I was given an ARC of this book and purchased the published edition.
I fell in love with the MacLomain's when I read one of the Calum's Curse books in an anthology a couple of years ago and I've been hooked ever since. Sky has done a wonderful job of keeping the series alive and giving us new generations to fall in love with. This series takes place at the beginning of a very well know time in Scottish history, what an interesting concept, "what if" someone had kidnapped a child who would one day be King, how would that change the course of history? The MacLomain's are tasked with seeing that the future King is kept safe to grow and become the leader he was meant to be. Of course it wouldn't be right if some Broun women didn't show up to help them along, this time we have an interesting plot twist as these women from the future each have their own crisis they are facing.
Cassie and Logan are instantly attracted to each other but it seems fate is going to keep them apart, he's betrothed since birth, she's from the future and slowly loosing her eyesight, even Grant the Arch-Wizard of the Clan is telling Logan he's not the one meant for the lovely lass from the future. However not all things are as the seem and like with Adlin before him, you can never tell with Grant if what he knows and what he tells you are actually the way he sees things are going to be. Cassie and Logan have a bit of a bumpy ride along the way and in the end each will have to face a personal tragedy. Will it bring them together? Or force them apart. You'll have to read the book to find out.
I laughed, I cussed my favorite Wizard Grant for being mean and mysterious and I cried, have a box of tissues beside you as you read cried. I can't wait for Naill's story!
Sky Purington is beginning to be my go to author for really good Scottish romance novels. This is the third series I've read by her and they are a good mix of romance, time travel, hot Scottish men with half dragons, witches, wizards, good vs. Evil all surrounded by some Scottish history. I'll admit this book was good I just enjoyed her Viking series better but this was still a damn good trip back in time.
This is a review for the first 3 books in the series. In this series we have four woman who are meant to travel back in time to help protect Robert the Bruce. I liked the story but I wasn’t a huge fan of the women. I think they were trying to be shown as strong independent women but they just come across as annoying and rude. I liked the men but man the women were driving me crazy.
When Cassie and Nicole arrive at their distant related Broun cousin's home, Cassie especially wasn't to suspect what was in stall for her. Magic, handsome wizards, time travel, medieval Scotland and war. It's a very good story, looking to reading the rest of the series. However, I am going back to "The Next Generation " as it appears to fall between Early Years and Later Years.
Cassie is on a trip to locate people who might be apart of the Broun clan, a part of her Scottish bloodline, to find out any information about the clan, which can ultimately give her information about herself before she succumbs to her impending blindness. When she ventures out with a Broun friend of hers and seek a woman she read about in a manuscript about the clan, Cassie learns that the Broun clan share a special gift of witchcraft and that she is a witch herself. She also learns that the Broun clan is tied to the MacLomain clan (who are also made up of witches and wizards) from Medieval Scotland, and that her and her clansmen before her are able to travel back in time through the use of a Claddagh ring. Cassie isn’t ready to believe what she learns, until she travels back to Medieval Scotland herself. While there, she meets Logan MacLomain, the leader of the MacLomain clan and a man she feels a strong pull towards. Although he is betrothed to another, Logan can’t help but feel a strong desire for Cassie as well. That desire grows with every waking day, even when he tries to put his duties as the leader first and the fact that he is promised to another second. And Cassie tries to keep her feelings under control too, since she faces a life of blindness and doesn’t want to hinder anyone with love. But all of that changes when they both set out to help avenge an allied clan that was ransacked from war, and help to find the missing future king of Scotland. The journey they share brings them closer, but will it be enough for them to get through an illicit love or will they face nothing but doom?
This was a nice romantic adventure book. I’ve read a few Scottish warrior books (not from this author) and this one is going into my collection. I loved that Cassie’s bloodline intermingled with a clan from the medieval times and that romance blossomed between the two, no matter if in the past or the present. I’m a believer in true love and soulmates, and it was nice to see Cassie and Logan feel that strong connection for each other even though they belonged in different times. The witchcraft aspect of the book was nice and subtle, but I do hope to see an abundance of magic and power usage in the future books of this series. There might have been more of the magic that I was looking for in the previous MacLomain series, but I’d have to read them to see. All in all I really liked it. There are a lot of turn of events that surprised me, and the angst and tension of forbidden love and passion between Cassie and Logan made me shiver with anticipation, something I look forward to when reading a good romance. I give it 4 fangs! I recommend this to romantic readers who love adventure, time travel, magic and witchcraft, and the medieval times.

Cassie was researching the family history of her long lost Broun clan. Her research leads to a trip and a meeting with her other family members. Little does she know that her family holds many surprises and secrets. She finds out that she is a witch and is given a magic ring. The magic enables her to travel back in time to the thirteenth century of medieval Scotland. There she meets Logan MacLomain, a chieftain, and realizes that his clan of the MacLomains are tied to her Broun family. She is instantly attracted to him, but he is unavailable because he is already betrothed. As she adjusted to life in medieval Scotland, she gets visions of a young boy in trouble. She finds out that this young boy is Robert the Bruce, the future king of Scotland. To protect Scotland’s future, she and Logan embark on a quest to rescue the young boy who will be king.
Cassie is a likable heroine. She is a woman of the twenty-first century. She has some geekiness, for when she first meets Logan, she compares him to Legolas from Lord of The Rings. However, she is going through some difficulties for she is struggling with blindness. Yet, she has a the gift of sight. I liked how a modern girl gets to see life in medieval Scotland. She is astounded by their customs. I found her to be very bold for she is not afraid to voice her opinions. She is also brave and courageous for she is willing to rescue Robert the Bruce, even though she knows the situation is dangerous.
Overall, this book is about love, friendship, and acceptance. The message of the book is that everything has a reason. I have always been interested in time-travel stories because I have wondered if a modern person went back in time, could that person survive life in the past. This time-traveling story not only explores the topic, but it also has other fantasy elements that involves magic like witches and wizards, shapeshifting, and a mention of a dragon. This book is fast-paced with action and adventure. There was not a dull moment in this book. One thing I liked about this series is that the protagonists are struggling with their disabilities, and are trying to come to terms to love themselves. This makes a unique and interesting heroine. Cassie struggles with going blind. The whole story is about her coming to terms with her disability. The next heroine in the series, Nicole, struggles with going deaf. Therefore, I look forward to reading the next book to find out what happens next. I recommend this book to anyone interested in historical fiction, fantasy, and interesting heroines. (Note: This book was given to me as part of a blog tour in exchange for an honest review.)
I love these time travel books by Sky Purrington. This story is about Cassie ,who is a historian. She is also going blind. She has felt the need to learn about her ancestors. She also is having visions, but they make little, sense to her. These books, always end up with someone going to ancient Scotland, or the highland Warriors coming to the twenty first century. This is done through magic, and in Casey's. case a very ancient ring, and a gifted horse. She arrives during a fierce battle, and is protected by Logan Mac Lomain. the current Lord of the castle. The story jumps quickly in pace since a neighbouring keep and town are pillaged, and an important child is missing. It was a wonderful book with a great deal of adventure, mystery, love, and information about that time in history, and legends that are believed to this day. It sucked you in until the end. I love the closeness in the family, and the ability, and fighting skill both men, and the lasses have. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
Made my day! Logan is the embodiment of the best of the perfect highlander of my dreams! I thought no one could measure up to how I adored Adlin, for he was my yardstick to measure all highlanders, no matter was the author, but Logan's story and character has equal honors! Keep up the good work, I eagerly await Niall's story which I have pre-ordered for December, and can't wait till notices are released for Ronan and Darach's stories! I have not lost track on the main character, Cassie since it is through her eyes all the characters are viewed, and her love and passion that my appreciation for Logan is formed, so it follows that Nicole, Erin and Jacqueline should be rewarding!
