This is definitely a story every horror lover should have on their spooky seaspn TBR. It has all the elements you want for a fall or halloween time read; blood, guts, spooky scarecrow. It is so tense and unnerving. Everything about it feels like the kind of scary movie you'd watch year after year. I absolutely loved it and can't recommend it enough!

THE MAWKIN by Kevin Kangas
Whether you’re new to horror or a seasoned horror reader, you absolutely need this book on your spooky month TBR!
This book has ALL the best October vibes. A small town, family curses and secrets, and a supernatural killer scarecrow.
It gave me all the spooky vibes I wanted. It was creepy, dark, and even sad at times. The story also does a great job exploring grief and the different bonds between a father and son.
And I never knew what was coming. The story just kept throwing me for a loop, and I loved that I couldn’t predict where it was going.
This was such a FANTASTIC read!

I've had the pleasure of reading so many great books but most of all discovering brilliant authors from the group, Books of Horror. And Kevin Kangas has been added to the list.
That being said The Mawkin was the PERFECT way to start October. It has the right amount of character development so that you love and hate the right people. Without it going on and on like some stories. The atmosphere is.....this makes no sense but fall. All I think is fall. Which added a great element to the storm. Full of twists, turns, WTFs and at one point I cheered.
But most off all "The Mawkin take you."

We follow Garrett Parker and his son Mark as they move to a new small town. As they struggle with their own grief and demons, they are also dealt an impossible hand in Walpurgis. When small town perfection looks like a country utopia on the surface, soon it’s revealed to have hidden terrifying secrets decades old. This had great character development, pacing, and suspense and I highly recommend this one for your spooky season TBR! 🎃

Welcome to Walpurgis—a small town surrounded by cornfields, creepy scarecrow, and an evil curse.
This one definitely brings the spooky and is the perfect read for this Halloween season. If creepy small towns and cornfields are your thing, add this one to your October TBR!
