Yetis seem to have come into vogue for picture books, as evidenced by NO YETI YET by Mary Ann Fraser. Two brothers go on a wintery search to photograph a yeti; the older brother more enthusiastically than the younger. As they hike, older brother answers questions about yetis. The observant reader will note they are being trailed by the very object of their search. The illustrations make it clear the yeti is friendly, not threatening. When they finally meet, the boys panic, drop their camera, and flee home, pursued by the yeti. When the yeti arrives at their door, the boys realize he was just returning their fallen camera, and reward him with some hot cocoa.

The story is charming and the illustrations loaded with subtle humor. What little child wouldn’t want to have a friendly yeti over for cocoa? I know I would.

No Yeti Yet is an exciting story about two brothers that go in search of a yeti and find exactly what they're looking for!

This book is perfect for the winter season! It starts out with the brothers dressing up in their warmest clothes and heading out into the snow. They cross the frozen landscape and even push on through a blizzard! And of course, we have the perfect elusive winter creature as the main focus of the story!

My daughter adores this book. It reminds me of 'We're Going On A Bear Hunt' with the quest and romp through the wilderness in search of something, finding it, and then returning in a hurry! This one has fewer siblings and no parent, but it's just as fun! My daughter loves searching for the yeti in each picture and especially loves the cozy, happy ending!

A delightful and beautifully illustrated picture book about two little brothers going in search of a Yeti one cold winter's day. The major book review sources (School Library Journal, Booklist, Publishers Weekly) gave it terrific reviews. I am happy to say that I own an autographed copy that I purchased at one of Mary Ann Fraser's book signings. This book is perfect for story time for ages 3 to 8! I plan to do a snow-themed story time in January and this will be one of the books that I read.

Cute. A little slow, but I'm thinking asking them to point out the Yeti might make that up. I like that you can tie it in with senses and general winter 'feels'

Since they describe what they're looking for it might get a little less of a 'what is a Yeti' response than some of the other recent Yeti and Bigfoot picture books.

After reading No Yeti Yet, I learned that these fun little adventures allow the students to keep on guessing of what is going to happen next. The illustrations allow the students to use their own imagination of what they could do on a snow day. This is a perfect book for the start of the winter season because it allows the students to be thinking of their own experiences and relating them to what they are learning in the classroom. Within the book, there are little hidden places where the book shows the Yeti, as the children are trying to find the yeti. This can also be a good idea to help the students give them ideas of how they can use clues of trying to find an item they may have lost and want to find it. As an activity, I would suggest doing a scavenger hunt for the students to learn how to find the items within the classroom or outside if the weather is warm enough. This will allow them to use critical thinking skills and be engaged by the book and the message behind it.

Hunting for yeti? Sure, that's a fine way for a pair of brothers to spend a snowy day.

(At least, if you weren't their Mom. But no grownups sully their home.)

This story is a grand adventure. Suspense builds and builds, and there's one Flash-of-Recognition moment that's just hilarious. (The hilarity helped by the fabulous drawing by Mary Ann Fraser, who is also the author.)

Wonderful, wonderful ending, too. (Not that I'm going to do a spoiler, no no!) My job is to review and to give a rating. FIVE STARS does it.

A library book that we re-read every night! Two brothers go on a hunt to find a yeti. The book describes what a yeti looks like, sounds like, smells like, and on each page leading up to the cave, you can find the yeti hiding on the pages. We had fun looking for the yeti and then seeing at the end, the three being friends.

“It’s a perfect day for a yeti hunt.” Two siblings go in search of a yeti. They enjoy sledding and skating and exploring while discussing what a yeti will look and smell like. But when a yeti chases them all the way home, they have no choice but to invite him in for cocoa. Very cute word choice and language.

Fantastic illustrations help tell the story of two brothers who go on a search to find a yeti. As the little brother asks the big brother all about yetis (to be sure he'll recognize it), readers can find the hidden yeti on every spread. This is a fun group read aloud with lots of opportunities to be interactive.

This proved to be a good storytime read-aloud! Children enjoy seeing the yeti on the page before it's discovered by the two main characters. It's also nice to run across a friendly yeti on a cold, snowy day!

Adorable story about two kids who go out on a snowy day, a perfect day for a yeti hunt, discussing all the while what a yeti is like. All the while the yeti is following them, and he winds up coming in for hot cocoa. Precious illustrations from the author.

Awwww, it's a cute story! Reminds me a little bit of "Going On A Bear Hunt," but I like this one better.
(Also, the Yeti reminds me of the Bumble from Rudolph, so that's exciting!)

No Yeti Yet is a picturebook by Mary Ann Fraser. It's a snowy, blowy, wintry day which one big brother thinks is just perfect for a yeti hunt! The younger brother is not as convinced and his questions abound. Have you ever seen a yeti? Is a yeti strong? Can a yeti run fast? The big brother’s answers and the readers search for the yeti make the book interactive and enjoyable.

No Yeti Yet is a fun and entertaining story. I love how the older brother is attempting to ‘teach’ his younger brother while also appearing to be smarter and stronger than he might actually feel. This feels very true for sibling relationships, older siblings always want to be more or better than their younger siblings- even when it is with good intentions. I really liked how each page has a hidden yeti that readers can enjoy searching for and finding. A hunt for the brothers and readers alike. The younger brother proves himself stronger and more observant than his older brother, and there is a happy ending for the brothers and yeti alike.

No Yeti Yet is an entertain interactive picture book that will delight readers. Readers that enjoy seek and finds will enjoy hunting for the yeti on each page, and the idea of searching for the signs of him in the landscape. The sibling relationship and trek through the snow will capture the imagination of most readers, and the artwork is a perfect pairing with the story and its mood.

Children's book #6

Summary
A boy and his older brother go on a search to find a yeti. A yeti is a giant snow monster, but whether it is friendly or not the boys are unsure. Their ultimate goal is to snap a picture if they see one. Eventually, they come across one and quickly take a photo. When they arrive home, the camera is no where to be found. They look out the window and see the yeti holding the camera, so they invite it in for a cup of hot cocoa.

Activity
Throughout the book, many similes are used to describe the yeti, such as "like a snow-covered tree" and "like the whirly wind." First, teach the students about similes and explain to them that they use the words "like" or "as" to describe something. Have the students create three of their own similes relating to their favorite season. For example, if their favorite season is summer, they could say "the pool felt like ice when I jumped in."

This. Is. Adorable. So much fun. The all-dialogue text is precise and true to the age and relationship of the sibling characters. The page turns play to a child's curiosity and wanting to read on. This will prompt a child to reread this one over and over again and also want to read it alone or even with a friend or a sibling. (They could each read a part!) So. Much. Fun! I love the subplot in the pictures and how the reader is in on a secret that the characters don't know about. Near the end, the brother is in on a secret that the other doesn't know. So much suspense and the illustrations are perfect in every way. I love the color selections, the scenery, and the expressions on the character's faces that complement the character development. Interplay between text and illustrations is at an all-time high!

Mary Ann Fraser's delightful No Yeti Yet tells the tale of two brothers on the search for a Yeti! When Big Brother wants to find a Yeti, little brother tags along and asks question after question about the elusive Yeti. And, of course, his big brother is happy to share his Yeti wisdom.

No Yeti Yet is a simply endearing and fun story from beginning to end! Little readers will have a blast learning all about the wild Yeti and joining the two lovable brothers on their big adventure. With sparse, yet witty, text, Fraser conveys so much humor and excitement. And Fraser's gorgeous illustrations are full of wintry colors and charming scenes. Readers will love spying the hidden Yeti in each scene.

No Yeti Yet has a wonderful surprise ending that readers will love!

Brothers go out on a snowy day to find a yeti. The younger brothers asks a lot of questions about what yetis look like, sound like, smell like. And even though a yeti is nearby the boys don’t see him while they’re playing in the snow. Then in a deep dark cave they finally come face to face with a yeti. They are so scared, the older brother drops his camera, and they run all the way home with the yeti close behind them. The yeti finally catches up with them and the younger brother invites him into the house for a cup of hot cocoa to thank him for returning their camera.

What’s not to love about this adorable picture book? Humor, adventure, and finding the hidden yeti on each page make No Yeti Yet a delight to read with kids.

Two little boys decide to go on a yeti hunt. Along the way, they discuss what a yeti looks like, smells like, and sounds like, but meeting a real yeti is a much different experience than either of them anticipated. Mary Ann Fraser’s illustrations add spark and personality to the story. Fans of winter, humor, and mythological monsters will love this book. Now I have just one question…

Can you find the yeti?

The premise is a delight and the visual cues/hints/humor begins on the book jacket and endpapers. Charming illustrations with suitably cool tones are perfect for the parallel wordless story yeti is trying to tell.

A side note involves the many ways this could see as mentor text for effective writing. Word-play involving rhymes, modified word forms, figurative language, sensory elements can be demonstrated on nearly every page. Add to that the effective use of dialogue, Q/A patterns, repetition of language followed by surprise, and this book will be referenced often by wise teachers.
