Paging Dr. Pierce…

If you’d have told me my arrogant, man-whoring stepbrother would grow up to become a doctor, I’d have never believed you. That is, until you mention he specializes in caring for the opposite gender. Then it makes perfect sense. He always did have a way with the finer sex.

Wielding a Prince Albert piercing (don’t ask me how I know) and a whole mess of muscles and tattoos beneath his white lab coat, his power lies in his ability to incinerate my panties with a single smile, the way he knows exactly what to say to melt my resolve like rain on chalk, and his decision to tell me, after a decade of estrangement, that I’m the only girl he’s ever truly loved.

But we can’t be together, and there are a million reasons why. He’s obnoxious and insufferable. He’s my stepbrother – the son of the woman my asshole father cheated on my mother with. Sutton Pierce is off-limits. Bad news. Wrong in every sense of the word.

But it’s going to be my heart that needs convincing…because I think I might still love him too.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: This is a standalone romance novel with an alpha male, a HEA, and adult content.

Lauryn Hudson isn’t expecting to run into her former teenage flame and current stepbrother, Sutton Pierce, at her yearly gynecologic appointment. But the pierced and tattooed Sut that she once loved is now Dr. Pierce. The awkward moments don’t end there. Lauryn and Sutton share a complicated past.

“‘Besides, first you were like my bratty kid sister, and then you were my friend, and then you got boobs and got all hormonal, and then I thought you were hot so I f*cked you like crazy, and then we became stepsiblings, and now I’m going to f*ck you, like I did back in high school, only now we’re adults.’”

Told via Lauryn and Sutton’s alternating first person POV, Lauryn must work through not only her issues with their parents’ scandalous history but what she wants for herself in the present.

The character development could be a little fuller. I really liked what is depicted of Sutton and considering he was only a teen when their relationship was blown apart the first time, I had a hard time relating to Lauryn’s decade or longer grudge. He seemed like a great guy that truly cared about her for the most part.

The story had potential and I wished it would have been fleshed out more. There’s a few flashback to their past as teenagers but to understand the history and depth of their relationship, I needed more. Less tell, more show. Plus Loren is in a relationship with someone else through the first part of the story and that didn’t help the budding second chance romance with Sutton. More time spent developing them as a couple, more steam, and better organized flashbacks would have brought the rating up higher.

This is the author’s first novel and a promising debut. I purchased it as part of a bonus with the second release, Wanted https://www.goodreads.com/review/show.... Pierced is still a decent read, but Wanted definitely improves upon places where Pierced fell short.

My opinion. This story may work for you, but it did not work for me.

My notes and why it did not work for me.
I could not connect. I wish the author would have explained immediately why the heroine did not like her step-brother. Something about something vague that he did to her. At one point I was coming to my own conclusions...she was a bit annoying. (I hate when authors drag a point!!!) The heroine may be pretty to look at, but there was not much else. There was a flashback but it felt awkward. Some parts were dragging. The dual POVs did not work for me. The way the heroine talked about the hero's piercing and enormous cock was very immature, but my question is did she not have an "almost" fiance who was wonderful waiting for her at home, but thinking of someone's dick?!?!?! Lauryn was not a heroine I was able to connect with.

Not piercing enough...

Nice storyline but lacked intensity. I liked that the story's conflict isn't even about being stepbrother/stepsister. It picks up after long years of separation way into their adulthood. Lauryn's relationship with James was admittedly dull, as was their breakup. Her interactions with Sutton had more sparks but not to the extent I would expect to see in a romance, especially between the two lead characters. Sutton's and Lauryn's relationship struggles were described too casually and matter of fact. There was no real build up or rush of emotions. Even the sex scenes were lackluster. Very little for this reader to lock on to. There were unexplored relationships; between Lauryn and her father for instance that could have played into pulling the tempo of the book out of a bland state. This author's writing style did peak my interest enough to look into her next book.

This was a nice easy read for a change. Not too loaded with drama drama drama... sometimes you just need something that just flows and doesnt need to much feels and brain power.

I loved this book. I didn't know exactly to expect but this has quickly become one of my favorite novellas. The only thing I didn't like about this book is that there wasn't more of it. Now on to the review.

Sutton is the best book boyfriend. He was and has been in love with Lauryn since they were kids and until the one unforgivable thing his mom and her dad did, I was sure they would've made everything work out for the better. Sutton is the first alpha male that I've read about who's been an OB-GYN. That was really refreshing and I enjoyed the hospital scenes as they flowed naturally within the story.

I could tell from the beginning that Lauryn wasn't really passionate about anything (except for Sutton). She let her circumstances that were forced upon her dictate her life. She was too closed off to really understand her feelings and I'm glad she finally worked through them. Even if it did have Sutton threatening to "relentlessly pursue" her.

I wish there was another book or that this was a series because I really can't get enough of this couple. This is the first book I've read from Maya Hawk and I'm really impressed. I can't wait to read another book of hers.

Loved this book! But what I really loved is how much different it is from many of the other stepbrother books out there. I liked that they were adults. This is gives the book a different vibe from the books where they are in their early twenties. Another is the hero is not a manwhore. I mean he spends most of the book turning down other women. I mean he was hot too. Who wouldn't want a tatted up OB/GYN. He was lucky women didnt get pregnant just from their annual appointment. I also loved the heroine was multicultural. You dont see that too much in books. But what I really loved was the realtionship between Lauryn and Sutton. You could tell he still loved her after all these years and she had feelings for him but due to her not single status and loyalty to her mother she tried to repress them. See Lauryn and Sutton's moms were best friends and Lauryn's dad left her mom for Sutton's mom. Is Lauryn willing to give Sutton a chance to prove he can be the man she needs or will she stay with her safe boyfriend James? You must read to find out but you will like this story.

So - if you enjoy Stepbrother romances, like I do, then you will enjoy this one. And if my stepbrother looked like Dr Pierce - I'd be all over that too! Just saying!

"His piercing. Oh, God. Completely forgot about that. His enormous cock. And all those tattoos"

In most books the tattooed Males are totally Alpha Assholes but Sutton was opposite! I was reading and expecting him to turn into the stepbrother assholes we normally read about and Nope! He truly was the nice guy.

This was a sweet romance. Sut loves Lauryn.... And Lauryn loves Sutton. But because of something that went down years ago involving their families..... Lauryn ran. So now, ten years later, they are "reunited" and thus begins their story.

No real Drama - Hot Sex - all in all a quick read. Dual POV's. For the author's Debut - it was good.

"Who'd have thought my tatted up, muscled, cock-pierced stepbrother would grow up to deliver babies? I both love and hate that fact more than I'll ever admit to anyone out loud."

Great Read. Not your typical Step brother story.

Lauryn and Suttton have known each other since little kids. With their Mothers being best friend how could they not. Going from childhood friend to teenage best friend to being boyfriend and girlfriend as teens. Life was perfect for to Teenage lovers, till the unthinkable, they parents hook up and everything changed and Lauryn blames Sutton for not stopping what happens. Many years pass and they are thrown into each other's lives due to they career's. All the hurt she pushed aside and her love for Sutton come front and center but can she work throughout all the emotions she is going through are will see run for them when Sutton sets out to get back the one person he has ever wanted, Lauryn. The story isn't like any of the other stepmother books I have read. This one is so worthy to be read.

3.5 stars. Overall, quite enjoyed this story.

Former childhood friends and lovers, Sutton and Lauryn, meet again after ten years of not seeing one another. Sutton is determined not to let Lauryn slip through his fingers again. They have an intertwined history, not least the fact that they are now step-siblings.

The story was quite fast paced, with flashbacks to past events, but it is clear that Sutton wants and loves Lauryn. Lauryn can’t get over what she sees as a past betrayal, even though her true feelings for Sutton are surging to the surface again. She’s currently in a safe relationship….but does she really know her almost-fiancé?

A sexy debut portraying longing, frustration, passion, true love and second chances.

I really liked it. It's very different from all the other step brother books out there. Sutton and Lauryn were friends, practically grew up together. All because her dad and his mom were cheating together, this is what made her leave him for ten years.

Sutton never forgot about her and when fate came banging on his door he took full advantage of it. How can you not fall for a tatted up doc that delivers babies and truly loves his job. Never mind the fact that he has Prince Albert, that in itself is an extra.

If you enjoy the stepbrother books that are out there and want something different this is the book for you.

This was a short fluffy stepbrother romance. to be honest I was expecting a little more heat, and a little more of the in your face, tattoo loving badass stepbrother antics. Instead Sutton came across as a smooth talking, loving and kind obgyn who's been head over heels in love with his stepsister since highschool. Don't get me wrong, this was a sweet romance with some unfaithful shenanigans, mixed with a little bit of heat thrown in for good measure. Its definitely a good enough read to throw in, between your all consuming and badass panty melting books. Altogether not a horrible read if you're looking for a love of your life highschool sweetheart stepbrother romance.

This was such a cute story ..
Really easy to read and an awesome story line to follow ..
I kind of had my doubts when I sampled this book, but I definitely don't regret actually purchasing it ..
I loved Sutton and Lauryn's relationship throughout the book .. how it started as a best friendship turned loved turned hate then back to love ..
I kind of wanted a little more with the parents, like a final show down between them just to clear the air and have karma make her rounds lol
Overall, really good read and I will definitely recommend it .. I'm excited to read STEPFIGHTER!!!!

This review is from: PIERCED - A Stepbrother Romance (Kindle Edition)

After recently reading a very dark & brutal book, I needed a book that was easy, light, sweet, schmexy, a bit cheesy and fluffy <~ I mean all of those things in a very good way!! I got exactly those things with this book. It was a quick & light read and helped me to get my brain waves back in to an un-psychopathic way! I enjoyed this book. It was a good stepbrother read with ZERO ick factor!!

Very good KU find!

So much potential to be a great story but it just fell flat for me. I didn't feel like there was any chemistry between the characters and I never got a real sense of their feelings for one another. To me it felt like the author was telling us about their deep feelings for one another rather than showing us. Just wasn't all that much of a fan of this one and by the end I found myself skimming just to get through. =(

Hot baby doc with tats? Yes, please.

I really enjoyed this book but it needs a better editor. There were times I was sure the author didn't mean to use a particular word. It would take me out of the story and make me reread what I had just read to make sure I got it. I loved Sutton! And lauryn was great too. It's always nice when you can get behind and root for the main characters. Oh, I need to find me a Sutton!!

What a great find!

This book turned out to be so cute! And sexy, and steamy and just a great read. I really liked Sutton and Lauyrens story. The history they shared together, they were so much more than step-siblings (and in a delightful, non creepy, non awkward way.). I cried with Lauyren, I felt Suttons frustration and love. Great story!

I don't know why they call these step brother romance...the book was good on its own merit without the brother thing and it made it kind of weird. Anyway, fun read, good characters.....would have enjoyed it more to actually read about James failure in more detail. Looking forward to reading more of Maya Hawk's books.

I really liked this

Not just all sex. Although hey, it is hot!
Lauren and Sutton are victims of their parents lives. And Lauren's so called boyfriend just adds to her trust issues.
Thankfully Sutton is one of the good guys and knows what Lauren needs and she finally grows up and sees that Sutton is the one.
I will look for more from this Author.

I somehow cannot decide whether to give this story a 3 or 4 rating. The story itself was GREAT, I just felt that there was something missing. It might be in the romance scenes. There was build up, a middle, then poof everything was over. Again I really loved the plot/story, I'm a sucker for a great second chance romance. This was wonderful!

Thanks

Easy, enjoyable read. Short and could have been developed more. The hero became a OB GYN doctor who really loved his work. As far as women he had light affairs but for ten years he waited to get back with the girl he loved who turned out to be his step sister that summer when they fell in love as teenagers. The whole divorce thing with their parents caused the split.

Although I only gave it 3 stars, I would like to say that I will definitely be on the lookout for this author.
Really liked the writing style but the story itself was very predictable, short and not enough character development. Other than that, it was just a very quick read

Not a bad debut for this author. Good Story. Well edited, and story flowed. Wish it was a bit longer

the only thing, and its happening in a few books, why does the partner need to cheat? instead of just a normal break up? i hope there could be more creativity to it...

Great read. Not your typical or the normal step brother romance that I have read lately. This one has an extremely good story line. The characters are amazing and it keeps your attention. A must read.

Completely..utterly blown away!

Well well...a hot tattooed OB-GYN, sign me up! This book was a good fast read for me. I loved the dynamic of best friends to lovers to a hateful separation to friends again then ultimately lovers again. Destiny always wins when it comes to love..

Sutton satisfies

Not bad for a debut. A quick and easy read. Liked the voice of male lead Sutton. Would've like more from him. Female has been wanting more from her. Complete story no to be continued.

Unexpectedly Great

A lot of these type of stories are being published now, and so are good, some unbelievable, but this has a great love story and could be believable.
Can't wait to see what else this author has to offer!
