What has he done to her? She would never agree to that unless he had done something horrible to her. Degmer just knows that Neaotomo had done something to Laysa while she was away. Then she sees how nicely Neaotomo is treating Laysa and how rudely he is treating her. Could Laysa really be cooperating with Neaotomo as he says? In Paths of Intimate Contention, Degmer’s puzzle is only one of the riddles that must be solved by the people of Kosundo. Degmer must choose a side. Will she make the right decision? Walter E Mark’s second novel in The Sixth World of Men series interweaves related stories set over a short time frame in Kosundo. There is firstly an intriguing relationship battle taking place between Laysa and Degmer, as they are manipulated by the strange being Neaotomo. The mad Emperor also faces a power struggle to retain his position, as his Lord Director has other plans. We also see Agap and Holon’s involvement as they lead their technology teams through these testing times in the history of the Sixth World, as beings form another dimension look to take hold of Kosundo and exact their soulless revenge.

Wow, what can I say? I thought the first book of the series was great, but Paths is better. It has more intrigue, action and intensity than Beacon without sacrificing anything in the process.
There are some parts that are so intense that I felt real emotion as I read them. Yet, these parts were done with great taste. Somehow, Walter Mark manages to ramp up the intensity without resorting to crudeness or explicitness. This is a book that I wouldn't mind letting my 14 year old daughter read, even though it got my heart pumping.
I should mention that this book is not widely available yet. I got an electronic copy by winning a contest on the sixth world of men site. When it does come out, I plan to buy a copy. This is a book that deserves to be on more than just a virtual shelf.

The intensity of this book is evident especially in the scenes with Laysa and Degmer. The manipulation of those two characters added a lot of intrigue to the plot.
There was a real sense of mystery and revelation in the Temeos and Abin storylines. The revelations in the beginning of the book set up the plot for this part of the story well.
Excellent book. I can't wait for the next book in this series.

although i don't usually read this type of book i was grabbed and pulled into the story from the first page. i found myself intrigued and fasinated by the story and the characters were a joy to get to know and watch them grow into their own. i also found myself rooting for the hero(s) and heroine(s) and booing the villian(s) and then on the next page laughing out loud at something else. it was a truley wonderful book.

it was very easy to become emotionally connected to each of the characters and to empathize with them and what they were going through.i was a joy to watch them grow and change and become the people they wanted to be. if you love a book that makes you feel laughter, sadness, angry and all of the other emtions it is that we feel as people then this is the book for you.

this is also not one of those books that you can figure out who did what in the first few chapters but it kept me guessing right up to the last page. i find myself hoping to hear more about these characters in a future book as well as some of the secondary characters that need their story told.

if this is the type of book that you enjoy you shouldn't miss this one and if you are not into this kind of book you should give this one a try and perhaps it will change your mind the same as it did mine.

This book was awesome. A lot of intense action yet it wasn't action just for the sake of action. It had a definite purpose. The author beguiles you with a journal-like narration that this events actually occurred.

The book answers some questions that were left open at the end of A Beacon of Hope, gives hints at other answers and leaves selection questions unanswered.

This book has passion, but with a definite purpose. Walter E Mark skillfully manipulates the story to drive home a good point about the true value of faith and hope. Yet, this is done within the confines of the plot so seamlessly that it seems absolutely natural. This is the best piece of writing that I have seen in quite some time. Bravo!
