I read this book along with the Adobe Premiere Pro Help Doc (link below) to study for the Adobe Premiere Pro Certified Expert Exam. This book is a very extensive look at Premiere Pro but to get the most out of the book do the exercise which are very well done.

If you are using this book, or any of Adobe Classroom In A Book, series to study for a Certified Expert exam they are a great starting point. However, you really need practical experience using the software. The books and the help docs will give you the jargon and the real intricate points of the software but you need to balance that with working knowledge of the software. Having used and taught Premiere Pro for over 6 years I figured I was ready for the exam.

I am going to start studying for my Abode Photoshop Certified Expert Exam using the same formula, having passed the Premiere Pro Exam!!

This is a good book for getting to know Premiere Pro (at least for someone like me who is just beginning to use the product), but there are a few things about it that are frustrating.

Most of the problems have to do with the practice materials on the included DVD. For many of the lessons, you will be having to locate files that aren't where the project files think they are. Why this DVD was put out with pointers to a G: drive or some obscure network location is beyond me. The last task in lesson 15 will not work because the clips it uses are not formatted consistently, and the effect in that task requires that they be.

In general, I like the Classroom in a book series, but I wish the quality was a little more consistent.
