About the author

Paal Brekke

24 books
Paal Brekke was a Norwegian poet, author, and translator.

Brekke fled to Sweden in 1940 after the occupation of Norway during World War II, where he was introduced to Swedish and Finnish-Swedish poetry, and soon began to write his own material.
He made his debut in 1942 with the poetry collection "Av din jord er vi til".

He came back to Norway in 1945, and released the poetry collection "Jeg gikk så lange veier" the same year. He was soon noted as an author and literary critic with a particularly good orientation of modern European poetry. Brekke also sought a renewal of Norwegian poetry, and contributed to spread the Norwegians' knowledge of foreign literature by translating modernists such as T.S. Eliot, and American, Japanese, and Indian poetry.
