Bluff Bears #1

Rogue Bear

Rate this book
Calan Winters wants a woman. A mate.

He's tired of skinny, platinum blonde girls with fake tits. He's looking for someone with shape, who is all curves and all woman. He intends to make her all his.

In search of his mate, he's returning to to Bear Bluffs after being gone for fifteen years. He's back to reclaim his old family land, find his mate, and to settle down and have some cubs with her. He swears up and down his wandering, rogue-like past is behind him. But can he convince himself that it's the truth?

Harley Hammond is new to town. She fled an untenable situation several years earlier, coming to find the only family she has left; her dad. She's just started to feel comfortable in town, when in walks a mysterious bear shifter, who has an instantaneous effect upon her. In fear of betrayal and more pain than her still-broken heart can handle, Harley does her best to keep him at a distance.

As it turns out though, Calan may be the only one who can save her from trouble of her own making. Will his efforts be enough to convince her that he's for real?

This is a 25,000 word STANDALONE novella with NO CLIFFHANGER.

Amelia Jade loves to write the stories of tall, growly shifter men and the women who come to love them. Living out in the back-country near the mountains, she keeps her own alpha male close by, to keep the bears away and keep her warm. In her down time (which is rare), she loves to read science-fiction with a dash of fantasy. You can often find her curled up in front of the real wood-burning fireplace, her nose firmly buried in a book or her favorite ereader. The cold can't bother her there!

Too many inconsistencies

I wasn't a fan of this book at all. There were too many inconsistencies. One minute Calan doesn't know that the bartender is a shifter, the next, he calls him a bear.

Harley acted like a complete B the whole time. She treated Calan like crap. I can understand her being jaded after her last relationship, but she was just plain rude.

The dialogue also didn't ring true and I didn't feel they had any chemistry at all, but that could be the fact that I wasn't fond of Harley.

The only redeeming part of the book was that Calan genuinely seemed like a nice guy who'd just had a rough life.

I could hardly get through half of the book. It was terrible. The errors are bad. I didn't like Harley...she is so unlikable. She goes on and on how she can take care of herself. However, put to the test she fails. I stopped at that point. Its hard to hate a character...don't hate her but just disliked her a lot. Not a huge fan of Terra Wolf but decided to give her a chance again but I was disappointed. Seems to me she doesn't listen to her readers or doesn't care because her writing just hasn't improved and by now it should have. Seems a few like this story and that just saddens me that they think this is good or excellent. This is a 3 star at best. I don't know what it is...her editor if she has one or her publisher allowing her to put this out with all these errors. I know a lot of authors try and self publish and thats all well and good but if your doing that at LEAST have a good editor.

If you want a good story, with a yummy shifter bear, and some sex sprinkled on top, then here you go. I can't wait to read more about shifter bears like Calan and Harley. The book is a stand alone story, no cliffhanger, but the author does have more bear shifter stories to read if you like this one.
It's also a quick read, but that doesn't make it any less enjoyable.
Side note, from what I read in other reviews, I just want to make clear that as far as I'm aware of, there are no inconsistency. Everything appears consistent if you pay attention, perhaps a few things aren't overly explained at times until later, if at all, but when something is important to the story it is made clear. I'm usually quick to pick up on mistakes and aside from the occasional typo, which I haven't read a book without a few these days, the writing is fine. But don't take my word on it, read it, I dare you, lol.

This had the potential to be a really good book, but they're were places in the book that were inconsistent. Like one paragraph they're chosing sheets for there bed and being playful about wanting to get back home. Then the next paragraph it jumps to then having dinner, like I feel like they're are gaps in the book. Someone didn't edit this well. The story line is good though just the book has some small issues.

Cutesy novella. Just lacked a little something, the characters were a bit flat, so I just never really cared what happened.

Calan Winters has been running for 15 long lonely years. After the death of his parents he had to get away. Now 15 years later he finds himself headed back to Bear Bluffs to settle down and find a mate. Sure he could have any woman he wanted. He was sick of all the one night stands with the barbie type of woman. No, in a mate he wanted a real woman. One with curves and one that had some meat that he could hold on to. He did not believe in Fated Mates. They were something you found in fairy tales, at least that was what he thought until he meet Harley.

Harley Hammond had not lived in Bear Bluffs for very long. She had suffered so much pain and decided to go to Bear Bluffs to find her dad and settle down. For 2 years she stayed away from men. She did not want to be abandoned or hurt any more. I actually loved the character Harley. She was not ashamed of being a beautiful plus size woman. She had so much inward strength that I do not know if she was aware how much she truly had. The last thing Harley thought she would find is her mate.

The thing about Harley and Calan is they had more in common then they realized and I am not referring to them both being bear shifters. They both have been seriously hurt and needed healing and not knowing what they needed was each other. Calan thought he had to be strong for Harley. That he need to be her rock so that he could help her heal. What he didn’t know is he would find healing in her love and strength.

There is a part in the story where Harley’s life is in danger. It is amazing how when your back is against the wall things that matter come into focus. You can see thing so clearly. This is an amazing story and very heart warming. If you love shifter books you will love this one. You can not help but fall in love with Harley and Calan. What an amazing journey it was.

Calan & Harley

Calan Winters is returning to his home town, looking to settle down and hopes to find a mate.

He is knocked sideways the second he sees her, at last a real Woman with curves ! instead of these slim blonde fake models he's been surrounded by. He tries to coax her name out of her with no luck, he's about to give up as the barman Calls across to Harley.

Calan steps in as a drunk makes advances towards Harley.

Harley however is a feisty strong minded woman. She's not used to anyone trying to protect her and almost take offence when a stranger steps in to help her at the local bar.She storms off to work leaving the handsome stranger flummoxed.

Don't want to spoil the story for anyone :)This is only the first meeting in the story there's plenty more to come.

I received this ARC in exchange foe an honest review

I was given a complimentary copy for an honest review by author Terra Wolf.

Calan Winters left his home in Bear Bluffs when his parents were killed 15 years ago and has just been wondering from place to place. Now he feels like it is time to settle down with a mate and start a family. Harley came back to Bear Bluffs 3 years ago after a disastrous relationship to start over and the last thing she wanted was her mate, Calan.

I loved the character of Harley because she is strong and feisty but loving and is her own woman. The characters and their interaction was great.

This is for mature paranormal romance book lovers.

Rogue Bear (Bluff Bears, #1)
by Amelia Jade

Calan Winters has returned to Bear Bluffs after being gone for fifteen years. He is ready to reclaim his parents land, find a mate and settle down. At least he thinks he is. After meeting Harley in The Bluff Quencher, he is even more sure that is what he wants to do, but Harley doesn't seem to want to have anything to do with him.

Harley isn't the type of woman that men want to settle down with. Her last boyfriend proved that. So when a new guy in town shows lots of interest in her, she just can't believe that he would stick around. She once again sends herself into her own self-destruction and gets careless.

This story had potential but the main thing that let it down was the fact that Harley is a bear shifter and was portrayed as a tough independent woman that the male shifters step back from when she's in a bad mood, so why was 1 smack from a human male enough to knock her out ? She went from being strong and aggressive to weak and defenceless ? It doesn't make sense, a human would be no threat to her.
The author would have been better off making her a human female, the storyline would have made more sense then. Just didn't work for me I'm afraid.

Calan Winters has been gone from his home town for about 15 years. He has now returned to stay and find a mate so he can settle down. He sets out to see an old acquaintance, a man who was like a mentor to him...the Chief of the Fire Department.

Ms. Harley Harmmond has lived in the town for a while and has sworn off a serious relationship after her past and painful experiences. She works for the local Fire Department.

When these two meet fireworks go off and the pages begin to ignite.

I really liked this one. I look forward to reading the next books in this series.

Rogue Bear

This book was an okay read. It was not a page Turner but held my interest.

Only problem I had was (SPOILER) when the h was attached and kidnapped. She is a bear shifter. Why did she not shift?????? The bad human guys did not do anything to prevent her from shifting. Her bear probably could have handled 3 humans or at least done some damage. Did not make sense and the author did not explain.

First book in a series.

Calan and Harley meet in a bar, in a sleepy little town filled with shifters. They're bears. She's a fire-fighter...and hot. When Calan gets a job at the firehouse, too, Harley knows she's in trouble. Not talking about the trouble with Dusty and his friends, they're just plain bad news. But trouble of the romantic variety. Well, what kind of cozy paranormal romance would it be without it??

Sensational

I absolutely loved Calan and Harley's story. The chemistry between the two was instantaneous, despite her determination to ignore it. The story flowed smoothly and was easy to read. The characters were well written, making it easy to visualize their interactions and to associate with them. I am looking forward to reading more by this author.

I just could not feel anything for either of the main characters. They both seemed immature and the story just did not do it for me.
I loved the storyline but to me it needed stronger, more believable characters to make it seem real and I found the writing a bit stilted which made the story seem jumpy.
A real pity as it had all the makings of being a great book.

I received an ARC of this book for an honest review

Oh wow what an amazing story, I absolutely loved it, I have not read very many shifter books lately where 2 shifters find each other (fated mates) most lately have been human/shifter. I loved this what a great start to a series, yet can be totally read as a standalone!!!

An ARC was given to me for an honest review. Alan's back home after fifteen years of wandering. Harley is working as a fire fighter with her father. When he meets her, he knows she is his mate. She cops attitude because he makes her feel things she trust herself to believe in. Enjoy I did.

Pretty good read.

I liked the development of both Harley (love the name) and Calan. I only put this as a four star because I felt like I still had a few questions. Mainly where the animosity between Harley and Dusty came from.

Coincidence?

I still haven't figured out why the father told his daughter to go to Bear Bluff. It can't be a coincidence that she would find her mate there.
