A Bear Walks into a Bar

Rate this book
It takes one strong alpha with a tight grip to keep a mountain full of shifters under control. Sawyer Ballantine’s contending with an uppity wolf leader and a herd of shifter elk bound and determined to take over. He might be the lone bear on the mountain, but he’s not going to allow another four shifters to just move in, especially not when they whiff of power. They’ll either be his in all ways, or they’ll be gone.

Dillon, Jerry, Kevin, and Brad have no one but each other since their groups kicked them out. The young bear, wolves, and fox make a merry ménage, pooling their meager skills and serving beer. They’ve stumbled into more than they understand, caught in the dispute between the Urso of Ballantine Mountain and the elk. But winter’s setting in, and they don’t know how to keep Dillon safe for hibernation.

And then a bear walks into their bar.

You will know Eden Winters by her distinctive white plumage and exuberant cry of “Hey, y’all!” in a Southern US drawl so thick it renders even the simplest of words unrecognizable. Watch out, she hugs!

Driven by insatiable curiosity, she possibly holds the world’s record for curriculum changes to the point that she’s never quite earned a degree but is a force to be reckoned with at Trivial Pursuit.

She’s trudged down hallways with police detectives, learned to disarm knife-wielding bad guys, and witnessed the correct way to blow doors off buildings. Her e-mail contains various snippets of forensic wisdom, such as “What would a dead body left in a Mexican drug tunnel look like after six months?” In the process of her adventures, she has written over thirty gay romance novels, lost count of novellas and short stories, has won Rainbow Awards, was a Lambda Awards Finalist, and lives in terror of authorities showing up at her door to question her Internet searches.

When not putting characters in dangerous situations she’s cosplaying for children's charities or hanging out at the farm being a mother, grandmother, and vegetarian.

Her natural habitats are hardware stores and on the backs of motorcycles.

"Oh, yes, stretched, lubed, and ready, just the way Sawyer liked his holes."

A Bear Walks Into A Bar is a shifter pornucopia! Readers of PWP who want to cramp their hands from a faptastic time, this is a book for you!

Ever been in the mood to just read about dicks, cum and multiple partners? Yeah?

Or just wanted to cut the middle man, leave the gushy romance words and get down to the fucking...a lot? As a lover of PWP, I can say this is one to jizz read. Get your towels ready! Practice those nifty hand exercises, your hand(s) will get a workout!

Wait! Let me get to the book first before you start, Naughty!

This book is about a lot of shifters, but the most important is the Urso, or head alpha bear, Sawyer. He's a grizzly, rich bear who is approaching hibernation season (late fall to spring). There is talk of four shifters encroaching his territory with a new bar and he can't have that. He's the boss and the boss needs to know what is going on at all times. He's slinging major meat between his legs and he has no problem wielding it to get his way and show his power.

So he enters their bar, meets Dillon - a boar bear, Jerry and his cousin Kevin, alpha and beta wolves and Brad, the horniest fox shifter ever. The four shifter men were ousted from their shifter clans. Sawyer takes a sniff of their lusty power and joins the group in ménage à cinq. Sweet Cheesus, was that a hot howdy do!

[A Ménage à Cinq GIF FUCKS HERE ON THE BLOG]
How'd that get there? *fake blush*

To get the most enjoyment from this story:

1) Don't take it too seriously.
2) Know it's about 85-90% sex, the rest is plot (plot's there but paper thin)
3) Don't mind open relationships

"Sex is a tool, like any other, to garner loyalty, win support, let off steam, or exert dominance."

I'm a reader who doesn't mind a heavy dose of sex in a story and this book found all of the fucks from the world to use.

You might not have a fuck to give because A Bear Walks Into a Bar, has taken your fuck. It's reaping in football fields of fucks all around the world. This book might win the fuck prize because of its abundant use.

There was so much sex, is there such a thing as contact jizz on the face?

And even with the abundant sex with multiple partners, it wasn't boring, just saturated.

The wolves love to play. The bears in hibernation mode = major horny. There are elk shifters that really impressed me with being able to stand out with all the other hot shifter men around. And of course, Brad, the horny ginger fox shifter: "Power bottom didn't come close to describing Brad."

Fox shifters aren't monogamous and are always down for having a good time with as many people as they can.

"What did one get when they entered a room with two or more fox shifters? Fucked to death. But what a way to go."

Brad's a great representation of that. He was like an Energizer bunny that guy. Nothing stopped him after coming to find more cock to stuff inside.

There wasn't much kink, barely any. What to find? Double penetration, a sex sling, many variations of multiple pairings - the highest number was a ménage à huit! That was a slick, fluids filled fun time.

[HERE IS WHERE AN ORGY PIC PUMPS ON THE BLOG]
An 8-some for those who need to visualize.

The plot? It's about bonding, finding mates and forming alliances among different shifter factions. The shifters couple up but that doesn't stop the fuck train. And the author wrote it in a way with their shifter mindset, the sex is just like a welcome, or show of dominance, or just a way to share their power. Shifters exude powers more so during sex, so they'll love to have plentiful and often. Given their natures in this book, it wasn't any surprise why it was sex all the time.

But the plot is not as strong as it could have been. There were parts where the story slacked off like Rudy, the current alpha wolf who has a power hungry beta who wants his place. A showdown wouldn't have been remiss. Some spots in the story were a little dull, a little heavy on the exclamation points, a little cheesy.

But in the story's favor, it was easy to follow and I didn't mix up who was who or should I say, who was doing who. It's not a serious book, I had a fun time reading their bonding and I didn't get jizz in my eye, a plus.

Would I recommend? Not for every reader.
If you prefer a couple who only are dedicated to themselves, try Eden Winters, "Naked Tails". It's my fave shifter story from this author with possum shifters! Romantic comedy FTW!

So in closing, here's my favorite quote:

"Hi, I'm Brad. Have I blown you yet?"

Not yet, Brad, not yet.

This is an erotic M/M menage/poly shifter romance that is HEAVY on the sexy. It features regular interspecies sex and multi-partner scenes.

Dillon is a bear shifter who was banned from his sleuth for being gay. In the years since, he's has collected two outcast wolves, alpha Jerry and his cousin beta Kevin, and Brad a sexypants fox shifter to become a happy family for each. They've scrounged and scraped to get the money to buy a bar on Ballantine Mountain in Colorado. Together these four work the bar and frolic in bed. And out of bed. And anywhere, pretty much. Especially Brad who--as a fox shifter--is totally promiscuous.

Sawyer Ballantine is an Urso bear--he should be leading his own sleuth of bears, if they hadn't been massacred a decade previously. Now, Sawyer leads the many shifter packs on his mountain with a ruthless manner, subduing all by violent or sexual means. He keeps the alpha of the wolf pack, Rudy, as his second-in-command, recognizing that the elk shifters are encroaching and wolf politics could turn against him at any time. But first, Sawyer must deal with the four rogues taking up space on his mountain. With sexy results.

This is a COMPLETE erotic adventure of shifter politics and hierarchy. There is so much sex, of all M/M varieties--partners, triads, foursomes, orgies--some of (initially) dubious consent that I'm reminded of a category on a Book Review Blog called "Books you read one-handed." A BEAR would most probably fall into this category. The book fairly steamed up the screen of my iPad.

Despite all the multi-partner and non-monogamous action on the page there is no abdication of emotion. The players involved are thoroughly invested in what's happening, and reveling in true hedonistic fashion. Even where there are partnerships, the inclusion of others is welcomed, and understood. For one, a wolf-fox partnership, Sawyer attempts to inject a dose of reality. Foxes, in this world, have no concept of monogamy, but he counsels both parties to "play together" to foster intimacy even as partner-sharing will be expected.

As to the plot, Sawyer's domination of the shifters on his mountain has become a stress and burden, one he's willing to share with Dillon. Thing is, being with Dillon, and observing Dillon's management of his merry band of sexy shifters, Sawyer begins to recognize that domination isn't always necessary and that mutually beneficial partnerships might could be the best policy. It's worth exploring, in any case, as a cougar threat looms on the horizon. Also, this hardened Urso surely benefits from the TLC he gets from Dillon and his buddies. Furthermore, the traditional ban on interspecies loving seems antiquated in this new progressive management strategy; it's removal is fully applauded by those randy foxes!

Expect roughly 65% of the book to be sexytimes. And the rest is a rather simple plot that's engaging and interesting. I'd re-read this in a hot second.

Irresistible. The blurb for this latest release from Eden Winters, that is. Since I'm a complete and utter shifter whore, it stood to reason that I was going to latch right on to this adventure. Of course the promise of ménage sex didn't hurt any. *grins*

Sawyer. The lone bear who owns the mountain and, essentially, is alpha to all of the shifters within his territory. A job chock full of responsibility and the inability to ever let his guard down. Dillon. A young bear shifter who left home, tired of shifter politics and the repressed rules within his sleuth. Jerry and Kevin. Wolf shifter cousins who were thrown out of their pack at a young age because their alpha recognized their growing power. Brad. Fox shifter whose skulk was killed by coyotes who wanted their land. They left Brad alive claiming he was too weak to be of any consequence.

Sawyer has found them, living on the edge of his territory, and he recognizes the power in each of them and their potential usefulness if he can get them to serve him. Of course, after just going at it with all four of them, he's definitely found one way they can serve. But Sawyer owns a large construction company and has interests in other ventures as well. His current second-in-command, Rudy, is alpha of the wolf pack under Sawyer, but with the right training, Jerry could take that position and prove to be more loyal than Rudy ever has been. As you can see, there are a lot of ideas and cunning running through that bear’s mind.

2.5 stars - rating up because I knew what I was walking into and went for it anyway.
I almost dismissed this book entirely when I first glanced at the cover and saw the title, rarely the thing I go for nowadays. Then out of the corner of my eye I saw the author's name...Eden Winters. This author has gotten five straight 5 stars ratings out of me with Lucky and Bo(!!!), one of my favorite m/m couples of all time, in her Diversion series. I've more than enjoyed many of her other stories, as well. I HAD to give it a try. I read the blurb, skimmed through a couple of reviews and made sure I was in the mood for smut.
I like to see authors put out different things and Ms. Winters probably had a blast writing this but I was still overwhelmed with sex and underwhelmed otherwise. Not many things worked for me here and the ones that did were few and far between. I still look forward to more wonderful stories from her in the future but will make sure to steer clear from this type of story.

This is one of the hottest shifter books I’ve ever read. You want sex in your erotic romance? A Bear Walks Into a Bar has it times 1000.
Sawyer is a bear shifter. He is powerful in so many ways, not just in his strength. Sawyer owns Ballentine Mountain, where in his human form he planned to carefully develop as a rustic vacation site for tourists. Sawyer is also the Urso of the area. This means he is the leader of the local sleuth. Except Sawyer is the only survivor of a sleuth that was wiped out years ago by a pack of wolf shifters. The wolves who are left are not particularly trustworthy and now two new ones have moved onto his mountain, along with another bear shifter and a fox shifter. None of them seem to know the first thing about how to exist as a shifter. What they do know is how to have sex. Lots of it, with each other or whomever happens to come by. And they’ve opened a bar. And the local elk shifter herd don’t seem to like them one bit and have a particularly repellant way of showing it.
The amount of sex in this book exceeds what you might normally find in an erotic romance. I mean, it’s on, in pairs, threesomes, foursomes, and orgies. The more the merrier, with sex used not only to express affection but also to show power and control. There’s even BDSM and a closeted submissive. Yet, there is also a plot, so Ms. Winters does tie it all together in her usual brilliant fashion. At one point the Lobo of the wolf pack mentions that the possums are stubborn and difficult to control, subtly bringing a hint of Ms. Winter’s delightful shifter story, Naked Tail, although those characters never appear in this book.
The main theme of the book is winter is setting in and a bear’s gotta hibernate. Hibernate doesn’t mean sleep for months. It means retreat into the protection of a cave and sleep for 16 or so hours a day, eat a little, have sex when it’s available, and in Sawyer’s case somehow retain control of the shifters on his mountain. Oh, and “cave” doesn’t necessarily mean a hole in the rocks. Sawyer’s luxurious lair has to be described to understand. I particularly loved that.
I recommend this book for those who love reading about shifters learning to be proper shifters, about the political aspects of shifter colonies, and particularly for those who love reading about men having lots of sex with lots of other men. This one is hotter than the sun, even in the dead of winter.

Too Much Sometimes when I notice chatter about a certain book or author on various book sites I just read the book without researching what the book is about and what everyone thinks about it. Well I like Eden Winters and her other shifter read Naked Tails was one of the most fun, memorable books I'd read that year. Well A Bear Walks Into a Bar had all of the potential a book could have for me to love but - I hate when I have to say this - Christ on a Cracker there was way, way, way too much sex. If there had been as much story and character development as sex I would have been on board. I would have backed Winters unflinchingly for all times but when I think 'please no more' its too much sex. When I take a break a 50% and read something else then finish A Bear, its too darn much sex. Wait, what make that so annoying is Winters writes a good, solid sex scene. I loved the Bear, Wolf, Fox, Elk dynamic. I wanted to see how they all survive the new type of pack hierarchy they developed. I will read my next Eden Winters book with pride but this one was too much for this lusty reader

Not sure when I downloaded this one but I’ve glossed over it numerous times for something else. Now I’m currently reading short stories until I find something really good to read.

It had plot and then there was sex. Lots and lots of shifter sex. Couple sex, group sex, punishment sex. Felt like a HFN ending because of troublesome wolves and cougars. Favourite pairing was Jerry and Troy. Good book but pretty much m/m shifter group sex.

OMG! Third time reading but still shocked…So many shifters, so many orgies. And we are talking about orgies with mixed shifter types. Not just a threesome, but at times five to eight joining in. Yet, I have to say the cutest of the five or six main characters is Brad. The fox shifter has no shame in his sexual appetites, but he was the one who shifted into his fox animal the most. Overall, the main jest is the forming of their own family on community on their mountain. If you like a lot of shifter porn-erotica, this book will meet your needs.

2016 Rainbow Awards Honorable Mention: A Bear Walks Into a Bar by Eden Winters
This book was incredible! I haven't read any of Winters' shifter books before, and I am actually liking it more than her contemporary! While maintaining some common shifter lore aspects, this book took on a whole new twist to a stale genre. The four young shifters made a family, and they cared for each other in a rolling tumble of fun and love, protecting each other and showcasing true friendship. Dillon, the young bear, needs a safe place to hibernate, and they think they might have a place to lay low when BAM! this big, sexy alpha bear saunters into the bar where they work, and chaos reigns! The background plot of territorial tensions was great, and the addition of elk shifters made this a fresh experience in an overwhelmed shifter genre.

Shifters, politics and porny poly-sex tinged with humor. Emphasis on porny poly-sex. Be in the mood for this when you start, because really, that's all you're going to get. Sure, why not?

3.5 Stars that I'm rounding up because I did find myself really enjoying this one. My rating system is really dependent on rating the type of book against others of its' type. And well this is definitely PWP with a lot of orgies and a ton of sex. But once you accept that sex is essential in this world of shifters it's clear to see where the actual caring comes in and why for once sex with other partners doesn't bother me.

This book uses sex as a way of communication and sex doesn't just mean love and commitment. In this shifter world, it's used for dominance, to show affection, to strengthen bonds, to punish. But I felt like there was a good delineation of when sex was just sex and when there was more of a connection between two people.

Still this is definitely a book of pretty much nothing but sex with a little bit of shifter politics thrown in. I did enjoy this though and would look to read more in the series in the future. Definitely have to be in the mood for a bit of kink though.

Oh geez. I don’t even know what to do with this book…. The plot is so vague it’s hard to rate and review it!

What I got out of this book, as far as an actual plot goes, is that Sawyer, a bear shifter, is all alone on a mountain, trying to keep a mess of various shifter groups from killing each other. His bear family, or sleuth, were wiped out by a pack of wolf shifters, he took out the ones that did it and hired the alpha to work for his company. I think? So there are four shifters of some sort that have recently moved to his mountain and he needs to go check them out and decide if he wants to assimilate them or run them off. This has to be done before Sawyer goes in to hibernation mode for the next several months. Basically sleeping, eating, and either fucking, if he has someone hibernating with him, or masturbating if he doesn’t. So he leaves his company in the hands of his alpha wolf shifter and heads off to visit the bar the other shifters seem to be using. Where he meets Dillon the bear, Brad the fox, and Jerry and Kevin who are both wolves. Turns out they own the bar. Three of them leave, Dillon staying behind to close the bar, and fuck Sawyer, who he thinks is just a hot man. They fuck, go back to the house the men share, and fuck, fuck, fuck.

Basically it’s Sawyer trying to unite a random group of shifters, not just the four new guys, but a bunch of elk, the wolves, some foxes, and bunch of other various shifters, by sex. Lots of sex. He also takes on the four new comers, accepting them in to his “family”. But that’s it for the plot. What this really is, is a fuck-fest of epic proportions. There is massive amounts of shifter sex, swapping partners, leaking holes, poly-sex, no romance, no commitment, only the occasional bit of emotion, very little clean up, and at the very end some actually mate bonding. I actually stopped to check the word count on the word “fuck”, it shows up in several formats 307 times in a 181 page book. That’s pretty impressive! There are some couples that do form a bond, Sawyer and Dillon being the main pair, and Dillon’s buddies find some one to bond with as well. So I guess there is some emotional connection there, but they all just keep fucking each other regardless of the bonding.

So I don’t really know how to rate this book. I couldn’t even read some of the sex scenes, it was just way too much and way over the top. I got bored and skimmed through them, looking for some drama, some plot, something other than sex. I really do like reading the sex scenes normally, I love me some erotica, but this was just too much. What plot there was I liked, I think, the basic concept anyway. I love shifter stories, and love ones with multiple species of shifters. I liked the idea of trying to bring this big random group together as a united pack. I got it, I really did, but there was just too much fucking. Wow. I can’t even believe I’m saying that.

If you like your books with 80% sex to 20% plot you may well love this book. I prefer a more balanced book. I didn’t hate this one, but I just can’t give it a high rating. Every time I though there would be a bit of actual plot development, or an emotional scene, two pages later there was fucking. I mean, it was fun, it had some quirky characters, I liked the guys in it, and it had some sweet moments, I certainly didn’t hate it. But if I hadn’t been reading it for review, I would have gotten bored and stopped by 20% or so.

Not a bad book if you like massive amounts of totally unrealistic sex, if you do like that, more power to you, I say buy this book and go for it. If you want some plot, well…. maybe skip this one!

I think this one was my bad...

Somewhere in my brain I decided that because I really like Eden Winters and I loved her book 'Naked Tails' it was about 'possum shifters. It was funny and well written and just a hella' good read and because this books title sounds like the opening to a good joke...right, I mean how many times have we heard them...'a man walks into a bar...' 'three men walk into a bar...' 'a priest, a lawyer and a doctor walk into...' no, wait that was a boat but you get my drift right. So now we have 'A Bear Walks Into a Bar' I saw that and I laughed. How could this not be funny and good...apparently it can happen.

I also have to admit I was a bit of a victim to shiny cover syndrome...you know where you look at the book cover and go "Oh pretty, must have" so I bought it and it's pretty much down hill from there my friends.

Yes, the bear did walk into the bar and he did it after he went over the mountain...so to speak. Actually he owned the mountain. Apparently Sawyer is the last remaining bear in his Sleuth and he rules his world with an iron fist to the point where he now controls all of the different animal groups living on his land including the wolf pack that basically wiped out his family and how does he does this you might ask...well isn't this obvious? With sex of course. Yep, he just f*cks them all into submission, ok that might be simplifying it a tiche but really not much. It would seen that bear shifters are very sexual creatures. Especially when they hibernate...sleep, eat, f*ck, rinse and repeat.

But nothing and I do mean nothing holds a candle to those foxes...holy moly those little critters make the bunnies look like monks...abstinent monks. Seriously I'm exhausted just reading about it...and reading about it...and reading about it...

I honestly have been pondering what to say on this one since I finished the book yesterday. I mean seriously I freaking love Eden Winters and not loving one of her books just seemed like such a foreign concept to me...unheard of I tell you. Her Diversion series is an absolute favorite of mine and I've thoroughly loved a number of her stand-alone books...did I mention Naked Tails? I actually resorted to peeking at some of the current reviews and I noticed one that said there was no plot and I have to admit I can see where that may have seemed to be the case for me it felt more like the plot got lost in an orgy somewhere...

I still really like Ms Winters, but just not this book. What I learned was that funny titles does not always equal funny story and foxes are horny little critters...damned. So the bear may have walked into the bar but next time I think I'll leave him there.

2.5 stars rounded down because that 1/2 star was really just for the title and the cover :(

Hrm...how to sum this book up. A 'PWP' book for sure! There is a lot of sex in this book, but pairings to care about too which made me continue with the book when I might have otherwise quit it. Its a fun story, lots of ridiculous sex chatter 'oh yeah'! 'oh damn!', and so on. But it was also a fun read, with the dynamics of the Big Bear taking on all the other shifters, taking them under his wing, into his bed and ultimately into his care. The part at the end when he met with all the animals and the possum passed out actually made me stop and reread, I kept laughing so much. But...BUTT there are a LOT of characters to keep track of, and some storylines (haha) got pushed to the side and didn't exactly resolution. I also think the author developed a soft spot for Eric and Rudy, they got an implied hea, more so than some of the main characters. Overall its a good read if you don't look to hard. I did have trouble sticking with it a couple times but that was probably due to things going on IRL keeping me busy. Solid three stars.

The writing isn't bad, but the book is one long sex scene. I would say maybe 80% sex and 20% plot. This is nothing like the other stories I've read from this author.

I'm still on the fence about Sawyer. I just didn't warm up to him - he felt almost too alpha and it turned boastful and annoying at times.

Couples in this universe are committed but never exclusive. The alpha can (and does) fuck everybody. Sex is used as a punishment, a show of dominance, bonding, marking/claiming, but mostly because the alpha can't keep it in his pants. (He's not alone. Characters in this story spend very little time in pants, period.)

If you're looking for well written porn with a story woven through I highly recommend this.

If you need your MCs to be exclusive, and prefer stories heavy on plot and romance you should probably skip this one.

Hairy, Furry Smut!

I usually avoid shifter stories. But I did enjoy Eden Winter's Diversion series and the title and cover caught my eye. Then the reviews sealed the deal. This was just fun to read. You could extrapolate all kinds of allegorical meanings for the hierarchies and the power plays, but they're pretty much expressed as sex. A very, very, very large amount of sex. So, if you want some smutty escapism, this is just the ticket.

Lots of sex and tons of heart

This book turned out much different than I expected. I thought I was getting two bear shifters finding each other but I got so much more. I loved the multiple relationships developing alongside Sawyer coming to terms with his destiny as Urso. I don't want to give anything away but I really loved the way things came together.

I got 18% into this one before I had to stop. There's just too much sex and not enough emotional connection for me to enjoy it. Maybe I'll get around to finishing it one day but in the meantime, I won't leave a rating either way.

Sex, sex, and a bit more sex, with a side of emotional attachment

For starters, don't go into reading this book unless you expect what it is; m/m erotica. And we're talking can't go two pages without having sex, plenty of orgies, sex is the cornerstone, erotica. If you go in expecting that you can enjoy this book, because that is aha!endlessly what it was and I found it quite enjoyable.

There isn't cheating in this book because relationships aren't traditional. Sex is many things amongst shifters: a welcome, a party, an assessment, a reassurance, power, safety, balance, and even punishment. So, in a way the characters are in open relationships whereupon they have someone they care for most, but they partake in the orgies with everyone. It is a very polyamorous sort of life but it (mostly) works for this story.

There is a plot running through all of the sex going on. At first, I wasn't really liking where it was going. It seemed the book was going to be about four shifters, kicked out by their respective groups, who had come to make a life together by running a bar, subsequently getting split up by the head shifter where they settled, and getting taught to be ruthless alphas. But as we learn more about Sawyer we see that his plan isn't about making them heartless, but bringing stability and peace to the mountain, and you start to get behind the plan. Then, as Sawyer gets to know Dillon and his friends, that plan shifts again, and deeper caring begins to shape their future. I enjoyed this turn of events and found that it worked well with the rest of the story. A bit of intrigue in a story of erotic liaisons, a nice quick read!

I found this book entertaining, if nothing else. I have to imagine the author listing the characters and then calculating all of the possible permutations. And most every permutation is covered here, too!

In the world of A Bear Walks Into a Bar, shifters are a secret from the rest of modern society. It appears that shifters are all variety of mammals - bears, wolves, elk, cougars, rabbits, and more. The shifters are tribal within their species and all look upon one another with suspicion. Sawyer is the bear in charge of them all and has to deal with the different factions. So that sets up the plot, and indeed covers most of the plot in the book.

What fills the rest? Pure, unadulterated smut. Which is just fine by me, but it doesn't make for a particularly deep reading experience. To be clear, the book is literally 75% sex scenes and 25% plot. The characters are fun, though, and the situations are damn hot. Dillon is adorable, a shy caregiver type. Sawyer is the big gruff alpha who is learning that maybe he doesn't have to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders. And then there's Brad, the fox shifter. He's cute, he's insecure, and if he doesn't have at least one orifice filled he's probably asleep. (Furries may nod knowingly here.)

Plot-wise I'd give this a 3 out of 5, but for entertainment value I'd give it a 5. Let's take an average and call it a rating of 4. Enjoy!

DNF at 30%. I did not ask for much and did not expect much from this story. All I was looking for is some fun, light, smutty poly erotica. Thought that this could be it from the blurb and reviews. But then that alpha bear a**hole had to explain how he must be this macho cruel bastard because of reasons, and fuck/kill adversaries because of more reasons (I know, I know, "for the good of the pack", but the truth is that his pack never chose him as leader, shouldn't care much if he was or wasn't as he was mostly forcing himself on people who hate him/are unrelated to him for the sake of revenge for his dead pack).
And obviously all the other MCs are going to adore him to death because he's hot, even though he's really a control freak psychopath bully (no, shifters aren't excused for bestial behavior in my book). So, not for me.

Good Concept. Not Enough Story.

A difficult book for me to rate.

I like shifter stories. I loved the concept of many different types of shifters joining together as one large pack. The characters reflected their animal natures. This was worth the most stars. The editing was good with just a couple of errors that stopped my reading. I enjoy stories with Love and passion among these or more sexy men. It is not usual for me to say there was to much sex. The minutia of detail became too much. Every encounter was recounted in depth. Every one. Some could have been highlighted while others covered in detail. I wanted more of the story of all these different shifters becoming one large family/pack. I liked the concept but wanted more substance. I never thought I would ever complain about too much sex.
