Port Lucia #1

Addicted to You

Rate this book
In a sweet, sexy novel for fans of Abbi Glines, Monica Murphy, and Christina Lauren, the author of Just a Little Kiss tells the story of two friends who each want more—and the love triangle that’s holding them back.   In the sleepy fishing town of Port Lucia, everyone knows everyone, but Isla Diaz really knows Colby Callahan, with his blue-gray eyes and the tousled brown hair always tucked sexily into his cap. After all, Isla has been crazy about Colby ever since she can remember—even if he treats her like a kid sister. Now, without her best friend, Felicity, around, Isla spots a golden opportunity to take things to the next level . . . or at least wrangle a kiss out of Colby.   By random chance, a tropical storm is headed toward the coast, leaving them stranded together overnight—and there’s nothing to do but drink. As the evening wears on, Isla gets the feeling that her not-so-secret crush may finally release her from the friend zone. With her dreams finally coming true, Isla isn’t about to pump the brakes, but is this just a one-time thing? What if the next morning, she needs more than Colby’s prepared to give?   Little does she know, Colby would like nothing more than a real relationship with Isla. She’s always been the one. But there’s a very good reason he’s been keeping his distance. Someone else loves her too, someone who also means the world to his brother.  Praise for Addicted to You“A girl-next-door meets friends-to-lovers meets love-triangle in this new adult romance. Renita Pizzitola brings the angst in this roller-coaster ride of tension, anticipation, and heat. . . . Fans of Marquita Valentine, Melissa Foster, and Joss Wood will enjoy Addicted to You.”—Harlequin Junkie “A beautiful summer romance book as a whole. "But truth be told, I'd never get enough of Colby, because I was completely and hopelessly addicted to him."

4 Stars!

Wow, this book just wormed its way under my skin. It's a sweet friends-to-lovers story that kind of reminds me of Jenny Han's The Summer I Turned Pretty and Abbi Glines' Rosemary Beach series.

"Just friends. As in no benefits."

Addicted to You follows the main characters Colby Callahan and Isla Diaz. Growing up in a fishing town of Port Lucia, they are best of friends since childhood. Now that they're grown-ups, Isla realizes that she's falling in love with Colby. Unfortunately, Colby doesn't seem to feel the same way about her and he only sees her as a friend and nothing more. But one drunken night, these two dare each other to hook up which ends up in bed and a whole new level of awkwardness.

What can I say? I have a penchant for friends-to-lovers tropes so this explains my fascination for this book. The concept and the story itself may be cliché in some places but it honestly didn't fail to turn my heart into a big puddle of mush.

Colby and Isla's relationship was so interesting. I loved how they started off as friends. The romantic development was not forced or anything, and the chemistry was very palpable. All throughout the book I found myself rooting for them and begging them to get it together and profess their feelings because they’re clearly tormenting themselves.

Both characters were also likeable. Colby... Colby... Colby... Book boyfriend alert, ladies. And Isla-- well, she is one perfect and not annoying character. I loved the way she cares for her grandmom and for the people around her.

Another thing that I loved about this book was Colby's brother Landon. He is all kinds of swoon-worthy and adorable. (I wish the next book is going to be about him.:) )

Maybe I just needed a little bit of angst and a touch of unpredictability to make this book really spectacular but otherwise, I have no issues with the author's writing. I haven't read anything written by Renita Pizzitola prior to this book but after reading Addicted to You, I was awed. The author writes beautifully and her style suits my preference.

This was a beautiful summer romance book as a whole. The setting was perfect and the story was packed with all the sweet goodness that a contemporary reader craves. If you are a fan of Abbi Glines and Jenny Han, consider this book as your next read. :)

"And I totally won the girl."

I shook my head. "You didn't win me, Colby. You've always had me. There was no way to lose."

3.5 Stars. While the writing was excellent in this book, I found myself a bit frustrated at the push and pull between Colby and Isla. Although Colby's reasons were honorable, and revealed some depth, the story could've focused more on their growth as couple had he and Isla communicated instead of the typical dramatic drawn out plot. It is a credit to the writer that I was still engaged and invested, even as the characters challenged my patience. I liked how it all came together and what Colby's actions reveal about him. Isla had some introspection to experience herself and definitely stumbled along the way, making her relatable. All in all an entertaining read. Safety: Isla kisses OM after Colby plants a seed of doubt in her mind. She realizes that's not what she wants and doesn't do it again. No OW for Colby. No rape or abuse.

Thank you LoveSwept for the ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

What a lovely guilty pleasure read! I would like to thank sis Pearl for recommending this book to me [click her name to read her amazing review!]. I really like Addicted to You because of the small town and friends-to-lovers romance with a little drama, usually these kinds of books are my go-to reads. Plus, the author's writing style is good and the story has a great romance, tension and angst.

Isla Diaz lives on a small town called Port Lucia with her grandmother and she's been best friends with the Callahan boys since they were young. Years of friendship with them, she has a crush with Colby Callahan and falls for him deeply but for some reason, the feeling isn't mutual. Talk about FRIENDZONE and it crushes Isla's heart. The sexual tension between them heightened after they had a one night stand and that made them both uneasy in every conversations.

There are eye-rolling moments where these two argued back and forth and it tested my patience. Mostly Colby for being hot and cold to Isla. He was distant and constantly pushed her to his brother irritated me, Isla didn't deserved to feel rejected. Somehow, his reason that's revealed in the end isn't shallow and makes sense. Isla is a relatable and likable character. She isn't whiny and keeps the conversation casual just to ease down the awkwardness. All the important persons in her life, she loves them dearly even if the one that captured her heart hurts her. She always look on the goodness and remained optimistic.

Overall, this is a great read and I recommend it if you enjoy light romance novels or Abbi Glines' novels. I'm looking forward to read the upcoming books in this series.

After seeing the comparison to Christina Lauren and the BFF to more plot line, I was insanely excited for this.

I liked Isla. She's happy and positive, friendly and loyal. For the most part, I enjoyed being in her head. I also really liked Taylor and definitely would have liked to see more of her. As for Colby and Landon? I'm not sure what to say about them. They both have such potential, but it didn't seem like we saw any of it.

My main complaint was all of the push and pull. Everything is so dramatic. One minute Colby is saying he's crazy about Isla and kissing her crazy. And then in the next paragraph, he's pushing her at Landon. It got old really fast.

I kept reading because I was curious, but also I was really hoping to see a spark of something that would captivate me. As much as I enjoyed the idea of this book, ultimately, it wasn't for me.

Isla Diaz has been friends with Colby Callahan forever but she's also had a bit of a crush on Colby that has never been pursued. One night the pair find themselves alone as a tropical storm heads into Port Lucia and as they play a few games to pass the time the next thing they know they find themselves in bed together.

After their night together Isla isn't sure what Colby may think of what happened between them and if this may ruin the friendship they always have shared. Things get a bit weird as neither seems to know how to act around one another. For Isla she's afraid of losing Colby, for Colby he knows that his brother has liked Isla too and is torn between his own feelings and those for his brother.

Addicted to You was a well written new adult contemporary romance but what held me back from really falling in love with this one was the back and forth or hot and cold that Colby kept showing due to his brother. I think that after you've slept with a girl is a little too late to push her towards your brother and I'm sure had he known right away he probably wouldn't of been happy with it either.

I did enjoy the writing in this one along with the characters being long time friends. And I even wouldn't mind the story being around the somewhat awkwardness of two friends not knowing how to handle being more or holding onto their friendship. I would definitely grab another read from this author that just maybe wouldn't have the sibling connection going on.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

The Good, The Bad, and Everything In Between

The Good
-Love seeing a Latina heroine. Her little moments with her grandmother, the Spanish sprinkled into their conversations is comfortable and familiar to me and was easily my favorite part of the book.

-Likeable characters. Isla and Colby do have some chemistry that comes out from time to time, especially when there’s references to their long history and their familiarity to each other. In general, with a couple of glaring exceptions (more on that later), all the characters are pleasant and generally young, if not particularly fleshed out.

The Bad
-Uneven pacing. There’s a bit of a twist towards the end of the story and without giving details, it felt forced and tacked on just to give a bit of a surprise. There is barely any buildup to it and as a result, the potential emotional fallout just didn’t resonate with me. I just thought the people involved were all one dimensional shytes.

-Underdeveloped triangle. Now I’m not a fan of triangles, but I can look past that if it’s written well and it’s either a) so compelling that even I’m torn (fyi this almost never happens); or b) it’s very mild and there is no doubt who the couple is. This is definitely in the latter category. Unfortunately, I struggled to even know which other brother was interested in Isla. Had it not been mentioned in the blurb that there was a triangle AND that I vaguely recalled a mention of these characters in the earlier book by Ms. Pizzitola, I would have thought there really wasn’t a triangle. By the time any movement happens in the triangle, it ceased to work.

The Meh
-Too isolated. Too much time spent in Isla’s head isolated her and she wasn’t a good narrator for the characters around her. Her strongest moments were with her grandmother, not Colby, and that’s a problem when telling a romance.

-Needs context. Also, there’s a definite disadvantage if you haven’t read the earlier Crush series. I think the book would have benefited tremendously if some time had been spent building up Port Lucia for a new reader, as well as refreshing the memory of a past reader who may not have read the Crush series prior to picking this up. It jumps right into Isla and Colby’s simmering attraction, without some real context to it. Had this book taken more time spent setting up the dynamics of the Port Lucia relationships, romantic and otherwise, it could have really cemented the series opener and given it a solid foundation.

description
Too many flaws make this just an ok read. It’s a shame because I’ve certainly enjoyed Ms. Pizzitola’s earlier series. I wouldn’t rule out another shot at this, but I’m not sure I’d rush to read the next one either.

2.75 STARS

I discovered Renita Pizzitola two years ago when I came across Just a Little Crush. It was an absolute gem of a new adult romance and I went on to request and review Just a Little Flirt and Just a Little Kiss last year. I gave each book at least 4 stars and when I heard Pizzitola was writing a spin-off series I was so excited. I requested Addicted to You as soon as it became available and jumped right in. And... *insert huge sigh*

Isla has been in love with her best friend Colby for years. And she feels like everyone knows it... except Colby. She's leaving for nursing school soon and is determined to finally take a chance. One boozy night leads straight to Colby's bed but then she hightails it home to avoid the awkward morning after. What comes next is a series of assumptions, misunderstandings and missed opportunities that were repeated again and again.

Isla was consistently confused about Colby's feelings and yet she was never clear and upfront with him about her own feelings. It was so obvious (except to Isla) that Colby was in love her but he refused to make it known because his brother expressed an interest in her. One simple conversation with either of them saying what they felt would have solved everything. Instead, every potential talk was interrupted or abandoned, every encounter was misconstrued, and it all became very repetitive.

Another thing that was a real letdown was the fact that all this introspection of Isla's (how does Colby feel, he must not feel the same, but I love him, why is he pushing me toward his brother, etc.) took up almost the entire book. At the 85% mark I was still waiting for there to be an actual couple. Honestly, it was hard to maintain interest when there was no real relationship to read about - just a lot of build-up and missed opportunities.

Before it sounds like I have nothing good to say, there really are things that I liked. Isla was a character who was pretty self-aware (even if she didn't always act on her feelings) and I liked that she seemed determined to make the best of a situation that wasn't going the way she wanted. Colby was a real sweetheart. He loved Isla but he also loved his brother and felt like he was stuck in the middle. Unfortunately he chose everyone's happiness but his own. It's hard to fault such a selfless character. I also enjoyed the secondary characters like Isla and Colby's group of friends and Isla's doting grandmother.

It seriously pains me that I didn't love this one. The previous three novels I've read from Pizzitola were equal parts sweet and sexy, with realistic characters that I related to and empathized with. There was great banter and plenty of humor and the plots were engaging without being overly angsty. The best kind of new adult. But Addicted to You just did not hold that same charm for me.

Note: This title was provided to me in exchange for an honest review. This does not change my opinion of the book or the content of this review.

"There were probably a lot of girls who would give anything to be pinned between the hot bartender and the sun-kissed boat captain. It was like the perfect love triangle."

I went into this one really hoping for a cutesy young romance. Instead, I got a whole lot of childish back and forth that quickly got very old. Isla and Colby couldn't stay on the same page long enough to really move the story along more than an inch. The feeling of one step forward, two steps back was inevitable and really dulled my reading experience. What's worse is that it felt like there was a super quick fix, yet the pair continued to over complicate things just for the sake of being difficult.

On a positive note, I really enjoyed the way Renita Pizzitola decided to play the description of Addicted to You out. Within the description, the reader has already discovered the reason Landon is holding back - his brother also has a crush on Isla. This allowed me, as the reader, to feel like I was in on a secret that our MC was clueless to! Had Pizzitola taken the route of not giving that tidbit of information, it would've felt like a poorly hidden surprise and cheapened the story.

I wish the same call had been made with the decision to majorly hype up the family issues. I spent the first three quarters of the book trying to figure out what the big mystery was behind Isla's family dynamic. As big of a role as it played in the story, I figured it had to intertwine with the main plot. I was extremely disappointed once the truth was revealed. Sure the revelation was big, however it had nothing to do with the main plot and it ultimately only took away from the story instead of adding.

If you're looking for a light, feel-good, low angst friends to lovers story... then this is the book for you.

Renita Pizzitola really captures the joy and heartache of being in love with your best friend and being too unsure to share it with them. I loved how we really got into Isla's mind and how she second guessed herself so often. She was sure of her feelings, but questioning the mixed signals being sent to her from all over. It felt real and not like some OTT emotions that some books try to pass as natural. Yes at times I just wanted to kick all of the characters into gear, but that's what keeps this exciting.

There is a smidgen of angst in this story, I could have lived without it. I understand why it was there though, it further added to the bond between the two MC's.

Some may consider this a love-triangle, but I absolutely do not look at it that way. Not when Isla is certain of her feelings and we hear her POV. I think the person who is in a triangle in this book is the male MC and it's not the conventional triangle, haha!

The sexy times are not super detailed sexually, but IMO work well for the new adult category!

All in all a great read! Well written and easy to follow. Kept me turning pages because I had to find out what would happen in the end.

I'd say more, but I'm trying to keep this spoiler free. I guess I can safely say I can't wait to see more from the Callahan boys! Especially a certain one who didn't get the girl this go round :)

This is a great NA read and the beginning of what should be a fun series to read. It's a friends to lovers story and it takes a while for these two to come to the realization that they both having more than friends feelings for each other. There is a great group of secondary characters which will make for some interesting stories in the future.

Isla Diaz has been crazy about Colby Callahan forever and she's ready to take things to the next level. Sadly he's put her firmly in the friend zone and she doesn't see any way out. Until one stormy night changes everything. After a night of incredible passion Isla is hopeful things will change between them but it appears Colby is determined to get things back to the way they were. Isla simply can't figure out why. Now Colby is pushing her towards his brother. Should she just give up on him or fight for what she is sure would be a great thing?

Definitely one for the must read list. I highly recommend it.

This book was okay and I did enjoy reading it. I like the characters just fine and could see the connection between Isla and Colby. They had good chemistry and I liked them together but the whole brother storyline is what really threw me off. It didn't seem as though Landon was utterly taken with Isla but rather just thought she was a great girl with girlfriend potential, so when Colby kept trying to step aside for him it felt like unnecessary conflict. There just seemed to be a lot of push and pull for no reason other than Colby being too nice of a guy.

Big thanks to Flirt Publishing and NetGalley for an ARC copy for review

After introducing the town of Port Lucia in Just A Little Kiss, I wanted to know more about Felicity's other friends in the little sea side town. Renita knows the reader's mind because she definitely delivers in this charming little story. Just like with the author's previous novels, there is romance, friendships, some drama, but ultimately finding exactly where you're meant to be and who you're meant for. This new series is great for any fan on new adult/contemporary.

The reader gets two perspectives from both Isla and Colby, which is something that I always enjoy. It makes me feel like I am getting to know each character on a personal level. Isla and Colby are two  simple natured and good hearted teens. I did like both characters, but I have to admit that Colby's stubbornness at times, especially when he kept pushing Isla in the opposite direction kind of annoyed me. I was thinking, why Colby? Why?! You know how she feels about you.

Colby's brother is also in the picture, and this is where some drama comes in to play. I wasn't all that crazy about it to be honest. But everything gets worked out in the end and Isla and Colby find their happiness together in Port Lucia. Now until the next book in the Port Lucia series.

This is a sweet friend to lover’s story. This story takes place in a fishing town called Port Lucia. Colby and Isla have been friends for years. But what Colby doesn’t know is that Isla has had a crush on him since they were young. But he just sees her as a “kid sister” or at least that is what he tells himself. But after a one night, things start to get a little more serious. You can feel the sexual tension between them. While overall it was well written, light enjoyable read, it was a little frustrating with the push and pull between Colby and Isla. However the characters were likeable.

The minute I read the synopsis for Addicted to You, I knew I had to read it. The friends to lovers trope is one of my very favorites and Addicted to You did not disappoint. The story revolves around Isla, Colby, and Colby's older brother, Landon, who have all grown up together in the small town of Port Lucia. Yes, at it's core, it's a love story, but the relationships are not just between our main characters, but also between them and their families.

I loved Colby and Landon's bromance. They are not just brothers, but also friends. They support and look out for each other, and truly want the other to be happy (even at the expense of their own happiness). Their personalities could not be more different, easy going Landon and brooding Colby, but their devotion to each other (and Isla) made them all the more loveable.

Another relationship I loved in the book was between Isla and her grandmother. She's the grandmother we all wish we had - funny, understanding, supportive, loving, and an amazing cook. Delicious empanadas?!? Yes, please! :) Isla's relationship with her grandmother contrasts greatly with her relationship between her parents and brother, and I was grateful that her grandmother brought some lightheartedness to the book.

So why not 5 stars? Well, I found that although Isla and Colby were very likeable characters and I was rooting for them from the start, their drama and misunderstandings were a little too much. I was frustrated by both of their assumptions about the other and wanted to scream at them on more than one occasion to just stop and talk. I also didn't quite buy that all the main characters could be that blind to the obvious truths in front of them. Colby definitely annoyed me more with his hot and cold behavior, but Isla also made things more complicated by trying to play things cool when what she should have done was just be honest. I knew that there would be angst and drama going into this book though based on the synopsis, so I wasn't as bothered by it as some other readers may be.

I really enjoyed reading Addicted to You. It's a sweet and swoony story, that's in the same vein as Jenny Han's The Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy. The epilogue was perfect and I'm hoping to see more of these characters in subsequent books. I definitely recommend Addicted to You if you're looking for a fun and romantic read!

Isla Diaz and Colby Callahan are best friends -- best friends each secretly harboring feelings for one another. When a drunken, stormy night leads them into bed together, neither is sure what it means for the two of them. Isla wants more, but convinced that Colby doesn't, she flees. Colby wants more but there's something (or someone) holding him back. Will they follow their hearts towards the love they both feel or will they be kept apart by circumstance?

4.5 stars!

I LOVED THIS BOOK! Couldn't put it down. Seriously. Only took breaks for sustenance...

description

I loved this book for a few reasons:
1. Colby was HOT - I wanted to pull his cap off, run my fingers through his hair, and stare into those blue eyes of his the whole time I was reading.
2. Isla was relatable - She had a good head on her shoulders, and although she was head over heels for this guy, she kept working, and hanging out with Taylor, she didn't push EVERYTHING aside just because she liked a guy.
3. things got seriously STEAMY - no spoilers, but seriously, READ IT.
4. There was wonderful description! - In new adult books most of the content is dialogue, which isn't always a bad thing; dialogue moves the story along quickly. In this book though, Pizzitola paints a picture. You really imagine yourself standing in the Diaz kitchen smelling the Grandma's home cooked meals.

The reason I didn't give this book all 5 stars was because I felt it jumped into the story instead of starting at the beginning. We learn that Isla has feelings for Colby right off the bat, before their friendship is totally established.

Otherwise, I was obsessed with this book. Definitely snatch this one up as SOON as it comes out!

This book was given to me for an honest review

2.5 stars

I read the blurb and thought this would be a cute story, I was frustrated by the end of this book. I enjoy best friends finding their way to each other, fumbling but in all seeing what they had right in front of them. This book was nothing but frustrating. Colby drove me completely nuts. He was so hot and cold. He won't tell Isla how he feels because someone else likes her. He does something at a party with Isla and then just I don't know flakes. He drove me totally nuts. You just never got a read on him until the end, but by then I just didn't care. Isla was just oblivious of everything in front of her. The signs are there, but she is too stubborn to see them. They just play run around with each other, not thinking about the consequences of the actions they are causing. Landon is just as important to Isla and his feelings are there too, but once again everyone has to hide everything from everyone. There is a secret in the story and I just didn't feel needed to be there to be part of the story.

It was all over the place and though I love a great story I just couldn't find the connections in this story. There was just too much off the wall stuff going on and if they were best friends like they were suppose to be the feelings should have shown and been connected more. I just couldn't find myself liking this book.

I hope the author finds an audience that likes this book. I think if I got to read something different first from this author then I would recommend the author. This book just did not hit the mark with me.

3.5 starts

I received a copy from NetGalley for an honest review.

I do love a good love story especially one that starts out as best friends. Longtime best friends who having feeling for each other but neither of them have told the other. The other complication is Colby's brother Landon who also has a crush on Isla. Colby and Isla don't realize that they both have feelings for each other.

The story is told from Isla point of view. The first half was just reading about Isla's thoughts and feelings for Colby. I wish there was more scenes with her and Colby so you could get a better sense of how he felt. I also would of loved some of the chapters in Colby's point of view. Colby is adorable, cute and kind who definitely cared about Isla. Landon was cute too but I definitely was rooting for Colby. The second half there were more scenes with Colby more which was more fun to read. I felt that there could of been more depth of the book. There were just one too many chapters of just reading about Isla thoughts.

I would definitely read another book in this series to see where they are in the future and too see who ends up with the cute Landon.

I volunteered to read this book provided by NetGalley to review.

I like best friend stories. I like that the friend zone can be crossed. But this book had just too much introspective talk for me. Isla sometimes drove me crazy thinking Colby should know what she was thinking or how she felt about him, at the same time wishing he would just tell her how he felt about her. That type of character trait always irritates me, but it's one I know us females have.

The story line was fun and cute, but took too long for them to finally connect in my opinion. I would have loved to read more of their actual relationship.

There really was no storyline to this book. Waste of words.

Two brothers.
Landon. Older. Extrovert. Has a crush on her.
Colby. Boring. Loves her. Festering because of his brother.

Guess who encourages her... Landon. He had a crush. He easily got over it. What was the big deal?

It's a cute story with nice characters. I loved that the guys in this were pretty good guys, who didn't feel the need to hook up with random girls all the time. I also loved that there wasn't the stereotypical easy girl; all the girls in this book were smart and mature. Isla and Colby have been best friends for years, she's been in love with him forever but hasn't taken the leap to tell him. They finally get together when hanging out during a storm, but Isla overthinks everything and starts thinking she knows how things will be without even talking to Colby. That's Isla's and Colby's problem, they don't talk about how they are actually feeling. This whole book is about them both thinking they know what the other is thinking, which of course isn't correct. They do have a really sweet connection and some passion between them; they just need to grow up a bit more. They are fairly young yet; early 20's, so it's to be expected that they need to mature more. I was hoping Colby would give a little more fight in the story. Still liked him though, and his brother was a great character too. There's not a lot of excitement in the story, but I was entertained the whole time, so I went with a 4 rating. Plus, I'm interested in continuing the series because I liked all the side characters.

Isla is a strong, independent and kind, and in unrequited love with her childhood friend Colby. Clock is ticking down for her, when she's to attend a nursing college away from her home town.
She got a chance to make him understand her feelings, but Colby is at the extreme mood conflicts giving her a whiplash.

Could Isla have her happy everafter with Colby??
Landon is a loveable character in this book.

This was a nice new adult read and was an easy friends to lovers story. The characters are sweet and likeable, however, If I'm honest, the story stalled a little in the middle and felt repetitive. All the way through, I felt that it needed something to happen to lift the story.

I was provided with a copy of this book from the Publisher via NetGalley under no inducement or obligation.

I didn't like the back and forth. I wanted to love the characters more but over all I did enjoy the story.

It was a fast read. The story or characters had no real background or depth and it was very predictable. A short and sweet distraction on a long night.....finished it in one read.
