Planetborn

Rate this book
Gaea is a young colony world, and Cabot Colony a place where the first children born planet-side are just now coming of age. But there is something strange about this new generation, and rumors of a small portion of them possessing strange abilities soon begin to spread. When the colony’s leader, Speaker Paul Joseph, decides that they pose a threat to his people and his own authority, he decides it is time to act.

Darius Vicar, a weakly gifted youth, has been waiting for this day to come but urges his more powerful friends Jason Maxwell and Edmond Gener to surrender peacefully. He soon regrets his decision. The three quickly find themselves imprisoned alongside a growing number of their peers in a secret facility large enough to hold everyone in their generation. The Speaker's long term plan seems clear. Together the children look for a way out.

When Joseph’s former second-in-command, Alfred Morris, chooses blood over patriotism, and escapes with his daughter, he is able to assist the other Planetborn in a desperate prison-break.

Joseph’s unwillingness to allow the gifted children any rights quickly leads the colony down the road to civil war. Are the young refugees willing to sacrifice the lives of their families and friends in an effort to secure the freedom of their peers and the coming generations?
