The Mistletoe Springs animal shelter loses their grant, endangering the lives of countless stray dogs, cats, even birds and turtles. The community attempts to save the shelter by running a Christmas in July fundraiser. Groups of volunteers scramble to get all the details together while managing their personal lives. For eight people, love gets in the way. Four novellas by four excellent, multi-published authors.
“A Cockatoo for Two” Nikki Waldrop is given a cockatoo because her son is allergic to hairy animals. But this biology teacher needs help from the principal, who once lived in Indonesia and knows about caring for a cockatoo. When the sick bird responds with “Gimme a kiss,” hearts begin to soar.
“Brewed with Love” When Amber Cook meets firefighter Bryan Grant, can she overcome her deep seated fear of fire and discover true love?
“Mistletoe Madness” To say Kayla can't function in a crowd is an understatement. The only help she can get to do her part to help the shelter is the bane of her existence, her brother's best friend who has teased and harassed her mercilessly all her life. But Drew's feelings for Kayla have suddenly changed. Can he both help the shelter, and help Kayla change her mind about him?
“Mr. Christmas and Miss Scrooge” Mitch Silverton agreed to be in charge of decorating for the fundraiser. And he needs his boss, Margaret Holberg, to donate her family's vast array of decorations to make the day unforgettable. BUT...
She's not sharing. Christmas is not a holiday she wants to celebrate in July, and saving the animal shelter is not high on her list of important things to do.
He wants her to share more than the decorations. He wants her heart. Will he succeed in changing Miss Scrooge into Mrs. Christmas?

Love in Mistletoe Springs***** by Kimberly Rose Johnson, Lee Carver, Lee Tobin McClain, Gail Sattler and Ginger Solomon
This is a collection of five novellas with a common theme—the Mistletoe Springs animal shelter. The shelter looses their grant and are in danger of having to close their doors—what will happen to the countless stray dogs, cats, birds and even turtles being cared for by the shelter? The community comes together in an attempt to save the shelter by having a Christmas in July fundraiser. Will they be able to save the shelter?
-A Cockatoo for Two by Lee Carver Nikki Waldrop's son Nate longs for a dog but is allergic to hairy animals and is given a Cockatoo. But how do you care for a Cockatoo? Caleb Chase, the principal of the school where Nikki works, may be able to help since he once lived in Indonesia. This is a fun short story. I found myself chuckling with the characters. I could almost see the Cockatoo as it was described and the antics the characters “performed” to get it to talk. Single mom, Nikki's struggles were clear as was her young son, Nate in his frustration in not being able to get a dog—or any hairy animal—due to his allergies. I liked Caleb's warm heart and hoped for love to bloom between him and Nikki. But since he has a dog, how would that work?
-Brewed with Love by Kimberley Rose Johnson When Amber Cook meets firefighter Bryan Grant, can she overcome her deep seated fear of fire and discover true love? Amber's fear of fire is felt when her stove catches on fire and she later explains to Bryan why she is afraid of fire. I loved Bryan's heart as he prayed for guidance in his relationship—or lack of—with Amber. Very cute romance story.
-Stray Gifts by Lee Tobin McClain Dani Cooper has vowed to focus on her four kids and stay away from strays—animal or human. But will she be able to resist the handsome, mysterious veteran who shows up on her doorstep looking for work...and maybe, for a home and family too? I loved that Dani saw good in others, despite her sister's nagging about her taking in strays. I didn't like her sister much, she constantly was at Dani for something she felt she shouldn't be doing. The stranger who shows up at her door, Shane MacQuaid, soon captured my heart as did her children. Very sweet story.
-Mistletoe Madness by Gail Sattler Kayla Kowalchuck has been put in charge of getting the word out about the animal shelter's upcoming fund raiser. However, Kayla doesn't know how to utilize computers/internet to spread the word quickly. Her brother's friend, Drew Matthews offered to help her. But Drew always teased her when they were children—can she trust him to help her without the teasing she hated? It was interesting to see how Drew and Kayla worked together, with Kayla trying not to get to close to him, expecting something unpleasant to happen at any moment. I felt bad for Drew, he was trying so hard to show Kayla he had changed. Interesting developments in the story.
-Mr. Christmas and Miss Scrooge by Ginger Solomon Mitch Silverton agreed to be in charge of decorating for the fundraiser. And he needs his boss, Margaret Holberg, to donate her family's vast array of decorations to make the day unforgettable. BUT...she's not sharing! Christmas is not a holiday she wants to celebrate in July, and saving the animal shelter is not high on her list of important things to do. He wants her to share more than the decorations. He wants her heart. Will he succeed in changing Miss Scrooge into Mrs. Christmas? Margaret was fiesty and certainly had the attitude of Scrooge. I think she was trying to show she was a professional and took things a bit too far. Mitch was a likeable fellow and I could see he really wanted things between them to be more than professional. I liked the way the story developed as these two continued to butt-heads. Fun story.
I liked the way each author incorporated the characters from each story in such a way the story-line flowed flawlessly. This group of stories are fun to read, offer funny antics, a little drama, mystery, a community coming together in a common goal, restoration and faith woven throughout the stories.
~I received a PDF copy of the book from the author for my honest review~
Second Chance Animal Shelter finds homes for strays and surrendered animals of Mistletoe Springs. They need to acquire funds in order to stay open. Each of these stories connect to putting together the fundraiser.
Nikki Waldrup is a teacher whose son suffers from asthma. The faculty are rallying together to save the Second Chance Animal Shelter, but she is more concerned with her son who is allergic to cats and dogs. Caleb Chase is the principal in charge of activities to help raise money for the shelter. When Nikki's mother adopts a cockatoo for Nikki's son Nate, she asks Caleb to help her with the cockatoo. Can a cockatoo bring two people together? Will they have a future together? This is a very sweet romance. I loved the story line, which kept me turning the pages to see what would happen next.
Brewed With Love by Kimberly Rose Johnson
I loved this romance! Bryan Grant knew Amber Cooke when they were teens volunteering at Second Chance Animal Shelter. Now that Amber has taken over the Main Street Java, Bryan is trying to find a place for his band to practice. Amber doesn't like music or firefighters, and Bryan is both. Will Amber's fear keep her apart from Bryan?
Stray Gifts by Lee Tobin McLain
Dani Cooper has been twice-divorced and has four kids. She is too trusting, so she's going to change. Shane MacQuaid is a war veteran running from his wealthy family ties. He's a handyman who wants to stay in town and fix things, Dani's heart included. Can she open her heart one more time for love? This was a very sweet romance. "Stray gifts from God, to be valued, and treasured, and shared." Perfect ending.
Mistletoe Madness by Gail Sattler
Kayla Kowalchuck is organizing getting the animals noticed by prospective adopters for the fundraiser. She isn't sure how to get videos uploaded or use social media to get the word out about the event, so her brother's friend Drew Matthews helps her. Kayla has grown up with her brother and Drew teasing her and making fun. Why is her heart now telling her he's different? Can Drew prove to her he's changed?
Mr. Christmas and Miss Scrooge by Ginger Solomon
Mitch Silverton works at Holberg's Hardware. The owners have left their daughter Margaret Holberg in charge while they travel abroad. Can Mitch convince her he is more than her employee? Mitch is supposed to take care of decorations for the Christmas in July fundraiser. Margaret won't let him borrow decorations. How can he convince her to give him her heart?
This is a great collection of stories from talented authors. Spinning stories around a fundraiser orchestrated to save the local animal shelter made for fun stories of romance, love, pets, and overcoming obstacles. Pick up this great book today!
I've never read a book written by this many authors, but they pull it off beautifully. As a quilter, I know how important that at least one or two colors show up consistently in each different square to keep the consistency of the quilt. These writers pulled this same concept off extremely well in this book. It takes place in a small town. There was a background theme and several sub-themes weaving through each story. Then the characters change with each different author. Excellent Christian book.
This fun to read collection of five Christian romance novellas has a shared theme, that of saving Second Chance Animal Shelter by doing fundraisers. The saving of the small town's rescue animal shelter also brings couples together. These five romances are written by five different writers. It takes place in the small town of Mistletoe Springs with the theme of Christmas in July. The characters change with each different story and novella author. I loved each one story. A copy of the book was given in exchange for an honest review. I recommend this book.
Mr. Christmas and Miss Scrooge is a light-hearted tale of what happens when the boss is trying too hard to be professional around her employees – and how one particular employee shows her that it’s all right to relax and trust her feelings.
Meggy and Mitch are two very interesting characters. Meggie is driven to command – almost demand – respect from the others, while Mitch is trying to earn much more from Meggy. Can Mitch convince his boss do the reasonable thing?
If you want to know how it all works out in the end, make time for this fun, quirky story!
In the five romance set Love In Mistletoe Springs, the authors develop the concept – saving a pet shelter by having a Christmas in July fundraiser. This pet shelter has some unusual animals: a cockatoo, a lizard, and a white rat. An excellent cooperative effort of five talented authors, even though each romance is a stand alone, each author was able to weave together the elements of the pet shelter and the rescued pets with their forever home owners together. A fun summer read for romantic pet lovers.
Love in Mistletoe Springs is a series of christian romance novellas centered on the The Second Chance Animal Shelter in Mistletoe Springs. Each novella has a Christian worldview, I loved each novella and their characters and stories. This was a nice read on a lazy summer afternoon with a glass of sweet tea although I guess it should have been hot chocolate since it was Christmas in July. A copy of the book was given in exchange for an honest review.
This was a collection of short love stories, done sort of as a framework piece, although each story was told by a different author. The premise was good - stories surrounding animals and volunteers for a small town's animal shelter that needs a major fundraiser to keep it open. Not only were the stories themselves good, but the book provides several ideas that I will pass along to friends of mine who work in animal rescue...
I loved this collection of faith based romances. The authors did a wonderful job of keeping the flow from one story to the next and incorporating the characters from the other stories which made this collection read like it was one novel. It was enjoyable getting to know each of the characters and following their story in the overall story line. I definitely recommend this set to anyone who enjoys good Christian fiction.
I'm not a romance reader, yet Lee Carver has engaged me in both this book and one that is currently unpublished. I actually bought this collection because Lee was a featured author (her and Ginger Solomon). It's engaging, not predictable--aside from the fact it's a romance. It's well written and Carver uses language beautifully.
This collection of five "sweet" romance novellas is a fun read. There is a shared premise--saving the small town's rescue animal shelter--to bring couples together. Five romances, five happily-ever-afters from five excellent writers. And each one is as different as can be.
These 5 authors did a amazing job working together to write this beautiful story. The people working together to help the animal shelter is truly remarkable. Watching these people work together and form a relationship is beautifully written.
I recommend this book to the ones who loves a good romance. This is about a town trying very hard to help keep their animal shelter open and thru this book you will find people who meet and become involved with the fund raising and with each other.
