For years Jeannette Sparks has been the quiet one, the Sparks who sticks to the sidelines, the one who doesn't make waves and the one everyone in town has called Nervous Nettie and when her high school boyfriend returns to town bringing with him a whole host of bad memories, Jeannette decides to take charge of the pathetic life she's been living and agrees to go out with Diego Rodriguez and Luc Kovach the two men who make up the town's paid firefighters and the two men who are known to only "date" women together. Diego and Luc have pursued Jeannette since they came to town and she's resisted, but once she says yes the two men are determined to show her just how good things can be between them.
It had been evident to me that Jeannette was hiding something and I wasn't all that surprised by her secret, but I have to give Diego and Luc credit for allowing her the time she needed to talk about it and with their unwavering support and patience. I really loved how both men seemed to understand her and both appealed to different sides of her and while that scared her it also made her stronger. Jeannette was also very intuitive when it came to Diego and Luc which just made their feelings for her even stronger.
Anytime there is a triad relationship there are bound to be some problems, but these three really meshed together well from the start and they were all really good about talking about their fears, issues and their unusual relationship.
This story was a bit more emotional than the previous books and tackled some hard issues, but it was every bit as sexy and satisfying if not more so including one heck of an epilogue (and I do so love an epilogue)!
3.5 RATING- There's wasn't anything spectacular about this menage romance but it hit some sweet spots for me (hot firefighter hero's, damsel in distress, etc). The writing was solid and I thought the story was well paced. I've read several books by this author and she doesn't delve into long, in depth stories, but she does do a good job with what she writes. An enjoyable, quick read.
Love, second chances, family, Luc and Diego are two hot firemen who moved into their small town a few years ago. Since day one, they asked Jeanette to go out, and she refused every time. Although she was wildly attracted to them, until she was threatened by danger they became her protectors.
What a sexy, short read this turned out to be! I haven't read any of the previous books in the Sparks in Texas series, but you can be sure that I'm going to remedy that real soon. I just love Mari's books, and this one is another great example of how she can write a steamy but yet adorably sweet books.
Jeannette has a deep secret she is hiding from everyone, especially her family, that has crippled her ability to engage in relationships. Despite this, Luc and Diego are on a mission 2 years in the making to make her theirs. These guys...seriously I have no words for how sweet they were while taking their time with Jeannette all while trying to help her reclaim her life. They were quite wonderful, and I just loved them to pieces. Jeannette, on the other hand, stole the show for me. She is such a strong character, and you can't help but admire her inner strength and determination to overcome her past. I loved the bit of suspense we get with the book as well, so overall it was a great read that I'm definitely going to suggest to you all.
Jeanette Sparks doesn't date. Like.....ever. Luc and Diego have made no secret of their joint interest in Jeanette ever since they came to town 3 years ago. Their way of life, sharing each other with a woman, is no secret. Jeanette just isn't sure what they see in her, or how they can possibly still be interested in trying to date her. What's not to love about two hot sexy firemen! Jeanette is forced to change her way of thinking once an arsonist sets her in their sites. Along comes Luc and Diego to save the day, as well as Jeanette and her cat. This book is hot hot hot and such a great story as well.
It made no sense for the female lead to go from pulling away to avoid being touched by these men to allowing them to physically drag her across the street to a bench and then loam over her. Given her history, she should have freaked out at minimum at being manhandled that way.
And it really didn't make any sense that a woman, who has tramped down any and all sexual attraction and avoided dating for fifteen frickin' years after being sexually assaulted as a teenager, would suddenly feel safe enough to go out with two men at the same time. Especially since she thought their dating one woman together was unnatural.
(Oh, and when the male leads asked why she couldn't believe they were into her, she should have replied with: 'Because when a man is honestly into a woman, they spend their time wooing her instead of out fucking every single woman in town' because that is what they have been doing in between flirting with her for the two years since they came to town.)
And then it got worse. And more contrived. And stupider.
I read to the end but the female lead's decisions continued to fly in the face of her fifteen year MO. Sorry but no one overcomes fifteen years of fear and repression that quickly and easily. And having another trauma piled on top would have definitely sent her running home.
And the confrontation between the female lead and her rapist was just ridiculous. So gross.
The male leads only had bare bones characterizations, their interest in her was built on one of the male lead's insta-lust after spotting her in the diner and there was no relationship-building as everything was focused on her trauma and the plot so why the male leads 'love' her is a mystery. I mean it's not like she is interesting or fun or even nice. She's just a bunch of issues wrapped up in repression.
Jeannette was known as a scared introvert, "Nervous Nettie", her whole life... and she was content to be that way, or so she had convinced herself.... She lived in a small town that's population consisted of mainly her relatives. Her parents died when she was 16 years old and she was taken in lovingly by her uncle and aunt, accepted as their own... then there was Billy, who had been her friend and then boyfriend, even though most made fun of her and her outward appearance. There was an abrupt break-up and Billy moving away... When the book begins "Nettie" is working at her relatives' diner, being around most everyone that she grew up with... and then there were Diego and Luc... hot and luscious outsiders, who moved to her small town as full time firefighters for their volunteer fire house. They have a reputation for being not only ladies men, but sharing their dates with only one woman... the idea appalled Jeannette, but still there was something about these two. The men in this town disgusted her, but these 2 did not...they asked her out frequently, but she never accepted... always content to live alone... then Billy and his big obnoxious brother, Scott show up at the diner, throwing "Nettie" into fear mode... she was holding onto a dark secret... after teasing from the local guys, Nettie is in flight mode... biding her time to get outta the diner... Scott then puts her over the edge as she tries to leave... Diego and Luc come to her rescue... and she reluctantly accepts a "date" with them... and so begins their story. Diego and Luc help bring her out of her shell, challenging her opinion of herself and them... thru their dating conversation, Jeannette hears about the series of fires in town recently on abandoned buildings and that they were possibly the work of a 'serial arsonist' gearing up for something worse.... theory turns into reality when Jeannette's house becomes the target. Although she escapes injury, her home is lost... as Diego and Luc rescue her from her burning home, they rescue her soul as well. The journey they then begin together is one of patience, kindness, acceptance and love. Jeannette always knew there was something more to their "friendship" and she was just the missing link to their "perfect family".
Jeannette has a full life working in the family restaurant with her sister and many cousins, and she even has her own home now, along with a stray cat she adopted. Although she appears to be happy, she is still lonely. She doesn't date, ever. And the men in Maris know it. But it doesn't change the draw Jeannette has to the handsome firefighter duo of Maris. Both Luc and Diego frequent her restaurant and the sweet, gentle flirting that they typically share with her is beginning to increase into something more, and Jennette is finding their constant request for a date harder to fight. Unfortunately, Jeannette has a secret, a past so horrific that even the idea of dating anyone, much less her two gorgeous firefighter friends, is completely off the table.
Luc and Diego have been the best of friends since they were teenagers. They have a unique relationship and most of the town of Maris suspects what it is but have ignored the idea since the two have devoted their lives to protecting and serving their small town. But ever since they walked in to the Sparks restaurant and laid eyes on Jeannette they've been drawn to her, wanted her. For all that, their is a deep appearance of sadness in the eyes of the only woman that they both care about. She has continuously rejected or made light of their every attempt to date her. However, when danger finds it's way to Maris and then to Jeannette the two men will stop at nothing to protect the woman they are both falling for.
Sweet story of deep sadness over a past terrible experience that has had Jeannette locked up emotionally and sexually. Can two men love her enough to help her heal and move on?
Includes scenes of abuse of 16 year old Jeannette, and sexual activity with m/m/f.
Aww...This was such a good book. My heart fell for Jeannette. She has been through so much.
Love a good story where the hero comes to save the damsel in distress. But this story has 2 heroes and they ride in a fire truck. Jeannette is a 31 year old woman who lives alone with her cat Penny. She lost her folks when she was younger and moved in with one of her uncle's and his family.
Jeannette works in the families famous BBQ restaurant Sparks BBQ and our 2 heroes Diego and Luc are common customer's that often eat there twice a day. All to get the attention of Jeannette. Jeannette is rather lonely as she hasn't dated since high school and that didn't turn out so good. Finally after hearing someone calling her Nettie again she decided to take her firemen up on the offer of a date. But all in the town know that Diego and Luc are known to share their women and Jeannette is curious but cautious. This story has loads of suspense as there is a serial arsonist and Jeannette has a secret she's keeping from the guys. Extremely hot and I get a kick out of the Sparks family members. I saw this on Facebook and had to read it. Glad that I did. Thank you Mary Carr.
Ugh! where do I start... The beginning of this book just dragged on, I found my self skimming thru it just to get to the interesting parts. I can't stand reading books about a wimpy, sappy, depressed heroin and that I got that with Jeannette. It took until almost the end of the book to explain why Jeannette was such a boring character, you get the gist of why she's the way she is but it's not really explained until almost the end. Another annoyance to this story is how do you go from a woman not having sex in years to starting a relationship with not one but two men, and how can she have the heroine getting all hot and heavy with her two hot men and then stopping them from going further then explaining to them about her past and immediately having sex with them. Don't get me wrong I actually loved Luc and Diego, I just didn't see how they were matched up with Jeannette I think a heroine with not such a depressing past would have changed my opinion on this book. I just found this to be a bit unrealistic and boring.
This was a great story by Mari Carr. I couldn't put it down. I loved every second of it.
Jeannette Sparks is shy and lonely. Lately, she has been struggling more but has resigned herself to being alone the rest of her life or as alone she can be with her large family. Luc and Diego have been asking her out for years but she doesn't believe that they really want her. They are the town's full time firefighters who have been dealing with more fires than normal. They believe that there may be an arsonist in Maris. Jeannette wants to change and the men are there to help her out. Things don't always go as easy as they would like though. She has a secret that is affecting her. When her house goes up with flames, they go into protective mode. Will they be able to keep her safe and help her overcome her fears?
Jeanette has always been known as Nervous Nettie, the shy Sparks girl who never dated anyone. Little did anyone know just what type of secret she was keeping, aside from the devastation of losing her parents at sixteen. Over the last few yrs firefighters Diego & Luc have been vying for her attention quite relentlessly I might add. Could she ever figure out how to outrun her past and find a happily ever after with them? Diego & Luc like to share their women, but they are keeping a big secret from Jeanette too. Just how will she react to their secret and can she overcome her fears and move forward & make a life with them? This story was really amazing and touched on a subject many tend to shy away from, however it was handled very graciously. Enjoy this book!
Something Sparked by Mari Carr is an amazing read. This is a fairly short read, a great choice for those with limited time for reading. Ms Carr has delivered a well-written book. Her characters are fabulous and lovable, a perfect fit for this story. This is a menage story though, so it may not be everyone's cup of tea. Jeannette, Diego and Luc's story is loaded with drama, humor, suspense and smokin' hot sex. I totally enjoyed Something Sparked and look forward to reading more from Mari Carr in the future. Something Sparked is book 2 of the Sparks In Texas Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
This is free, and the first kindle chapter sample wasn't terrible... but at 28% in, I must abandon it as inadequately written. While Jeanette is a well-developed (if constantly overstated and unrealistic) character, Luc and Diego are very minimal even this far in. They are props for her. That cheapens the whole story. In addition, constantly repeating the state of mind of the protagonist as if readers can't remember from one page to the next? That gets old very fast.
But for me, the cardboard guys was the killing ingredient. I mean, by book 3 one hopes a writer has upped their craft game. This is my first and last attempt with this author.
This was such a yummy read! Another absolute favorite added to my shelf. Admittedly I dove into this before starting the prequel, lol - the blurb was too enticingly exciting to wait to read after the first two books. I promise I will read the prequel and book 1 before hitting book 3, Waiting for Him. I give this book 5 cups, ☕☕☕☕☕, of scorching java! If you're into ménage à trois romance that burns like inferno fires that ends into HEA then this book is it. Just a forewarning though, this does have MM action involved - so if you don't like reading MM actions, then you will need to skip past this book.
Waiting for Her is the third book in the Sparks in Texas series, if you count the novella about a married couple. It can be read as a standalone book.
Jeannette has had a traumatic past that she didn't share with any of her large Sparks family. It has left her wary and unwilling to be in any relationship. Luc and Diego moved to their town a few years ago, as the only full time firemen. They haven't hidden their desire to be part of a ménage relationship from the town or stopped asking Jeannette out for a date.
Jeannette finally accepts their offer of a date to banish the "Nervous Nettie" image everyone has for her. Luc and Diego have no intention of ever letting her go now.
Jeanette has been living a very closed off no dating lice since high school. Her family always believed she was still grieving her parents and have left her alone about it. Luckily and Diego moved to town a few years ago and know Jeanette is their missing piece but convincing her to give them a chance has Been hard. When they finally get an opening they won't let her go even as an arsonist arrives in town threatening Jeanette. Warnings: m/m as well as m/f/m and teenage rape victim trigger.
OMG! What a fantastic plot! Full of secrets, suspense, surprises, and danger! Who knew the cute, quite, shy one had such fire! As the danger grows out of control, can her two men save her? Will the fire growing between them flare out of control or fizzle without a spark? Who wants to hurt her enough to try to kill her?Can they accept the truth when they realize the secret she has kept all this time? Will the truth set her free? Forgiveness! No way! How can she forgive him?
Great book! I'm not good with words but holy fucking hell that was seriously HOT! If I ever had the pleasure of having two men at once, they had best be into each other as well.
Note to the editor and/or proofreaders: Please do a better job. There are missing words that stop the flow of the story. It sucks being in the scene only to have to take a step back to see what just happened to ruin it. Yes, one single word missing is that bad for me and each time it happened my irritation got worse.
I've had this book for awhile, and another in the series, and for some reason I thought they were NA books so I never read them. I finally decided to try this one and was very pleasantly surprised it was not NA. i really enjoyed the book. The writing flowed nice and was paced well. I liked that the author was able to explain past events without flashbacks. She easily established the existing relationship the MCs all had by showing, not telling. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author and series.
I was pleasantly surprised by the way Jeanette confronted the villain from her past. Thought I would have seen a bit more of the "Dom" in Diego, since it was brought up, but I liked the heroes. That it took them years to make more of a move on her was odd. Also wish I would have had a bit more to the HEA conclusion. The epilogue is one of those that's supposed to get you into the next book in the series, featuring a different heroine who was a secondary character in this title.
What do you get when you throw together a girl who guards her heart better the fort not, two hot and steamy firemen who love each other but know a peice is missing and one talented as hell writer, well you get this amazing book.
From the first scene I fell in love with the character heck I love the sparks family already but those two fireman well let's just say I'll take them of her hands any day.
A beautiful well written book that I lived and adored bring on the next spark family member
although it seemed a bit rushed at times, it was still a good story line and a good read. I picked a 4-star because there's a few scenes that in my opinion went from absolute fear to over-the-top in a matter of seconds when in real life that could not possibly happen, I know it's all in the nature of the book but that little bit still disappointed me slightly. Overall for not being aware of this author I was pleasantly surprised.
This book is definitely a must read! I couldn't put the book down. I had to find out who was after Jeanette and if Luc and Diego would be there for her. These two really stepped up when she needed help. Jeanette really changed and it was great to see! This is the first book I have read in the series, but not the last.
