The Smallest Mistake

Three went in; one came out. For five years, no trace has been found of two high-school friends who went hiking in the woods near Nashville. The third teen, Amber Ryder, was discovered at the bottom of a ravine with a broken arm, head trauma--and zero memory of the horror that put her there.

Will Put You

What started as a cold case has become a fresh hell for forensic technician Georgia Morgan. Another woman's body is found in the woods, and it leads to the missing teens' remains. But while Georgia works with Amber to try and reawaken her memories, her gut tells her the worst is yet to come.

At A Killer's Mercy

Homicide Detective Jake Bishop can't be sure whether Amber is an expert manipulator or the killer's next target. Either way, he's determined to protect Georgia. Because the deeper she digs into the past, the deadlier the secrets that emerge, and a nightmare years in the making is about to come to a bloody, terrifying end…

I was so looking forward to reading this book, but the reality just didn't live up to my expectations. This book is classed as 'romantic suspense'. I found it neither romantic nor suspenseful.

By the end I felt as though I was reading something that was written to a formula. I found it hard to connect with any of the characters. I felt that the sex scenes were unnecessary and not particularly well done. More that they were included because it would fill a 'quota'.

Forensic technician Georgia Morgan is tasked with re-examining the evidence of a cold case from five years earlier where three teenagers entered the woods on a science project and only one returned. Their bodies have never been found, and the survivor has never been able to remember anything about the time, having suffered horrific injuries of her own and resulting amnesia.

Then when a dog walker discovers a body, and another two bodies are uncovered at the same site, thing begin to take a more sinister turn.

To be fair, this is #4 in the Morgans of Nashville series, and I have read none of the previous books in the series. If I had, perhaps I would have felt more connected to the characters. But I doubt if it would have made me feel any more of the "romance" or "suspense" that I found was lacking.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for the gift of a copy of this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

Five years ago three teenagers went into the woods to work on a school project. When the three didn't return home a massive search took place but only one of the teens was found, Amber Ryder. She has suffered a serious concussion and other injuries but could not remember the events of what had happened when questioned after she was found.

Opening up the case again forensic technician Georgia Morgan is determined to find out what happened in the woods that day and where the missing two teens went. When another body is found Georgia makes gruesome discovery at the site, the missing remains of the case she had just opened.
Now with a killer on the loose that seems to have returned after five years Georgia teams up with Homicide Detective Jake Bishop to untangle the clues and put the killer behind bars once and for all.

Vulnerable is the fourth book in the Morgans of Nashville series by Mary Burton. I have not read the first three books myself but I do believe this one read find as a standalone novel and didn't feel that I had missed out by not having read the prior stories.

This book is full of twists and turns sure to keep the reader on the edge of their seat and with an ending that was certainly mind blowing. The characters were engaging once I got to know them, there was a slightly slow start to it for me but I thought maybe that would be from not reading the others but it didn't take too terribly long to get to know everyone and become completely hooked.

I would not however really consider this a romantic suspense read. The romance is certainly put on the back burner with very little flirty interactions and much more focus on the case and police work. A part of me was wishing for a bit more in that department but I was too involved in who the killer was to worry too much about it being missing.

Overall, a great thriller read that I'd certainly recommend.

Forensic Technician Georgia Morgan is called to the crime scene of a young woman who was found in a cave. During her preliminary examination still in the cave, she discovers two more bodies in another chamber. The remains belong to two teenagers who have been missing for 5 years.

The only survivor from that time was found at the bottom of the hill with a broken leg, a concussion, and no memory of anything that happened.

When Georgia calls Amber to let her know that her friends have been found, she shows up hoping that this will close the door to that part of her life.

Detective Jake Bishop has his doubts about Amber, but nothing concrete. She's either a master manipulator, a murderer, or as innocent as a newborn lamb.

The twists and turns just keep popping up. Just when I thought I had it figured out, I was dragged into another direction altogether. As with all of Mary Burton's books, it is very well written.

Her characters are always multi-layered, enticing the reader to learn more about them. Georgia, as her family will attest to, is a firecracker. She's very good at what she does, and will go to any lengths to find the truth about what happened to these teens. Her partner, Bishop, is not so trusting of people ... but he does trust his gut feelings.

And as they get closer to the truth, more bodies fall and Georgia becomes a target, leading to an explosive ending.

This is a Romantic Suspense with an intriguing blend of suspense and spicy romance.

Many thanks to the author / Kensington Books / NetGalley who provided a digital copy in exchange for a honest, unbiased review.

I received this ARC from Kensington Books Publishers via Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

Romantic suspense can be a very broad category, however, if the plot is the primary focus to the romantic couple I classify it as romantic suspense. If the plot is more of a backdrop to the romantic couple I call it chic-lit suspense. Mary Burton writes straight up romantic suspense with a heavy emphasis on the mystery or suspense part of her plot. And in book 4 of the Morgans of Nashville series, Ms. Burton has again delivered a solid murder mystery and a good cast of characters.

I really like that Ms. Burton does not write cookie cutter plots and characters. And Georgia our heroine of Vulnerable is definitely not cookie cutter. She's a forensic technician who sings country on the side. Georgia is looking into a cold case where only one teenager of three survived a hiking trip into the woods. The survivor had a concussion, broken arm and no memory of what took place and the case remained unsolved for 5 years. Right at the beginning of opening the cold case, a missing teenager is discovered which leads to the discovery of the missing teenagers.

Ms. Burton leads us through a really good discovery of facts as Georgia and Jake, a detective on the cases, try to determine who the murder(s) is. Jake is a really good detective who has been intrigued by Georgia ever since hearing her sing. There is a song and dance of a romance as these two work to find the answers to the cases as well as a relationship. For me the police procedural aspect of the plot was really strong, but the romance between Georgia and Jake wasn't as strong. I'm not sure why, but the two never felt quite like a couple. It was kind of like a friend who has a boyfriend that you just don't picture her with. I liked Jake and thought his character was well developed, but didn't appreciate that he let his player reputation continue long past his actions of being a player.

Once again, Ms Burton delivered a book that had great twists and turns, characters that were really well drawn and some moments where history repeated itself all woven together in a really great plot. It was another book that I had a hard time putting down.

Ms. Burton is definitely an author that I track and I can't wait for her next book.

Rating: 3 Stars
4 Stars for the Murder/Mystery plot
2 Stars for the romance side story

The mystery and suspense kept me glued till the very end. I enjoyed the who-dun-it guessing game of who the real killer was. The author did a great job slowly revealing the true motive behind the killings and introducing a chilling killer. This will be short review because I don't want to spoil it for anyone.

There is a slight romance plot here between Georgia ,the forensic technician and her partner, Homicide detective, Jake Bishop. The attraction was there but I felt like Georgia fougt too hard to push Jake away and Jake's sudden interest in her was a bit too sudden. It didn't help that most of the story takes place while the MCs are apart conducting their own part of the investigation. There is very little page time with them together which didn't help build on their love story. I didn't ejoy this one as much as the last book of Mary Burton's that I read but the mystery plot was entertaining and saved the story for me.

Would I recommend? A good read but not one I see myself re-reading.

Five years ago three friends Mike, Bethany and Amber organise a trip into the woods to gather information for an environmental project they have to complete. Something terrible happens in these woods and Amber is the only one found alive, there is no sign of Bethany and Mike yet the area was extensively searched. Now, another body has been found and Detective Jake Bishop and forensic technician Georgia Morgan are called in to try to solve the case. As the story moves we learn a lot more about these three friends, their personalities, characteristics and relationships. We also see the sinister side of people as they try to avenge wrongs they feel have been unfairly dealt. There are other characters in this story, some good and some absolutey arrogant and offensive which makes for great reading. I have read several of Mary Burton's books and always find them enjoyable, this one also definitely fell into this category. Lots of tension and suspence, an excellent book.

The 4th book in the 'Morgans of Nashville' series by Mary Burton. I had previously read two of the earlier books in this series and enjoyed them so was pleased to have the opportunity to read the latest one. Although part of a series it can be read as a stand alone.

The series revolves around the Morgan family all of whom work for the Nashville law enforcement. The lead character in this novel is Georgia who is a forensic investigator and is asked to reopen a cold case where three high school friends go trekking in the woods but only one returns. The third member Amber Ryder, was discovered at the bottom of a ravine with a broken arm, head trauma and no memory of how she got there. The five year old case is reopened and another murder occurs.

I found this novel to be a well written solid read and look forward to reading more of this series.

I would like to thank Net Galley and Kensington for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for a honest review.

ARC provided by Kensington Books via Netgalley.

I have not managed to connect with this story from the beginning. For me, the story had no sense at the end, the author has failed to close the plot, has had unforgivable errors and has not explained the reason for all that had happened.
I did not like the romance. It is another case of insta-lust. And it has not improved throughout the story... lust, sex and “I love you´s” that come out of thin air, very weak.
But the worst was the suspense. It has not been well executed. It has contradictions and the explanations are very vague or nonexistent. At the end of the book I feel that nothing fit in, and, after going back to read the first chapter again, I knew why.
Very inconsistent and very weak. The story is full of holes.

For full review - The Limit of Books Does Not Exist

Even though Vulnerable is the 4th novel in the Morgans of Nashville series, it can easily be read as a standalone. Each novel in the series, focuses on one of the Morgan siblings who all work in Nashville law enforcement. In this novel, it focuses on the youngest and only daughter, Georgia Morgan who is a forensic technician.

Even though, this novel is marked as a romantic suspense, there is a lot more suspense/mystery than romance. There are multiple bodies that are discovered at the same time, only they are from different time periods. The main plot, was finding out what happened to two teenagers, five years ago.

I did like the mystery and I really enjoyed Amber, one of the survivors from 5 years ago. Throughout the whole novel, I wasn’t sure if she was lying or telling the truth. Also there was some surprises through in that I didn’t see coming.

I liked this novel more than the first novel in the series, but I still found it to be an average mystery read.

I was happy to see Jake and Georgia finally front and center after being involved in the previous Morgan family books. Unfortunately, I was a tad let down by this book. Most of the story focuses on the police investigation, and there isn't much suspense or excitement. By the time the book gets around to the developments between Jake and Georgia I just felt it was rushed, gratuitous, and went from 0 to 60 in the space of a few pages. This seems to happen a lot in Mary Burton's books. If she could just find that balance of the mystery/suspense part of the story, interspersed with bits of the romance throughout the ENTIRE book, I would definitely slap another star on my rating. She always seems to have the right ingredients; she just needs to find better timing and balance on adding them to the recipe!

In this romantic suspense from 2016, Georgia Morgan is an occasional singer and a full-time forensic technician with the Nashville Police Dept. She's given a cold case to work. Five years ago, three teens working on a science project walked into the woods and did not come out. One girl, Amber, was found injured in a deep ravine with no memory of what happened.

Homicide detective Jake Bishop works with Georgia as a new body is found. The surviving member of the trio returns to town.

The forensics in this book are superb and the police officers are strong. Georgia's red hair probably contributes to being a firecracker. Her mother was murdered 32 years ago and she was adopted into the Morgan family. Her father was a cop and her 3 brothers are all in law enforcement. She's a workaholic.

I had four suspects on my list -- 2 male, 2 female. If you read carefully, there are some clues to the killer's identity. I was thrown off a couple of times but ultimately right. I liked the twists and turns.

Talented Mary Burton returns with #4 “Morgans of Nashville” following I’ll Never Let You Go, landing on my Top Books of 2015, and "Best Flawed Law Enforcement Family," with VULNERABLE, another gripping edge-of-your-seat suspense mystery crime thriller, featuring Forensic Specialist, Georgia Morgan, and sexy homicide detective, Jake Bishop.

Two cases collide, a five-year-old cold case. An anniversary of two high school friends who mysteriously disappeared in the forest, and never found. The third, Amber Ryan, was found in the wooded park, with no memory. She story has not changed.

Four Morgans. Three boys and, Georgia Morgan, the youngest Morgan with a past of her own—her birth mother Annie (we met in earlier books), died tragically and she was raised by the Morgans. Annie left a legacy to her only child—her golden voice. Georgia was only five days old when her late father, homicide detective Buddy Morgan carried her away from the tragic scene. Buddy and his wife, Adele took her in, with open arms to join their family and three other sons. all in law enforcement.

Big brother, Deke Morgan runs the Nashville Police Homicide Department; Rick Morgan (married to new wife, Jenna, former Baltimore police officer and trained forensic artist) works for the same unit, and third brother, Alex, works for the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI).

Dalton Marlow is a rich and powerful man—the father of one of the three teens who went into Percy Warner Park five years earlier. Students from an exclusive high school called St Vincent—the teens went hiking in the park- acres of trails and bike paths. The plan was to collect data for a science project, and return home by dark.

Amber was found at the bottom of a ravine; however, Bethany Reed and Mike Marlow were never found, until possibly now. Mr. Marlow had been pressing the Missing Persons Unit, and after a sizable donation to the police foundation, the case is reopened.

Amber is back in town from Dallas--spending time with Georgia. She wants to cooperate, she says. However, shortly after arriving back in town, another’s woman’s body (Elisa Spence) is found near the woods—ultimately, unearthing more bodies in the cave.

Are the cases related? A necklace. A cave. Human bones. The killer’s special hiding place that no one had found in the last five years. How many times had the killer returned to this spot to gaze? Wrong place, wrong time? A serial killer? Revenge?

Is beautiful and sexy, Amber hiding something? What really happened five years ago? Three teens – all different; a popular rich football player, a nerd, a smart girl from the wrong side of town. Mike’s dad blames Amber, since she is alive and his son is gone. Is she a good lair, innocent, or a master manipulator?

Homicide Detective Jake Bishop from Boston-- (Rick Morgan's partner) is on the case. Working with Georgia, the pressure and tension is high to solve the case, along with romantic suspense between the two.

Complex deadly secrets from the past. Georgia and Jake begin to dig into the pasts, from parents of the three teens, to where Amber has been the last five years. Collateral damage? The perfect crime? Why would three teens go into the woods and only one out. Three unlikely classmates working on a science project of ecosystems.

In addition to the pressure to solve the case, Georgia remains in full battle mode, wound tight, always cool, and all business—keeping Jake at arm’s distance. Jake loves hearing Georgia sing at Ruby’s and is extremely attracted. However, he plays it smart. Jake also has a past and Georgia is also attracted to him. She does not want to let her guard down—a game of cat and mouse.

Georgia thinks Jake is arrogant, brash, a charmer, and a temper when pushed. However, he was a hell of a detective who read people well. The two, an impressive combination. As the two get closer to learning the truth, they are determined to find this monster--Jake wants to keep Georgia safe.

From twists and turns with every page, Burton delivers top notch police procedures and impressive forensics, with a riveting crime mystery whodunit, and twisted psychological suspense. Hooking you from page one to the ending, a cast of flawed characters you continue to root for, with plenty of hatred, evil, and a web of deceit; with some smoldering romantic suspense, a strong match--to balance the good versus evil.

Burton is quickly becoming one of my leading favorite female crime authors! Fans of Karin Slaughter will enjoy this well-written dynamic series--an explosive plot, and an ending you do not see coming. Her best yet!

"Love Morgans of Nashville." Keep them coming.

Vulnerable is #4 in the Morgans of Nashville and can easily be read as a stand alone, although having the background on the brothers and their wives just adds to the story. This is a good, but not great book. There were several places that I felt the plot just didn't hang together. The relationship between the H/h moved from them sniping at each other to full on sex at lightning speed. A little buildup would have helped, even though the end was a foregone conclusion. The basic plot was good, but had holes.

Three friends go into the woods and only one returns and she can't remember what happened. Five years later this cold case is reopened and on the heels of that a fresh body is found along with the two original missing friends. The surviving friend, Amber, returns to Nashville to try and help, even though she still can't remember what happened.

Georgia is the youngest Morgan and only girl. She is also a top crime scene tech. She also is a gifted singer. Georgia contacts Amber and they form a friendship, of sorts, as Amber works with Georgia to try and solve these crimes. There is a lot of animosity toward Amber and some feel she is not telling the whole truth about what happened that day.

Jake is the partner of Georgia's brother, Rick. He is assigned to the cold case too and that brings him in close contact with Georgia, whom he is attracted to. Georgia is attracted too, but Jake's reputation as a ladies man is putting her off. He has a history that in part explains his actions. the more Jake learns about Amber, the more skeptical he becomes about her story.

Vulnerable is the fourth book in Mary Burton's Morgans of Nashville series. Each book can be read as a standalone and focuses on a different Morgan sibling. In Vulnerable, sex, greed, and murder take a front row seat as Georgia Morgan and homicide detective Jake Bishop work to solve a five year cold case.

Five years ago, three teenagers went into the woods for a science project and only one came out. Amber Ryder is the only survivor and has no memory of the events that took place in the woods and what happened to her two friends. Forensic technician Georgia Morgan has been assigned to look into cold cases with the help of Homicide Detective Jake Bishop. And when a discovery of a missing girl leads to finding the two missing teens from 5 years ago leads to more questions being asked. What REALLY happened in the woods 5 years ago? Is Amber really telling the truth about what happened or did the head trauma she suffered really cause memory loss? Was she really a victim, or something worse?

With a killer determined to bury the past, Jake and Georgia must work together to discover what really happened 5 years ago.

The reason why I am giving this book a less than 3 rating is because I found it to be VERY predictable and for a "romantic suspense", this book was really lacking in the "romance" department. I liked Georgia and Jake. Georgia is very smart and dedicated to her job and family and Jake is a good cop and man. I think there was so much potential with the romance between these two characters, but I found it lacking. If this would of been just a "thriller", I probably would of rated Vulnerable a little higher. But again, I pretty much figured out the "who" and "what" about a quarter of the way in.

A puzzling cold case is reopened when a woman's body is found in the woods along with the remains of two teenagers who disappeared five years ago, forcing forensic technician Georgia Morgan to work with homicide detective Jake Bishop.

For everything plot related, Mary Burton runs a tight ship and plays the details of the case with ease. But while 'Vulnerable' is an excellent example of a police procedural, I would be cautious in labelling this book as romantic suspense when it's more a crime novel with some (not entirely believable) romantic elements.

I wasn't entirely convinced that Jake and Georgia was a credible pairing; there is a goodly amount of UST and banter, but given Jake's unapologetic man-whore reputation and Georgia's caution when it comes to men like him, their sudden fall into bed together (and apparently straight into a committed relationship from there) towards the 75% mark of the book seems like an obligatory scene rather than an inspired one. Much less the declaration of love by the end of the book which I absolutely couldn't buy, especially when the leading couple in question spent as much time together as the other criminal suspect-couples did.

My personal dissatisfaction simply stems from what might be called mislabelling of this particular genre; the lack of development and depth for Jake and Georgia tanked my rating of the book only because I was on the lookout for a more solid gasp of a pairing that didn't quite materialise convincingly. This story would however, be right on point for those who prefer a 'purer form' of the crime novel - where pairings and relationships take a backseat to plot-development.

I received this book from Netgalley for my honest review.

This book can be considered book #4 in the Morgans of Nashville series, since the heroine is the adoptive sister of the Morgans, Georgia.

I really wanted to know what would happend to Gerogia since I read about her in the previous books. And here we have her story.

I must say that I love Ms. Burton's books and her writing style, but here I was slightly disappointed.

Don't get me wrong, the story is interesting and peppered with fascinating descriptions about forensic procedures and information, but there was something off with both the romance and crime/mistery part.

I find Ms. Burton's insight into the villain's mind and the growth of the relationship between H and h the best parts of the story, but here they were not enough...

We got just a few glimpses of the villain's thought process and the resolution was very quick and rather unsatisfactory. I wanted more! More of the whys. More of the logic, twisted as it must be...

About the relationship between Georgia and Jake... what to say? Tepid at best.
Just a few moments when he was lusting while she was singing and a few scattered toughts she has while looking at him also while singing, I didn't feel any growth of emotions. They just fall in bed and that's it: love is born! Not what I wanted at all!

Still the writing is impeccable and the story flows smoothly, so even if I didn't loved it as much as those before, I still enjoyed it, therefore: 3,5 starts rounded to 4!

Three teens went into the woods and only one came out. Amber Ryder was found with a broken arm, a concussion, and no memory about what happened. Nashville forensic technician Georgia Morgan has been assigned the five year old cold case because the father of one of the victims is rich and connected. He keeps pushing for more investigation even though the police haven’t managed to find anything in five long years. Georgia has read all the files and has contacted Amber who now resides in Texas, but before she can really get going on interviews another body is found in the woods - a body that leads Georgia and her team to the missing teens. What fresh hell is this?

There are twists and turns and revelations both surprising and icky in this suspenseful murder mystery. I’ve read one other book by Mary Burton and I like her writing style. She woos with words and coaxes you to keep looking for answers all while dropping breadcrumbs to follow. Sometimes you think you have it figured out only to doubt yourself with the next revelation. It’s frustrating, but in a good way. There is plenty of science involved without it overwhelming the story and there’s even more foot work involved by Detective Jake Bishop. Police work is a collaborative effort between beating the bushes and science and I’m glad this story shows that. I look forward to reading more stories by Mary Burton.

This was not a bad read by any means, but it was nothing special. I liked the idea of a cold case being reopened, but the investigation was pedestrian, a little dull, and really not much headway was made until the book was almost over. I especially disliked the very tired tell-and-not-show deus ex machina wrap up at the end of having the villain spend pages and pages explaining to our intrepid heroine all about how and why she did it because she was going to kill her anyway...and then, of course, the hero saves the h just in the nick of time.

This was supposed to be an RS read, but two random sex scenes and "I Love You's" at the end does not an RS make. I would have been happier with no romance at all and more attention on the investigation. Calling this RS was a huge stretch, imo...I might read a book by Burton again if another arc crosses my path; but I don't think I'll be searching out any more books by the author.

I do love a new Mary Burton book as you know exactly what you're going to get-an easy to read romantic suspense that's not overly complicated by too many characters or red herrings. She has actually overtaking Karen Rose for me due to these very reasons. I have read all 3 of the previous Morgan's of Nashville series so was very happy to have been sent the 4th one by Kensington Books, the publisher via netgalley as a little Valentine's gift!

We are now concentrating on the last child of the Morgan clan, the gorgeous red-headed adopted daughter Georgia, who works at the Nashville PD as a forensic technician. She has been brought in to look at the cold case of two missing teenagers who disappeared in the woods 5 years ago. A third teen Amber Ryder was found barely alive at the bottom of a ravine and has had amnesia ever since. Georgia teams up with homicide detective Jake Bishop when a recent murder in the same area leads to a possible connection with the past.

Although billed as a romantic suspense there wasn't much in the way of romance until nearer the end when it all seemed to come together in a little bit of a rush! Usually there is a lot more heavy flirting in the old love/hate traditional and we get a bit of a sexual tension build up but I felt it lacked slightly here. Don't get me wrong I did like the characters of Georgia and Jake but it just felt a bit more forced than usual. Also, the actual denouement seemed a bit rushed and frankly didn't actually answer all the motive questions I had re everything connected to the plot! A quick explanation right within the very last pages left me feeling a bit....well, cheated! I had really enjoyed the book up until then which is why I have given a 4* rating and not a 3*.

Overall, a good book from Mary Burton and she is still my "go to" for a good example of this genre. I think this series has reached a natural conclusion now so I am looking forward expectantly to where she goes from here.

As I said before, a big thank you to Kensington Books for my ARC received via netgalley in return for an honest review.

When a cold case gets reopened it is only the beginning for a crazy ride. There are a lot of twists and turns in this crime thriller that will keep you guessing just who it was that was on a killing spree. Five years ago three high school kids walked into a woods but only one was found unconscious with broken bones and amnesia. What happened to the other two and who knows the whole story?

Georgia comes from a family of cops and is following in her family’s footsteps when she is the lead in this cold case. Once this case is reopened it brings the lone survivor back to Nashville in hopes of finding out what really happened in those woods. Georgia has help from Jake and her brother in trying to sort all of this out. During this it’s Jake who has taken a shine to Georgia when he sees her moonlighting as a singer in a bar in Nashville on her night off.

Are Jake and Georgia able to find out what actually happened by sorting through all of the information and bodies that have been turning up? They come at this case from different angles; Georgia depends mainly on the scientific aspects of solving a case and Jake is the old fashioned cop who knows how to go about asking the right questions to the right people. Seeing that they are on two different sides of solving crimes are they able to put their differences aside and see if there is anything that can come of their personal lives.

Mary Burton is one hell of a crime/thriller author and she sure knows how to put a good story together. It’s not until the very end that you find out what the heck really happened and who was actually involved. As for Jake and Georgia, she had you rooting for them all along without losing a beat when they were dealing with these crazy murders.

This book was provided as an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.

Stayed up all night reading this twisty good tales of old lies and sins come home to root. The story has good pacing and so many dark characters you don't know who to suspect first. Just the premise hooked me, three teenagers go into the woods but only one ever comes out and they don't remember a thing. Tana French anyone? Unlike In the Woods this story has resolution and a happy ending. If you like Kendra Elliot's Bone Secrets series you will like this story. I definitely plan on reading the series. My complaints would be the lack of action sequences, real fear, and I was not feeling the heat between Bishop and Morgan. Jake Bishop is no Mason Callahan but few are...

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. I really enjoyed this book however, I started losing enthusiasm with it towards the end. I thought it ran a bit long and once I knew how it was going to end , I just wanted to wrap it up. The author writes very well and I liked the characters alot. I would recommend this as a good mystery.

Story 3.5 Stars rounded up. Narration 4 stars
There’s a romance but not a very in depth one. Lots of thinking about each other and then they’re together. I love Burton’s work but this wasn’t the best as far as the romance. Plus, I didn’t like the hero until pretty far into the book.

For the most part though, I enjoyed the story and the mystery element. I really liked Georgia, the heroine. As far a narration, this narrator is new to me and I was so used to her other narrator. It took me awhile to acclimate myself to someone new. At times I didn’t like the way she voiced Georgia, at other times it was fine.

I would recommend this to adult romantic suspense readers because there is a good mystery here even if the romance is a tad lacking.

Wow. Pretty twisted. Expect the unexpected. Still the characters are the same as previous characters. I feel like this author add a bit of “romance” which is nothing more than a single explicit sex scene and a unnecessary declaration of love for characters who don’t know enough about each other to say that only so the book can be classified as romantic suspense. This add in diminishes the book. The book would be a 1000xs better without it. I guessed at some of the plot. This narrator was better than the last. I knew by voice who was speaking.

This absorbing romantic suspense had a very intense beginning. The plot had me going back and forth on who the bad guy might be. I was interested in the details of solving the crime right along with the main characters from both their perspectives, however, the romance was back burner. Forensic technician Georgia is assigned to work with detective Jake on a cold case about two missing teens.
