I woke up in a strange bed still in my bloodied clothes, with no memory of how I got here.
The door opened and a man walked in carrying coffee like this was completely normal, and that's when I saw the monitors covering the entire wall behind him.
Every single screen showed a different angle of my apartment, my office, the gym I go to, even the inside of my car.
My stomach dropped because I'd been looking over my shoulder for weeks thinking I was paranoid, but someone really had been following me.
He set the coffee down on the nightstand, and sat on the edge of the bed close enough that I could feel the heat coming off his body.
"Three men broke into your apartment last night with zip ties and duct tape. So I took you before they could."
It's early in the story but the gist is Eloise is a reporter and had been reporting negative things about a hockey player named Luke.
Some reason he sets up security at her apartment because she's in danger for writing about him, but he's also in danger from her writing about him.
Then he's watching her on his cameras that she knows nothing about and sees that people are about to break in and rushes down 24 floors, into his car, and over to her apartment and is there shortly after the attack begins? Like how?
During the attack there a line of her inner monolog that also doesn't make sense. "Something skittered across the floor, his hand or my keys I couldn't tell." Okay was the attackers hand made of metal?
