After the devastating loss of her parents and subsequent depression, Olivia Brown decided a move from her parent’s family home in Cambridge to a house in London would give her the fresh start she so sorely needed. Living off her inheritance, Olivia didn’t need to work, but she knew she needed something to make her feel like life was worth living. Painting was her one true love, but that wasn’t enough. So she started a part-time job in a bar, and the rest of the time she spent at a local soup kitchen, feeding the homeless. In the mornings, she bought hot beverages for her homeless friends, but there was one who never asked. This man, having the most facial hair she’d ever seen, the most captivating eyes she’d ever stared at, remained aloof. He never said a word to anyone, and never once looked her way. However, all this did was make Olivia want to find out more about this mysterious man hiding behind a face full of hair. One perilous evening, her wish came true. On the way back from working at the bar, Olivia was attacked. She screamed for help, relieved when her cries are answered...but surprised when she saw who her rescuer was. It was the eyes. It was the hair. It was none other than the mysterious homeless man. That night, Olivia learned two things. One, his name was Kit, and two, Kit had skills… skills which didn’t fit a man living on the streets. Day after day, Olivia slowly pushed the boundaries, coaxing out the man hiding behind the hair. Kit Chain wasn’t only trained like men she watched in movies, he was also the most beautiful. Bit by bit, Olivia managed to break down his walls, revealing secrets that would change her life. Secrets that would put both of them in terrible danger. However, there was one thing about secrets... Everyone had them. This is NOT a traditional love story. It contains disturbing subject matter, including themes of questionable consent for both male and female, as well as graphic sexual content. This is a work of fiction intended for a mature, 18+ audience only. The author neither endorses nor condones this type of behaviour.

EKKKKKkkkkkkk

You can't hunt me down or shoot me because I'm crushing over the cover!! Cover HOE from way back and this cover speaks volumes!!

I first started FAN - GIRLING over this author when I read DEVIANT so am excitedly anticipating this book to see what she's going to come up with..If it's anything like the cover I'm expecting something HOT and maybe a touch of DARKNESS!!

The man I was so mystified with, the man who both annoyed me and bewildered me? His name was Kit Chain… And this was our story..

In my house growing up, we had a lot of shadows. When I was a kid, I used to think the shadowman would get me..

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I'm not going to lie on my review, I did initially find this hard to get into at the beginning and I can't put my finger on why I didn't connect with it, I had to walk away and then come back to it, after about a few more chapters in I started to really enjoy it then by the end of it I ended up loving this book..

Gone were the days when my life was simple, easy, and carefree. I now lived my life on the run. I was twenty when it all started.

The beginning of the book starts off with twenty year old Olivia reminiscing about the past, admitting that when both parents were deceased she cut herself off from the world and became a recluse she is left alone in the world but has an uncle even after all these years, I still didn’t know his actual name. who isn't a blood relative but has generally been there throughout her early years..

I wanted him more than I've wanted anyone in my whole life, I wanted his comfort, I wanted his caress. I wanted him

UNCLE: He turned back to me and lifted his finger to my lips. I felt the liquid and instinctively licked them. I closed my eyes. Loving the strawberry taste on my tongue.
What's that?
I already told you Livy, it's just a little sweet vitamin mixture Something to help you get stronger.

He also helps her get on her feet later on in life when she uproots and moved to London. London is where she dabbles in painting, works in a pub and volunteers in a soup kitchen for the homeless..There is one man who has caught her interest, he never acknowledges her, never so much as speaks to her, she's keen to find out what his background is..There is just something about him that intrigues her..

What’s your name? I’ve been calling you mystery man.

He reminded me of myself and, for that reason alone, I wanted to know more. It became a craving after a while. I even found myself painting him a few times because I couldn’t get the image of his eyes out of my head.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

He never spoke to me, he never uttered a word, he never acknowledged my presence.

After one harrowing night at work Olivia declines her bosses offer of him walking her the ten minutes to her residence when the unthinkable happens and homeless man comes to her rescue..

A pyramid of puzzle pieces within a puzzle, a complex storyline where your left confused at times but at other times it all just clicks into place piece by puzzle piece..

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen in this book Jaimie through a curve ball totally did not see any of that coming!!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Ohhhhh gods shoot me NOW, soooooo I know alot will hate UNCLE BUT I ended up kind of rooting for him, yes without going into too much detail he was a sick twisted fuck who got EVERYTHING he DESERVED but (yes I need my head read) part of me connected with his character (shit I needs therapy lol)..But hopefully there are some sick puppies out there who know what I'm talking about..*Prays really really hard*

This is one fucked up story, mind fuckery at it's best and this author seems to push that more and more with each new release..Definitely is going to be a hard book to top..

1.5 stars. It's entirely possible that it's way too early for me to care enough to write an entirely unfavorable review.

*Trigger warning : rape*

Or it's entirely possible that I might not have actually hated Chained, even though I'm still scratching my head (not really) over how far-fetched the entire drug scenario was.

The entire plausibility of this story hinged on the effectiveness of a drug.

Strawberry vitamins, my ass. (no, that is not a spoiler. I'm pretty sure anyone with half a brain will catch this the very first time idiotic "Livy" feels her out-of-body experience.)

The rest, you may not want to know if you haven't read the book.

Hmmm...okay, that sounds kind of far-fetched, but I might've gone with it, until this...

Uh, yeah. Nope.

That entire drug thing reminded me of in paranormal type books. But at least with paranormal books, the explanation makes more sense in that setting - AND because the explanation is based off an other-species biological reaction - which is already not part of the scope of human behavior. So we go with it. Drugs, however, are something that we humans know a little bit about when it comes to how they work. And I'm pretty sure that there will never be a miracle drug which can

*itching to insert nope meme again*

I'm hungry. My mostly-unbothered self wants to eat. So in an unbothered fashion, I won't continue on to rant for days about the 100 other things that were possibly wrong with this book.

Here is the short list : Bad nicknames. Too many men interested in the female lead. Royalty claims being pulled out of someone's ass. An agency which probably exists in real life in one form or another, but was so secretive that the author couldn't give us any important details about it. The alcoholic works in a bar (I've read this before in another book, stare the beast in the eye, whatever...). Olivia recalled eyes that she would never forget, yet she somehow didn't recognize the man they belonged to when they were staring her in the face. Everyone ended their texts with "xx" - even people who didn't text each other to know to use it. Excessive winking and blushing. Kit's body leaving Olivia's was sure to bring the cold in full force.

What I did like : When you strip away The Agency, a character named Uncle, the unrealistic drug, the rape ridiculousness, and all of the excess non-story (I still don't understand the point of Olivia's boss being obsessed with her), there was a sweet story between Olivia and Kit. Getting to watch Olivia draw Kit out of his shell was quite endearing, and the biggest reason why I kept reading. If all of the "extra" was cut back, I could have possibly fallen in love with this couple.

Ehhh...this was good. It didn't "wow" me but held my interest throughout.

I did like the part about Kit when Olivia first finds him and how she brings him out of his shell. This is definitely what upped my rating to a 4.

It is told in Olivia's POV, but I think I would have liked to have had a few chapters in Kit's - just to get to know what was going on in that sexy brain of his!

Good story - off the beaten track - not one to pass over!

Olivia had a very tough time after her parents died (even though they were not the best and most loving people in the world). Alcohol and her 'Uncle' were her only 'friends' for a while.
Three months ago she moved to London.
She has enough money now, to do whatever she wants. Only, she doesn't really know what she wants. She loves to paint, so that's what she does to relax and think and forget about everything. To busy herself, she has a part-time job at a Pub and the rest of the time she helps out in the soup kitchen - to feed the homeless.

description

That's where she meets Mystery Man.

description

He comes in almost every day to get his plate of food, and he never talks, never looks at her.
But Olivia is totally captivated by him. His eyes especially - well, because they're beautiful, but also because they're the only part of his face that's not completely covered by hair. ☺

Then one night some idiot follows her after work ....

description

but before she gets seriously hurt, her bearded Mystery Man sweeps in and rescues her - all very James Bond-like.

description

They finally start to talk a bit after that night. But he's still not opening up to her, he's still running away every time she gets too close.

Coming to London wasn't just coincidence...Olivia has a plan - she wants to find and kill the 'Shadowman' - the man who tried to kill her family ten years ago ...
With the help from 'Uncle' she tries to find clues...
BUT - 'Uncle' is not really as nice as he pretends to be. Something sinister is going on with him and his ... strawberry stuff ☺☺☺

It takes a while, but Kit is slowly opening up a bit.... they get closer pretty fast and a LOT of sexy things happen ☺☺☺

description

But of course there are waaay too many secrets and problems still in the way of a Happy Ever After.... Secrets and of course 'Uncle'.

WILL HAPPEN TO OLIVIA & KIT??
WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH UNCLE?
WILL LIVY GET HER HEA???
WILL THERE BE A CLIFFHANGER o.O

description

WILL EVERYBODY DIE AT THE END?

description

NOPE, I'm not telling you ☺

I didn't really know what to expect when I started reading.
I loved the cover and it led me to believe it would be a really dark and dangerous story...
And yes, there's darkness, and danger, and lies and sex and whatnot...
But it's also a really wonderful love-story.
A story about a boy and a girl with lots of bad stuff in their pasts, who might have a shot at a happy future with each other - but there are just too many secrets and dangers that could destroy them...

All through the book you hope that Kit and Olivia will get their HEA....

☆ I received an ARC via the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!! ☆

When Jaimie Roberts offered me a copy of this ARC, it didn't come to mind that it would even come close to topping the Deviant series, but man it did!!

Chained was gritty, it was unconventional, and it really f*@cked with me with how messed up it could be at times.

I don't know if it's because I've been digging deviant themes reads as of late, but, this one was alerting and yet I kept on reading because I was curious as to how things would pan out.

I was literally 'chained' to my kindle. My own family couldn't get me to come and socialize for a whole 3 or 4 ish hours.

Huh. How should I do this?

I gotta say, the first 75% was really boring. I skimmed some of the pages because I just need to get to the ending that's I know, going to wreck me.

Then around 75%, things changed. It changed a lot. Then I got wrecked. Horribly.

However, let me criticise the plot. Which was terribly executed. When you have to describe the whole plot in the epilogue, the plot which didn't even come into play in the 95% of the book, you know you fucked up. It was like we have an alternate reality happening, and original reality was the boring one.

Sigh... I just can't.

With that said, I wouldn't say the book deserve a lower rating than 3 since it kept my attention raptly after that 75%.

Warning : this book is not for the faint hearted ! If you’re used to sweet romance or mild violence and can’t stand more, pass your way. It’s an excellent story but really, really harsh and hard to read.

Not only do you have wild sex scenes, you also have mind manipulation and non-consensual sexual relationship (I won’t tell more).
I loved Deviant and Redemption by Jaimie Roberts and was ecstatic to receive this book in exchange for an honest review. This author has guts. This book is unconventional and is so hard I was sick while reading some of the hardest parts of that story. It shook me and made me feel everything. I wanted to murder (yes, you’ve read correctly) “ Uncle” for his depraved ways. I was clutching my Kindle in a death grip as I read violent scenes. I could not put it down. And that’s what I call a job well done as I totally forgot my problems and my day to day life.

I loved the mystery, the way the author built the story and set the scene step by step. There are many things we only learn and understand at the end of the book and it keeps us reading. We just have to know what will happen and understand all the mystery. Why is Olivia acting so erratically? What is she looking after? She is quite mysterious throughout the book. Kit, the other main character remains an enigma for a very long time too. Once again, I consider it a good job.

The plot and the characters:

On one hand you have Olivia. She has quite a dark past and is a recovering alcoholic. We guess she comes from money but don’t know precisely what kind of money: legit or not? She volunteers at a kitchen soup and helps homeless people. She truly cares about them and is really dedicated to her job. Beautiful and kind, she also is battling nightmares.
“Uncle” has been in her life since a very long time. Family friend, he saved her from a destructive path after her parent’s death. But is it worth the cost? He is a permanent fixture in her life and is always lurking around. Troubling and dark he owns Olivia. He is controlling and jealous. He is a dangerous and possessive man. What was disturbing was her inability to fight her lust once Uncle is close. But she only remembers what she did as in a dream. It was difficult to read about their “encounter” and I was unsettled many times in the book. Why does she keep doing it?

Olivia is on a mission for Uncle but we don’t know what kind of mission. It will only be revealed late in the book.

For some time now, Olivia is taken by one of her homeless customer. He is tall, distant and silent but she feels attracted by him. He keeps his distances, always avoiding interaction with her or others. But we soon realize he is also following her and wants to insure her safety. On a fateful night, she’ll break his walls. Progressively, she’ll tame Kit, our mysterious man. He carries many secrets and is frightened to hurt Olivia. Unable to stay away, they’ll begin a beautiful relationship. I loved reading about it. Kit was like a wild animal: strong but also shy and frightened. He reminded me of Archer or Edh (Transcendence) with their candor and maleness.
As much as the sex scenes with Uncle were wrong, violent, twisted, these with Kit and Olivia were pure and beautiful (don’t worry, they were really hot too).
Many events happen in this book and it is smartly built to lead us to a violent and well deserved conclusion.

So all in all, a harsh but very interesting read that will make you react in many ways.

This was an amazingly complex book. The variety of characters, emotions and settings was simply fantastic.
This is the story of Olivia. After her parents' death, she's been living on her own, searching for the life that will mean something to her. Her only comfort is a man; her Uncle as she calls him, but they are not actually related. She's known him for many years and the attractive man has a hold on her that she cannot explain.
Her daily routine includes working at a soup kitchen, helping the ones in need. There, she meets a quiet but very alluring man; Kit Chain. The homeless man with the beard and long hair always ignores her, but she notices him and when her attempts to know him better pay off, she will be shocked to realize what lies underneath the unkept man. Passion and love blooms between them, but there are secrets that will tear them apart.
When Olivia finds herself at the mercy of her mysterious Uncle, she will finally realize the illusion that she's been living in. And Kit will have to pay the price.

 photo 11403056_686643958133330_4704880765878478401_n_zpsd7rvhhhd.jpg

The story was very unique. Olivia's relationship with the two men in her life is very...complicated. There is a pull towards both men, but only one is the one she should focus on. Only one deserves her love. It's like she's addicted to Uncle and at the same time, she deeply loves Kit. The many characters that we meet in the book definitely add to the story and I simply adored the way the plot is developed. My only complaint is that I thought that Olivia should have realized how much Uncle had been playing her from the start. I was suspicious of him from the first chapter and I can say that he plays the key role in this book.
Kit was simply...fantastic! I loved everything about him. The chemistry between him and Olivia was sizzling. I wanted them to get their happy ending.
The writing was excellent and I cannot wait to read more from this author.
If you want something unique, sexy, addictive and dark, then this is for you. Don't miss it.

4 Stars from me.

What an emotional rollercoaster!!!!!
I can honestly say that this book has messed with my mind, heart and libido.
In times I loved it so much I found myself eager to go on and others I was so frustrated and angry I wanted to put it down.
Olivia, a young girl who's gone through a lot spends her days trying to find herself and establish a routine after the horrific death of her parents while trying to take everything in and evade the advances of her creepy 'uncle'.
And there comes Kit. Angry, rude, damaged, but so beautifully flawed.
Poor Livy never stood a chance!!!!
This book is dark, but full of hope.
The angst is in abundance and by the time you get to the HEA you'll let out a breath you never realised you were holding...

This is my first book from Jaimie Roberts but it won't be my last.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

OK!!! DEADLY VIAGRA ALERT.....

What a mess!!! I was so looking forward to the dark nature of the plot but the second half of the book just dashed all my hopes. I feel very cruel saying this but i am regretting picking this book up. The plot line got derailed somewhere in between and it went from revenge/mystery/romance to drug induced sex and then some more sex.

Olivia is described from the beginning as someone from a distinguished background and it was hinted throughout that she is on borrowed time trying to find someone but the entire time she volunteers in the soup kitchen she does not do a single thing towards that goal. There were so many loose ends in the story.

First, there was no mention of the leads that makes Olivia work in the soup kitchen to look for the infamous "SHADOWMAN". She has encountered this "SHADOWMAN" once in her past when she was a little girl. The sahdowman was supposedly there to kill her parents but finally does not kill them. Now after the passing of her parents (not by the hand of "SHADOWMAN", i must add) she is out to take revenge, which was irrational at best.

It felt like the author is trying to shove Olivia's kind nature down our throat every chance she got. There were random events that happened in all the homeless peoples lives that kind of made up 40% of the story.

Secondly, it was again hinted from the beginning that Olivia is maybe being manipulated by her "uncle" through drugs and hypnosis into feeling sexually for him but they were never verified properly (That strawberry liquid thing which he kept giving Olivia was not mentioned later).

Uncle or Zac is described as a dangerous, cunning and manipulative SOB who is also a pedo in good measure. He is the head of an elite agency but the nature of his involvement with Olivia's father and the inner workings of his organization was not made too clear. The entire book felt like bread crumbs leading to nothing but Olivia having non stop sex.

Kit is a guy who is hiding from his past. He is vulnerable and is wary of his surroundings. He is the only saving grace in this read. He was a man with very few words who falls in love with the girl who is connected to the same past he is trying to escape. I would have loved to read a few chapters on his pov. After Olivia's kidnap, Kit's struggle to and efforts to find and rescue Olivia would have been more welcome than Zac's pure psychotic possession of Olivia.

Kit's mysterious past paired with his skills made him a very complicated character and i kept on waiting the entire book for his past to come to light but the entire mystery/intrigue and the secrets were hurriedly crammed into one chapter at the end. There were so many secrets that needed to be answered but the revelations were treated as a not so important factor of the story.

The only thing that i liked was the transition of Kit from a bearded homeless guy to the sweet, sensitive, passionate and loving man who captured Olivia's heart from the beginning.

In my opinion the story had a lot of potential but the end product was not something i liked at all. I think if the secrets were revealed timely and not just shoved at the end of the book, the story could have been a great dark romance.

If you are interested in some explicit erotica and not at all concerned about the mystery and the plot then go ahead with this one...
I would not recommend it...

4.5 stars from Chained by Jaimie Roberts. I was given an ARC for a review. I for one hate when I see an honest review. Does that mean the rest of your reviews are embellished?

Any who, I loved this dark twisted thriller! Olivia is a sweet girl with a dark past, unloving parents who she strives to earn their love from. Her dad killed himself, her mom died soon after and she was on her own, only looked after by "Uncle" a family friend, with less then chivalrous intentions. He is protecting her from the "shadow man" a ghost or man she saw the day her dad died.

Given time to try and find and kill the shadow man, Olivia is working at a soup kitchen and her authenticity and caring for the customers endears you to her immediately. At the kitchen there is a man we come to learn is named Kit. He is quiet and a loner. Olivia is intrigued and tries to get to know him with no luck. Until fate intervenes and then they grow closer till she is taken but unknown forces and held prisoner.

There is a super roofie, perverts, wild sex, crazy action and a wild ride to the finish. This book is awesome for fans of romance, thriller, suspense, dark.

Must read recommendation from this guy.

The man I was so mystified with, the man who both annoyed me and bewildered me? His name was Kit Chain… And this was our story.

If I could give Chained 24 (yes Jaimie...) stars I would. The story, the suspense, it's deep. Chained is beauitful puzzle of light and dark all pieced together to create a book that will grab you and take you for a ride.

"His eyes never lied, though. It was his eyes that made me question everything I stood for and, in turn, made me want to know more… So much more."

Kit is a beautiful enigma, desperately beauitful despite his hidden past. Olivia is a unique character. There was a time I wanted to shake her, cause she appears weak, however it all plays the way it supposed to and at the end I was rooting for her and Kit.

“It’s a pity your surname wasn’t Ching because you could say your name’s Kit Ching!"

Uncle is a whole 'nother story. I just can't even talk about him. Dark, evil, and twisted.

Jaimie Roberts once again you have managed to capture my heart in a book and I just hope that everyone will give Kit & Olivia a read so they can enjoy the beautifully fucked up puzzle.

Almost a dnf but glad I carried on and finished it but felt all the excitement and grippy angst was all at the end.

Olivia lost both her parents. She always thought her father was a good man but soon finds out otherwise.
Uncle was her Lord and Master. If she was a good girl for Uncle she would be rewarded. Olivia became conditioned to Uncle from the first day he took her under his wing. He used drugs, hypnosis and Jack Daniels all part of a plan. Uncle was a real creep.

I liked Olivia she had a big heart and she believed in what she did. Very caring and considerate of the homeless. She was liked and loved by everyone.
Kit the mysterious man in the corner turned out to be a wonderful man too with a broken past of his own. Would of been nice to get his pov throughout especially near the end.

Overall a good first read by this author.

I did not know anything about this book when I choose to read it – I admit I might not have picked it up had I known the dark elements I would have to endure. But I came out on the other and unharmed …

Chained by Jaimie Roberts is really not your average traditional love story. The plot is not following a steady pace but moving from right to left and sometimes when you just felt you might have figured something out. – well the story will prove you wrong.

The plot is confusing at times and either you will follow my lead and stick to it because it hooks you o you will place it aside as a DNF – there is no other way or sugarcoating. As I said I usually don’t “do” dark but this book had something that drew me in and kept me with the character until the end.

While I could not connect to them many times I still liked the plot which is very unusual for me. Would I recommend it .. yes .. but even I have to think long and hard on the kind of person I would recommend it to. Either you will love or hate it – are you ready to try ?

Another fantastic read from this author. After finishing reading this at 1am in the morning I told a few bloggers I'd just finished it. Asked what it's about I scratched my head and thought heck I don't wanna ruin this for anyone. I then proceeded to copy n paste the book description for them and left it like that. I'm still trying to figure out what I've just read lol it felt as if it was a light and dark read all rolled into one.

I have high expectations of this author. So when I started reading this I actually had to check that I had the correct book. However once I kept reading the twists were amazing. I felt the author kept dipping me from light to dark. If that didn't mess with my head then the storyline did.

Although I loved this story I'm glad it's a standalone. I'm not sure my heart or Olivia could take anymore.

P.s. LOVE the name Olivia... Well of course I do as its my middle name:)

P.s. Again... Just looking at that cover brings back that specific scene to me. Blimey I need to go read this book again. LOVED IT.

Chained by Jaimie Roberts is the reason why I adore standalone reads. It's full of depth, emotion, suspense and twists galore that keep you clutching your kindle till the early hours to know what happens next. I absolutely adored Deviant and Redemption so I was hoping for her to give my fix of darkness, vengeful emotions and misplaced agendas and she didn't disappoint.

The book follows Olivia, a solitary twenty year old who has faced the worst of what life can throw at you. Her Dad took his own life, her mother died from cancer soon after and her pampered, luxurious lifestyle is a distant memory now. She chose to be a recluse after seeking solace in the bottle immediately after her parents passing, but she now lives in London and works in a bar and a homeless soup kitchen whilst she contemplates how to fulfil her one mission that will bring her peace: finding the Shadow-man who haunts her memories, or so she thinks. Her 'uncle' is the one constant in her life from her past and his influence and power over her is one that sets your senses into high alert from his first mention. He is linked to her past but why and what are his intentions for her future?

Whilst volunteering at the soup kitchen she meets Kit; a reclusive man who peaks her curiosity. He's always around in the shadows and keeps a close eye on her. He saves her one evening and from that point on their forever connected but this is far from a simple romance plot line and Jaimie entices you into this deeply malevolent tale of greed, power and desire where the lines of family and morals are blurred when it comes to one person and what they want.

This book questions how much are you willing to risk to seek the truth and how far you are willing to go to get what you want. As the story unfolds we watch Olivia fighting against the fears of her past and the addictions of her present to be able see the light in her dark reality. Will Kit be the key to set her free or will he be another one of the monsters who keeps her in the dark?

I fear if I write more I will spoil the whole experience for you and this book has to be felt first hand; every twist, turn, revelation one page at a time. The pieces of the puzzle slowly come together and what is revealed will leave you reeling!!
This book by Jaimie questions: what is the price of love and how much does guilt and power drive people to do unquestionable acts of violence and malice?

4.5 Stars

What drew me to this book was the fact that it appeared to be a dark read. Now for much of the book I was starting to doubt whether this was as dark as I assumed, but WOW, the last third certainly meant there was no confusion that this book does 'exactly what it says on the tin'.

Most of the chapters began with a flashback. Chronologically, these appeared to be out of sequence but as the flashbacks occurred as part of Olivia's dreams, this made the irregularity perfectly acceptable.

I have to say, I didn't necessarily warm to Olivia's character at first. Despite the flashbacks into her past, I wasn't entirely sure as to what happened and as a reader was kept in the dark. She seemed to be under some kind of control by Uncle, who wasn't actually her Uncle, but we'll come to him in just a moment. Olivia was very much a contradiction. She seemed to be battling many demons from her past, yet her future self seemed to be bordering on saint like qualities, which portrayed her as selfless as I imagine a person can be. She definitely grew on me though, as her character gained more depth.

Kit, well what can I say about him? I'm a sucker for a hot homeless guy. There's always that air of vulnerability, but also the stubbornness to refuse any help when offered. I knew from the start there was more to Kit and I loved him from the beginning.

Now I cannot do this review without mentioning the Uncle who isn't Olivia's Uncle. For me, I think this name was a very clever decision, because there was definitely sexual intention from him and the fact that he was named as a family member made you hate him all the more. Olivia has been promised to Uncle, but she had been granted permission to live a relatively normal life until Uncle decided she must return to be with him. I was completely sickened by him. However, I have to admit at feeling slightly confused and wondering how certain scenes had me so hot under the collar. They were dirty and debauched and I for one friggin loved it.

I have to say this book, which by the way appears to be a standalone, was totally unique and for me there were only a few minor items stopped me from giving it the full five stars, but definitely a book I would recommend to the avid Dark/Erotic genre readers.

WOW. Just wow.

Jaimie has hit the ball completely out of the park with this book. It's so freaking fantastic and completely original. Much darker than her other books, and I loved every single word of it.

This is not like any story that I've read before. There is a plot line like none I've read and it's sinister. And have I told you yet that I love every word?

Olivia is trying to start over after losing her parents. She's moved to London, gotten a part time job and is helping out with some volunteer work. She's settling down and is finding that she's liking it. But she has secrets. Ulterior motives. Urges that sometimes consume her.

Kit has become one of Olivia's objects of focus. She saw him at the soup kitchen, always alone, never looking at anyone or interacting with anyone. Her mission was to get to bring him out of his shell. What she didn't know was that while he seemed lost in his own world, he was very aware of hers.

What I love about this book is that it kept me on the edge. I was constantly wondering what would happen next; who was this character, who was that character? Were they really what they seemed? I hate books that become predictable, and Chained is anything but!

As usual, there are some incredibly hot sex scenes in this book (I don't think it would be a Jaimie book without them!). But there are also some very hard scenes that bring the question of consent into the picture. If you have ANY trigger issues, you might want to tread lightly with this one. There are no graphic scenes, none too violent.

Overall, this book flowed very well, was fast paced and all of my questions were answered in the end. This may well be my favorite book of Jaimies yet!

When I began this book, I was intrigued by the blurb and how exactly a homeless man would become the love interest in the story. But as I continued reading, I began to feel my heart fall for Kit.

The story begins with Olivia Brown flashback of when she was a small girl. This sets up the story and is important to know throughout. So pay very close attention to the details. Olivia helps at a local soup kitchen and works at a bar at night. Every morning she gathers up coffee orders and on her way to the soup kitchen she drops them off to the homeless, that she begins a friendship with. In this group of friends she sees a guy that doesn’t socialize with anyone or speaks a word. This makes the reader intrigued. One night while working at the bar, she gets attacked by a man and is then saved by the very own anti-social homeless man. We then we begin to see how Olivia tries to connect with this man that wants nothing at all.

The book has flashbacks to a time when Olivia wasn’t so generous with her time. She drowns herself in alcohol, Jack Daniels to be exact. And an important character enters as the Uncle. This man just reeks of bad news and feeds on poor Olivia’s sorrows.

These 3 characters come together for an interesting, dark romance. This was a different storyline than I’ve ever read. And a few times, I got annoyed with Olivia’s decisions but then I later understood where the author was going. I did enjoy reading Chained and had that ‘aha’ moment when you realize the reasoning for the titles name. 4 smooches for Chained by Jaimie Roberts.

4.25 crazy good stars! This was my first book by this author and I really liked her style. The writing sucks you in, as does the intense plot and the characters all had depth (even the devil). I enjoy a dark read and although I've read darker, this one definitely had some seriously dark elements in the story. In fact, it was a great mix of contemporary romance and suspense all set within a hellish/sadistic background. You have to read to understand, but after reading this, I'd like to read other books by this author.

Amazing! Jaimie knows how to pull in her readers.

This was absolutely amazing read. Olivia is fighting her demons from her past. That girl is super strong and such an amazing person. Kit is homeless and he is also fighting his demons as well. Not only is this a dark read, its also brilliant and so darn sexy.

I liked it hoping for this great twist, but it got weird especially towards the end. The whole "viagra" pill was too far fetched. I ended up skimming because I could not stand

I loved that the heroine was working at a homeless shelter. I love that the story started with the hero being aloof, etc., but it got weird with the whole Uncle thing. There was no real big twist like I hoped. It was what it was and it did not work for me in the end.

Review by Jen Hagen

I started reading this book when I went to bed and that was a huge mistake…at 30% my Ambien kicked in and I was really wishing I hadn’t taken it because I extremely pulled into the story. I am a sucker for homeless men and I needed to know Kit’s story.

Twenty-year-old Olivia is working in a soup kitchen. Olivia lost both her parents at a young age. She witnessed her father place a gun to his head and pull the trigger. That haunts her dreams along with something else she witnessed long before that event. That something belongs to a shadow and the man who created it. “Shadowman” is her nemesis. She has a hidden agenda to working at the soup kitchen and she has 3 months to find her information before Uncle takes her back home.

This Uncle is really not her uncle, thank goodness. Immediately my impression of him was a pervert. He gave Olivia a longing look even when she was a child and he is 17 years older than she! It skeeved me out. The good news is he never acted upon his desires when she was underage but for reasons unknown during Olivia’s narrative, she was always effected when he was in her presence. There was no way she could fight the way her body would react to him being near. The brush of his finger on her lips leaving a strawberry scent made her body ignite.

“Don’t you want to please me?”
His words hit between my legs, making me moan again. “Yes,” I breathed, unable to hide how I felt towards him. My lord and master.

Kit is 32 years old but looks much older than that due to hiding behind his long hair and beard. Kit’s survival depends on his anonymity. Kit is very standoffish, does not make eye contact with anybody, and forget about getting him to speak to you. He keeps to himself, but yet keeps an eye out on everybody to make certain that they are safe. Kit’s eye on Olivia makes Olivia think that she may actually be considered his friend, but Kit makes it clear she is not.

“Don’t talk to me. Don’t say my name. I don’t want you anywhere near me.” He walked off and I felt the stab of rejection straight to my chest.

Olivia’s heart is golden. She takes care of the homeless people outside the soup kitchen doors. Everybody knows her by name and they all take an interest in her life. She is their friend, and they are her friends. It is very difficult for her not to be Kit’s friend, but when Kit needs help it is Olivia that he seeks out.

“I didn’t know where else to go.” I could barely hear him, but I felt my eyes glisten a little at his confession.

Kit is an awesome man now, but years ago he wasn’t. That’s part of his secret and the allure that keeps me wondering what his backstory is. He wasn’t always homeless, but in his former life he didn’t have relationships as believe it or not, this sexy man used to be a nerd. Women didn’t exactly flock to him, but Olivia loves spending time with Kit. He makes her truly happy, and that isn’t something that she has ever felt in her entire life. Kit has a difficult time understanding why Olivia would want to be with him.

“Why do you need me so much? What is it I could possibly give you?” He gestured towards his body. “Look at me. I have nothing. The only reason I’m eating with you now is because I cooked food that you bought, under the roof that you pay all the bills for. How could you possibly be the one who needs me? I’m nothing.”

It hurts me to hear Kit say that he is nothing. He has a lot to offer but when you have no money to your name I can see where it would burst the ego a little. Secrets…it always has the potential for relationship demise. Kit’s past would kill him and Olivia’s future may kill him but for now they have the present and for however short it is, they will enjoy it. But what about when the secrets catch up to one of them? This upcoming part was tough to read, and I mean tough. At first I tried to distance myself, but yet I couldn’t pull myself away from the words playing out right before me. I can’t imagine being an actual witness to this.

I could see his frame in the window. His breathing was harsh, his head hanging low. I could see the last remaining liquid falling out of his mouth from where he must have been sick. His wrists were bloody from the amount of straining he must have been doing against his chains. I had done this to him.

So the chains…where did they come from? Can Kit break the chains and save Olivia or will Olivia need to pull off the performance of her life in order to break Kit’s chains?

“Then you understand what’s coming?” He winced, but nodded again.

I love dark romance. I am not a fan of instalove and there was a point in the book where I felt that was the direction it was going. They didn’t even know each other’s last names and were declaring their love! Once I got past that slight irritation, the book went back to pulling me into the story and from there on out I couldn’t reach the finish fast enough.

6 Dark Stars—Sucked Me in and Won't Let Go!

*FREE via Kindle Unlimited*

"Chained" by Jaimie Roberts is every bit the SIX-STAR read I expected from the summary and various teasers. This wonderful book knocked me right off my feet and found me staring up at the ceiling wondering, "What the heck just happened?"

This book is a complete dichotomy. It's one half beautiful romance and one half unsavory mystery. In its way, it's quite beautiful:

"I sometimes found myself staring out at the birds flying in and out of the branches. I would close my eyes and listen to their sweet melody for a few moments before I would start painting. Those times were my time. Those times, I let myself be free from any expectations and any responsibilities. I could just be me." ~Olivia

Don't let that quote fool you, though...

Right around the corner we have a borderline pedophile (given that "Uncle" has been much too interested in owning this poor girl since she was much too young)!

"He was my evil savior in my darkest hour. In fact, you could easily say my soul belonged to him. He had told me that often enough. He was like the Devil himself, and he owned me ... and he made sure I knew it." ~Olivia

Though it may not fit with the flow of my review, I have to laugh at this phrase: "weapon of mass pleasure!" The good news? It's our dear Kit doing the aiming. :)

How do I explain Kit or this story without giving anything away? Well, the story spends a lot of time observing Olivia's habits. She buys drinks for her homeless friends, works at a soup kitchen, and tends bar at night (faithfully avoiding the Jack Daniels [you'll see why]). She's single with the exception of encounters with Uncle that I'll leave to the imagination by stating that they do not have a normal sexual relationship, and, in fact, he's never been with her in that way... There are, of course, other things... The creepiness factor is moderately high. No doubt about it!

"... physical pain was more bearable to me than emotional pain." ~Olivia

Kit is one of the homeless gang, though he keeps to himself, but he avoids her like the plague and won't say a single word to her. He defends her when needed and is very protective overall, but he keeps his distance...

Until he doesn't that is...

She is CRAZY to know everything about him. For a while, I thought she was TOO obsessed, actually. Don't get me wrong; he's more than sexy. The author had Josh Holloway in mind, so you can imagine! That said, he was clearly a secretive mess. Then again, so was she...

Nothing was what it seemed. Nothing. This book is one part (sadistic) mystery and one part romance. That said, that one romantic part overshadowed it all. There was a strong feeling of fate being involved here in my opinion.

Inner strength was necessary for all of the best characters in this book, and it just might be necessary for you too. I have read scarier, darker books, but this wasn't exactly a walk in the park either.

It's all well-worth the read.

Regarding Kit: "He looked so beautiful right now. His eyes foretold a thousand emotions. I could see pain. I could see happiness. I could see doubt. But, most of all, I could see desire." ~Olivia

*Trigger Warning: Sexual and physical abuse triggers may be found within these pages, so do not read this if such may set off a trigger for you. In my opinion, it's definitely tolerable, though very dark in places, for those without such triggers.*

Overall, this book sucked me in from page one, and it still hasn't seen fit to let me go! Highly Recommended!

~*~ Obsessed by books arc given in exchange for an honest review ~*~

"You. Are. Mine. Don't ever forget that, Livy. You've been mine since the day you were fucking born. Don't ever disobey me again."

Who is Uncle? Who is the Shadowman? And who exactly is Olivia? Step into a mysterious, cloak and dagger world of half truths and carefully veiled undercover plots. Smoke and mirrors with a very James Bond esque quality to this story, this is a what the hell I have just read type book. Throughout your mind is trying to piece together the jigsaw pieces to make a pretty picture that make sense but the reality is quite awe inspiringly horrific. Greed and lust over rules all decency and drives wealthy powerful men to go above and beyond all boundaries of morality to ensure they gain what they desire. Abusing their power to feed their own inflated egos lives are destroyed as if they mean nothing.

Olivia hasn't had things easy, a child of wealth and luxury she has been derived of human kindness and love by her parents who kept her at arms length. Suddenly set adrift without them after finding her father dead at his own hand with her mother passing soon after due to cancer Olivia seeks solace at the bottom of a bottle. Her addiction breaks her and Uncle steps in at her weakest. Saving her from herself Uncle becomes more than just a father figure, lines are blurred and he is her new addiction. Strangely conflicted by her emotions and wanton desires Olivia knows she is a slave to his will, completely under his control. Haunted by the Shadowman of her youth her fear of him is used to empower Olivia and she uses her need to find him to motivate her. Working at a homeless kitchen and a bar part time, she finds a surrogate family in the lost would that rely in her. One solitary man captures her interest and he quickly becomes her new addiction. Who is the man behind the facial hair with the soulful eyes that have hold so much hurt?

And so unfolds the story of a lost girl trying to find her way home to happiness. Overcoming her fears and unravelling the secrets and lies of her childhood and slaying the monsters that are determined to keep her a prisoner of her addictions. This is a cleverly crafted intriguing tale of raw passion that hits hard and deals with controversial plot lines that mange to perfectly balance the dark with the light. How can something that feels so good be so wrong? This story will tie you up in knots, have you screaming for answers and the truth really does set you free! Kit and Olivia have such a tentative beginning that soon combusts. The chemistry between them is off the charts. Uncle and his obsession with Livy is also darkly alluring and shamefully just as sizzling a definite guilty pleasure!

This is a uniquely different read that made a refreshing change. It made me think and question but equally I was cheering for Kit and Olivia as I fell in love with their love story. Ian, the guys from the homeless shelter are all really fabulous characters and I hope we see more of them.

A four and a half star mind blown read.

received an ARC of this book to review. It is well written and smooth flowing. Some of the linguistics threw me off a bit as the author and I are from different countries and write/speak differently but that didn't take away from the story.

The book flashes back and forth between memories of the past and the present (past memories are in italics). Olivia has been through so much. She is haunted by her past while she is trying to make a new life for herself. Volunteering at a soup kitchen in the morning and working as a bartender at night. Every time things start to look up for her, something will sneak up on her and try to bring her back down into a deep dark hole. She struggles on a daily basis to stay out of that dark place.

Uncle has been there for Olivia since she was a baby. As she grows up he makes sure she knows he is there for her and there to protect and take care of her. When she hits rock bottom he is there for her. Somewhere along the line, his perception of what they are to each other changes.

I fell in love with Olivia right away. She struggles with trying to overcome her past, but she is doing everything in her power to stay out of that deep dark pit. She goes out of her way to be kind to people, to brighten someone's day. She brings hot coffee and tea to some of the regulars at the soup kitchen every morning. She is a caring and loving person who just needs the right person in her life to show her how much she is really worth.

I could not stand Uncle. I found him as well as his thoughts and actions to be atrocious. I don't usually want something bad to happen to characters, but I was hoping he would be hit with a semi or some other awful fate.
