I really liked the book, and recommended to all those who wanted to study the Islamic history, because it was a good reference book ,and written in the form of documentary. The beauty of the author, M. Hussain Hakel, was that he quoted all the views of the famous historian, who wrote Islamic history, like Ibn Qaseer, Ibn Khaldoon, butler etc, on controversial part of Islamic history, then he explained each with logic, and then gave his own best fitting point of view.
I specially appreciated the author, who did such a hard work, to compile a book which contained almost every aspect of the life of Second Caliph of Muslims, Hazrat Umer Farooq (R.A). This book contained a short introduction of Umer’s(R.A) life before Islam, during the life of Prophet(P.B.U.H) and Hazrat Abu Bakar(R.A). The expansion of Muslim Rule was explained with the facts, and minute details of every battle, fought by Muslims.
Along with all the glamour, this book also had some short comings which prevented me to gave 5 stars. At some places author explained the details which, I personally thought, was irrelevant and unnecessary. I also had problem with the name of the book, as it suggested the whole content would be on the life of Hazrat Umer Farooq(R.A), but about 65 percent of content was on the battles fought under the Caliphate of Umer(R.A)
