Lost World: The Valley Of Bones

Rate this book
Deep in the Amazon lies the Vale do Javari – over thirty thousand square miles of towering trees that blot out the sun, mist-choked valleys, bottomless black lakes, rotting fungus, disease, and ancient legends of colossal beasts older than mankind itself.

Countless souls have entered seeking fortune. None have returned.

Now an artifact has surfaced—a mysterious dark stone etched with a map that points the way to that lost world and its hidden city. It also speaks of a treasure beyond the key to immortality.

The stone was stolen by a powerful Brazilian crime family, and its patriarch understands exactly what he holds. When the Brazilian government appeals for help, the United States answers by deploying the feared Reaper Special Forces team. Their orders are simple and stop the Molino family and deliver lethal justice.

But what the Reapers discover in this primordial wilderness are things from the dawn of time, alongside monstrous creatures that should exist only in nightmares. What began as a mission of retribution quickly becomes a desperate fight for survival in a primordial green hell.

In the tradition of Primordia and Mysterious Island, comes the LOST WORLD, the next blockbuster adventure series by Greig Beck.

I can't wait for book two!

I really enjoyed this book. Right from the start, a shocking event immediately grabbed my attention and hooked me into the story. From there, the plot kept moving at a great pace, with plenty of suspense, action, and surprises along the way.
The characters were well written and easy to become invested in. I found myself caring about what happened to them and rooting for them throughout their journey. The monsters were one of the highlights of the book for me. They were creative, intimidating, and added excitement and danger to the story.
The villains were absolutely despicable, making them perfect antagonists. Their actions made me dislike them immediately, and they added a lot of tension and emotion to the plot. They were the kind of villains you love to hate.
As the first book in a new series, it does an excellent job of introducing the world and leaving readers wanting more. The ending left me excited for what comes next, and I can't wait to continue the series and see where the story goes.
Overall, this was a fantastic read with a gripping story, memorable characters, terrifying monsters, and truly awful villains. I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys action, adventure, and suspense.

Greig Beck creates new lost worlds with a dizzying ease, and Lost World: The Valley Of Bones is no exception. A mission to take down a Brazilian crime lord lands a U.S. Special Forces team in an unexplored section of the Brazilian rain forest long believed to have been cursed. As the mission progresses, the team finds itself facing creatures from bygone eras, lost cities, and other strange, terrifying denizens of this primeval valley. As always, Beck creates likable characters, loathsome villains, intense action sequences, and a well-designed lost world. There’s even an Easter egg or two related to some of his other books. I hated for this one to be, but with a hint of more to come, I’ll make it. At least until we return to the Valley Of Bones.

Lost World: The Valley of Bones is one of Gregg’s best adventures! It’ fueled by revenge, danger and suspense, but it’s also completely scary because of the slight reality of it all. I mean, Brazilian literally has a jungle that carries things I’d never want to come across. With this story, I could see so much to be feared, but he took it all to another level!

Lost World took a team of Reapers into the Brazilian jungle to exact revenge. Not just for the sake of one of the attending “professionals” but for the countries of Brazil and the US. A mob boss wants everything- even immortality. So much he’s willing to not only kill for it, but so much more. The story places so many in danger and it is gross. It is sick. It is cringe. But wow, what a ride! I loved this book- I read every night before falling asleep. I’m shocked I didn’t have nightmares. And the epilogue ending… I can’t wait. I hope there’s more to come.

Greig Beck has created another amazing cavalcade full of remorseless villains, skilled special forces soldiers, inconceivable beasts and hideous nightmares come to life. Vividly detailed, I felt as if I was on the dual quests of immortality and vengeance making it extremely difficult to tear myself away for work, sleep and my daily activities. Since finishing this riveting read, my thoughts now turn to what ghastly creatures and intrepid characters will inhabit the next book in the series. Long live the Reapers!

Best Beck book in a while.

I admit, I cringed a bit when I heard Beck was jumping back in on Vernian territory. Thankfully, there's more character depth to this one and a couple villains worthy of more than a hand wave. Still, a few too many disposable characters for my taste, but I'll say this: I saw an opportunity halfway before the start of the third act to do something special, and he paid that off in the epilogue.

Let's just say I have a taste for the sequel.

A dark reimagining of a classic

A dark reimagining of a classic, pretty much as you’d expect from the title synopsis. Well written characters, even the red shirts have a bit of flesh on them. Also as expected from these types of books from Greig, this is essentially a tee up of a more in depth multi book story line. This is happy making.

Always a fan of Greig's stories. The monsters are always well written, lots of disposable characters included to make for a good amount of horrible ways to die. Glad to know it will be a series, as he has not disappointed with his others. This one was fun, and looking forward to the rest.

Great read and i hope there will be more Reapers in the future! I love this book and i can imagine more Improved Kane in future books. Also will Kane return to the lost world to continue his "improvements"!
If you like action stories and if you are a Greig Beck fan this is the one to read. Enjoy!

a great empty dangerous area

Not at its best

Took too long , exciting but excruciating moments of pure terror
It continued on and then the danger increased. I wi consider the next step. Before continuing.

When a Brazilian crime lord finds a map to a hidden land, he goes after the fabled immortality orchid. The Reapers are sent to stop him and get justice for the Brazilian president. Interesting start to a new series.

A Good Read

Exciting, doesn't come close. It's sometimes gory, not something I usually reas, much less enjoy, but I was too far in and hooked. The story has just about everything one could ask for. However, it may not be everyone's cup of tea.

Another great Beck book

As always, Greg Beck delivers suspense, action, thrills and horror all rolled into one book. The only thing I didn't like was how fast I finished it.
