I soar through the sky, bat wings cleaving the air through my passing as I push myself faster to reach my destination. The monsters ahead loom large, but a world is at stake – our world. Everyone has joined forces together – regardless of who or what they may be. This is our world’s last stand, and we will fight – and die – as one. With a burst of eldritch power, I summon several black-clad warriors to my side, each carrying double-bladed swords I crafted earlier as I came to a stop. They swooped in, tearing chunks of flesh out of the giant, and as I took a glance to the side, I saw dragons breathing fire, serpents coiling, twisting and biting, ogres pummeling with their large, tree-shaped clubs…
…It was the glorious chaos of ongoing battle, and I absolutely reveled in it. The next batch of giant monstrosities made their appearance, and I began the assault by causing the ground under them to turn into an acidic bog, pulling them in while melting the flesh from their bones. My allies took this cue to press the attack, and with it, the momentum continued to turn towards our side. But as we were about to savor our final victory, the skies parted, an abomination descended, and it shrieked with the mighty, ringing and somewhat familiar sound of a…
…wait, is that a bell ringing?
Oh, for the love of…
…and with that, my eyes open to a not-quite-familiar ceiling. With a sigh, I pull my arm from the alarm clock and ease myself up. Whoever made school schedules begin in the ungodly hours of the morning should be given a cigarette and blindfold, honestly.
I enjoyed the story but it was over simplified in places and very repetitive with psychic dreams then the real event that had very few changes from the dream. Where tension should have built it didn't, where emotions should have built they didn't. In places I felt as if I was reading a book aimed at a much younger audience. Then there are the grammatical errors and missing words, I wonder if this was translated into English? That could explain some of the errors but missing words and other errors made the book very bumpy to read and instead of falling into the book and being swept away I fell out of the story. I don't think I will read another by this author.
I read YA to glean for my young adolescent grandchildren before either lending or buying. I am in awe of the content and am hopeful the author takes similar approaches to more long detailed characters and books. Very well written.
