Shadow
★ The Final Heart-Pounding Chapter of the Heroes of Renegade Series ★
The most dangerous man isn't the one who lies to you. It's the one who makes you want to believe him anyway.
SHE PROTECTS EVERYONE. EXCEPT HERSELF.
Daphne Cross hasn't lost a witness in thirty-two protection details. She's fierce, independent, and operates by one trust no one. It's kept her alive. It's kept her alone. And it's kept her heart safely locked away since her father died a hero and she swore never to let anyone close enough to destroy her again.
But this job requires the one thing she's spent fifteen years avoiding—returning to the hometown where she buried her father and left her heart behind.
HIS JOB IS LYING. TO EVERYONE.
FBI Agent Asher Morrison has spent eighteen months undercover as a corrupt agent, feeding intelligence to the Shadow Syndicate while secretly working to destroy them. He's watched witnesses die. Betrayed colleagues who trusted him. Become the monster he's hunting.
All to bring down the criminal empire that murdered his sister seven years ago.
But when a coordinated hit exposes a mole inside the FBI and puts two more witnesses in the crosshairs, Asher's carefully constructed lies begin to crumble. Someone inside is selling witness locations. And his new partner—a woman with trust issues and a perfect record—suspects him.
HOW DO YOU TRUST SOMEONE WHOSE JOB IS DECEPTION?
To protect their witnesses, Daphne and Asher must pose as husband and wife—hiding in plain sight while the Syndicate hunts them and their own agency might be compromised.
Daphne knows better than to trust a professional liar. But Asher sees past her walls. He makes her laugh. He makes her feel. And that's more dangerous than any bullet.
Because the woman who protects everyone has no defense against falling for a man who might be exactly what he seems—or the greatest lie she's ever believed.
Good men are worth fighting for. But is he good? Or is she just another mark who wants to believe?
SHADOW is Book 7 in the Brave series—a heart-pounding Christian romantic suspense featuring an undercover hero who's forgotten how to tell the truth, a fiercely guarded heroine learning that some risks are worth taking, fake marriage with very real sparks, and a faith journey from darkness into light. Can be read as a standalone.

I've been writing as long as I can remember - I won my first book writing contest in first grade! Over the years, writing has become, for me, a way to praise God and see Him at work in my life.
Although I have a degree in Mass Communications from the University of MN, my real writing experience started when I penned the The Warren Report - a bi-monthly newsletter that detailed our ministry highlights.
Living in Russia meant I never lacked for great material - and those experiences naturally spilled out first into devotionals and magazine articles and finally into my first published story, "Measure of a Man," in the Tyndale/HeartQuest, Chance Encounters of the Heart anthology.
Susan and husbandI grew up in Wayzata, a suburb of Minneapolis, and became an avid camper from an early age. My favorite fir-lined spot is the north shore of Minnesota - it's where I met my husband, honeymooned and dreamed of living. The north woods easily became the foundation for my first series, The Deep Haven series.based on a little tourist town along the shores of Lake Superior. I have to admit - I'm terribly jealous of Mona, the heroine of my first full-length book, Happily Ever After, a Christy Award Finalist published in 2004 with Tyndale/Heartquest.
Our family moved home from the mission field in June 2004 -- and now we live in the beautiful town I'd always dreamed of! God has amazed me anew with His provision, and blessings -- and allowed me a season when I can write full time for Him.

The final book in the Renegade series is a stunning conclusion that kept me on the edge of my seat as protection agent Daphne joins forces with FBI agent Asher to protect witnesses in the case against the Shadow Syndicate. The story is fast-paced, expertly crafted with surprising twists and red herrings, and completely engrossing. When Daphne agrees to work with Asher, she stepped out of her comfort zone and the story’s breath-stopping suspense begins. This is an addictive romantic suspense with elements of a thriller that is infused with spiritual truth as the two protagonists search for a resolution from a past that has held them back from trusting anyone. I was immersed in the drama of the story and captivated by the budding and unexpected romance. This is a clever page turner that captivated me from beginning to end. I was totally satisfied with the conclusion of the story and especially all of the surprising revelations that compelled me to keep reading and guessing what would happen next. This intriguing book can be read and enjoyed as a standalone, but I strongly recommend reading the series in order so you can experience all of the Renegade heroes and their quest to take down the evil masters of the syndicate that has stolen the peace from their small town.

We have reached the end of this no spice Christian romantic suspense series journey. The finale at last. Can the Shadow Syndicate be taken down for good and all of the tendrils of the web fleshed out? I have to say, I majorly patted myself on the back with this one and suspicions I’ve had. This fake marriage relationship with an undercover FBI agent and a former US Marshall while protecting witnesses had forced proximity, betrayal, high stakes, sweet moments, faith, and so much more. I really enjoyed this romance and adventure and I’m sad to see this series end. The only question I have is: what does sunshine taste like?? The romance is just kisses, intimacy level 2.
Content Warnings: Past Loss of Parent, Cancer, Past Loss of Sister, Murder, Criminal Enterprise, Attempted Murder, Injuries

I cannot believe we are at the end of a series, it’s been a wild and fun ride with this series. Getting to know everyone from Rowan, Sierra and all the others from Renegade has been a blast. See what I did there 😆 (a hint what this book series entails). Finally, we get to know who’s behind the Shadow Syndicate from the beginning. I had my questions and guesses from the beginning, to see them get answered and even while knowing who some of the players were involved I still was shocked at others. Susan May Warren & Lisa Phillips did a wonderful job putting the team together for the pieces to fall into place. Every single character we’ve met throughout each book has played an integral role in bringing the series to a close. Although I’m sad to see this particular series ending I am very pleased with how well the story woven together. Now for Shadow’s individual MCs - Asher & Daphne, they are both great characters who have their own unique stories and struggles as to why they are the way they are. Daphne lost her father, who was a police officer in Renegade, when she was 16 years old. Asher lost his sister to gang violence when she was just a teenager too. Those losses shaped their lives and career paths. I loved seeing their character developments and how they grew together. The chemistry between Asher and Daphne was incredible and perfect.
I could literally talk all about this wonderful series all day and never get over it. But for now, I’ll spare you ;).
Thank you to Sunrise Publishing for my copy of this book plus all others in the series. I was not required to leave a review but I felt like it was absolutely essential to share with y’all.

“Asher Morrison was tired of being a traitor.
Never mind that his heart bled red, white, and blue, that he'd signed up for this ever-so-fun adventure into darkness.”
It’s all been leading to this, we finally have the last book in the Heroes of Renegade series. Shadow by Susan May Warren was a great ending to this series.
Daphne Cross hasn’t lost a witness since she started her protection detail career. But when a friend calls in a favor Daphne is going back to the last place she wants, Renegade. She’s going to be protecting some of the key witnesses to taking down the Shadow Syndicate. Unfortunately, she will need to rely on others to help her.
Asher Morrison is undercover for the FBI to take down the Shadow Syndicate. He just wants the job to be over. Undercover has taken a lot out him. Now he is having to work with Daphne and keep his cover. The more time he spends with Daphne, the more he wants to come clean.
If they want to bring down the Shadow Syndicate and have a chance at a relationship. Asher and Daphne are going to have to trust each other.
I loved that we finally got to see how everything worked out. It’s been a long journey since the start of the series but I loved how each book in the series have built off each other. Shadow was a quick, suspenseful book. I enjoyed trying to figure out who was in charge of the Shadow Syndicate before it was revealed.
It was nice to see the different characters from previous books pop up in this book. You don’t want to miss out on the final book in the Heroes of Renegade series.
These thoughts and opinions are my own. Thanks Sunrise Publishing for the ARC.

HATS OFF TO A REMARKABLE AUTHOR WHO JUST PULLED OFF NOT ONE, BUT TWO TWISTS I DIDN'T SEE COMING!!!!
==============================================
“Do the right thing even when it’s hard.”
This author continues to produce heartfelt stories with characters who portray authentic struggles. She scaffolds her narrative to reveal truths about human nature and to show how we can strengthen our relationship with God. Warren ALWAYS makes space for hope and faith.
Susan May Warren’s theme of trust is the soul of her story. Her characters don’t just walk onto the page with a ‘please trust me vibe’; they earn trust and offer trust selectively because they’ve been forged in the fire and know what they’re worth and what’s worth their time and effort. Daphne protects herself by building walls and running from vulnerability and trust. She learns to believe in God’s presence, even when everything falls apart. Daphne has a more difficult journey towards trust because the one her heart is leading her to lies for a living. I can’t imagine how big a step that must have been for her! It’s difficult enough on an even playing field.
Piggybacking on trust is Warren’s focus on failures. She reminds readers that God’s love is bigger than our failures and that He doesn’t qualify His salvation. I love the fatherly advice FBI Agent Asher Morrison receives: “You can’t out-sin God’s love, son.” Asher has had to make some difficult choices in the name of protection. I felt his anguish and hoped that Daphne knew his heart.
I loved that the characters were watching the Minnesota Blue Ox hockey game. 😁
There’s so much to love in this twisty, unpredictable, romantic suspense story. You need it on your reading list ASAP.
I was gifted this copy and was under no obligation to provide a review.

Ooh! Shadow is the fascinating conclusion to Susan May Warren's Heroes of Renegade series, but I'm not ready for it to end! This story wraps up the over-arcing plot in a most exciting way.
I think Warren saved the best set of characters for last. Asher and Daphne are deep, loyal, hurting, and smart: my very favorite kind. They protect each other and their wards but also have a have so many mysteries between them that the tension, between them personally, adds a complex layer to the overall suspense of the story.
That tension feeds into the lessons of the story perfectly. I love how Warren adds layers and symbolism to add complexity to Shadow. It's the perfect mash-up, and I'm here for all of it.
I'm here for the next set of books set in Renegade, too, because apparently the series isn't over after all: there's more coming. That's absolutely perfect, because this is one of my favorite Warren series, and that's saying something. With high stakes, deep mysteries, heroic and down-to-earth characters, and strong lessons, though, what could be better? So grab your copy of Shadow now because you won't want to wait an extra minute for this action!

““Faith. Trust. Just believing that God is who He says He is. That He loves you.””
Though each book in this series brought each one thrill, adventure and secrets, Susan May Warren just has a way to bring the adventure and danger on a level that grabs you in and keeps you there. And I also feel like the scripture and messages in the story is emphasized with the physical challenges the characters face.
Trust and forgiveness was a big message in this story.
“Faith is believing that even when you can’t see Him or feel Him or understand Him, He’s there. He’s with you. He won’t betray you.”
There was a character I suspected from the beginning of the series, but as there were more players introduced and caught, I was also distracted with the other possibilities. But I had a “I knew it” moment when the revealing scene was happening.
I enjoyed this series and sad to say goodbye to all of these characters.

Action packed, intense, exciting, and so much more!
I loved this story.
I enjoyed getting to know Daphne and Asher, and reading their story.
They are both the best at what they do. But can they join forces and be better helping each other?
This book can probably be read as a stand alone, but it definitely makes more sense when you've read the earlier ones in this series. This is a continuation of taking down the syndicate in the town of Renegade.
This story is full of twists and turns, and just when you think you know which direction things are headed, the story takes a sharp turn for the unexpected.
I recommend this to anyone who is a fan of mystery and suspense, and especially for SMW fans.

Shadow by Susan May Warren had me guessing to the end of the story, which is really hard for a suspense writer to do for me. I pretty much figure out the bad guy before the ending in every suspense novel. However, the plot was nicely woven together with plenty of twists and turns that made me keep reading. As for the romance, it flirted with the edge of the story until almost the climactic moment, then it burst open. As for the spiritual element, it was perfect for me. I liked how Warren took a third-party player who walked into the heroine and the hero’s lives and gave them some good Godly advice that they both needed to hear to get their lives back on track. Overall, Shadow by Susan May Warren was a action filled story with elements of truth. I really enjoyed this story.

What a great conclusion to this series! Full of twists and turns, there was never a dull moment. The suspense started early and hardly ever let up.
Asher and Daphne were great characters. Daphne was really good at her job. She had a serious, no-nonsense attitude, but I liked seeing her open up. I thought her and Asher made a great pair. Asher had been undercover with the Shadow Syndicate for a while. But you could tell he was a genuinely good guy. Hardworking and diligent. He was put into some tough spots, but I thought he handled things pretty well considering.
Things with the Shadow Syndicate come to a head in this book, and what a finale! I thought I had things figured out, but, man, was I surprised! There were some big shockers that I never saw coming. I really enjoyed this series and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys faith-filled romantic suspense.
I received a copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.

This was a SPECTACULAR ending to a GREAT series!
Knowing that Asher has been undercover for the entire series makes me want to go back and read the whole series over again looking for him. Also, finding out who the head of the Shadow Syndicate was?! I did not see it coming at ALL!
And then there's Asher and Daphne. I loved everything about these two and their fake marriage. The safety they both felt, the pet names, the morning routine, everything. It was the perfect way to make two lonely people see that they didn't have to spend the rest of their lives that way.
Both of these characters were so strong and carrying more than anyone should have to. Their journey was written so beautifully and, as always, the faith side that was weaved into these pages tugged at my heart and fed my soul. Susan did an impeccable job bringing this series to a conclusion and I am so excited that this will not be my last visit to Renegade!

Shadow is the seventh book in the multi-author series, Heroes of Renegade. This series has been a favorite this year.
Asher is working undercover for the FBI to try to uncover who the leader of the Shadow Syndicate is. Daphne works on protective details in the private sector. When she gets called in for a special case, she must decide who can be trusted and who is the mole. Working with
This story kept me on my toes, and it was such a fun story trying to figure out who has been in charge this whole time.
This fixed-proximity, fake marriage romance was perfect with kisses only.
I can always count on Susan May Warren to bring the perfect balance of faith to my Christian romantic suspense.

I knew the final book in this series would be awesome, but it far exceeded my expectations. There is corruption knee deep in this story and this entire series, and no one can be trusted. I have been waiting, rather impatiently I might add, to find out who the mastermind would be as there are so many corrupt individuals and many moving parts.
Asher and Daphne have both suffered great loss in their lives, and trust does not come easy for either one. Both are wonderful characters with quite a story to share.
The tension and suspense are both ever present throughout the entire story. There are also many lessons to be learned. The faith thread mixed into this story was perfect as well. You do not want to miss this book, nor this series.
Thank you to Sunrise Publishing for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This final book in the series was written so well that the suspense kept me turning the pages. This book was a fitting ending to the series. It was easy to like and sympathize with Asher and Daphne, and it was nice to see other characters from the previous books as well. The descriptions were so well written that I went from feeling comforted and cozy during the calm scenes to feeling thrilled and ready to jump out of my seat as I read the tense action scenes. The criminals were terribly chilling, and there were many twists that I never saw coming. I highly recommend this book and the rest of the series, and I am looking forward to reading the next series coming next year!

This is a twisty, keeps you guessing, story about Asher and Daphne. Asher is an FBI agent assigned to protect witnesses in a trial to bring down the Shadow Syndicate. Daphne is a former cop who hired as an additional witness protection professional to help him. Someone is a mole who is leaking information on their locations. Daphne and Asher develop a relationship as their protection detail continues. As the bad guys close in, and Asher and Daphne rush to protect their witnesses, the mole is revealed. Or is he?
A fast paced ending to the Heros of Renegade series. I highly recommend all the books in this series. The characters are amazing and realistically written. The action in the stories, along with the message about God’s love for us, makes these all of these books winners.

Shadow is the perfect wrap up to the Heroes of Renegade series. I would expect nothing less from Susan May Warren than a well crafted story that perfectly weaves together all of the threads from the previous six books and also adds twists and new tensions.
I found certain aspects of Daphne and Asher to be relatable. Both of them have experienced profound loss and have turned their grief to anger. As they work to bring down the shadow syndicate they learn that they don’t have to do everything alone, that they can rely on God and others for help.
This book has heart pounding action and, of course, some toe curling kisses. I strongly recommend the whole series.

This final book in the Renegade series will definitely keep you guessing! We meet Daphne and Asher. Daphne is brought in to help keep their primary witnesses safe so they can testify against the Shadow Syndicate. From the beginning, we aren't entirely sure if Asher, an FBI agent, is trustworthy or not--but Daphne has been partnered with him and she has to choose whether she will trust him. They have to work together to protect the witnesses--but will their hearts get in the way? This book is full of action, romance, and intrigue. Readers will be on the edge of their seat until the end with this one--don't miss it!

Shadow, written by Susan May Warren, simply blew my mind!! From the beginning until the end: all of the suspense, danger, and action was there. It just kept flowing. WOW. This story was a non-stop rollercoaster of seeking safety for the protectees. This author brilliantly navigated each plot twist and kept me guessing from page to page. Asher, from the FBI and Daphne as a self-employed security contractor, were signed on to keep the witnesses safe. Yet, as this story wrapped up the Renegade series completely, it tied on a gold ribbon across the pages. This thrilling tale will be imprinted upon my heart for a long time. I give it 5 out of 5 stars and in my heart, I know that I will read it again!!

What a finish! I love that there was the thread of the Syndicate throughout the series and we finally got to a conclusion to the notorious organization.
FBI Agent Asher has infiltrated the Syndicate as an informant. In reality, he is only trying to bring down the Syndicate to honor his deceased sister.
When an witness in protection is murdered, private protection agent Daphne is brought in to keep the two remaining witnesses safe. She's all business and intent on working independently.
Lots of action in the pages.
My gratitude to publisher Sunrise for a complimentary copy of the novel. I was not required to post a review and all opinions expressed are my own.

This book was an excellent way to end the series. Shadow contained the perfect mix of character development and action, bringing twists and finality to this series-long fight to uncover the secrets of the Shadow Syndicate. I LOVED the hero and heroine, Asher and Daphne, who both fought for justice in their own way, based on the scars of the past. Warren did an exceptional job of bringing these characters full circle, highlighting the need for truth, justice, hope, and healing.
I am so sad this series is over! I truly enjoyed each book, although this final one was my favorite.

What a way to end the series! I’m always a little sad to say goodbye to a series I’ve invested in, but this finale was such a satisfying conclusion.
Daphne and Asher had me hooked from the beginning. An undercover FBI agent, a former U.S. Marshal, fake marriage, witness protection, betrayal, and a dangerous criminal syndicate gave this story plenty of suspense and twists. I especially loved trying to figure out whether my suspicions were right, and I may have given myself a little pat on the back when they were!
Beyond the suspense, I really enjoyed the faith element and the way both characters had to work through past hurts, trust, and learning to let God lead them. Their romance was sweet, with plenty of tension and those little moments that made me smile.
A fantastic no-spice Christian romantic suspense and a fitting end to a series I’ve really enjoyed. I’m sad to see the Renegade heroes go, but what a finale!
ARC Consideration: Thank you to the author and the publisher for the ARC, all opinions are my own.

The final Renegade story wrapped up the series with a BANG! The Shadow Syndicate was someone I wondered about all throughout the series but never fully came to light until the end! But even better was the story between Daphne and Asher. Daphne is a private contractor for witness protection. Asher is FBI, but everyone wonders if he might not but the "dirty" agent. Daphne learned to never trust others. Asher is charismatic and wants to do the right thing, but is trying to do his job. Daphne and Asher have to pose as a married couple, and sparks fly, but they have to keep the witnesses safe. Some how they keep getting sabotaged along the way... Who is really behind the shadow syndicate?!

What an epic ending to the Heroes of Renegade series. This fast-paced novel has suspense, faith, danger, romance, forced proximity, secrets, and a fake marriage. Daphne and Asher must work together to ensure 2 witnesses stay alive and bring the syndicate down. Both experienced trauma, loss, and grief. Shadow has twists and turns, and the characters didn't know who to trust.

I don't cry often but this book brought the tears for me.
The interaction between Asher and Daphne was so much fun in this book. What started out as a ploy to keep the witnesses safe turned in to a friendship and an understanding. Yet secrets still remain for both of them.
I finished this book quickly because I wanted to see how this series wrapped up. The book definitely took me by surprise and left me guessing throughout.

This may be my favorite book in the series, Asher an FBI agent, playing the part of a corrupt agent and tasked with protecting the two remaining witnesses that could take down the syndicate and Daphne a protection agent who doesn't trust anyone but yet they have to work together as a married couple to protect the witnesses. Plenty of action, suspense, and twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat.

great conclusion!!
Omg, this book had me on the edge of my seat. The suspense packed a punch. And the twist I should have expected but didn’t expect really was an awesome way to finally see the villains get taken down. I loved the characters and how they worked together also the mystery element didn’t disappoint. Overall, excited that I got to read this final book in the series. Highly recommend!

Suspense, tension, action packed adventure returns to Renegade. Appropriately named book. Things hide in the shadows, "But the sun always rises." Inspiration and romance. Definitely worth the read. This book was provided by Sunrise Publishing for me to read. The opinions expressed here are my own thoughts.

Nice series conclusion. I was pleased to have one of my suppositions from early on in the series confirmed. I liked the intriguing lead characters. I think I expected slightly more from this author, who happens to be one of my favourites, as this book seemed more scripted to a formula than in many of her other novels in this genre.

Shadow (7)
A brilliant ending to a brilliant series. Have loved each book and revealed in each couple. Mystery, suspense and betrayal. All part of the series where Light must shine in darkness. Brilliant storyline and wonderful characters to get behind. A real adventure series. I highly recommend going on this journey.

Susan May Warren’s writing is always solid, and I found both of the main characters likable. I’ve also really enjoyed following this series, which is probably why Shadow ended up being a bit of a miss for me.
I had a difficult time figuring out whether Daphne truly trusted Asher or was only pretending to, even though I think the story intended that to be clearer. The big twist at the end was also fairly easy to predict. After following the entire series, I have to admit I was a little disappointed by the final resolution.
I’m still a fan of Susan May Warren’s books, but unfortunately, this one just didn’t quite work for me.
