2 books in 1: book 1: mind is your business for most people, the mind seems to be an unruly cacophony, attempting to grasp and shape everything which falls in its purview. In mind is your business, sadhguru explains that only if we make it "our business" to transform this uncoordinated mess into a well - coordinated symphony, will we able to use the mind, rather than be used by it. Book 2: body the greatest gadget body, the greatest gadget, is an introduction to the most sophisticated and incredible device on the planet. In the course of this book, sadhguru explores the yogic physiology and the many subtle dimensions of the body. It is a first step on an intriguing and exciting journey that culminates in total mastery of the system, allowing us to stay rooted in the physical and yet taste the beyond. Above all, the book is a glimpse of a possibility to live and function in a way that most human beings would consider superhuman.

I have always admired Jaico Publishing house because of their commitment towards publishing books that teaches more about life and its importance irrespective of what other publishers are publishing. They are never into race to earn more by releasing stupid pulp fictions and college campus stories. This time I got the opportunity to read Sadhguru's 2 books released in one package- Mind is your Business and Body The Greatest Gadget. I liked the concept of releasing two books in one binding as both are less than 100 pages each. I started with Mind is your business and hence I would review it first.
Mind is your Business is basically about how we have cluttered our mind ourselves and made a mess of it but still complain that we are in stress and ache every day. Sadhguru very nicely makes us clear what we have actually done to make a mess of our mind. While reading the chapters, you will realize that we have ourselves sucked away the peace from our mind and added useless stuffs in it. Sadhguru is basically making a point that we have attached ourselves with so many identities today because of which we start considering ourselves with something and not with something with which we do not find ourselves attached. This leads to several opinions and therefore, we are always disturbed. In the end, Sadhguru shares with us few tips on how we can still our minds and bring it in our control rather than being in its control.
The second book, Body The Greatest Gadget, is better than the first, according to my view. I did find few things in MIYB above the thinking process of a layman because of which I found hard to understand few concepts. But in this particular book, Sadhguru have so practically explained everything that I could imagine myself doing all the suggested tips and finding myself in a better spot. This book tells you about how you can be healthy always plus how fighting illness is easy. The importance of yoga is wonderfully described in both the books. Sadhguru have also tried telling how to eat and what to eat to stay away from illness. He has supported his take without being religious but being scientific and practical.
Though I wished Sadhguru to have written this book with more examples so that a layman like me could have understood the concepts right from the core. Just like Eknath writes who's also been published by Jaico continuously. Rest, I liked the points made by Sadhguru and it's a book that I would always like to pick up whenever I would start following yoga and meditation as routine. I give this book 3.75* out of 5.
If you try to stop what you don’t want, only that will happen. This has always been the nature of your mind and the human mind as such. The whole system of yoga is about experientially exploring the nature of your body and your mind. When you get up in the morning and do your asanas, it is not because it is a stretching exercise, as a whole lot of idiots across the planet describe it. Yes, you have to stretch to do it, but fundamentally, it is an exploration of your body and your mind. Because the biggest problem in your life is, you are trying to live here without having a grasp of the two basic vehicles without which you cannot go through this life – the physical body and the mind.
As an experiment, try to resist the things that you want. You will see they will manifest strongly within you. If you want something to happen, try to not make it happen. It will definitely happen. That is because you are in a state where when you want to put your mind in first gear, it goes into reverse gear. This is not the best way to do things, but you could try this to understand that this is how it is right now – if you resist something, only that will happen.
The most important aspect of your existence is your physical body. When we look at the body as an instrument, different instruments are created and calibrated for different types of activities. When it comes to physical prowess, the human body is not comparable to any other animal. If you take an insect, a grasshopper for example – whatever the length of his body, he can jump almost 50 to 100 times that length. If you are five or six feet tall, you would have to jump 500 or 600 feet. If you hold Olympics by the standards of an earthworm, a termite, a grasshopper, a tiger, a deer or an elephant or any other creature on this planet, you are nowhere near that.
Its all about perception... he has a perception.. i don't say its wrong or right but its a perception worth giving a read... innovative strategy to sell the book by dividing the book into 2 parts and naming the same book twice...
Sadhguru's understanding of mind is indeed remarkable. He understands the need for transcending the mind and how breath is such a vital tool to go beyond the mind. Misery lies within the mind. But if one tries to go beyond mind, he or she will achieve peace.
Written in a lucid style with a humorous touch, this book is a must read for all the yogis and seekers. It is refreshing and the best part is the question and answer format which reminds me of Osho's books. The wit of sadhguru makes one feel much lighter and relieved.
One should do recurring reading of this book to understand that going beyond thought brings immense possibilities to life.
who can teach you about Body and Mind better than Indian yogis. Sadhguru reveals most of the secrets about mind and body and also give light to most hot shot topic of chakras. It also have step by step procedure of Isha kriya a very effective kriya for modern generation to overcome stress and work efficiently. A must read for all. once you start it wont leave till the end comes. 5 stars for this mystic writing.
This is a two book compilation. One focusing on the mind and one on the body. Apart from a few jokes here and there , I didn't find any value in them. Some of the claimed techniques also seem unscientific. The word mystic seems to be misused these days and this is one book to be given a miss.
As lucid as always, Sadhguru has explained Mind + Body concepts in a believable way. It seems real to read and follow and observe the changes in Body-Mind system.
How yoga is parallelled to asanas but is way more than that. How Pranayam can be used to improve quality of life. How disturbed energies result into diseases. How food alters our health at elemental level. How one's aura = his physical + mental + karmic structure.
How mental balance, meditation, joy but not momentary happiness can help us use our mind instead of being slaved to it.
In essence, it is about keeping a balance between our Body, Mind and Energies to keep our system joyful.
I don't know why this book is so well rated.(May be the fandom of Sadhguru is really something). This book has zero practical implementation. This book has nothing about caring or enhancing your body or mind. It has only some 'good to hear' philosophy. And that's too very much confusing. There are mentioned many things that you should do but how to do it is not explained. So if you have already bought this just read the bold lines, that would be enough.
Book is quite simple, if you have watched / listens to his audios then these books are repetitive. These are not exactly a book but most like documentation of his talks. Even the format of questions and answers remains the same in the book.
I couldn't connect with alot of topics but few were good and useful
What a great end-of-year read it turned out to be. I loved the comparison of mind to a circus - seemingly chaotic but is actually well coordinated run of Neurons. Sadhguru shares wisdom with clarity on what mind is and how we need to liberate it rather than control it.
For a yoga fan, reading this book will be very enjoyable. At first I thought this book was about gadgets and because I was interested in them I started the book. Here why: Gajet
Learnt some things which everyone should know. Found clarity in some aspects of life as well. People should follow up with the exercises given in the book to get the maximum output.
Extraordinary read. Sadhguru Explained in detail about the meaning of five elements of nature and how Eastern culture identified it for a purpose much earlier compared to Western culture which were judged as true after many researches. Also explained about how our body can gain things with the help of five elements of nature.
A book which I would like to gift to all who I know. It changes how the reader perceives life, body and mind. It is an easy read with simple language. Great spiritual ideas, tough to understand normally, are made easy to digest using very good examples and analogies. Written by one who knows.
