Truly excellent book on how the concept of dragons has evolved over time throughout many different cultures. The book was well-researched and displayed a lot of careful investigation. It was invaluable for my senior thesis research of where and how the concept of dragons originated. Recommended to anyone interested in looking more at the concept of dragons throughout culture and their point of origin.

Тази книга е задължителна за всички драконолюбци, влюбени в легендата, които искат да си обобщят знанията за тях. Но най-вече за начинаещите. Ако сте чели много източници за драконите особено източните, може би ви била малко досадна, но това в никакъв случай не я прави излишна.

Quite an interesting book. Almost the entire history of dragons and the way they were perceived in the East is conveyed in it. I liked the different traditions, stories, beliefs, folklore and the parallels drawn between what dragons used to mean to people in Japan, China, India, Korea and, to a lesser degree, in Europian countries. I especially liked the stories about dragons, depicting both their good and bad sides.

this book was very disappointing. I knew it as soon as I saw the original copyright date. I thought there would be some great legends in this book, and there were, but at the same time, the way the author talks about many peoples, calling them savages, talking about how America is so developed, etc, was the most distracting part of this book.

Un buen inicio (el dragón en la mitología oriental), se ve opacado por la pedantería y el desdén con el que el autor trata de presentar a la cultura occidental (y sus estructuras mitológicas) como la superior de manera indiscutible. Los "salvajes" orientales y otro tipo de comentarios similares, complican gran parte de la segunda mitad del libro, y esto solo se ve salvado por los datos históricos y legendarios presentadas en la misma. Ingersoll escribe de manera que engancha cuando no se pierde en devanamientos que bien pueden haber salido de la boca de un antropólogo europeo del siglo XIX.
Recomendado para los que de verdad están interesados en el tema, si no hubiera aprendido algo con este libro, tuviera solo una estrella.

Decent enough book on dragons. I picked this up because I was like “ooooh a really old book on dragons” and sure enough I got that. Other than reading it weirdly at times, it does provide a decent short overview of dragon myths in the world. However much more comprehensive books exist now.

I would not have liked the company of the author, his dismissive arrogance and ignorance grated all the way through this book. It is well that it is only 129 pages. Perhaps the book should have remained forgotten, the best parts were the quotes of others. I am sure a much better book on the subject can be found.
