“Dark Fire” is the super sensual love story of Sid and Rose.
Firstly, I have to start off by saying that this book is extremely poetic, and I can say it as this weird mixture of Romeo and Juliet meeting Phantom of the opera meeting the Bollywood classic “Saajan” We have it all! -A TOPGUN pilot hero loathing his not so attractive features -A heroine who’s the most beautiful woman there can ever be -The hero reluctantly encouraging his friend to woo the heroine, by writing sonnets for her -The heroine falling for the cheesy sensual words, as well as orgasming to his music -Her having a bad past -Him having his own insecurities -A truth reveal which leads to expected discord between the couple -An expected chase with OTT unexpected gestures -More drama and love confessions and running away -Grand gestures of apology -Even more drama followed by HEA Overall, this was my first book by the author and an interesting read to say the least.
Sid Granger, Lt Commander, navy pilot, and owner of a “hatchet face with a large nose” has always made jokes about his appearance to avoid questions about his lack of a love life. When he and some buddies meet in Paris for a 30 day leave, he is not thinking of romance. At his hotel he sees a beautiful woman and is immediately attracted without hope of ever making a connection. He pours his heart out in his music. When he sees her again in the company of his friends and one of them, Luther, a shy, handsome flyer, is immediately smitten, he lets himself be talked into writing poetry for her. So begins a Cyrano de Bergerac story. Rose Anne Jones, supermodel, has had two deceptive relationships and is looking for honesty. This was an OK interpretation of the classic tale, but the beauty and the beast aspect was definitely overdone.
On the Nook this eBook has 411 pages. I gave this book 3 stars for its predictability. With that said while I was reading Sid Granger's story I found myself rooting for him to win the girl, even with all the mistakes he made.
In this modern-day Cyrano de Bergerac story, Sid Granger, a fighter pilot with the soul of a poet, thinks he’s too homely to woo and win exquisite cover model Rose Ann Jones. He agrees to use his poetry and music to woo her for his buddy, never expecting that, instead of falling for the buddy, Rose Ann will fall for Sid’s romantic soul. When Rose Ann discovers the charade and runs, Sid has to come to terms with his own self-image before he can make Rose Ann believe she is the only music that fills his heart.
Someone said it was a predictable love story. I thought most love stories are predictable though - boy meets girl, something happens between boy and girl, they struggle with "stuff", then boy finally gets girl?!
I liked the story and although it was obvious what would happen it was nice getting there. Nice easy read, the kind I like.
While I read this book, I couldn't help but picturing Steve Martin and Darryl Hannah in the movie Roxanne. I thought that because it was a familiar story line it would be less enjoyable but I was wrong. I truly enjoyed this version.
