Brandon Russo can't stand the sight of blood and the current heat wave makes doing almost anything outdoors unpleasant. So when an SUV sideswipes a bicycle right at the gate of the storage facility in Burlington, Vermont, where Brandon works for his aunt, he considers just locking himself in the office and calling 911. But he's rewarded for letting his good nature overcome his squeamishness when the man he rescues from the ditch turns out to be absolutely gorgeous.
Scott Seay is a photographer on the trail of a legend. A strong lead has brought him to Vermont for the auction of a storage unit whose owner had been obsessed with Champy, the creature rumored to live in the depths of Lake Champlain. When Scott winds up in a ditch outside that very same storage facility, being rescued by a hot, chivalrous man who literally sweeps Scott into his arms ... well, Scott's always believed in fate.
Lynn Townsend is a displaced Yankee, a mother, a writer, a dreamer, and the proud owner of a small black hole residing under her desk that tends to eat kittens, odd socks, staplers, and her car keys.
Heat Wave: Burlington is a novella by Lynn Townsend, one of eighteen Heat Wave novella being released by JMS Books over the course of July and August.
Brandon Russo is having another hot, boring day at work. Scott Seay is a photographer on the trail of Champy, the lake monster said to live in Lake Champlain. Their paths intersect when Scott is knocked off his bike and Brandon is the good Samaritan who helps Scott get medical attention. An attraction sparks instantly.
I really enjoyed this fast, sweet read.
Scott (a photographer who has an open mind about things like Champy) and Brandon (working at his aunt’s storage facility) are both very likeable characters. They interact and banter well, and their attraction is believable. Alison (Brandon’s older sister and a nurse) is a great secondary character.
The setting (the storage facility, for the most part) is not one I’ve run into before in erotica, but it works surprisingly well. This is a running theme for me when it comes to Lynn’s stories–another one of my favorites of hers, Holidays Hours (from Coming Together: For the Holidays) takes place in a convenience store. She has the ability to take a unconventional setting and make it the backdrop for a sweet love story.
My only real complaint is that it’s such a short read. I’m greedy, and I like Lynn’s stories, so I always want more.
This was really cute and definitely in keeping with a short story. It's not a kinky story but there is some minor edging going on that was hot - and I enjoyed it. Perfect length for an "interlude" in the guys' lives and set up for a possible longer sequel exploring and romancing :)
This was a pretty good story, but it had a very brief HFN, and I much prefer a strong HEA. Scott gets bumped off his bike into a ditch by a car, and Brandon finds him. They have a nice connection, and over the 2 days in the book, there is room for growth between them. I would like to believe there would be more for them, but there wasn't enough here to convince me that there would be a happy ending.
This was a lovely little read. Its short but don't let that stop you.I loved the characters and their chemistry.I fell in love in 65 pages and 45 minutes.
