Unseen Enemy #6

Solid Steel

Rate this book
Nine weeks ago, Selena Perez voluntarily underwent a double mastectomy to save her life. Despite it being her choice (well, kind of), she's now struggling with her body image and her femininity. The last thing that she needs is a man, even if he is dark, dangerous and devastatingly sexy... and will do anything to get her.

Three years ago, Luke Rhodes lost his left hand in Afghanistan. Now, he barely thinks about it as he goes about his daily life as a cook and bartender at Dangerous Curves. After all, he has most everything that he wants... everything except Selena.

The depth and breadth of their passion takes them both by surprise, and Selena surrenders to Luke completely. What she doesn't know is that Luke is hiding something from her. Well, not something - someone. Worse, this someone threatens to destroy all of Selena's belief in the man that she's trusted with her body - and her heart.

Selena was one kickass heroine that I loved. During the course of the book she was going through a really tough time but I liked that we got to see that vulnerability from her and then got to see Luke come in and save that day. He was always right there to show her that she was worth loving, no matter her struggles. They were just perfect together.

This is a continuation of a series that I fell in love with through the first 4 books and seemed to have lost some of its glitter because I wasn’t completely invested into this secondary crop of characters. The minimal glance back to the OG cast of characters is nice, but it just isn’t the same.

Beautiful, powerful and sexy love story. How empowering is to find that person that accept you with your flaws and imperfections, that love you and worship you no matter what. Luke and Serena story is beautiful and sweet, and of course hot, scorching hot. Thank you Marysol James for such a beautiful story of love and acceptance.

You've done it again. Created a beautiful story about real people! Selena's body consciousness is understandable for any women who has experienced what she has but the warm and caring way that Luke accepts her for all the is and isn't is amazing! I certainly didn't expect the turn this story too but I was moved by their love and complete acceptance of each other! Beautiful story!

I can't believe that an author can take two such damaged people and make a love story work. MJ amazes me again with her writing skill, also with her big picture. I read her books now and pay attention to eveything, even minor stuff or people, because I feel like they're going to appear later. I think she has to be the only writer I know who writes with so much control of her plot and characters.

The final book in the series for me. A fascinating plot revolving around two people with serious wounds. As they attempt to fully recover, they grow to support and depend on each other. Good romantic novel with a few twists.

Great continuation of the Unseen Enemy Series. Selena is the other female security agent (The previous book was about Cordelia). She's partnered with Griff. Griff and Selena work the over night shift. They are like brother & sister/best friends. Griff notices that Selena has been acting differently since she came back from her six week leave of absence. He introduces her to his friend Luke. Luke has been hearing about Selena and is very interested in her even before they meet.
Luke works at Dangerous Curves (a bar/restaurant) as a cook. Luke lost his left hand in the war in Afghanistan three years before. Selena does feel an attraction but she resists Luke for a while. Selena is normally very confidant and physically fit. We soon find out what Selena has been keeping a secret from everyone.
Luke and Selena do start a relationship. Luke is very sweet and gentle with Selena. Selena is curios about what happened when Luke lost his hand. He's been adjusting and managing without his left hand for the last 3 years.
Just about all of the other previous books' characters are in this book. The plot is mainly about Selena and Luke's relationship. There is one case that has a huge impact on Selena and her partner Griff. The violent out come also exposes Selena's secret.
This is early on in the book, so it really makes Selena dependent on Luke's help. She's not used being vulnerable. This is actually my favorite part of the book.
There's a big test of there relationship. Luke screws up when he actually means well. Then all hell breaks loose.
There's an HEA. No epilogue. ... but there's book 7 coming soon.

I wanted to like this so much more than I did. Serena's a total bad ass, but feeling decidedly less so after having a double mastectomy because she tested for the breast cancer gene. She's told no one and they only discover it after she's in an altercation while trying to protect a diva. Luke best friends with Griff, S's partner. He's been interested in her from just the stories G has told him, and now he wants to pursue her. And, in a coincidence that has little bearing on the story until the end, he's missing a hand.

There's an ex-fiance who is more trouble than she was worth since L and everyone he knows is accused of murdering her. Although if the author had included one more sentence directly foreshadowing the events to come, I would have dropped this a star.

We also get little snippets back into the lives of the other characters. Emma hasn't had her baby yet, but Jenny wants to open a second restaurant and have Chris make the furniture for it after she sees the crib he bade for Emma. Beth's still having nightmares, and D and O are still married. Hunter and Cordelia get married and are trying for a third kid.

I'd like to see HEA's for all of the characters but really don't think I should have to wade through 7 books in order to get there. Jeesh.

Once again I really enjoyed this. I loved how Luke was with Selena totally accepting of her. He did however have brain freeze in the book and pulled a stupid move. Up until this all came out the book was great but after this point it kind of rushed to the end and was all over in the blink of an eye. I would have liked more at the end, but it was still a really great story.

This is such a great series! I love how the author doesn't shy away from hard topics and is always respectful towards the survivors. All of her characters are damaged in one way or another but they're all so strong and give one another strength. I just really wish that they were longer cause I can't seem to get enough!
I strongly recommend this book and series!

I'm not sure what to say. I feel it's a 2-3. It had all the components of a sweet emotional romance between two wounded people then if dissolved into tstl and an abrupt ending.

I like them both, but I liked Luke more. Ah, I just don't know.

I feel in love with these characters. Loved the fact that we got a glimpse of the other characters from the other books.
