Maddie Graves Mystery #4

Grave Misgivings

Rate this book
The Fourth of July holiday is almost upon them, and Maddie Graves and Nick Winters are celebrating with a high school reunion.

Nick is excited, while Maddie is more ... reticent. Bad memories and old insecurities are warring with her happy life and future. Instead of giving into her fears, though, Maddie agrees to spend the weekend at the infamous Denton mansion with a group of former classmates.

The weekend is filled with more than reminiscing, though.

The former lady of the house, Rose Denton, still haunts the property - and she's not the only one. There's also a pesky poltergeist on the hunt.

When Nick's former girlfriend goes missing, everyone is a suspect. It seems someone from Blackstone Bay's Class of 2005 might be a murderer - or something even worse.

Maddie and Nick are stuck. They know they're in danger if they stay, and yet they can't leave until fifty years worth of mysteries are solved - and Cassidy Dunham is found.

When things come to a head, Maddie is in danger again - and this time the enemy was one she didn't see coming.

Can Nick solve the mystery in time to save Maddie? And can a long-tortured soul finally find rest?

By the time fireworks hit the sky, both of those questions will be answered - and a whole lot more will come to light.

This series is one of my least favourite of Lily Harper Hart’s series’ but I didn’t mind this instalment. In many ways it reminded of a similar instalment from the Author’s Harper Harlow series with the story set up of going away to stay in the castle like house and seeing a ghost just before a storm hits but it was different enough on the end that it didn’t really matter so much.

I did like that we got to see some more development of characters and the mystery was relatively smart. I will probably continue on with this series though I won’t be in any great rush.

Probably my favourite of this series so far.

Grave reunion

It's the 4th July holiday weekend and Aaron Denton is holding a reunion gathering at his family mansion. Among the invited guests are Nick, a reluctant, Maddie and Christy.

While Maddie packs and ensures that Maude has everything she needs before leaving they're attacked by a poltergeist. Nick steps in to catch Maddie and they make arrangements for Maude to stay with a friend planning to sort the spirit out on their return.

When they arrive Aaron gives Nick and Maddie a coveted turret suite, Maddie starts to settle only for a while though because Marla has managed to wrangle herself and Cassidy invitations to join the party. A ghostly visit from Rose Denton warns Maddie that all is not well in the mansion.

As the rest of the guests, Max, Brian and Lauren welcome a chance to reconnect with Maddie and Nick as a couple, Marla continues to goad Cassidy and attack Maddie every chance she has. But even managing to shut Maddie in the Denton's family mausoleum backfires when they're tricked into admitting their guilt when an unconscious Maddie is rescued by Nick and Aaron.

The rest of the friends do their best to set Cassidy straight about Marla's interest in Nick but when left to their own devices Marla manipulates her back round.

With hidden passages, a few dark family secrets and the poltergeist now roaming the mansion, lives are at risk and when Cassidy goes missing Marla is all too happy to point the finger directly at the only person who has a chance of helping to find her.

Maddie will risk it all to save Cassidy but she's going to be left speechless when the kidnapper reveals their plan.. it's surreal just not as surreal as what happens next!!

In Grave Misgivings we have Nick and Maddie getting ready to go to thier highschool reunion. They also get invited for the weekend to one of Nicks friends house with a few other people. Maddie is a bit reluctant as she doesn't really like to socialize.. I can totally relate.. but when an evil thing tries to push Maddie Granny down the stairs of her house, they decide to clear out of the house for a few days, and Granny can stay with a friend while plotting the downfall of Harriet Proctor.
Everything is going good, when they realize that Marla has been invited, and brought Cassidy along with her.. Things are getting a little bit weird in the house though, Maddie sees a ghost who warns her that something evil is around, and she gets trapped in a mausoleum, and Cassidy goes missing..
I loved everything about this one from the setting, to the fact that Cassidy finally got it through her head that Nick isn't going to one day want to get back with her. I can't wait to see what comes next for this couple and Blackstone Bay

Thanks for sweet escapism

I SO love this series! It's refreshing in these cynical times to have characters who are unashamedly modest, nice, and head-over-heels in love. Maddie is such a sweetie, which makes her snappish moments noticeable. Christy is an excellent bestie: totally Team Maddie, but willing to strongarm her out of that shell. Nick is a great boyfriend who can admit fault and strive to do better and a great officer; this reader appreciates he's not made to look incompetent so that Maddie can shine. Spicy Granny and recently departed Mom round out a great team that can always be depended on.The cold case aspect to the mystery lends itself quite nicely to several surprising reveals in the present, and the paranormal scenes are well-handled as usual and actually move the storyline along as opposed to just being filler. The humor is fun and the "big secret" being shown as less and less secret in every story is just ironic. And FINALLY someone has possibly seen the light! The measure of how satisfying I found this story: I smiled as I closed the book.

Entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series

This is a fun and entertaining Paranormal cozy mystery series. If I can cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. Maddie Graves is a young woman who can see and talk to ghost and she also has a bit of psychic ability. She lives with her grandmother in their family home and has a little shop in the front of the house where she sells Different items for self healing and other natural type remedies. Along with her boyfriend a local police officer and other friends. She’s trying to restart her life after being gone from town for the past 10 years. Her mother passed away and she moved back to town to live with her grandmother. on occasion she helps her boyfriend in the police department so mysteries by speaking with ghosts and finding out their secrets and what happened to them. Plenty of action lots of plot twists and mystery going on. Check it out

I pretty much love all of Lily Harper Hart's books. I think this is the 4th series I've read of hers, and they are all fabulous fun. The characters are just outstanding - well developed with real personalities and both strengths and flaws.

Maddie is a sweet person. She's sensitive to what others think of her and her friends, and just wants to live her life in peace and happiness with Nick, her best friend since they were 5. Nick is a police officer, and has loved Maddie his whole life. They reconciled when she returned to town, but things aren't that simple.

Nick and Maddie are going to stay with friends for the long holiday weekend, and are really looking forward to time together and with old friends. But guess who shows up: the PITA and the Ex! Then there's the old ghost hanging around the mansion. And a mean poltergeist on the hunt. Then the ex goes missing.... So much for a quiet weekend with friends!

Maddie still isn't my favorite, but I'm glad I have her another chance. Her confidence is growing and that helps.

GRAVE MISGIVINGS

Nick and Maddie are going to a party were they will be staying for a high school reunion kind of deal. They stay at one of Nicks friends that is throwing the father at his home. If course there are some not so welcome guests but also some that help Maddie at ease. One of the first goes missing and Maddie finds a ghost to help (who also helps her) and her mom makes a helpful ghostly appearance. This book smoothes over some of a troubled relationship of Maddie's and Nick' s with one guest and some hidden feelings of one guest come to light against the host. A lot to enjoy.

I really liked this story, but the author is so repetitive with certain phrases. Nick is always telling Maddie the Exact same thing, over and over. If I didn't love the series and the characters, I would probably stop here. I had a feeling there was more to . I'm so glad Marla was finally put in her place. Cassidy's action totally shocked me though. What she did was straight stalker!

I'm in love with this couple. They are totally in love. Maddie is becoming more self-confident. Nick is embracing Maddie's abilities. He's even deferring to her psychic abilities on some of his cases. This story even had the town bully getting what she deserved. I figured out who the killer was right before the reveal. Before that, it could have been any number of people. They all looked guilty to me. When the real killer came to light, though, he was truly an evil sociopath.

I want to preface this by saying I’m a huge fan of Lily Harper Hart, and I will continue to keep reading this series. Having said that, the amount of “oh you two are so cute. We all knew you were made for each other.” And the others of the friend group talking about how much Maddie and Nick love each other was over the top and annoying. Still it was an enjoyable read, but we get it already: they are so so so so in love. (Rolls eyes.)

I like the author and liked the first book in the series so decided to continue on. I'm disappointed that four books in, Maddie continues to be so insecure. Maddie and Nick's constant, I mean constant use of sugary nicknames and profession of their love for each other is also wearing thin. I'm starting to wonder if it's just to use up space as it can take a page at a time. Every time Nick calls Maddie "love" or "my Maddie" I cringe. this is 2018 not 1918. I'm on the next book in the series and don't know if I can complete it.

Reunion time.

A group of friends were gathering together to celebrate the holiday, and anytime that Maddie is around you can bet there's gonna be a ghost and possibly a dead body. A huge mansion, jealous friends, and dark secrets will make this a weekend to remember.

A reunion with danger, resentment, anger and a poltergeist.
Nick brings Maddie to a rich friend's house for a high school reunion. Marla brings Cassidy. That should give readers of the series some idea of parts of the story, but there are deeper and darker secrets to uncover.

haunted houses are always fun.

So, I am getting a little bit tired of the constant “I love you’s” that pass between Maddie and - what’s his name? But, as I said, haunted houses are always fun, and this one is no different.

Great book

Why Amazon insist on 20 words for a review via kindle, I don't know. Especially when I just want to say that I really enjoyed this book.
