“Self-Hypnosis: Creating Your Own Destiny” by Henry Leo Bolduc is a classic. First published in 1985, the book contains a substantive introduction by Dr. Mark Thurston, Director of the Educational Development Division of Edgar Cayce’s Association for Research and Enlightenment (A.R.E.) at the time. The intro and first half of the book focuses on the history of hypnosis and various uses of hypnotherapy’ particularly to eliminate unwanted habits such as smoking and overeating. Many examples are given.
Bolduc has done considerable research, particularly into the work of Edgar Cayce as it relates to hypnosis, and of Milton H. Erickson. Cayce’s assertion that “Thoughts are things” is particularly relevant to the efficacy of hypnosis. The reader learns how hypnosis can be used to access the subconscious mind and to modify behavior and initiate change. While much of the initial material refers to the work of a hypnotist, the goal is to introduce the reader to self-hypnosis or auto-hypnosis and provide tools that can be used for what Bolduc calls “rut-busting.”
The second half of the book consists of describing a 3 step process for creating cassette tapes for self-hypnosis. Scripts are provided for entering self-hypnosis, waking up, and 31 scripts for “cycles” to achieve various results. This is a hands-on, nuts and bolts, self-help book that is packed with information ready to be used.
It's a little dated, I would love to see an updated edition, that's the only reason for the 4/5 stars. This is a really interesting look into self hypnosis with proven techniques and great sample scripts to use.
