Betrothed is a five-part sci fi series. A space opera packed with adventure, action, and romance, it is sure to please fans of Odette C. Bell’s A Plain Jane and The Betwixt.
Odette C. Bell has authored over 50 books, in genres ranging from sci-fi adventure to urban fantasy. Odette started off on FictionPress many moons ago. Her original name was Muscularkevin. Her first work was Gladys the Guard. She later became Scrabblecat before finally publishing in 2011/2012.
previous pen names include J.C. Luck, Monica Shepherd, Sarah Good, and Jilly McQueen
This is my first time reading anything by Odette Bell - thank you free iBook. Reading this book was stressful... I was gripped but I finished in a state of unease. Where had I experienced that before - oh yeah, as a thirteen year old reading fanfiction for the first time. Judging it by those standards, this was a really good read, Annie was okay as a main character and Hart was the Vegeta to Annie's fan fiction Bulma - ditzy and yet some depth. Considering how fast I ripped through this, I'm hesitant to pay $4.99 for the second episode and considering there are meant to be five episodes and yet only three available, I'd rather not endure getting more than halfway then being stuck on a cliffhanger. I'll just have to add the second book to the TBR pile and check back in a couple of months...
Recommend for those wanting a short change of pace in between big book commitments.
This was better than Odette's other books, but that doesn't say much.
The first irritating part was that they made a big deal in the first few chapters about what her contract was. The book is titled Betrothed. Why bother adding that 'what could it be' aspect?
There were many editing issues, including misspelled words like implont, and in one instance the author very, very clearly accidentally changes the POV, which should have been picked up by a beta reader.
I've read lots of 1st in a series books. This story hooked me despite not liking the heroine at first. At the end of the episode, I had to read the rest of the series. So I bought the bundle and finished the entire series in two days. I didn't regret my purchase, cause the story intrigued me and kept me guessing on what happened next. This is the first book I've read from the author, so her books will land of my massive TBR pile.
The story is great and the characters well written. I have enjoyed how Annie's character has changed and what she has had to overcome so far and I really cant wait to read the next part of her story.
I love reading about futuristic worlds and this book grabbed me and wouldn't let me put it down What an exhilarating rush. I'm straight off to download the whole series as I need more now.
Unusual story. Lots of action. There are more than Pov's. Abba has some character growth as she does everything she can do to survive and find out why everyone seems to want her. I hate how the book ends during a crisis. This is the first of five books.
Anna Carter was put into a cryogenic sleep after contracting a terminal illness more than 400 years ago. Today she is Newfound and only been awake for 3 years. Determined to add worth to society, Anna attempts to apply for a job in the Cluster but hits a few setbacks. Suddenly the world she just adjusted to, is turned upside down and she doesn’t know whom to trust.
The storyline to this book was incredibly intriguing. I wanted to know the answer to all the questions that popped up into my head, and there were many. I love how this story had me doubting my predictions. This book rotated between the POV of Anna Carter, Lieutenant Mark Havelock and Captain Fargo. The switches were greatly timed and made sense.
The biggest downfall of this book was the editing. I know that we as bloggers should judge a book on the story line and the characters et cetera, but I cannot ignore grammatical errors. It is like an itch in my brain. If something doesn’t make sense when I am reading, I will reread that section again to see if I can understand it. When there are grammatical errors throughout a story, the consequence I generally sections that don’t make sense. Therefore, I end up continuously stopping and rereading. This ruins the flow of reading for me.
My recommendation: If you are looking for a futuristic out of space short story, this is great. If you hate grammatical errors, this is not great.
