Ebryn has trained as a caster from a young age. He sets out to find a place for himself, travelling to Vergence city, where he hopes to be accepted amongst his own kind. But Ebryn doesn't know he carries a dangerous secret with him. A secret which threatens to overturn the delicate balance between the factions vying for dominance in the city, the heart of a great trading empire. Orim, a skilled warrior, is sent by the ruler of Vergence to discover the truth. Opposing Orim is a deadly assassin, tasked with permanently burying the past. As the struggle for control of the city starts to unfold Ebryn finds he's not the only one with a hidden history.
Very disapointing from my perspective. Far too much is left for the reader to infer and figure out. Its a common device to let the reader to learn the characters, the world and everything else as they go along, and in the first chapter this is done very well as a set up into the main story.
After that it goes down hill with vast amounts of made up words and cultures and creatures that have no significance to the reader and no explanation of what he's looking and and why he should care.
I'm sure some readers will enjoy this book as the writing is at a good level, but I personally could not enjoy the story as I was too busy trying to puzzle out what was happening.
I do not normally write reviews for books i give one star too
I enjoy story's like this. But the flaws in the story telling forced me to stop reading. Disjointed and confusing are the two words i would use to best describe it. Spelling error's are also present that breakup the flow. If you are able to ignore these than you will see a good book. Sadly i could not ignore them.
An entertaining Fantasy thriller. I found myself flipping back to different sections of the book to make sure I didn't miss a part. Can't wait for the next installment.
