Beast, A Dark Werewolf Fairytale Romance

“Don’t bother. It’s locked. There’s no way out of here. Even if you did get out, we’re surrounded by the forest. Please, don’t run, Belle. Don’t make me set the dogs free.”

The drug on my lips linger, and the memory of my freedom slips further away while he drones. I thought I was free, hitchhiking along the Midnight Mountain Range, running from those I loved, and their betrayal. Now I’m trapped in a nightmare. One filled with betrayal, lust and a beast. That’s his story, about a beast that’s waiting for me. I try not to listen and plan my escape. But the savage howls from somewhere underneath this room makes me whimper in fear. Through the grimy windows, endless pine trees are all I can see.

“He’s going to fall in love with you, I just know he will,” Mark says. The beast below isn’t the only one in this house. I’ve fought to survive before and I’ll fight again. Maybe this time, I’ll win.

I have been an avid reader for longer than I can remember, desiring the darker, edgier works of Bram Stoker, Stephen King, Dean Koontz. I first started writing in High School giving that away when my first attempt was nothing more than dribble. I wish now that I kept at it, pursued it with a hunger that I currently possess.

Writing is my passion, it is what fuels the fires inside of me and it is an all-or-nothing furnace that keeps me up at all hours.

I am married to a wonderful supportive husband, I have 2 wonderful kids and the best friends that I have waited some 35 odd years to meet.

Modern-day spin of one of my favorites,
Beauty and The Beast. A mix of dark themes, and a bit supernatural. I loved the premise, but it just didn't hit the mark for me. Unfortunately I didn't connect with the main character or the story, it was missing that certain "it" thing to keep me interested. I had high hopes for this one too, sadly by the end I was disappointed. Had the characters been more developed, my feelings would have been different, I don't think there were enough pages written for any connection to happen, the story too short to really leave that lasting impression.

One things for certain, Kim Faulks writes beautifully, her words flow effortlessly. I loved the modern twists.

From the very first sentence I was swept away and completely mesmerized. A modern, dark retelling of Beauty and the Beast, the words flowed over the page like a classic fairy tale, with just enough nuances to keep you in the present. The amount of detail put into every single sentence blew me away. I couldn't stop reading and actually began reading quicker and quicker until I was devouring this story sliding my finger over my kindle screen as fast as I could.
This retelling is nothing like the original. Keeping enough elements for you to know it was Beauty and the Beast, Beast takes on a life of it's own breathing new possibilities into an old tale.

Anna wakes up confused and in an unknown place. Confronted by her kidnapper that called her by the name of Belle, she's told a story she doesn't understand and given very little time to acclimate herself to what is is to come.

"I wasn't that girl who cried, or played dumb, leaving others to pave their way in this world. I was the loner, the soldier. I was the survivor. But as the green sea wavered outside of the window, I realized I was none of those things now. I was captive."

The floorboards shake with roaring, terrifying her. Her captive takes her out of her room and she attempts escaping him running further into the dilapidated house. Her captor yells after her,

"...Don't listen to it. Don't listen to this goddamn house."

From here till the end of the book you are enraptured. There isn't one dull moment. The house begins to give up secrets and it's almost as if Anna is working through a labyrinth physically and mentally. At times thinking she's imagining another person is in the room with her touching her. She begins to learn who the "beast" is and understands what happened. It's easy for her to empathize with him because she has a dark place within herself. Always being alone and unloved, she yearns for the same things. And when she finds out the full story and what could happen to her, she has a choice to make. Live or die.

I absolutely loved this book. I loved the characters in it...all of them. The depth to the characters, the descriptions, the detail to plot, the damn twists and turns had me devouring every word like a man dying of thirst. This book is a must a read. For all of you who follow my reviews, you know that I don't give fives stars often. Buy this book. Make sure you have nothing planned for the day because you will want to sit and devour it. And when you are done you will never, NEVER look at Belle and the Beast in the same light ever again.

A dark tale of a promise, greed, betrayal & love. This isn't your regular Beauty & The Beast, this is so much more! I was hooked from the start, every sentence kept me on edge with the need to know all & I loved every second of it!

Anna is a fighter a survivor & when she wakes she is in a strange place confronted by the man, Mark, who has trapped her there & is insisting in not only calling her Belle but also telling her a story of love lost she is left confused & scared, but she will not bow down & take it, no, she will find a way out of whatever nightmare she thinks she's in but... not everything is as it seems. Are you ready?

Kim Faulks did an outstanding job with this story & I will definitely be recommending it to my friends & family... As should you.

GIVE ME MORE! I LOVED this dark twist to the classic Beauty and the Beast entitled "BEAST" by the brilliant Kim Faulks. She NEVER fails to deliver an amazing book whether it be a remake of a classic child's tale or something brand new. It's so not what you're thinking though! I simply can't get enough of this amazing author. The best news is this is the first of a series! A cross genre book all PNR fans will love. Can be read as a stand alone but I guarantee you won't want to stop with this one! Packed full of drama, action and danger, Beast grabs your attention from the very first page! I'm extremely excited to see the next book in this collection!

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was a short quick read about a modern day dark retelling of Beauty and the Beast. Anna wakes up confused and in an unknown place. Confronted by her kidnapper that calles her Belle she's told a story she doesn't understand and given very little time to herself to undetstand what's is is to come. This book was almost horror a genre that I do not read. The beast was a sadist and while a few of the sex scenes were hot. This was my first time reading this author the book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling.

This was gorgeously written, but impossible to understand. With so much beautiful description, it was odd that I could quite never picture what was happening. I got the broad strokes though, enough to basically follow along, but overall I was unsatisfied with this. I would have loved a concrete explanation. The ending was abrupt and did not wrap up the story at all.

Interesting twist on Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella. I was a little confused when I first started reading the book, but I will do my best to break down the story. It started with Anna waking up and finding that she has been imprisoned by someone named Mark (Gaston?) and he plans to give her to someone.

The story goes back and forth, past and present.

Then it appears that Anna becomes the "fly on the wall" is a Ebeneezer Scrooge type portion of the book where she finds out the story of the Lord of the manor and Belle. Belle has 2 sisters who aren't as pretty but dear old dad cares more about what happens with Belle. She has fallen for a thief/rogue (Mark, I think). Dad tries to convince the guy to leave Belle and not marry her because dad knows its for the money. The guy says no.

Dad goes to the woods and makes a deal with the creature/beast that promises Belle to the beast. The fiance doesn't want to loose Belle, so he makes a deal with the creature to find him a replacement "Belle". I think as some point her sisters and their spouses are poisoned at the beast's manor by Mark, and some other confusing stuff.

They eventually we stay in the present. Mark serves Anna to the beast who has been chained in a room. She lives with him for weeks before she has given up on living and lets the beast do what he wants. FINALLY, the adult content starts.

As you can see by my review, it didn't keep my interest as well as I had hoped. Mainly due to all the back and forth with timelines. It gets 3 stars from the moment Anna is tossed to the beast.

This book is beautifully written. I like the story, the modern twist of the plot and the main character, also the dark/horror atmosphere the writer has been able to portray. The only problem is that it ends too soon. I was disappointed by the ending, I think that the last part of the plot should have been more developed. But I still recommend it, because this book is a very interesting retelling of Beauty and the Beast, and once I started, I could not stop reading it to get to the end of the story.

I really wanted to like this book but it took so many twists and turns it was hard to follow. It also left a lot of explanation about the characters out that made for huge cliffhangers and left you wondering about the ending of the story. Lots of build up and then it’s like someone removed the last chapter that finished the book.

I’m not normally a fan of the author’s vague and confusing writing style, but here it worked to enhance Anna’s terror as she struggles to understand what is happening to her. Drugged, kidnapped, assaulted and starved, if anyone deserves to be bewildered, it’s poor Anna. A very dark interpretation of Beauty and the Beast.

Well I felt we had a little Beauty and the Beast Retelling here. While I love the Beauty and Beast story I think sometimes it is a little strange when authors write a comparable story but then I wish it was the real thing. I liked the story just thought it was a little boring.

Just okay

The story was just okay. A reviewer talked about a huge twist at the end, but I didn't see one here. It was in fact pretty predictable. The end was abrupt without letting us know what happens next. Kind of left things up in the air

4.5 round-up, really enjoyed

A short but explosive story of a woman dragged into a world not of her own but has a chance to change it by will of wanting it. Will she run when she gets the chance or will she make right the past?

Different Kind if read

So from the start this book was different. It’s a mix of slight horror and forbidden romance. It was kind of confusing to read but if you paid attention it kind of made sense. The book ended at 86%.

I wish the book would have had more detail and went deeper into the story. I gave 3 stars due to the sheer determination the MC “Anna” had

World Building: This story took place in a decrepit old mansion, in the middle of a forest.
Characters: The main characters of this story were Mark, Anna, and the Beast. Anna only wants to survive the night and her captors, the Beast is more than meets the eye, and Mark is not who he seems. These characters could have been more developed if this novella ended up being a novel instead. I would have liked to see where a full length novel could have taken this story.
Plot: This ended up being a pretty convoluted story for only being about 89 pages. As Anna’s storyline is going on about how she is now trapped in this dungeon with the beast a subsequent storyline is going on about what had happened in the past and why things are the way they are now. It was like a ghost story in addition to a fairy tale retelling story.
Writing: This novella was told in first person point of view of Anna. It would’ve been so freaking cool if the Beast’s perspective was included as well. My main issue with the story was that I didn’t think all my questions were answered in the end. I really like having all the information laid out for me instead of me inferring what really happened or what would happen next.
Curb Appeal: The cover is pretty cool and really sums up the story. I love that both the hero and heroine are present in the cover. The blurb is what piqued my interest made me think that this story was going to be completely different than what it was.
Ultimately: This was a lot different than I was expecting it to be. I was really expecting less of a story line and just more sex scenes than anything else. But it turned out to be way more in depth than I originally thought. If you are in the mood for an intense and quick fairy tale retelling that has a couple of sex scenes thrown in then come check out Beast!

A wild walk on the dark side.

Beast wasn’t quite what I expected. I knew going in that it was a dark romantic rendition of Beauty and the Beast. For some reason I had this expectation that Beast would be about a total alpha into BDSM or something of the sort. I knew from the blurb that Anna was kidnapped. What I didn’t expect was that she was kidnapped by the hunter not the beast and he was in fact the one with a sadistic streak. The tale was chock full of twists on my expectations and even more twists on the traditional tale. It was a short read and easily finished in one sitting, a good thing because it was very engaging and hard to put down.

While engaging the story was a little disappointing in the lack of face time you actually got with Anna and Lord Bete, the Beast. The few times they were together through the beginning to middle of the book were filled with fear and an undeniable sexual arousal. It wasn’t until the end that they actually had any real time to come together and then things were fast, hot and animalistic. The only thing that made this totally okay was the journey Anna took into the past and what was revealed to her about his character. On the other hand, the story concentrated more on the history of the father, Belle and the hunter. The dark feel to the story was redolent of a gothic romance. Ms. Faulks definitely knows how to paint a picture with words.

All and all Ms. Faulks has a great writing style. Her pacing was fast and steady giving the book a sense of urgency and impending threat. She writes an engaging tale and I’d recommend it to anyone that likes a walk on the dark side with their paranormal. I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review.

This isn't the genre of book I normally read. I usually read books about people in relationships. I also like dark books. This book had a dark element but not with the usual relationship.
Anna is propelled back in time to witness a tragic point in a father's life. Two of his three daughters are married. His third daughter is in love with a very sadistic man who secretly tortures women. The father discovers this by accident and runs to the only one who can help him.
The beast has known the father since he was a young boy and he begs the beast to help him save his daughter. The beast agrees, but only if he can have the daughter for himself.
Anna is silently watching everything unfold as if she is a ghost. She can't stop or help anyone while she is trying to keep herself save from an unseen threat.
Something is hiding in the shadows whispering to her. Anna doesn't know if she should listen or not. She is feeling out of control and helpless to save herself.
This was a different storyline that I haven't seen. It is a story without a lot of intimacy or sex, BUT, I have to state that the intimacy with the beast may surprise you so be mindful of it going in.
This was a very detailed book that left nothing unexplained, so I felt it was complete.
If you liked Beauty and the Beast and a mystery, you should enjoy this book.

a very dark adaptation of beauty and the beast. set in the now a young woman is kidnapped and forced to stay in a dungeon, knowing there is some kind of beast with her. her captor is telling the beast will come to love her. confused and scared, she doesn't really know what is real anymore, specially when she appears to fall asleep and through dreams and visions is told the story of Belle and the man know as the beast.
weeks pass and her captor is surprised she's still alive. it seems she wasn't first in this dungeon, but is the first to last as long as she has. her fear is almost gone and it's only when she shows her unconditional trust in the beast that the curse that was put upon him gets lifted.
how will they handle her captor? what happens to the real Belle? if you like dark and gritty you can pick up this book and read yourself.
i would have loved it if the story was fleshed out more, there were so many opportunities to make it shine, even as dark as this story is. the abrupt ending wasn't 100% to my liking, would have appreciated a bit more story telling to make the ending more lasting. a small added epilogue could have done that set a few months down the line.

This as a very dark, complicated, but interesting story.

Anna is in and out of a dream state and suffering in both. She has lived in a state of hurt for a very long time, but none as excruciating as this one.
In her dreams she discovers the truth of The Beast. Who the true beast is and the sacrifice The Beast makes for friendship. Will she live long enough to break herself out of this dream state, or will she be sacrificed to The Beast only to finally free him and herself?

This is book that will keep you riveted till the end, it certainly did me.

I must admit this was far darker then I expected. Very well told....darker side of erotic and love.
As the story started I was drawn in by the way the author told the story. I was instantly involved in what was happening to Anna. I couldn't put the book down. The story telling alone makes this a terrific read for me.
This bordered as well. The beast is both man and beast and it hits on a level I nearly cringed begging the author to turn him human....when she finally did I was not only relieved... but found it both beautiful and horrific how well the events...feelings...descriptions matched the character's and the story. This is dark. This is erotic. This is both man and beast.

Loved this short twisted take on Beauty of the Beast. It was strange and creepy with a house that remembers it's secrets and ghosts that haunt its halls. The twist with Belle and her suitor was new and interesting for me. Without giving out too much info and ruining the story it goes from the past to the present so you know the whole story. The only thing I wish was that there was more story I wanted to know more about the characters. All in all, it was a pretty cool story with an interesting take on an old favorite and a heroine that refuses to be beat.

Interesting premise, good writing, not so great editing

A remake of a classic 'dark' fairytale, Faulks came up with an interesting twist, and quite a few scary, creepy scenes. Too many of which I got knocked out of by bad use of, and too heavy reliance on, spellcheck, most likely. Like chocking instead of choking, leaving the word hand out of the sentence describing how the head fell. Really, REALLY needs another editor to take a pass--fresh eyes are truly necessary for that final QC check.

I was hooked!
I don't know what to say; this feels like a meld of Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, and maybe Hansel and Gretel with a few others throws in, but Kim Faulks has come up with a new and a very enticing storyline - I had to finish it, early in the morning! I do know someone like Anna, too. Satisfying if slightly bloody ending. If you like dark drama, with a little sex thrown in, this would be for you.

It's the New Year and I can't bring myself to even finish this short story--I'm a few books behind schedule. Granted, I found the writing to be great (descriptive) but the execution (story telling) lacking. It simply couldn't hold my interest. And my attention span these days is rather short. Three chapters in, nothing much happened. And it only has 10 chapters.

Goodness, this is supposed to be my beloved B&B!

This was the first book I have read from Kim Faulks. I can honestly say I'm very pleased. Beast is is exciting, it kept me glued my kindle. It had its sweet moments and it's very dark. The story is very well written and I can't wait to read more from this talented author in the future
