A Fire Like Hers

Rate this book
Cedar Hollow's fire department gets called to the public library at 2:47 in the morning, and Nix Quinn is a six foot tall, ex-Army firefighter with a very small, very managed life — finds no smoke, no flames, just one furious librarian on the sidewalk in her bathrobe and a pan of burnt cinnamon rolls.

Juniper Sato is five foot one, has a master's degree she'd like on the record, and makes sure it’s Nix who comes back for the building inspection before she has finished writing the incident report. She is also the most direct woman you’ll likely meet, and she knows exactly what she wants the second she sees it.

When a storm takes out the library roof and Junie ends up in Nix’s spare room, four months of quiet routine turn into something neither of them planned. Nix has spent years arranging her life so nothing can hurt that much again. Junie has never once slowed down for anything — and it turns out the sweet, awkward librarian in the cardigan is the one in charge once the bedroom door closes, and the firefighter who runs into burning buildings goes down on her knees the second she's told to.

Cozy, filthy, small-town sapphic romance. Forced proximity, grumpy/sunshine, and a soft femme who runs the show. Contains a grand gesture with seventy-five-foot ladder truck, one horseshoe crab fact deployed as a love confession, and a great deal of collateral damage to the library’s mystery section.

this was genuinely the NICEST 80 pages i have ever read 😭😭😭

and when i say i wish this was 300+ pages, i don’t mean it felt rushed or like it was missing detail — IT WAS JUST SOOOOO GOOD THAT I NEEDED MORE. give me 300 pages. give me 500. give me an entire series. i was NOT ready to say goodbye to nix and junie after 80 pages 😭

i fell in love with both of them so ridiculously fast.HELLO???? their dynamic had me absolutely GONE.

the cozy small-town vibes, the forced proximity, the grumpy/sunshine EVERYTHING. and somehow this sweet little romance was also SO MUCH SPICIER THAN I EXPECTED??? 😭🔥

i was genuinely surprised in the BEST possible way because GOD DAMN. the spice had NO BUSINESS going that hard in my cute little library firefighter romance. (I LOVEEEE NO WORRIES!!!)

and the 75-foot ladder truck??? the horseshoe crab fact as a love confession??? the mystery section catching strays??? 😭😭😭

i just wanted MORE. more nix. more junie. more of them being stupidly adorable together. more domestic moments. more chaos. more EVERYTHING.

80 pages was criminally insufficient when i was this invested 😭

cozy, sweet, sapphic, surprisingly filthy, and now i’m sitting here mourning the 300+ page version of this book that exists only in my imagination.

i loved them. i loved this. i need more. immediately. 🫠💗

So good!

You know it's a good story when it gets you hot and bothered yet makes you want to cry at the same time. This book has everything you could want; a hunky, emotional unavailable firefighter, a sexy, knows what she wants librarian, cute kids and steamy bedroom scenes. What's not to like! I highly recommend this for any romance lover.

Great quick read

Great short book. I loved these characters so much. I can’t wait to read more from this author. Also the Dynamic between the main characters was everything.

Love this

I love this story. In 2020 or 2021 it was dec 21. I had a dream about a soldier women beautiful blonde tall and in uniform at a restaurant setting down to eat. I woke up and told my story. Me and my partner ( father of my kids) went out on a lunch date. I look down at my outfit and it matches the dream I open the door and right in front of me is the same woman from my dream I couldn't talk she had the same smirk on her face the only different is her jacket wasnt one and in the dream it was. She was absolutely breath taking I look at my partner and say that her from the dream. I could even say thank you for ur serves I was lost so lost I walk the line to order wrong. We go out to ear outside and as we are almost done shes fighting with her hat and she looks up sees me as if I was in a dream she had I looked away for a second and she was running walking away. Anyways I still haven't seen her again. But today I was ready my prayer book and it opened up to the pray I would say for her for a ever and on it it say to my solider lady. Then I open this site to read I needed a new book and this pops up. Maybe soon ill see her again but this time ill speak and wont regret a thing. Thank you so much for this beautiful story

This popped up in my feed somehow and I decided it was time to try out a little ff romance!

The actual story was fine (though it sure was jarring to read the sex scenes when I've lived for years reading about pretty much nothin' but cocks), but my brain stuck on the writing style. It's the exact style of writing from Ansley Ellis's Knot Club series and Swipe My Alpha by Lexie Slater. I couldn't explain the writing of those at the time I read them, but the short sentences and the structure feel the same as this. If there's one thing I trust my autistic brain to do, it's recognize patterns, and this definitely fits the same one.

I checked the publication page before reading, but the cover is simply credited to the author (though there was no anti gen-ai statement). I think of myself as embarrassingly bad at spotting AI covers and writing, and it's not my intention to accuse anyone of anything. I recognize that's damaging, and I couldn't find any information one way or another when I went searching. I won't leave a star rating as I could be wrong, but my brain will not let go of the idea that it found a pattern match and I do trust that.

Did not think a 67 page novella would have me on an emotional rollercoaster but here we are!!

Usually love slow burns but this one worked so well, absolutely love Nix and Junie!

Even though it was only 67 pages, i loved every bit of their story, and it didn’t feel rushed at all !!

Definitely reading more from this author in the future!!!!

Who knew burnt cinnamon rolls would bring about the start of a relationship.

Sapphic romance. Firefighter/librarian. Size difference. Mental health/past traumas. Short, but the boss in the relationship.

The Fire is Out

The story isn’t very well developed and almost reads like an AI book. The dialogue is repetitive as are the love scenes.
