏 🙌 They were PERFECT for this book....Perfectly picked as Luke (Vienna) and Gabby. I can not wait for book 2 of their story! J.M.Johnson you sure did send me through the wringer on this book! Please don't hurt me on the next book. 🥺 🙏 🙏 Your writting is AMAZING. 6 out 5 stars! 👌 wow
I'm so addicted to this series...and Vienna! P.s. Don't eat the sandwiches 🤢

Hidden is book four in The Devil's Disciples Series by J.M. Johnson and possibly my favorite so far!
Another brilliantly written dark romance by J.M. Fantastic pacing and well crafted character dynamics and development!
I loved this narrative and the intense anticipation from the moment I pressed play. It is wholly addictive and purely immersive. And with the addition of these fabulous voice actors it is an outstanding experience.
Joe nailed this performance perfectly (as always) and captured this character’s personality, depth and morally grey-ness with incredible precision. A truly remarkable combination of Joe’s ability at achieving the perfect accent and intensity of emotion. A phenomenal performance!
Maxine, has done an incredible job of portraying this characters Gabriella’s personality in all respects of her life. Both fiercely independent and playfully sassy. A brilliant combination of pure talent and utter perfection. Maxine is a true master of her craft and brings out her characters inner most strength and vulnerabilities with such delicate intensity.
An incredible addition to this series and a true masterpiece of audio production. A must for all and any dark, gritty romance fans.

Quotes:
“That's the f*cking problem. Because you keep choosing me in private and leaving me to rot in public."
I was not prepared for how devastating Hidden would be.
This is easily the darkest and most emotionally brutal book in the series. The abuse, trauma, and survival in this story are not for the faint of heart, but that is also what makes it so powerful. The pacing is slower, and it needs to be. Every moment is meant to sit with you, to hurt a little longer, to make you feel exactly what these characters are going through.
Vienna absolutely wrecked me.
His devotion to Gabriella, to the point of obsession, was heartbreaking in every way. The sleepless nights, the drinking, the way he hid his pain behind humor… knowing he was falling apart while no one truly saw through it destroyed me. Everything that makes Vienna who he is ties back to Gabby, and realizing that piece by piece was painful to witness.
And Gabriella… my heart shattered for her.
Everything she endured to survive, for herself and for her mother, was horrific. The sacrifices she made and the way she allowed herself to be seen as the villain just to protect him hurt on another level. Watching everyone believe she betrayed Vienna had me internally screaming. The signs were right there. How did no one see it?
And then the letter.
I sobbed. Not a single tear moment, full emotional breakdown.
And that ending?
My heart was racing and I just sat there staring at my Kindle trying to process what I just read. I am not okay. If this turns into any kind of tragic ending situation, I will not recover.
This book did not just break my heart. It completely shattered it, and I will be thinking about it for a long time and impatiently waiting for the next book to hopefully piece me back together.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This was an arc read Im going to start this with: why why why!! your an evil women j.m johnson with your cliffhangers 🤣!! I swear she is the queen of cliffhangers & i dont know how my kindle survives her books as it nearly gets launched at the wall with every book! She also straps you into an emotional roller coaster & does not let you off until the end of the book I felt every emotion while reading this & i loved it!! This is the 4th book in the devil deciples series & this time follows the story of the vice president of the biker club, vienna & the rival gang, the rough riders, princess, gabriella. Vienna & gabriella have history, they have known each other from been kids & we get to see their past & watch their friendship grow into more through before chapters. Obviously been from rival gangs their love is forbidden & this is a romeo & juliet story that we know is destined for tragedy. Fast forward to current days & gabriella is now the old lady of the rough rider leader nico. Nico is a vile sadistic human being & he has made it into my top 10 most hated character list! And the way he treats gabriella is disgusting, she is trapped with no way out but vienna won't give up that easy on the woman hes loved for so many years. Once again I loved the characters & the banter, vienna has been my favourite character from book 1 & the things that come out of that mans mouth & the things he gets up to is pure comedy gold! Like all of J.M. Johnsons books CHECK YOUR TRIGGERS! Her books are dark & this one is no exception! I cant wait for viennas next book as i need to know what happens next!
If you love dark romance, you'll sure as hell will love this book! We have a Romeo and Juliet kind of vibe with this rivals to lovers and forbidden relationship due to belonging in rival MC clubs. We had a glimpse of their relationship, story and longing in the previous Dante's and Rachel's books, but nothing prepares us for the bad and the ugly this characters went through. With the dual pov and multiple timelines we see them now and we see where they both came from and what took them to the places they are. And let me tell you.. they were not pretty!
Vienna may act goofy, but inside he is fierce, loyal to the bone and obcessed with Gabriella. He fell for her as a teenager and she was his one and only love. They may have been appart but his mind and his heart belong with her. And even appart he can never trully be far away. We see him try to pretend and ignore how he feels but with new information he realises he needs to act now, and so he does. Gabriella is a strong woman who has endured so much pain and trauma and hurt that it's amazing how strong she is. She didn’t let herself get broken and she does it all to protect the ones she loves, includding Vienna.
Nico's character trully is despisable and the author can make us hate him with everything we have. I spent all the story wanting him gone. For good. With a Rachel's method of taking care of people. He sure deserved it! And in this one we have glimpses os Dante and Rachel but they were few and little. I would love to see more of them in the next one.
After all the misconceptions are cleared and truths revealed, that cliffhanger left me gasping! I need to know more. What happened to him? How will they fix it?
Picture this… you meet a boy at 11 years old at the neutral playground, however you’re both from rival biking gangs and none of the bikie gangs are going to allow you to be together in the way that you want to, so for years you develop a secret relationship that hides in the shadows until all hell breaks loose and your own father asks you to end your relationship in a horrifying way that leaves you broken and your boyfriend dead inside.
What follows is years of trauma, men forced upon you, brutal beatings and a life you wish you had if you had have taken the chance with your fathers’ enemy.
This was absolutely incredible, in such a sad way.
I really enjoyed the dual timeline between past and present… It really helped sell their love story from start to finish. I’m so bloody sad for both of them though, what an ordeal these two have been through!
ANDDDD.. that cliffhanger has me absolutely fucking traumatised! I really need to understand what happens next so I’m really excited for book 5.
Thank you Blue Nose Audio for the ALC - Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell did an absolutely fantastic job on the audiobook, they really put every emotion they could into it!
Hidden: A Devil’s Disciples Novel by J.M. Johnson 🎧 Performed in duet style by Maxine Mitchell & Joe Arden First things first... that dedication?! EPIC! ✨ Found Family 🏍️ Motorbike Romance ❤️ Childhood Romance 🔥 Rivals to Friends to Lovers 😏 “Sucking Face” (it's not what you think) If any of those are your thing, please read this book! But fair warning: the content is heavy, so make sure to check the content warnings first. Gabriela and Vienna’s story is far from your typical love-at-first-sight romance. It’s dark, heavy, intense, and oh so good. I couldn’t stop listening... except, you know, life made me work. 😂 This story was gripping and had me clutching my metaphorical pearls throughout. At times, I had absolutely no words. This is why I read…stories that captivate me, pull me in, and leave me thinking about them long after. I strongly recommend this 5 star read. Again, please check those content warnings! And the narration? Fu*king phenomenal. Maxine Mitchell👑 and Joe Arden bring a full multicasting vibe and with accents no less, to this duet style narration. The emotion, the dedication to the characters, and the way they bring this story to life are simply unmatched. They made an already captivating story feel completely immersive, and I got absolutely lost in it. Insanely good!! Do yourself a favor and give this one a listen. You won’t regret it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 Enjoy!
Wow… just wow. This book has hurt my heart so much. I genuinely couldn’t put it down. Once again, JM Johnson has completely blown me away with her writing—she is so incredibly talented, and you can feel it on every single page.
This was such an eagerly awaited read for me, and somehow it still exceeded expectations. But that ending? I’m not okay. I’m honestly not going to be okay for a while. I need some kind of emotional support blanket—or an emotional support animal—just to recover from what I’ve just read.
It is absolutely fantastic. I cannot wait for the rest of the series.
The depth of trauma that Vienna endures, alongside everything Gabriella goes through, is just heartbreaking. Their stories stay with you long after you’ve finished. The loyalty, the obsession, the constant drama surrounding them—it’s intense in the best way. And the abuse Gabriella suffered at Nico… wow. Just wow. Some parts of the book were full on and traumatic to read but I pushed on because of my love for the characters and hey, trigger warnings are there for a reason and I love this series. I have no regrets even if sometimes it was harrowing.
This book doesn’t just tell a story—it makes you feel everything.
I DEVOURED this book. I’ve been waiting since the end of Dante and Rachel’s book to see the world from Viennas point of view and it didn’t disappoint!
We see Vienna as a clown, funny guy and always creating mayhem wherever he goes but in this book you get to see a whole different side to him. The story with his mum, the struggles he faces growing up in the club. His love for Gabriella was just 😍😭 he was always there even when she didn’t know it, always on standby incase she called.
Gabriella’s story was heartbreaking, being with Vienna then the reason they weren’t together (trying to not give spoilers 🙊) the scenes in the clubhouse broke me, especially one of the opening chapters (👁️). I loved her character and learning more about her and the whole story from her POV.
This book was really well written yet again, I loved the flash backs to them growing up then flicking back to the present. This is one of my favourite couples in the Devils Disciples series and I can’t wait to see their story develop in the next book. But girl… that cliffhanger… why’d you keep doing this to me 🤣😭 thank you so much for sending me the ARC copy, I always love reading what you’ve written! 🖤
First things first… CHECK. THE. TRIGGER. WARNINGS. 🚩
Vienna and Gabriella's story was everything I wanted from this series and more. The tension of loving someone you're literally not supposed to love, while knowing that being together could destroy everything? 😩🖤
This story had me completely invested. The stakes kept getting higher, the emotions kept hitting harder, and just when I thought I was going to get more in the next chapter… nope. J.M. Johnson said, “Absolutely not. Here's your cliffhanger.” 😭😂
The narration made the experience even better. The emotion, tension, chemistry, and heartbreak came through so clearly that I was completely pulled into their world.
If you love dark MC romance, morally gray characters, obsession, chaos, and forbidden love … you need this series.
This was emotional, intense, messy, addictive, and absolutely deserving of every one of these five stars.
If you haven’t read Books 1–3 of the Devil’s Disciples series, I highly recommend starting there. While Hidden can be read on its own, I definitely felt like I was missing some character history and backstory that would have made certain moments even more meaningful. Also, be sure to check the trigger warnings before diving in—this book deals with some heavy topics and has several intense scenes.
JM did an excellent job weaving between the past and present, and the transitions flowed seamlessly. The story kept me engaged from beginning to end, and I never found myself wanting to put it down.
The character development was fantastic, especially for Vienna. I loved how the author explored the complexity of both characters and the sacrifices they made for love. Their relationship gave me Romeo and Juliet vibes—a forbidden romance caught between rival MCs—with plenty of angst, emotion, and high stakes.
Overall, this was a well-written, emotional, and intense read that will keep you invested in Gabriella and Vienna’s journey.
First and more most Hidden is dark and triggers came out swinging! Check the triggers before diving in!
Hidden is a mix of a MC romance and Romeo and Juliet. Two rival clubs, two individuals one from each club who are not allowed to be together. This story contains a duel timeline going back and forth between the past and present of Gabriella's and Vienna's lives. This story is rough and not for the faint of heart.
The narration and the voice actors for this story is just chef's kiss! Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden are just dynamite! The accents alone were spectacular and at times I went "I know this is Maxine and Joe, it doesn't sound like them" that's how fantastic their accents were, they sounded like different people entirely. Then there is the raw emotional depth of the story that just hits you right in the stomach and the delivery given by Maxine and Joe was fantastic.
Hidden is another wild ride in this series and honestly just proves again how good J.M. Johnson is at delivering that emotional whiplash. This one leans hard into the dark, gritty MC world and it’s got that heavy, haunting feel the whole way through.
Sophia and Eros completely pulled me in. Sophia is such a standout, she’s strong, layered, and there’s so much going on with her that keeps you guessing right up until the end. The dynamic between her and Eros is intense, messy, and feels inevitable in that way you can’t look away from. The “hidden” parts of her life add this constant tension that just sits under everything and makes it so hard to put down.
The writing is sharp, with that biting sarcasm and real MC banter that makes it feel authentic. The world building is still top tier, and I loved seeing bits of Dante and Rachel in the background because it keeps everything feeling connected.
As predicted, I am emotionally destroyed. I’m obsessed with anything Romeo and Juliet and this MC dark romance with that vibe did not disappoint.
CHECK YOUR TRIGGER WARNINGS! Not much can make me have a physical reaction when listening to a book but y’all…Chapter 40 literally made my jaw drop. And maybe jump in air in shock. Yikes.
The dualing timelines throughout the story really made everything flow nicely. Sometimes the time jumps can seem choppy to me, but JM gave us enough with every chapter that it just wasn’t possible to stop consuming.
Learning the background of the MCs and especially more about Vienna really brought a lot of little things about him from the first three books come to light.
THIS ENDS ON A CLIFFHANGER🫠
The torture of having to wait for the conclusion of their story is not fair 😅
This narration duo is one of my favorites. So…no notes.
Hidden is Book 4 in The Devil's Disciples series. This is Vienna and Gabriella's story. Make sure to check triggers before reading/listening. I loved Vienna in the previous books. I was looking forward to his story. It's a wild, crazy story and an emotional rollercoaster ride. Told in past and present timelines we get a glimpse into Vienna and Gabriella's past from the very beginning. It was great seeing them in different times in their lives and how their past decisions influenced and became a catalyst in their relationship. The buildup to the ending had me on the edge of my seat. Looking forward to the conclusion of their story.
The audiobook is duet narration by Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell. They were amazing as always. I loved their Irish accents. They exuded their characters and brought all the emotions with this one. They both have quite a range and the character transitions were seamless. Each character had a distinct tone that it was easy to tell which character was talking. Overall, I enjoyed it!
Audiobook Release Date: September 10, 2026
Thank you to @bluenoseaudio for my ALC and for the opportunity to review and listen.
4.5⭐️ Wow, what a story. I have really loved the Devils Disciples series, the plot, the banter, the characters.. absolutely brilliant. Having Vienna and Gabbys story was exactly what I needed, although heartbreaking, and I must admit chapter 2.. 🤢. CHAPTER 2! J.M. Johnson really knows how to keep you on your toes and go through every emotion possible. The chemistry between Vienna and Gabriela from their back stories and in the present just keeps you gripped and cheering for them, and the characters she makes you loath. Motorcycle rival gangs pushing for power, gritty dark romance with a very strong plot, graphic scenes of violence, and other themes, so check your triggers. The audio really brought the characters to life, and you really felt the emotional torment they were going through, which made the story even more powerful. The humour is well placed and definitely needed. And that ending...😱

I don't have enough words to bring justice to how amazing this duet narrated performance was. Maxine & Joe did an impeccable job bringing Gabriella & Vienna's story to life. This was truly a goosebump worthy performance & I can't wait to hear them continue to amaze me in book two!♡
