Crossroads #2

Absolution Road

Rate this book
For Jake Wrigley, the future is bleak. Some people are survivors, but he’s getting by on his bad-boy looks and charming smile. He owns a gym, gets into bar fights, and wrestles his demons with rough workouts—both in and out of the bedroom.

For Alyson Road, the future is bright. Life can only improve from where she grew up. She graduated at the top of her law class, cares for her ailing mom, and in her job, she defends those who can’t afford anyone else. Her work is thankless but honest.

Jake’s twin brother has been covering his ass for as long as they’ve been alive, but that all changes when Jake finds himself in front of the fiery public defender, his future in her hands. For the first time ever, he doesn’t want to involve his brother, finally realizing he needs to stand alone, be his own man.

Even if Jake’s never absolved of his past wrongdoings or his heart is never scrubbed of the blackness that resides there, he can do one good deed—protect the beautiful lawyer who touched his soul—until helping her nearly becomes his own undoing.

Absolution Road is an emotional and stunning story of a broken man with a past he’s trying to overcome, and a strong woman with a future she’s worked hard to get to. Jake and Aly meet in an unconventional way. He’s been arrested and she is his public defender. Jake made a mistake, but he’s not a bad person. He’s a man who’s got a past that has scarred him. A past he can’t ever seem to get away from. A past he’s trying so hard to break free of.
There was no appeasing me. No amount of success, and no dirty fucks or heavy workouts were going to absolve me. I was still constantly seeking more, but I was clueless as to when it would be enough.

description

Aly keeps to herself. She has one close friend she went to law school with and she takes care of her sick mother. She doesn’t get close to people. When she and Jake start running into each other, she is hesitant to get close to him of all people. But he wears her down. Jake see’s a woman with strength in Aly, but he also sees someone he needs to take care of. Someone he wants to protect, to be there for. For the first time ever he sees someone worth trying for. He wants to try to be better for this girl, and that is a big deal for someone like Jake.
With this girl, I wanted something I’d never wanted before. To be a better man. For her. For me.

description

I loved both of these characters. Even though both of them had moments of weakness, they were both so strong for the other and carried them through the hard times. Aly was there for Jake when he needed her to lift him up and support him, then when Aly’s hard times came, Jake had that strength to help her, to show her how much she was worth.

The end of this book blew me away. Not only was I shocked with that happened, but the emotions were overwhelming. The unconditional love that was shown made my heart soar. Even though there were some hard to read heart wrenching moments, by the end I was left with a huge smile on my face. My heart was happy. And I felt…. complete ;) Rachel Blaufeld did a fantastic job with this story. The writing was top notch. This was a total win for me and one I highly recommend.

A beautifully written tale of 2 people who both feel like undeserving of love, Absolution Road was an enjoyable read that captured me throughout.

Jake is one of a pair, he is a twin who has always felt the lesser person for various reasons and is full of guilt over the death of his parents. Aly is a public defence lawyer who grew up poor and has never felt like she belonged anywhere.

They first meet when Aly is called out one Christmas Eve to represent Jake after a bar brawl, and they feel an instant attraction towards one another.

"It wasn't the time for hitting on the hot public defender, or thinking about eating her pussy. I was in jail, and this was extremely bad."

Aly is in no way open to showing her feelings towards Jake, but fate has another plan for them when months later they keep bumping into each other, and Jake decides that he is going to take advantage of kismet by insisting she goes on a date with him.

Alyson Road is full of confidence when she is in the courtroom or with her clients, however once she steps outside of her professional box, she is a very insecure and introvert woman. What could the handsome and fit mutli gym owner possibly want with her? Little does she know, that he is looking for love and he sees something in her that he wants to take hold of and protect.

This was a story about two people who were both feeling inadequate, until they met each other and helped the other to heal. There is also a great suspense story going on in the background which made it all a bit more interesting.

"It was like I saw a better me in you. I know I bossed you around and made you move, but something hit me hard with you."

Having not read book 1, Redemption Lane, I didn't feel lost at all, and pretty much got the gist of the events that took place prior to Jake and Aly's story.

This is Book 2 in the Crossroads Series, but can be read as a Standalone. Told in dual POV.

Absolution Road totally exceeded my expectations! This book was absolutely outstanding!

Jake is definitely a book boyfriend that will stay with you forever. This character is rugged, dominant, bossy, dirty talker, strong, huge and muscular but also protective, honest, sweet, fair and incredibly sexy! Jake is tormented by his past and more specifically he accuses himself of his parents’ death. When they were nine, Jake and his twin brother had escaped their nanny’s attention and little Jake had unconsciously caused a severe damage in the family car, which eventually led to the fatal accident. For many years, Jake has been feeling guilty, like a huge weight is on his shoulders the whole time.

 photo 20c19dc0e6dc0d01c0d0f0198bd86a0a 1_zpsdmn1osjt.jpg

Dr. Wells would tell me, “Jake, you lost all control when your parents died and Shirley took away your ability to make it right. You crave control, but you also need distance. It’s a recipe for loneliness.” – Jake

Jake and his brother, Lane, run a very successful gym chain. Jake daily and methodically works out in order to remove all the tension and the psychological stress. He’s a player and his favorite adventure is his abundant sexcapades. Until he meets Aly.

Aly is a strong, independent woman working as a public defender. She cares for her sick mom and is all modest, kind and loving. Jake is instantly attracted to her and is enchanted by her sexy, long legs!! Aly never needed a man to take care of her, until Jake. The good girl soon falls in love with the bad guy, and Jake feels the vibe and his soul wide opens to her. Jake now realizes that by keeping himself so guarded, he was wasting his life and losing out on the chance to feel alive again.

I adored this love story. Jake was such a vibrant presence throughout the story. The chemistry between him and Aly was off the charts. These two were simply amazing together. Tenderness, longing, and love were a major part of this story.

 photo d75b5b3dc00f8629c89d35e6ec054ad2_zpsvhs3tnte.jpg

The twists and turns that take place near the end of the book are going to drastically change the dynamic of their relationship. But, Jake will show Aly how thoughtful and passionate he is and will prove his unconditional love in every way. These two complex and so opposite characters will manage to find the way to accept their weaknesses and work on their strengths.

I closed this book happy, dreamy, and rosy. I highly recommend it!

5 - "One and a half is better than none." Stars!

Absolution Road gives us the second Wrigley Brothers story. This time it is Jake and although he featured in Redemption Lane his character was not one that came across as particularly likeable for a lot of the story. Of course as that book progressed you did see more of him and his motivations in relation to his interactions with his brother Lane, and the reasons behind a lot of his actions.

Jake is a troubled character, and Rachel Blaufeld, has given him a story as emotionally engrossing and beautifully written as his brother Lane’s was. I think what strikes me most as a reader with this authors books is that although the romance is integral to everything that happens, the story is so much more than that.

Jake for all his complexities, and personal demons is essentially a nervous teenager when it comes to his relationship with Aly, having been more of the one and done, kind of guy before she enters his life, I found his nervousness about entering a relationship with her and his second-guessing of everything he tried to do for her so endearing, this big muscled hulk of a man, bought to his knees by the one woman you would least expect him to really be attracted to.

Once again the author also gave us a strong female, Alyson Road is someone you can empathize with, strong and independent, Jake’s pursuance of her and the almost innocent bumbling along of his efforts to do the right thing, but usually in the totally wrong way gave this couple a lot of moments together where you just kind of stopped reading to smile to yourself for a moment.

”You’re not in control when it comes to this. I am.”

There is a lot going on in this book, all relative to Jake and Aly’s developing relationship. The reasons for their initial meeting have far reaching consequences as the story between them plays out. Once again the author took the plot somewhere I wasn’t expecting it to go, and I think that is one of the huge assets her already pretty stellar writing skills, added to the dual POV and the inclusion of Lane and Bess, it was an unputdownable, emotional thrill-ride of a read.

I am a relatively new member of the Rachel Blaufeld fan club, I went for full lifetime membership after reading this series. To say I await her future releases with eager anticipation would be a massive understatement, and I cannot recommend this book and the series highly enough.

5 "I felt whole." Stars

Rachel Blaufeld writes unique stories with fascinating characters. There isn't a time when you don't feel connected to her stories during reading. This newest book is the story of Jake Wrigley and Aly Road - two people who weren't expecting each other but found each other in the most unlikely of places. It's sweet and fast, painful and gripping. After meeting Jake in Redemption Lane I thought I had an idea of what to expect from his character when it came time for his book. In Absolution Road Blaufeld allows him to truly SHINE while she completely dismantles any expectation I had. He's a hero you'll completely fall in love with.

Told from the dual points of view of both Jake and Aly, the contemporary romance story in Absolution Road hails as one of redemption. Letting go, moving forward, and understanding who you are for yourself and who you are while falling in love with another person you least expected. During the best and worst of times we see Jake and Aly emotionally and physically deal with the changes being wrought from the lives. As Aly's future becomes more challenging than she ever expected, Jake's past sneaks up on him to remind him of his deepest wounds.

Blaufeld's writing concisely shows us the darkest pains and brightest pleasures of these two characters. The plot of the book keeps the reader engaged from beginning to end. The sexy banter coupled with an overcoming a resistance to change from both characters makes for really excellent dialogue. And the themes running through the book are quite profound. Secondary characters from book one pop up in the story enriching the history and present of both characters. However, Absolution Road can be read as a stand alone. Blaufeld did a great job of making it a complete stand alone title if you choose to not read book one although I wouldn't personally recommend it because you'd be missing another great story.

"With this girl, I wanted something I'd never wanted before. To be a better man. For her. For me."

Absolution Road by Rachel Blaufeld was an emotional, poignant, touching and inspirational story on love, hope, and second chances. Ms. Blaufeld spellbinds her readers as she chronicles a man living in his own purgatory while weaving and exposing the raw human emotions of pain, guilt, loss, sadness, love, and trust.

#Absolution2

I did not read the first book Redemption Lane so I went in totally blind as to what I was getting myself into as I read Jake Wrigley's story. Luckily for me, this book can be read as standalone but trust me after reading Absolution Road, this made me want to get to know Jake's twin, Lane. In Absolution Road, we are introduced to Jake Wrigley, a broken man who suffers with his own inner demons and guilt. His parents death impacted Jake in such a way that he feels responsible for their death. When Jake lands himself in jail after getting in an altercation, he meets his public defender Aly Road. Aly informs Jake that he is free to go since the other guy is not going to press charges. In that one fated meeting, there was something about Aly that intrigued Jake like she was meant to save him. Fast forward to a couple months later, Aly sees Jake again and this time he makes it his mission to integrate himself into her life. As Jake spends more time with her, he sees this beautiful, strong independent woman who is struggling financially but is too stubborn to ask for help. In wanting to help her, he does these small and big gestures that surely will have any woman swooning.

"...I was meant for you, Aly, for however long you'll let me stay. So, let me in."

#absolution1

As Aly begins to let Jake into her life, he begins to worry that she be running in another direction once she learns of his past. When Jake finally tells her of his secret, it does not scare Aly but instead allows her to see that the broken man she is falling for needs her love to save him from drowning in his guilt, pain, and loss. Slowly without realizing it, Jake begins to see the light and hope that shines with Aly by his side. A once broken heart begins to heal and get pieced back together. And as for Aly, she slowly begins to let Jake into her life. With very few friends, Jake awakens and ignites this intense and burning passion in Aly. A new spark of hope begins to awaken them both. No longer in the dark their love awaken the possibility that their hope and lives can change. As they begin their relationship, will Jake's guilt keep him from truly moving forward on this new road of love and healing? Or will the road to happily ever after veer off course when darkness begins to cast its shadows on Aly and Jake?

#absolutionRoad

The story of Aly and Jake will awaken all the FEELS! Absolution Road was heartbreakingly beautiful and touching. Ms. Blaufeld truly captured everything from every action, vulnerability, dialogue, and raw emotions. All the feels were tangible and palpable as it courses through every page. Aly and Jake's story is one of those fated love tales that speaks volumes of unconditional love and healing. I honestly don't want to say much since there is a big unexpected shocking twist of events. But I will say that Absolution Road is a book that needs to be experienced and savored. It is a journey where Ms. Blaufeld will reminds us all that love is an unconditional commitment to an imperfect person. To love somebody isn't just a strong feeling but it's a decision and promise that you will love everything about your significant other...flaws and all. So if you are looking for a book that speaks so many volumes on love, hope and second chances then I highly recommend you to read Absolution Road. Be prepared to get lost in Aly and Jake's story that will remind us all to not let our fears and past hold us a prisoner. Let hope and love set us free.

This is the second Blaufeld book I have read and it is just as fabulous as book 1 in the Crossroads Series. Here we finally get the story of Jake Wrigley. The big, cocky twin who hides his pain thru adrenalin and pleasure. He is constantly messing up and in need of a bail out. Landing in jail is one situation he does not want to involve his brother Lane in. Coming face to face with the Alyson Road, public defender, on Christmas Eve starts his life on a new path…perhaps the one to happiness.

"With this girl, I wanted something I'd never wanted before. To be a better man. For her. For me."

If you are a fan of broken souls, especially men then Jake Wrigley is the man for you. Haunted by his past, he has made a lifetime of bad decisions yet he is a truly genuine good guy. Everything he does is overshadowed by a constant feel of worthlessness. It would take a strong woman to see thru his swagger and make him see his worth!

Alyson Road...truly one of my fave heroines. Hard working and smart…cautious…yearning to fly just once. She is no match for Jake Wrigley but she is so deserving of what he could give her, even for a moment.

“He might want to protect me, but I needed him to set me free. With him I needed to soar, to actually live, not just survive, and I wanted to love.”

This read is both sweet and sexy. It is fast yet developed. It is fully on lusty that quickly escalates to beautiful passion. At the peak of the story the love story becomes so much more as these two characters are met with tragic and heartbreaking issues. BOOM! Jake Wrigley and all of his demons will make you a believer. There is nothing better than a man in love…well, maybe a man fighting for that love!

What a unique and touching story! I loved Jake from Redemption Lane he is a complete opposite from his twin brother Lane, except maybe with the ladies. Jake's story truly didn't disappoint, he had the sex appeal, heart, toughness and over the top flamboyant ways, the complete package. He really struggled with coming to terms with what happened when he was a child and his inner demons, it was raw and his choice of coping mechanisms were realistic.

 photo tumblr_mcuhoc4tEL1rj4uwyo1_500_zps409ab379.gif

Alyson, Aly, Legs, Aly-cat was a strong heroine, I loved her. She was aware of her insecurities but didn't wallow on them, there were parts where she could have taken on the needy, whiny, clingy part but didn't. Something happens (don't want to give to much away) and that is when Aly's strength and courage brought me to tears.

Both of these stories, in the Crossroads series are completely unique from most books I have read and I applaud Rachel for taking on some bold issues and making the books realistic.

"My mind whirled, trying to come up with a way to fix this. Maybe I should have started smaller than an apartment? Like flowers, or a puppy? Nah"
Awe Jake, you think!! LMAO!

The steam factor and was off the charts!

"Yes, that's what happens when a sex-starved lawyer who graduated with high honors sees a sexy-as-fuck forearm. We drool"

4.5*

Absolution Road is a completely captivating, emotional, and gripping book. It's the second in the Crossroad series- we finally get to see inside Jake's head and find answers and resolutions to the questions we were left with in Redemption Lane.

I wasn't sure what to expect from Jake, he wasn't the most compelling character in his brother's book, honestly. But I completely fell for him, almost from the start.

While Lane had his burdens to bear, Jake was the one living with the real demons. But he's never been one to analyze or delve deeply into his feelings- he's been living his life, almost just going through the motions- running his gyms, working out, and having cheap meaningless sex. Until Alyson enters his life. He's not sure what it is about this buttoned-up lawyer that gets to him, but there's something about her that makes him feel things he's never quite felt before.

"She ignited something inside me, a desire to protect and care for her, or some weird crap like that. What was this- Oprah?"

Like Resolution Lane, Absolution Road is a really heartfelt, emotional read. Jake and Alyson's realtionship is not smooth sailing, at all- they encounter quite a few obstacles on their path to finding love, some that are easily worked through, while others will have you on the edge of your seat with your heart in turmoil.

I loved the growth we see in both Jake and Aly as the book goes on. Jake starts to take control and take responsibility for his actions- he realizes it's time for him to grow up and not rely on Lane to bail him out any longer. We see Aly start to come out of her self-imposed shell, shed some of her insecurities, and blossom.

Everything about this book is so well done, Rachel did such an amazing job bringing these characters and story to life.

5 Stars, Just Beautiful

I read both books in this series over the past few days and I am now nursing a serious book hangover! What an emotional but oh so beautiful ride with these brothers!!!!

I couldn't wait to dive into Jake's story because my heart not only wanted but needed to know how Jake made out in life. Let me tell you, Jake's journey to self-discovery, self-forgiveness was absolutely moving, touching and amazingly beautiful in every way! I adored Jake in the first book, yes, he had his demons but underneath his tough exterior was a truly caring and loving man.

Jake meeting Aly was by pure coincidence and the phrase "everything happens for a reason" certainly pertained to this couple! I loved both Jake and Aly and no, it wasn't an easy road, as a matter of fact a very unexpected and tragic event transpires which tests both of their strengths within themselves and each other. I have to say, I was honestly on the edge of my seat for the majority of the read because I wasn't sure where or what Jake would do, lol, yeah I had a feeling he was going to self-destruct or just plain destruct whatever "good" came his way and oh boy, was I ever surprised with him. He totally proved me wrong and I was so damn glad that he did!

What a beautiful journey this book took me on and not just with Jake and Aly but OMG I got to see more of my girl crush, Bess and that oh so special Lane, Jake's brother. I loved James, too, he added THAT much more depth to this wonderful family and Ioved every minute!

The ending of this book and the place this family is at, I absolutely LOVED..... It was so worth the emotions I went through:)

Congrats yet again, Author Rachel Blaufeld, you are a truly brilliant writer and you never cease to amaze me. Your stories are written flawlessly and are so darn unique and that is why you are always under my "favorite" author list!!!! Thank you for a memorable series in which I will always remember these characters fondly!!!!!! Please never give up your talent for writing because it would crush me:)

After meeting Lane's twin brother Jake in Redemption Lane, I was anxiously awaiting this follow up book by Rachel Blaufeld.

Jake is successful in business with and without the help of his brother. However he is a "hot" mess emotionally. He ends up in jail at the end of RL and that sets the backdrop for this story. When Jake meets public defender Aly he can't get her out of his mind. She is a confident and smart heroine in her work but timid and unsure on the inside.

This is a wonderful story of a relationship that blooms when both the hero and heroine meet and embark into a physical and emotional relationship that neither has been in before. They grow together and work through issues that are both holding them back individually and not allowing them to let their relationship reach a full potential.

In the end, I loved Jake and Aly, separate and apart at characters. Rachel did a beautiful job with the story telling and the writing was fantastic. I can't wait for more from her!

This book just wasn't for me. The story wasn't terrible, good idea, I just didn't like the execution. I usually find myself immersed in a book by chapter 2 or 3, and can easily finish in a day. How ever I never got into this book, I tried believe me I tried. I received my copy as an arc and I felt I at least owed it to the author to try. By 20% I already wanted to give up but I had a tiny bit of curiosity about what would happen with Alyson and Jake, so I pushed on. Then by the time I got to 34%, which took me two days, I just couldn't anymore. I did feel some of the grammar and word choices could've been better. i.e...it was such a sensual sensation. There were also some parts I felt were over explained making me lose interest. This book obviously works for others, just not me I guess.

This book was really good. I actually liked this one a bit more than Bess and Lane's. I didn't know what to expect from Jake's story from what we were shown in Book 1, but I loved Jake right from the start. He was easy to love. Aly was a little different. She sometimes seemed whiney to me...but I quickly got over it and really liked their story. They really had to battle a lot to get their ending....but it was a good story.

Rachel asked me to beta read Absolution Road and I was thrilled. I know I’ve said it before but… Rachel’s writing has grown so much over the years. Her books and writing keep getting better and better. Absolution Road did not disappoint. At all.

Rachel brought so much to this story. The romance and steamy scenes we all love are there but there is so much depth to the plot. The twists and turns, emotions, drama and suspense will have you hooked from the beginning and coming back for more.

Can we talk about Jake for a minute? Jake. How can you not love Jake? Yeah he’s controlling and bossy and he knows what he wants. And who he wants. Alyson. And he has no problem telling her how it is going to be. But he is also sweet, adorable and charming and underneath it all he’s damaged, broken and hurt. I wanted to hug him and make it all better. He’s also very witty. I mean really funny at times. Like I was laughing out loud when reading. So yeah, Jake. Perfect book boyfriend.
Ok. Back to the story. Oh the emotions. Rachel sure knew how to get to me. The ups and downs had me all over the place. But that’s a good thing. I love being attached to and invested in the characters and story. An author that makes you do that- that’s the sign of a good writer. And the suspense and drama had me wanting to know more.

So, in case you can’t tell, I loved it. All of it. Read Book 1 first, Redemption Lane if you haven’t so you know the characters and what’s going on and then jump right into Absolution Road!!

Review by Jen Hagen

Jake and Lane are twins, and whereas Lane has always been the rule follower Jake has been the rule breaker. I seem to be drawn to the bad boys, because I felt like I instantly wanted to join the harem of Jake’s women. Lane was featured in the book “Redemption Road” and although I liked him, I felt more of an instant attraction to Jake in this book. You do not need to have read the first book to enjoy the second. This can be read as a standalone.

Jake is 31 years old, owns a couple successful fitness centers, and still harbors immense guilt for his parents’ death when he was 9 years old --so much guilt that he can’t really move forward in his life. He is stuck in purgatory, needing to find that one thing that will grant him absolution so that he can forgive himself.

There was no appeasing me. No amount of success, and no dirty f*cks or heavy workouts were going to absolve me. I was still constantly seeking more, but I was clueless as to when it would be enough.

He is bitter at Lane because Lane is now living a happy life with a loving wife and daughter. Jake may be angry at Lane, but at the same time Jake is beginning to see that Lane is truly happy-- maybe that kind of life would be possible for him too if he could just let go of the past. Jake’s past is ladled with a lot of mistakes that are now beginning to add to his self-declared pity party.

I wanted to get down on my hands and knees and pray to a God I didn’t believe in for forgiveness for my past transgressions. If need be, I would beg for a second chance to be deserving of some goodness, even if it only was for a short while.

Alyson is a 27-year-old public defender. She first meets Jake on Christmas Eve when Jake took a stand on not calling Lane to bail him out. Now it seems like every place they go, they see each other and Jake tries his hardest to get Alyson to admit there’s a reason why fate keeps placing them together. Alyson is very work oriented and she has recently been placed on a very high-profile case. She is pretty much a no-nonsense girl and plays strictly by the rules. Jake loves to break rules, so she doesn’t see how they could possibly have anything in common. Jake is very persistent and eventually it will pay off.

“By some cruel twist of fate, I was meant to be meet you, to meet a woman who’s way too good for me, but who needs me to take care of her.”

Things never go easy for Jake and an event will take place that will truly test his will to find the act of forgiveness that he believes he needs. Does he need absolution or does he just need love?

“Come back to me. I love you.”

“Jake Wrigley was one step above a criminal, and I was a public defender who believed in justice.”

Having read and enjoyed Redemption Lane I was excited to start on Lane’s twin brother’s book. Jake is so different than Lane but I loved him so much. But really who doesn’t love a sexy, tattooed, ex-athlete bad boy. But it’s story of loss and inability to believe that he deserves to love and be loved that truly made this such a beautiful love story. Then there is the sexy lawyer, Allison, who grew up so poor that she comes with her own laundry list of insecurities and doubts. But watching these two broken people try to help heal the other and finally own the fact that they want their own HEA was refreshing, unique and very well done.

“I’m not trying to tie your good name to my shitty one. I know I’m a bad apple, but just give me a little of your goodness. I may never get anything like that again.”

It’s Christmas Eve and Jake has found himself in trouble again. After defending his employee/hookup partner Camper’s honor in a bar he has gotten arrested for assault and has once again confirmed his worst fear, that he is the screw up brother. Unwilling to ruin his family’s holiday he takes a public defender but never expected that choice to change his whole life. When sexy, fiery, take no crap lawyer Allison Camp arrives he can’t help himself from putting the moves on her, but she has no problem shooting him down. Months later and a free man Jake and Allison keep running into each other and bad boy Jake is determined to get her to give him a shot.

“You feel so fucking good, so tight and wet. Like heaven but better, because you’re Aly.”

The first part of the book was steady and was setting everything up. A smooth read I was prepared for easy sailing. But I should have known better. By 50% the drama had me hooked and by 70% nothing in the world could have convinced me to put the book down. Rarely am I as surprised by a twist in a plot like I was in Absolution Road. I can usually see things coming and am prepared for them but Rachel sis am amazing job of not shocking me, making me stare at my kindle with my mouth hanging wide open.

“Be my Aly-Cat.”

Rachel is quickly becoming an author I can count on to tell a fresh take on a story. Absolution Road had a lot of well used themes but done in a new way with exciting twists and turns. Mixing hot as hell sex, a sweet love story with action and angst Rachel has found the right formula for a book that will leave you wanting more!

This review was hard for me to write, for a few different reasons. First, at the beginning of the book I was teetering between 4-4.5 stars and I hated that because I LOVE Rachel Blaufeld and all of her work. And the only reason I felt this way is because I hated how horribly Alyson saw herself. However, somewhere between the first quarter and the first half of the book it sky rocketed to 5 stars and literally left me craving and yearning for more.

Normally, I start with the heroine, but this time I’m starting with the hero, Jake. Holy smoking hotness, Jake. My heart hurt for him so much in the story, and I wished he was a real person I could hug and comfort.

“But I wasn’t whole. I had a past. A bad one.”

Jake has this hard, tough guy façade but inside, he was one amazingly soft and sweet human being. He was selfless and kind and he knew Alyson (Aly) was the one for him.

“My cheek prickled under her touch and my heart tumbled with emotion. Yes, my bad-ass black heart tumbled.” – SEE?! He. Is. Perfect. Imperfections and all.

Alyson Road—Aly—is a character that you love, but she’s also a character that drives you mad. I hated that she was so hard on herself. I totally understand why, but as a reader, I saw and felt her beauty written throughout the pages.

When something terrible happens to Aly, Jake’s world—and hers—is changed dramatically. I am not going to spoil ANYTHING, but let me just say, I was left in TEARS. I hated that this happened to them when they were just finding out that they BOTH deserved to be happy. Ugh, even just writing about it, shatters my heart into a million tiny pieces.

“We stayed like that for a while, her cheek tucked into my neck, a river of tears falling from her eyes and sliding down my throat.”

Rachel Blaufeld wrote Jake and Alyson’s story exactly as it needed to be. The feelings were real and intense and the words molded together to bring together the life of the characters effortlessly. While reading it, you can’t help but look at your life. Aly and Jake spent so much of their lives denying themselves the happiness they deserved and even when life threw them completely off kilter, they rolled with the punches and came out on top and better than ever.

This is right there at the top with my favorites. I highly recommend Absolution Road, or anything by Rachel Blaufeld. The way she writes is just beautiful, and you feel like you're living life right there with her characters.

Absolution, an act of absolving, a freeing from blame or guilt. It's something that a lot of us long for or need, whether in a small or a monumental way. In Rachel Blaufeld's newest book in the Crossroads series, Absolution Road, she takes us on a journey of grace and liberation. This excursion brings to life Jake and Aly's story. Jake is Lane's twin brother from the previous story, Redemption Lane. We are visited by Lane and Bess as well as some of the other characters we know and loved in prior books.

Jake Wrigley is messed up. On the outside everyone sees muscles and a pretty face. On the inside, deep down in the very depths of his soul he knows he's no good! Jake has felt this way since his parent’s death. He blames himself because it was his fault. Sure he's successful in his gym business. Thanks in part to his brother. But it's hard for him to get close to anyone, because he doesn't feel he deserves a happily ever after. That is the way he felt until he meets Alyson Road one Christmas Eve. Fate seems to play a part in this meeting and everything begins to change for Jake.

Alyson Road is an up and coming public defender. Coming from nothing, she always watches out for the underdog or someone being taken advantage of, even if it causes her unrelenting trouble. Everyone deserves a fair shot. However, when she comes in contact with Jake Wrigley as his court appointed attorney, things get really interesting and she finds herself wanting her own piece of happiness.

From the very beginning I was hooked. Rachel Blaufeld has a way of corralling you and keeping you pinned up until the very end. I am in awe of her ability to conjure up the most beautiful stories with amazing plots. This novel left me happy, in angst, crying and then shouting hallelujah all at the same time! When things get rocky, the story gets even better. This is a must to add to your library! Exquisitely satisfying, Rachel!

Hero – Jake Wrigley 5 stars

Absolution Road is the second book in the Crossroads series from author Rachel Blaufeld and while it may be possible to read this as a standalone, I'm highly recommending that you read the first book, Redemption Lane, before tackling this one so that you have a more well-rounded reading experience. While the series started with the story of Lane Wrigley and Bess Williams and gave readers the back story involving Lane's family, here we have Lane's twin, Jake, still dealing with the ramifications of his parents' death. There's no denying that Jake is a tortured soul and thinks himself unworthy of the love and happiness Lane has. The role he believes he played in the car accident that took his parents' lives has left him riddled with guilt that, whether as the child he was and the adult he is now, cannot be easily absolved.

This was a fast-paced story, one that was going in a direction that I was expecting until BAM! I was taken by surprise by the turn of events and how everything played out until the very end. Rachel Blaufeld threw in a twist I didn't see coming in the first book and she appears to have done it again here. There's no doubt that she keeps things exciting when it comes to her stories, and you certainly won't get any complaints from me. This book has romance and sex and a hint of mystery suspense, all of which kept my attention from wavering from start to finish. Jake and Aly may seem like an unlikely pairing, but they just made sense as a couple, filling the gaps in each other's lives and helping one another overcome their pasts and the challenges lay ahead for them. Everything comes full circle in Absolution Road and it gets 4.5 stars, rounded off to five stars for Goodreads. ♥

Absolution Road is the second book in the Crossroads series from Rachel Blaufeld. While you can read this one as a standalone, I truly urge you to read Redemption Lane before diving into Jake's story. Redemption Lane gives you added details that will boost your love for these characters.

Jake and Alyson's story is an emotional one. Right from the start you can see that Jake harbors heaps of guilt, and his self-worth is low. His anguish runs as deep as the river that flows beneath the deck of his home. Underneath his rippling muscles and brooding bad boy exterior, he has a tender soft side.

“My cheek prickled under her touch and my heart tumbled with emotion. Yes, my bad-ass black heart tumbled.

On the outside Alyson presents herself as a strong and independent career woman, but you find out she is lonely, almost living her life in isolation. It would be fair to say she puts Jake through the paces with her stubbornness. You will either laugh or want to shake her at times.

The story itself develops beautifully in the way these two characters come together. It feels honest and real. There is romance and mystery, as well as suspense, and a shocking event that, well... I still cannot get over.

Blaufeld's writing flows superbly with smooth transitions from scene to scene. Readers will appreciate the way Absolution Road unfolds in a natural progression.

If you have yet to discover Rachel's work, I say to you--> "What are you waiting for?!?!" Start reading NOW! Trust me, you won't be disappointed, and all you'll want is more from this talented author.

Five stars from me, an inspiring MUST READ!

Absolution Road is the second book in the series, and although it can be read as a standalone, the first book should really be read first for maximum understanding.

Jake holds on to a lot of pain and anguish on the inside. He blames himself for a tragic accident when he was a child and has not worked through all of the guilt, and he has a long road to tow to let go of all of those feelings. He resents his brother because he has everything that Jake doesn’t. Family, and a happy life. Jake want’s these things, but the only way he can achieve them is if he can let go of the past.

Aly is a public defender and while she has a tough hardened exterior she is quite lonely and isolated on the inside. She is good at her job, and very career minded. She is not the rule breaker that Jake is.

These two first run into each other on Christmas Eve when Jake refuses to call Lane to bail him out of jail. After that, it seems that fate is trying to put them together because they are always running in to each other. Aly doesn’t want to seem to acknowledge that there might be something pulling them together but Jake has persistence, and Aly finally caves.

Some circumstances come forward that will test Jake, and all that he is working for.

There is so much in this book that I loved. I was pulled in from the start, and even though I didn’t read the first book, I thoroughly loved the story. This is my first Rachel Blaufeld read and I was pleasantly surprised at her writing. An exciting plot, lots of angst, and some amazing characters make this a 5 star read.

One broken path, one paved road...two people with virtually nothing in common but both needing to find that other person to be whole.
Jake, a man with so much anger, guilt and resentment. He didn't feel he deserved love or what to do with it if he ever got it.
Alyson, a woman so alone in the world who even though put on a strong face was so inscure and independent at the same time.
They met when Alyson has to go down to jail to be Jake's public defender. He can't get her out of his mind. "All of a sudden, my cock was raising to the occasion, and not for the birth of Jesus Christ."~ Jake.
I loved the buildup, I like it when the author doesn't rush the beginning of a relationship. It feels more authentic.
The storyline kept me on my toes, not wanting to put it down. I cried a few times (mind you I'm a softie) but many parts will tug on your heart strings. The ups and downs, highs and lows were are what made the book so good. Loved this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Btw....love Gin Blossoms and Allison Road, although I think they spelled it wrong ;)

If I could give this book a 10 I would! Dear Rachel you blew me away again!!! I thought I loved Lane and Bess, but you knocked it out of the park with Jake, Aly and Mav! it was perfect!! I received an ARC and it blew me away! I love a book that makes you feel what the characters are feeling as you turn the pages and this one really did it.. for me this book is about finding your truth, believing again after being damaged.. not losing hope and finding the one person that can shake your world in an instant just by looking at them.. I could see a lot of Jake in me which is why I devoured this book in just one sitting, the way he wanted to protect and love Aly like he never have done before.. it seriously did a number on me.. and Aly.. wow I wasn't sure of you in the first few chapters, but then you grew on me and stayed in my heart.. your strength, your passion and the way you cared for Jake was amazing.. This is a book that I will seriously recommend to anyone because let's be honest all of us are looking for that absolution road..

This is Jake's story. You met him in Resolution Lane. He is the twin brother of Lane. To get the entire story, I would suggest reading that book first.
Jake has a lot of guilt and pain that he isn't working through. The story starts out with him in jail on Christmas Eve. In comes Allyson, the public defender. He is instantly smitten. But he knows that he is no good for her.
After several run ins with each other, neither can deny this feelings. Aly, has some issues of her own. She is the tough lawyering the outside but really is a shy and lonely girl.
They are both fighting demons, more so Jake. He tells her everything, hoping to scare her off.
This was a really good read. Seeing how Jake finally come to peace with everything. I felt for Aly and everything that happened to her. Lane and Bess are also a part of the story.
Being from Pennsylvania, it was nice to see how the author brought out all the sides of Pittsburgh.

LOVED this duet about Jake, the second twin of the Crossroads Duet. This story deals with some of the same issues that we learned about in the first book, which is why I suggest reading them in order even though they are listed as standalones. When read in order and together you are afforded a whole picture of the family dynamic, drama, forgiveness, caring, love, and the need for absolution.

Alyson and Jake are a great yin and yang for the story. Some of the secondary characters that make appearances I could have done without. I will say that the plot twist hit me around midnight, caused me to read until I couldn't keep my eyes open or hold my Kindle up any longer only to get a few hours of sleep with the need to finish before going to work the next morning....can I just say BOOK HANGOVER!!

Jake and Aly’s love story is a powerful one. Aly is strong right from the start. I love a good strong female lead. Jake is a bad boy right from the start. These two meet in prison! Well, he’s in prison and she’s his lawyer. Sparks fly the moment he sets eyes on her, and she feels the same way, although she won’t admit it since he’s her client. Both Jake and Aly are broken and complex, but the tenderness Jake feels for Aly despite his problems shines through. When these two finally come together, I cheered and cried and felt my heart melt at how tenderly tough-guy Jake treated Aly. This story broke me down and then put me back together again. But there’s a lot more than a love story here. There’s intrigue and mystery and a shocking scene that I still can’t get over! I loved Jack and Aly. You cannot miss this one. A total must read!

Jake, Jake, Jake!! Broody, a bad boy, and a heart of gold. It was easy to love and root for this man.

Alyson was a a headstrong character who I enjoyed even though I wanted to yell at her a couple times!

I really enjoyed the career aspect of this story as it added a bit of mystery and suspense to Jake and Aly's love story. I held my breath through a few parts.

Epilogues! I felt like we got two epilogues in this story and I really loved that. It was the perfect ending. I felt such a strong sense of family and overcoming obstacles after completing this book.
