SNOWMAGEDDON, Book 5 in the Windy City Neighbors series, takes us back to the Bentley household as Estelle crusades for a group home to move onto their block in hopes that her mentally challenged son can become one of the residents. But the tenuous relationships the Bentleys have developed since they moved to the neighborhood risk coming apart as opposition to the group home uncovers age-old prejudices and fears, as well as simmering tensions between the two Jewish and Iranian families. Harry Bentley faces his own demons when he risks losing custody of his only grandson and when the young woman he promised to protect from a vengeful drug mule flees the safety of the neighborhood.
After so much progress, Beecham Street faces another blizzard
SNOWMAGEDDON brings the Beecham Street neighbors full circle during a historic snowstorm that whiteouts a wedding, threatens the life of a mother and unborn child, and challenges just how much neighbors can count on each other when push comes to shove. Welcome to Beecham Street—a typical, isolated American neighborhood that was beginning to come out of its shell . . . but is about to be snowed under.
Dave and Neta Jackson are a full-time husband/wife writing team who have authored and co-authored many books on marriage and family, the church, relationships, and other subjects. Their books for children include the TRAILBLAZER series and Hero Tales, volumes I,II, III, and IV. The Jacksons make their home in Evanston, Illinois.
It sure was a great visit for me back to Beecham Street and the Bentley's. I can get caught up in the hustle and bustle surrounding their life quicker than their grandson DaShawn can go through Estelle's macaroni and cheese! Seriously, the Jacksons, who co-write this series, are so good at their craft! There is always, always real issues in their stories; whether it be relationships within families, personal fears and how we let them color our world, racism in all its' facets.....they always challenge me to ask what boundaries God is asking me to enlarge in my own world and in my faith. I will always, always pick up any book Dave and Neta Jackson write.
I can't get enough of Neta and Dave Jackson's Christian Chick lit. There is nothing that compares to them and the parallel writing and the different main characters changing.
I look forward to what is next. The best part is not just reading fiction (which I never used to read as a self help guru), it's the life lessons that are taught in faith that completely fill my cup.
I have now read all of Neta Jackson's books. This is the end of the series Windy City. It tied up the series to my satisfaction. I have always enjoyed all of Neta Jackson's books starting with the Yada Yada series. The characters are very well described and I feel like I could just start a conversation up with any of them, I feel I know them so well by now. Waiting to see if she will start a new series or what.. Love her books
These books are like keeping up with family. The concept of the neighborhood mixture learning to live and love together would be a dream come true for peace in our world today. These are the type of books our teens should be reading and discussing in our schools today. I hope there will be more stories to come. Ramona's, Leroy's, Jeff and Grace's, and so many more.
This book appears to be the end of a series, and at this point, things started feeling forced. I was interested to find out how the story arc ended, so I stuck with it. The title "Snowmageddon" led me to believe that most of the book would concern an epic snowstorm--but that was really only the last 3 chapters. The book wraps up the story of neighbors on the same Chicago block, and the authors are careful to include a variety of ethnic, religious and other groups.
This was the icing on the cake...Windy City Neighbors was almost as good as the Yada Yada series...I loved all these books....I feel as though they're family or neighbors.
I think this book is a great way to sum up the Windy City Series. I especially like the faster paced time frame this book covers than the previous books. I have fallen in love with this neighborhood and hate to see them go.
I feel so blessed to have these two authors take us home with such reality and to recognize and allow God to be the driver...and to put on our seatbelts. 😍 Please continue your awesome stories. They help to remind me that I need to feel the love everyday from our neighbors and most of all GOD💕
I love all these books I can't wait on the next book! I try to read slow so ill be ready to read the next book or I read other books! I'm fear for new book now! Must read!
If you're looking for a Christian fiction book, or just a good neighborhood story, the Windy City Neighbors series is worth reading. Neighbors helping each other and themselves. I can see myself reading these again sometime in the future!
This is the last book about all my friends in Yada Yada, I am in tears saying good bye to old friends. Our church ladies started a Yada Yada group that meets every two weeks so Dave and Neta Thank You
I really enjoyed reading all five of this Windy City series. They were all great! I would recommend these books to anyone that wants to know God from a different perspective.
The Jackson writing team is one of my favorite authors. Every time I finish one of their series, I feel like a good friend is moving. The characters are believable, regular people struggling with everyday life situations. Marital problems, financial problems, troubled children. The main character Estelle is all too human. She's a bit of a control freak and impatient when she thinks God is not anwering her prayers fast enough for her perfect solution of having a group home in the neighborhood so her son can live nearby. There are brief mentions of the original Yada Yada prayer group and the House of Hope series. I love the diversity of the characters and how even in a big city, you can form bonds within a neighborhood or complex. I'm sad the series is ending. I would like to get to know some of the other characters better. A feel good book about the power of prayer, faith, friendship and the goodness of God.
This is the last in the Windy City Neighbors series and it was fantastic. We get to see many of the Yada Yada characters from books past. Our plans are not God's plans but they are more than we could ever imagine. One person can bring a neighborhood together even in a world that most do not know their neighbors anymore. All Yada Yada books have left me thinking of my own walk.
Sometimes authors just try too hard - and it shows. This one just felt pushed from the get go - got "X" number of pages to make this, this and this happen to reach the final climax of this. So busy getting everything in to get to the ending that the "ride" just wasn't that fun. Sorry - not their best work.
I will always love anything by Dave and Neta Jackson... the final book in this series did not disappoint. I feel like these books and their multi-cultural and dynamic characters could transfer easily into a tv series... they feel alive and layered with all the things life throws at each of us, so relatable in so many ways!
I have read and enjoyed every one of the Yada Yada books and continuations. This one was enjoyable as well! I feel like I know the characters - you two really make them come alive! I'm looking forward to the next book already.
My husband and I read all 5 books in this series one after another. They are wonderful, Christian books. Have real all the Yada-Yada Series and several others. Way to go Neta and Dave Jackson.
Love all the books in Neta Jackson's Yada Yada series. These characters that we know and love from the various series that are all connected are just wonderful. I'm sad to see them end. I am hoping she is working on a new series that will continue all these lovable characters!
Another Excellent read. Dave and Neta Jackson are some of the best christian fiction writers. Their stories are always rooted in reality and a whole lot of God. I love reading their stories.
I loved this book in the series. I struggled with Pound Foolish but this one told from Estelle's point of view felt like a return to the Yada Yada series and House of Hope which I love.
