People have their limits. Some choose to ignore them.
God’s power and love have no limits. So why do Christians put limits on their relationship with Him? We could be pursuing greater knowledge, experiencing deeper intimacy, and abiding in freer joy… and yet we routinely settle for mediocrity in our spiritual lives.
But if you are ready to explode your self-imposed limits, Dr. Richard Blackaby can guide you through powerful and passionate insights revealed in this new book.
By contrasting mediocrity with the spirituality of the great “heroes of the faith,” Dr. Blackaby shows you that you need not settle for less than God intends for you. God can do extraordinary things through ordinary people like you…but only when you allow Him to enlarge your spiritual capacity and overcome your self-imposed limits.
“I hope this book inspires you to aim for a new level of walking with God. I want you to reach heights in your spiritual life that you never dreamed were possible, to experience God working through your life in a powerful new dimension, to hear words from God that will dramatically change your life and your world. I want to help you blow past any limitations you have set for yourself in your Christian life.” —Dr. Richard Blackaby
Richard is the president of Blackaby Ministries International where he works with his father Henry, brother Tom, and other family members to help people experience God. Richard speaks internationally, working especially with leaders of churches, organizations, companies, and families.
Richard earned a B.A. in history from the University of Saskatchewan. He has an M.Div and Ph.D. in church history from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and an honorary doctorate from Dallas Baptist University.

I didn't realize how complacent I had become in my walk with God until I read this book. Every chapter, almost every page spoke to me in a deeply personal way and restored to me a longing for more of God. Richard Blackaby, the son of Henry who wrote Experiencing God, wrote with humor and depth of insight, and the truths he spoke of stayed in my head all day as I read the book. It's a Your-God-Is-Too-Small and a Nearer-My-God-to-Thee kind of book that I want to buy many copies of so that I can give them to other people whose hearts yearn for more.
I don’t know which grabbed my attention the most, the intriguing title or the chapter titles that explode the imagination. I know this. It’s easy for me to gravitate to a book that resonates with a desire already stirring in my heart. I’m excited to see books like this in the marketplace. As the world continues its push against the light of Jesus, nominal Christianity is being swallowed up by it. Even churches with all the glitz and glitter are being filled with followers who are there for the show more than for perfecting the image of Christ for the lost to see.
Blackaby enters the ring swinging. Before starting into his teaching on experiencing greater nearness, power, joy; his introduction establishes that the fault for lacking in these areas does not lie with God. When we say we want more of Jesus in our lives, that is God’s very heart and purpose. So why doesn’t it happen? We have things we aren’t willing to give up to make room for him. (Now don’t think for a moment that I have given you a spoiler. That is just one general statement. Blackaby excels in getting much more personal.) I know I must put this on my read-again list. Life pressures had me reading with the mindset to just get through it at times, but those times when I felt challenged or released assure me there’s more I can gain by going back. If you feel there’s something missing in your walk with Jesus, if you feel you’ve reached a plateau—or worse, stagnant—in experiencing the wellspring of life, the joy, the abundant life that Jesus promised; then read this book. It will open doors in your heart.
Great book! In the past, I haven't read much Christian books (other than my bible, Our Daily Bread and other devotional books) and this was the first that really caught my attention. I'm glad I found this book because it has made me realize so many things about my faith and how I can walk further with God. I love how Pastor Richard's writing is so personal, reading the book felt like talking to a spiritual mentor.
Unlimiting God has so many wonderful words of wisdom and I'm grateful that I encountered this book at a time that I really needed it for my faith. It's a short book and the reason why I it took me so long to finish this was because I kept on re-reading some parts and been using them for my journal reflections. I hope this book touches more lives! 💖
Could I have slacked off even more? Such a short and insightful book yet it took me more than a year to finish when I breeze through fiction novels in the span of days. This book convicted me that I do need an increase in faith, a fresh encounter with God, and a renewal of the heart. I promise to give more time and importance to books like this one since they not only feed the mind but also my soul, something a fiction novel can never do.
May this year be the year that I finally start unlimiting God.
“The problem is never with God. The obstacle is us. We’re far too easily satisfied. We limit God in our lives.” If that statement lights a fire inside of you and touches a part of your soul that longs desperately for more of God in your life, you need to buy this book immediately. It will stir up your faith on a level with only the greatest spiritual books I’ve ever read. This is one of my new all-time favorites!
Favorite Quote: “God doesn’t grant large assignments to small characters.”
I love how Dr. Richard Blackaby puts things so plainly. He makes it clear how we can remove the obstacles holding us back from the work that God wants to do in our lives. I recommend this to anyone seeking more of God and anyone who's hit a plateau in their walk with Him.
Excellent read that reminds us that many times it is us that limits God. God knows no limits and can do all things, but do we always believe that? Is our faith as big as our God? The author guides us to a deeper faith in our walk with God.
We are the ceiling to God’s amazing work in our lives and this book does a great job to open our eyes to this truth and then what we can to unlimit God in our lives.
Very good book. It's subtlety to speak to your heart was refreshing and each chapter opened insights into the nature of our loving and persistent God. It inspired me in unexpected ways.
4.8 - really good book. lots of Truths that helps remember and make the path that draws to Gid straight and clear again when the world tries to blur and take hold of everything. good and easy read.
Blackaby has some great insights that I really enjoyed reading throughout this book. I wrote tons of notes in the margins as so many aspects applied to my life. The reality of this book and much of what is contained within is in the line that says "Since God is constant, the difference [in our relationship, engagement, connectedness to God] always lies with his people." [my added comments to understand the context] This was also pretty challenging in recognizing that it really is up to me to take the steps necessary to gain the closer relationship with God...and that no one but me can do it. God wants it and is waiting for me...am I willing to do it, or will I be appeased with the current relationship I have?
Another timely and relevant book to my life. An inspiration to really increase my faith and stretch myself beyond my limits. It also provides practical tips on how to apply in my life the lesson that God is currently working on my life.
One of the lessons that I believe God is teaching me (and perhaps challenging me) lately is to apply in my life the truth and principles of the parable of the new wine and new wineskins (Matt 9:17; Mark 2:22; Luke 5:37-39). The parable says 'no one pours an old wine into new wineskins, otherwise the wineskins will burst and be ruined'.
This book has basically articulated the meaning of that passage to my life.
Wonderful book!!! Makes one think outside the box. The Lord does not work in our comfort zone. Does make you stop and pray for more of Him and less of you. :)
