Riding the Reaper: A Spicy Straight to Gay Romance
Death never looked this good.
Halloween night. Freshly dumped by my girlfriend in front of the whole party. And now there’s a Grim Reaper in the woods telling me he’s here to collect my soul.
Sure, buddy. Great costume.
But I’m enjoying his little roleplay. And secretly, this six-foot-seven tower of muscle in that dark robe is exactly what I’ve been craving. I’ve spent years fantasizing about a big dude stretching me open. I just never had the guts to admit it out loud.
And hey, I’m about to die, right? So maybe he can give me one last ride before I go.
Halloween Temptations Multi-Author Series
This Halloween, carve out some time to enjoy some frightfully spicy stories. Don’t be afraid, the forest may be dark, but it’s full of many eerie-sistible monsters. Are they real? Or is it a trick? Our boys will find out - and if they also find love? They’re in for a real treat.

“So if these are really my last few minutes…” I reach out and brush the sleeve of his robe. “I’d love to find out if that cock of yours actually works.”
What if the only thing on your bucket list was getting fucked? When Sam finds out that he's down to his last minutes to live, there's only one thing on his mind.... he wants to get plowed by Graventhor, the stupid-hot reaper who has come to collect his soul. Of course, he thinks the whole reaper/imminent death thing is a Halloween prank, but a man's gotta shoot his shot amirite? 🫦
“Dude, look at you. You’re like six-seven, built like a brick shithouse, that deep-ass voice. And you’ve got a dick you’ve never used?” I let out a low whistle. “That’s criminal.”
Sam bets Gray that he can get him hard, and I bet none of you will be surprised that even though Gray loses that bet, there's only winners here, baby!
A reaper does not want. A reaper does not feel. We’re not supposed to have a stake in the outcome. But I do. I want him. This stubborn, reckless, beautiful mortal. Not for a minute. Not for an hour. For as long as I can keep him.
What happens next is the most romantic hole-plowing Lucas Blaze has given us yet. There's a doomed man getting his last wish and then some, finally discovering who he really is. There's a reaper who has been cold and remote, rediscovering the joys that have been forbidden to him for a long ass time. These two have been STARVING for each other, and didn't even know it 🥰
Is that what happens when a reaper breaks the rules? All that suppressed intensity comes pouring out in one glorious, hole-ruining fuck. I love it. I live for it. I want him to keep talking to me like that, rough and dirty, until my brain melts and leaks out of my ears.
I'm the first person to hate on multi-author series because they generally suck, and are filled with books by authors I have on my Nope List. However, I loved this book and that it was a complete standalone. Assuming the rest of the books are like this, you can pick and choose, reading as many (or as few) as you like and not miss a thing. I'm loving the intro to spooky season 💀🖤.
As always I appreciate Lucas's books for their trademark humour, heat and huge dicks. Since the reaper picks the way he manifests, don't tell me Gray didn't know what he was doing when he appeared as a gorgeous mountain of a man. We see you Gray, and we salute you 😂.
I can feel your soul from the inside.” His teeth graze my earlobe. “It’s burning through me.”

🎃💀 Lucas Blaze's first dip into the paranormal - Human x Reaper 💀🎃
4✨
Wow, impressed with the bit of world-building done in 60 pages.
I really liked the the Reaper character, nicknamed 'Gray'.
A decent bit of story in this one both before and after the spice.
And the spice is hot as always, well done imo and decently long.
This is part of a multi-author series.
I'd recommend this if you're looking for a fun, spicy, paranormal Halloween read.
Thank you Booksprout for this ARC. This is a voluntary rating and review, all opinions give are my own.
mid-read
Almost finished.
It's Blaze, so you already know it's well written.
The paranormal aspect is actually super interesting.
About to get to the spice and I'll be back with the full rating and review

I'm actually impressed: first attempt into the paranormal universe and Lucas Blaze nailed it!
In just a few pages he was able to set up a paranormal world with his rules and roles and also to build a connection between a reaper, Graventhor, and a young man, Sam.
Since Graventhor is a reaper, the reader can already imagine the plot of the story: he comes to collect Sam's soul and to help him to go over the Veil. But since it's Halloween night and Sam is quite pissed off because of how his girlfriend dumped him and also very frustrated because he has some sexual fantasies he's eager to fulfill, Graventhor's appearance doesn't have the intended effect. Sam believes that the huge man in front of him, with a scythe and a robe with a hood over his head is just a sort of prank.
But when something happens and Sam starts to believe his time on Earth is really expiring, he's even more determined to seduce Gray until they have sex.
Their intercourse is obviously very very steamy, but what I appreciated the most were the changes in Gray's body. Not going to tell more to avoid spoilers.
And finally, finally!, Lucas Blaze gives us an epilogue set further than the usual 3 month! I loved the author's choices for them: Gray's new job, Sam's studies and their little home.
Everything was just perfect.

Is this my new favourite Lucas Blaze book?! Because this was SO much fun! If Lucas wanted to write 800 more paranormal romances just like this.. I’d be all over it! FULL RTC 👻
——————————————
I can’t think of a single other author who could say “hey I wrote this book about a guy who wants to be boned by the grim reaper” and have me signing up for an ARC as fast as I did 🤣 if Lucas writes it, I’m reading it. Period.
These two were so much fun! I was laughing out loud at several parts over Graventhor’s dry sense of humour and internal thoughts 💀 and Sam just continuing to think this is some guy dressed up in a Halloween costume and really committing to the act just had me howling 😝
These two were so hot, so fun, and honestly? Yeah. Hell ya. I’d read a whole book or two about these two again. I had the best time ! Oh, and their HEA is so sweet of course. As always. If you’re not out here reading Lucas Blaze.. what are you doing? 🖤
“If anyone ever tells me heaven is a bunch of angels sitting on clouds playing harps, I’ll laugh in their face. This is heaven. Right here. A c*ck so deep in my a** I can taste it. Tell me this isn’t what it’s for. Why else would it feel this good? Why else would there be a pleasure button inside me that only a d*ck can reach? No, this is how it’s supposed to be. A man taking another man.”

My first Lucas Blaze novella. I didn’t find the sex particularly hot but I found the story sweet and was surprised that there was some humor there. Easy way to pass a little time.

HOLY FUCK. 🥵🔥 What a ride it was! Lol
This is one of my favorite novellas this year.
GRAVENTHOR and SAM
“I have unfortunate news for you,” he continues. “Well, tonight’s already a total disaster, so sure. Hit me.” I cross my arms. What a weirdo.
“I am a grim reaper. And I’m here to collect your soul. You only have minutes left to live.”........
“So if these are really my last few minutes…” I reach out and brush the sleeve of his robe. “I’d love to find out if that cock of yours actually works.”
“Is this where you wanted me, Sam?” All while his hips piston into me. I try to answer, I really do, but all that comes out is a strangled garble of vowels. My cock bobs between my legs, forgotten, leaking a steady stream of precum onto the hay. I don’t even need to touch myself. He’s literally fucking it out of me. I could come just from this. From the fullness, the pressure, the way his breath keeps catching like he can’t believe what’s happening to him.

OMG!!!!
There are some novellas that are just perfect being novellas then there are some that I wish were longer because I need more! This is one that I needed more of!!
Sam and Gray are soooo dang hot! 🥵🔥 Jeez! Sam has the right idea! I mean if you are gonna die anyways why not seduce the grim reaper that came to collect your soul!
For as spicy and hot as this book was the end was really cute and sweet too! ❤️

3.5⭐️A fun, pre-Halloween spicy read, though it's not quite at this author's peak spice level. That said, I'd argue it hits peak humor—so many of the sarcastic punchlines genuinely made me laugh out loud. Look at this quote, which I bet would have every corporate-slave 😂:
I rarely read paranormal, let alone paranormal erotica, but the vibe of this one was quite nice. The premise is pretty fun too. Who would have thought that getting your rocks off right before the death countdown could alter your destiny?😉
However, this doesn't really count as a 'straight-to-gay' awakening. Sam doesn't have a single straight bone in his body and chases Gray's 🍆 way too fast, so it misses out on that classic, hilarious trope: 'Why am I enjoying this so much? I'm supposed to be straight!'
"I can’t believe you still have to work after you die. Will this shit never end?"

Wow...this was good. Somewhat straight Sam coming to his truth when meeting Gray the reaper. This is the second book in this multi author series I have read and so far so great. I love the banter...I love that it's 2 POV...getting both Sam and Gray's thoughts and feelings. The climax was unpredictable which was great...their situation/relationship didn't feel rushed...great monster/holiday romance. Love that there was an epilogue and wasn't just cut off with a HFN...this couple definitely had a HEA. I definitely recommend. Can't read more in this series.

Sam got dumped by his girlfriend at a Halloween party and when he goes outside to have a smoke, he is followed by the Grim Reaper, Graventhor and has less than 30 minutes to live. Sam wants to be dominated and taken by a man and even though the Reaper knows its against his code, he fulfills his wish. It's sassy and steamy and still has a HEA, not a Halloween trick but a treat. I received a copy of this through BookSprout and this is my voluntary opinion.

cute moments (yes, even though spicy), overall liked it! though hit a couple things I’m an anti-fan of so more like a 3.5
yay:
- world-building worked—I wanted more, but it’s a short story so it was a reasonable amount
- Sam and Gray made me actually laugh out loud (see excerpts below)
- they were cute together, I wasn’t sure about their chemistry at first but Gray (literally?) thawed
- Gray’s “I’m having a system error” when he feels emotions is such an Autistic thing to say (I don’t think he’s intended to be Autistic, it’s just a very relatable thing to say)
- I actually can’t remember the last time I read a bald MC; not that I have a preference personally, just refreshing to see something different. particularly since paranormal/fantasy usually has an MC with extremely long flowing magical hair
- the soul light thing kept catching me off guard (in a good way) bc it was adorable and this is a spicy meatball kind of book
“I want him to ride my face like the last bus out of town.” (listen this was funny but it took me right out)
“You’re a bad influence, Gray.”
“Well, I am Death,”
“Saved from one falling limb only to be impaled by another.”
“Sometimes I come home and find him staring at a pigeon on the windowsill, fully transfixed.”
*I didn’t really get Gray’s invisibility thing. no one but Sam would see him, but he had a physical body and affected his environment just like a normal human would. so how would it work if he did have to go into the barn to collect Sam? only Sam would see him, but would people be bumping into him the whole time? would he have enough room to swing the scythe, or would that be after Sam died and he could take his soul outside the barn to cross the Veil? if a human from the party had gone into the hay barn while they were having sex, would they see Gray at that point or would it look like Sam was bouncing naked on nothing?
anyway. it didn’t really matter but I still wonder how it works
boo:
- smoking is so gross for so many reasons, plus I’m asthmatic and get nauseated whenever I smell it (I can smell it on you if you hug someone who’s been smoking and then come near me an hour later). so MC smoking like 3 paragraphs in put me off, and then again each time it was referenced. ofc he stopped once he got a dick in his mouth so that worked out for both of us lol
- the countdown. look. I’m time-blinder than a time-bat. but the minute countdown just did not line up with how long the actions/dialogue in between would take (or at least, not until the spicy part started, and timing for that stuff is always ambiguous—as it should be)
- reading a scene and then reading the events again from a different POV is really annoying to me. it rarely adds something that only works simultaneously. I didn’t hate it here, though I didn’t think it was necessary, either
- this line is just. no. “I feel like I’m pissing cum, that’s how strong the release is.”

Part of a fun-filled, multi-author Halloween series of standalones...
I loved this one. Completely. The writing was SO GOOD, I devoured this in one sitting. I mean, it's short, but I've been struggling with reading nonstop for years. Not this time! Lol
Sam gets dumped and wanders the woods. There, he meets a grim reaper. He thinks the guy is messing with him so he proposes his deeper desire as he "waits for his death."
Gray feels something for the first time in...a while. When Sam bends over and offers up some fun, he goes against everything he was taught and saves him...then fucks him.
Y'all, so hot! And sweet! And that ending was SO SATISFYING. I'm definitely going to have to read more from this author!

I feel alive, more alive than I have all night. More alive than I have in years. I look him up and down. That towering frame. He’s fucking massive. The thoughts I’m having about him right now. I’ve been fighting those for years.
—
He reaches back with his free hand and spreads himself open. I see everything. The tight furl of his hole, dusky pink, clenching under my gaze. The smooth skin beneath, his balls hanging full between his thighs. It’s an offering. Brazen and vulnerable all at once.
—
What feels real, what feels immediate, is him. The life pouring off him in waves. The warmth of flesh I can almost taste. He’s beautiful. Stubbornly, defiantly alive. And in a few minutes, all of this will be gone. Reduced to a flicker of light I’ll carry back through the Veil.
—
He drags his tongue through the sweat on my neck, and I shudder. “You’re melting me, Sam,” he growls against my ear. “Every inch of you. So tight. So warm. I can feel your soul from the inside.” His teeth graze my earlobe. “It’s burning through me.”
—
I lift him gently off my lap, my release following in a warm rush. A sight that sends a possessive thrill through me. Mine. For this one stolen moment, he was mine.

YES YES YES!! I LOVED THIS! 😍🔥
It really is exactly what it says on the tin — Riding the Reaper — and oooooo, did he know how to do that! 🥵💀🔥
I absolutely LOVED Sam and Graventhor. Their connection was EVERYTHING, and the chemistry between them? 🔥🔥🔥 Let’s just say Graventhor definitely wasn’t wasting any time collecting Sam’s soul! 😂
Sam is a guy who has spent so much of his life trying to be the person everyone else expects him to be. Then along comes the Reaper, who is literally there to take his soul, and somehow gives Sam something he’s never really had before — the freedom to be himself, make his own choices and finally do what he wants.
And that connection between them… WOW. 🥵 There’s something about the darkness of Graventhor mixed with Sam finally finding his confidence that just WORKED.
I loved the mystery, the emotion, the banter, the chemistry and, obviously, the spice! 🌶️🌶️🌶️
This one had me hooked from beginning to end — and honestly, I wouldn’t mind Graventhor coming to collect my soul either. 😉💀🔥

I loved this one! A reaper being the sweetest thing ever wasn’t something I was expecting.
Sam was dumped by his girlfriend on Halloween in front of everyone. Apparently, dumping him wasn’t enough, she had to humiliate him in front of the whole town as well.
Upset and angry, he takes a walk in the woods to cool off and that’s when he encounters the grim reaper. Sam thinks being told he only has minutes to live is a joke and as such, he decides to be bold and asks for what he wants.
Gray is trying to do his job as a reaper but something about Sam’s situation makes him feel sorry for the guy. A feeling a reaper shouldn’t experience yet he does.
Sam lets Gray know that all he wanted was to know what it feels like to be with a guy but all it got him was getting dumped. And if he was going to die, he wanted Gray to be the one that made it happen for him.
Gray was supposed to guide Sam to his death, not want to grant him one last wish. He wasn’t supposed to feel his non existent heart beat in his chest at the thought of being with Sam, yet all of it was happening.
Disobedience wasn’t in his nature but this time, he’d throw caution to the wind and give in to temptation, consequences be damned. Gray never imagined his transgression would make him the happiest man alive. Being with Sam changed everything he thought he knew and he wouldn’t let this opportunity pass.
Sam was supposed to be dead. He wasn’t supposed to survive, much less find the love of his life in the process. Who knew death could bring him ever he’d ever wanted.

Sam Calloway pulled the hood off of his skeleton costume and stomped out of the barn where the Halloween party was taking place. His girlfriend had balked at the strap-on play he requested but she had waited until the party they went to together to dump him publicly in the most humiliating way possible. He pushed into the woods and moved farther along the trail so he could smoke one after another. When he finally realized he was lost and stopped to relieve himself on a tree he thought the man that appeared behind him was in a Halloween reaper costume.
Graventhor told Sam he was the Grim Reaper there to collect his soul in 30 minutes, but Sam wouldn’t believe him, still convinced it was a guy in a costume. Sure, the guy was 6’7 and built, but still just a guy. And so Sam saw a golden opportunity to get what he had been after and pulled his costume to his knees. Graventhor had never felt any emotions in his reapers body, and he had collected thousands of souls. But right now there was a stirring that should not be happening.
Reaper is a 16k word erotic short story. Slightly different that Lucas’ usual stuff, released as part of the multi-author series Halloween Temptations. It is a paranormal spicy fun poke at death themes. I gave it a five.

"Can I call you Gray?”~Sam “I’d prefer you didn’t.”~Gray “Gray it is.”~Sam
“I am a grim reaper. And I’m here to collect your soul. You only have minutes left to live.”~Graventhor(This had me giggling).
“Did you fornicate with the subject?”(~Morrigan) Sam snorts behind me. “Fornicate? Jesus. Yeah, lady. He fornicated me real good.”(~Sam about Gray).
Definitely going to have to read this entire series because I absolutely loved this book and I'm hoping the rest are just as good!!
I loved Sam and how he didn't take Gray seriously at all until the branch fell. And i absolutely loved how Sam just wanted one thing and went for it. Poor Gray didn't know what he was in for with Sam. 🤭🤭 I loved Gray and how he got so flustered because of Sam. I love how even he didn't know what his "human" body could do until it happened (blush, get warm, get hard).
I loved how fast paced and steamy this was while also being detailed. I love that it shows Sam's insecurities and shows us Grays thoughts. A 10/10!!

One thing I love about multiauthor collabs, is finding new authors. Lucas Blaze is new to me. His "Riding the Reaper" is a short novella, just the right length to get a taste of the author's style without committing to a monstrous 2-3 hundred pages.
Sam takes his girlfriend to the Halloween dance, and she publicly dumps him. He storms off, get lost in the woods. And meets his personal reaper, Gray.
With only twenty four minutes to live, Sam decides to seduce Gray. The build up to this point was all woe to me, Sam. That took up about twenty % of the story. Except for a epilogue, the rest of the book is pure spice. Steamy and kindle melting.
There's only 2 or 3 routes to a HEA, I enjoyed the author's choice. it's a quick, hot Spooky season tale.

Last year I loved reading books in this series, so I was happy there is a new series this year. I was having my fingers crossed that this book would be as good as the ones from last year and it certainly is.
I totally get why Sam doesn't believe that Gray is a real grim reaper, come on it is Halloween. And he is young so why would he have to die and from what?
I like it how he talks to Gray and dares him to make his last moments the best ones ever.
I didn't see this ending coming, but I like it a lot. But even more the stolen moments in the barn and how they react to each other. That was so steamy to read.
I like how Gray is taking care of his special job and not making it a worse but respectful. And I like how he is taking care of Sam.

**********Contains Spoilers**********
I’m new to Lucas Blaze’s work and I’m looking forward to reading more. I really enjoyed this novella and thought that it was a good addition to the multi-authored Halloween Temptation Series. For such a short read I didn’t feel like I was missing out on anything, as there was world building information and the epilogue was just the icing on the cake that I totally needed. I thought that Sam & Graventhor aka Gray were great together and their chemistry was off the charts. This book is a steamy love story between Sam, a human and Gray, the grim reaper who came to reap his soul. I’m looking forward to reading Shared with the Pack next, as well as more books from Lucas Blaze in the future. I’d recommend this novella, series and author the others.

Great Halloween read. The story takes place on Halloween, at a Halloween party, and features a Grim Reaper. This is much more than a token mention of a holiday. It’s the standard meet-bang-fall in love done well. The setup is solid, giving you a sense of each character. As always with a Lucas Blaze story, the sex scene is long and detailed and hot. There is a little conflict, just enough to make you worry for their HEA for a hot minute. Then a nice little wrap up to show that they are in fact happy and together in the future. If you are looking for something short and smutty to read for Halloween, this is a good way to go.

Sam just got dumped by his girlfriend at a Halloween party. He heads to the woods. Thats when he hears sound and turns around to find out who it is.
Graventhor is a grim reaper and he went to the party to reap a soul---Sam's.
They start to talk with Graventhor letting him know how many minutes he has left. Then Sam tells him about the break off and why. Then tells Graventhor what he wants.
Now that is something that has never happened before! Now what!!??
Well isn't that a surprising story!!!.

After being publicly dumped by his girlfriend, Sam is wandering the woods when Gravethon (Gray), a grim reaper, finds him. Sam talks him into giving him what he has always desired and Gray finds that he is not as immune to desires as he thought. This is a different take on the grim reaper and is super spicey with explicit MM scenes.

A Reaper To Die For
When Sam gets dumped at a Halloween party, he’s pretty upset. Finding out he’s about to die - well, that sucks. Getting to act on his one regret before he dies with Gravenor, the reaper? Seems like a solid idea to Sam! I really liked this story - I hadn’t read any by Lucas Blaze before, but the premise intrigued me, and the combo of heat-and-sweet was perfection! A terrific read.

Advance copy reader:
Thank you for the book Lucas!
I am willing leaving a review.
At first I was thinking it was a one night stand type of story, but I really loved the HEA that happened at the end. The way Brianna was lusting after Gray is hilarious because she is getting the short end of the stick 🤣

Riding the Reaper is about Sam and Graventhor. Sam gets dumped by his girlfriend at a Halloween party, so he goes to the woods, where he finds a man dressed as the Grim Reaper.
This was a really good, steamy and quick read. It's part of the Halloween Temptations multi-author series.
