Phoenix Crossing

Rate this book
She’ll commit the ultimate betrayal to save those she loves….

Xandra was forged in the fires of heaven’s nemesis and sharpened by humanity’s executioners. As a child, she failed to protect her little sister. With Riles located, Xandra will do anything to save her—even if it means committing the ultimate crime. Forced into a perilous situation, she’s drawn to the Alpha wolf shadowing her every move. Trust comes with a high price—one she’s paid too many times to count. But the sexy man her inner beasts desire refuses to give up.

The half-phoenix, half-angel was an assignment at first, a potential threat to the campus pack Lane had assumed leadership of. The longer he follows her, the more his wolf is drawn to protect her. Frustrated with her inability to trust him and his pack, he’ll do anything to keep her safe. Claiming the curvaceous hellion would be simple, but he’s determined to win the trust of the warrior beasts within her.

Phoenix Crossing (ROAR, #9)
by Cara Carnes

This story has maniacle king, who also happens to be Xandra's uncle and his equally maniacle son. A mother that had no business being a mother. A father that failed at being a father. A sister that is a keeper and her mate. A sweet heart of a room mate. A half demon, half vampire, baddy that you want on your side. And of course, the hottie wolf shifter, that every woman wants.

This story had me wishing I was a phoenix so I could zap Xandra's uncle and cousin and lets not forget her mother. But, I could see myself becoming friends with Vira. There is lots of action and plenty of lovin.

There is a lot going on in this story. I couldn't stop reading until I was done.

Phoenix Crossing by Cara Carnes is actually book 9 in the Roar series written by several different authors. It gives us the story of Zandra and Lane.

Phoenix Crossing takes place shortly after Phoenix Rising both written by Ms. Carnes. Though you don't have to read Phoenix Rising first I do recommend it.

Zandra and Riles are halfling's - part phoenix and part angel. In order to protect her sister from King Lucian, Zandra does as their uncle demands of her. All the while waiting for the right moment to rid destroy him. To this end Shifters also have come together to protect other realms from being taken over by Zandra's uncle. Which is were Lane who is a wolf shifter comes in. Lane also seeks to protect Riles and his pact. So he has taken it on himself to follow Zandra with the plan of keeping her from doing anything that might hurt is pack. But the more he watches her the more he begins to recognize that she is his. Problem with that is she doesn't trust anyone. Zandra feels responsible for her sister Riles. She was unable to protect her from their mother selling her to the Shifters and knows that Riles was put through hell from the shifters growing up. While Zandra was being trained by Angels and Phoenix.

This book is intriguing, suspenseful, exciting, fast paced and very well written. Zandra is spunky, strong, smart and determined. Lane is the perfect Alpha wolf - sexy, strong, caring, loyal, protective and smoking hot. The characters are wonderfully thought out. You can't help but cheer them on. And if that isn't enough the book is full of angels, demons, vampires, Wolves and phoenix. I believe that you will find everything you are looking for in this book.

I highly recommend it.

Xandra is a complicated individual. Part phoenix and part angel, she has never felt accepted by either race. She is punished for her not protecting her younger sister by being given away by her mother. She survives the abuse and only lives to protect her sister. Her interaction with her mother is very enlightening. Lane is a shifter and knows Xandra is keeping secrets from them all. He doesn't understand why she won't train her sister. He refuses to lose her.

I had not read the other book featuring her sister and jumped right into the series. I really enjoyed the story. I liked the fact that Xandra was written as a really developed character with lots of nuances. Her past is shared and explains why she feels so focused on her sister. She is strong but has been through so much emotional and physical pain that it is hard for her to believe in a happily ever after. Lane is a great partner for her and you do see the depth to his feelings. He is willing to risk his pack because he believes so strongly in her. Those he loves get his full support. Xandra may not understand that kind of love and support but she does appreciate it for being rare and special. I received a copy in return for a honest review.

Phoenix Crossing takes place shortly after Phoenix Rising. While Phoenix Rising tore my heart out Phoenix Crossing took it out stomped on it and put it through a shredder just to piece it back together with a feel good ending.
Xandra feels responsible for Riles horrid childhood not realizing that hers was just as bad in a different way. As mixed breed children of parents that weren’t supposed to mate let alone procreate Xandra and Riles are special and stronger than they realize. While Riles was going through hell on earth with the shifters Xandra was defying the odds and training with Angels and Phoenix. Her uncle is King of the Phoenix and he hates/fears her but it doesn’t keep him from using her. Enter Lane campus pack alpha. He needs to keep an eye on the unknown halfling not only to keep his pack and Riles safe but because his wolf just won’t let him do otherwise.
This story is well written and fast paced. It will keep you riveted from the first page to the last.

Wow! Just Wow!
This is not the first book in this series, and while it was very good, I did feel that I was missing out a bit because I didn't read the first in the series. I am definitely going to go back to the beginning and read though because I really loved this story. It was totally captivating and very exciting. It's a fast paced, thrilling ride that I didn't want to put down. Half Phoenix - half Angel? Yes please! The plot and characters are very well written. I haven't read anything like this and I definitely recommend it. Though as you might guess I would recommend that you start at the beginning of the series. I was given a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I was given a complimentary copy for an honest review by author Cara Carnes.

Xandra could not protect her sister when she was younger but now she will do whatever it takes to save her sister Riles. Lane was just doing his job by watching Xandra but as time went by it became more then that. His wolf wanted to protect her no matter what but she did not want to trust him even if he was sex on a stick. Can he prove himself to her and his pack or will it be for nothing.

This book has a great story line and wonderful characters for any reader to enjoy. I loved Xandra because she is feisty and does not come off as being weak. The author gave the characters very good interaction.

This book is for any mature erotic paranormal romance book reader who likes more in their stories.

I haven't read any of the ROAR books before. That being said, at times I did feel lost. There was a lot talked about that I'm assuming happened in other books. But, it was still a great read! I really likes Xan. She was put in a tough spot. Her family gave her impossible decisions. Who to save? This was an exciting book to read. Lane, mmm, he's a sexy wolf! His character was strong and I enjoyed him very much. This is a great suspenseful story, but romantic at the same time. It's a hot sexy read that anyone can enjoy! I'm definitely looking forward to going back and reading the rest of this series.

Wow! This is a great series. Fast paced storyline with tons of spinoff possibilities. Characters are solid hardcore yet lovable. Shifters banding together to protect other realms from being taken over by Xandras uncle, King Lucian. In order to protect her sister, she does her uncles bidding until she can find the right time to take him down. On her quest she is drawn to Lane an alpha wolf. Fates have thrown them together, can they make it work after the fallout? Can only hope this series continues!

Thanks to the author for the ARC in exchange for a honest review.

Wow! I have to say that this book is one exciting ride. I loved reading Xandra's story. Ms. Carnes hooks you from the first chapter and doesn't let you go until the end. One of the most exciting and nail biting books I have read all year. Looks like there might be more to Riles story someday. I really hope so!
