Desert Kings #4

Amahd: Captivated by the Sheikh

In love with her royal boss

Amahd Al Kilanjar is all work and no play. Yes, he needs to choose a sensible wife and produce an heir, but he’ll fit that into his schedule when the time is right…or so he thinks.

Mackenzie “Mac” Malone travels to Ubar for a job in the oilfields, and is startled when an innocent flirtation with a handsome stranger leads to an explosive kiss.

A Texas country girl and a prince from an ancient dynasty? Impossible, surely…or is it?

Uh-oh. Mackenzie felt her body melt like hot caramel sauce in Amahd’s firm embrace. Dammit! How did he do this to her? One minute she was risking her job insulting him and the next he was teasing the inside of her mouth with his hot tongue.
Heat flashed through her, more intense than any anger at herself or him. There was something between them. Something undeniable, urgent, impossible to ignore.
“Come with me.” His fierce whisper was a command she didn’t have the power to ignore. He didn’t wait for an answer but tugged her by the hand. They hurried along the corridor—which was mercifully empty—toward a private hallway she’d never been down before.
He pressed the key code on a tall arched door and pulled her into a cool room with austere white walls and windows shaded by white curtains. Once they were inside he kicked the door closed and kissed her with ferocity that made her toes and fingers curl.
She could stop this right now. She knew that. This was the affair he’d politely asked for and which she’d refused to agree to. It was happening anyway.
She should stop it.
If she had the strength and willpower to stop kissing him for even one second.
Which she didn’t.

Jennifer Lewis is the USA Today bestselling author of more than thirty books, which have been translated into more than twenty languages.

"I’ve been making up stories since the day I was born. I always loved to draw as well as write and as a child I drew graphic novellas featuring penniless but plucky Cinderella heroines. My love of daydreaming earned me the nickname “Dozy Duck” in Kindergarten, and I still consider staring into space to be a constructive activity.

I was born in Manhattan but my family moved to London when I was six months old, toting me along in a cat basket. I grew up as a Brit and traveled extensively in Europe during my only-slightly-misspent formative years.

I came back to the States to earn a bachelor’s degree in Semiotics from Brown University and begin a journey into the world of trans-Atlantic accents that I have still not fully emerged from. On graduation I returned to New York, where I learned to explain Semiotics on job interviews (“It’s the study of signs and systems of meaning!”) and to apply my knowledge in a very enjoyable career at a television museum.

While organizing exhibits on subjects ranging from Elvis Presley to Monty Python, I began to experiment with writing my own stories. It was quite a revelation to discover that the tales I’d been dreaming up forever could actually be turned into books. After a couple of detours--my son and my daughter--I focused all my creative energy on writing and my first book came out from Silhouette Desire in 2007.

I live in South Florida with my family, which includes an adorable greyhound and four horses.

Aaaaaaaaaa not bad,but didn't really do it for me...

Soo far since I started getting lost in love w/sexy seductive men from desert countries sheikhs and princes and the lot, sadly I've only found one authors series and one book by another truly to my liking.... And even I wanted to slap a few of the H's & h's around for blazing stupidity or an overwhelming amount of stubbornness that might make a donkey blush ;) Now this is the 1st book I've read in this series and thankfully is was written in such a way that ,well at least for me I had no problems reading and understanding it w/out the others... This was a nice story,a frustrating story but nice, especially if you don't mind the type where most of the story seems to take place in the MC's own heads than actually talking to each other ,if your not a fan of the over use of ( inner monologuing ) instead of outer dialoguing then like myself this will work a nerve.... Deep sigh at least 70% of the story is them going, will they /won't they in their own heads while interfering but well meaning sister in laws work to push them together, while as usual h is wanting the H's love and passion hoping to find love and Not a broken heart ,while the H on the other hand goes from trying to ignore her and how she distracts him to finally wanting to sex her out of his system at about 80% thru the book ( pacing on percents is thrown off by story ending at about 75% for Christmas Wedding story) ... Soo your thinking there's still more story to be had but actually NOT!! Since another story was there I didn't know about ;( Honestly this book frustrated the HELL out me, Mac the h drove me nuts for the longest, she and the H ( can't remember how to spell his name) had ONE kiss ( not sex,of ANY kind, not a one night stand) Just one Kiss! And yet it's the end all be all according to the near constant inner monologuing about it(Damn,I've never had a single kiss that good) , seriously, I don't drink but if I did ,and had a drink every time she thought about that one damn kiss ? I'd have been drip I in No time!!! At least that's how it felt!!! Constantly on about that kiss,it felt like two stories one was some jerk trying to hurt/scare them off over oil leases and the will them won't they ,while the h obsesses over a kiss then a few kisses when the H for a while decides Mac already having a child is too much for him, then finally lets have an affair and get it over w/ she's hurt and insulted says No,they have sex anyway a day or soo later... Next while he's congratulating himself on how cool he's being soo no one will know, she's feeling rejected and planning to quit ,he's the injured 3 days later he gives her a precious gift and confessing to love he'd never admitted to even in his head before and suddenly asking her to marry him...
Don't ya just love those 180's they'll have the H's do at the end of the book ? You know where you've never truly felt the connection on his side ,( coz he's spent the book running from it) then suddenly he has to have her ? Aaaaaaa no, I never felt the connection between them,it felt most of the book was either in her head w/her going over and over their precious kiss etc. or it was about the games they were gonna have and the plot against them they were out to stop... Their romance, where their both involved and engaged w/each other and not one of them just thinking about it or like the H ( trying Not to think about it) felt soo rare ,it never really felt like connected, and never once did they stop and discuss their hopes and or dreams, wants or desires w/each other ,just either desiring each other or denying each other ... Really boring to me .... Felt like just another contemporary romance that happened to be set in a desert than anything else... Not bad , but wasn't feeling it at all and wasn't interested in the 2 book that threw off the pacing ,of where I though I was in the story... Off to delete..

Jennifer Lewis – Desert Kings –Captivated by the Sheikh- Amahd – Book 6-

First, sadly, this is the last book in the series, but what a great book to end the Desert Kings. I fell in love with each character, their trials and accomplishments that it is like leaving a good friend that you won’t see again.

I have enjoyed each book and perhaps book 6 may be my favorite. The two characters are so different that it was fun to see a mighty Prince fall. Amahd Al Kilanjar who is all work….. like all the time. He is so methodical in his thinking, of course without feelings, that he believes he will choose an Ubar bride and certainly never an American like his 2 brothers did. He knows that he will choose a “sensible” wife that will respect that his job will always come first.

Of course, in book 5, at the weddings of Zadir and Osman, he met a fiery redheaded beauty, Mackenzie “Mac” Malone. They danced and she put mistletoe over his head and a firestorm was experienced like no other with that one kiss.

What Amahd didn’t know was that Mac has moved to Ubar and accepted a position in his Oil Field Company as a mechanic. Amahd could not comprehend that Mac was a ‘mechanic’ let alone a women mechanic from Texas of all places. Mac moved to Ubar to better herself and her 5 year old daughter. She was a single mom because her now x-boyfriend didn’t want anything to do with parenthood.

Each time they are together, the attraction grows stronger. In fact, it was so strong that Amahd asked her if she would be his mistress. What? Of courses that didn’t go so well. But, when Amahd was shot when they found the terrorist that was been after the 3 brothers, Mac didn’t care who knew she cared and that is when she told him she loved him. Of course, Amahd didn’t hear her because he was unconscious.

I can hope that the author will take mercy on all of us and write a novella with an update on the entire “clan”, perhaps 5 -10 years allowing us to find out what all the brothers have done to move Ubar forward. And, of course we want to catch up on each couple and their children and all of their accomplishments.

Find out what happens with Mac and Amahd. Can Amahd come to understand that his best laid plans should be tossed out the window and go after the women he loves? Don’t miss this great book. You won’t regret it.

I loved this latest book in the Desert Kings series by Jennifer Lewis, each a stand alone, but with cross over characters. The brothers are Princes of their desert kingdoms and cannot become Kings of their land till each is married. Amahd plans to marry a woman who will be proper and do as she as told, as the women from his country are raised and to produce an heir. But he's a workaholic so it will be on his timetable. But sometimes what you think you want gets sidetracked by what your heart wants. In walks "Mac" whose come from Texas with her daughter to earn big money in the oil fields of Ubar, which is run by the Prince. Needles to say it's a surprise to Amahd the Mac is not a man, but a woman from his past that he once kissed. There is tension, and embarrassment, but they agree to dismiss it. Things don't always work out like planed and feelings and problems arise. This along with an unknown enemy trying to destroy the family make this a story filled with sexual desires, intrigue and danger. I don't do spoilers and have already said too much. If you've read any of the previous Desert King stories you will not be disappointed and if you haven't it will make you go out and get them. If you believe that romance is possible in impossible situations this book is for you and along the way you'll fall in love with the strong characters, their sexy interactions, intrigue and humor along the way.

The desert kingdom of Ubar is beautiful and deadly. As the rulers of this kingdom the sheikhs want to bring stability to their land, but an unknown enemy is determined to stop them. Amahd is a workaholic. He has no time for women and marriage. Why is he attracted to Mackenzie "Mac" Malone? After all she is a mechanic who works in his oil field and he wants a wife who will follow the traditions of his country. Mac is a single mother who loves her daughter and wants her to be safe and secure. She doesn't want to be involved with a Prince, but the heart wants what the heart wants. Their romance is both passionate and tender. These two may come from different worlds but they have so much in common. I love catching up with the rest of the Al Kilanjar family. They are a fascinating family who love on their own terms. Jennifer Lewis has written a fast paced and suspenseful story that has some interesting twists. I loved the Desert Kings series with its compelling cast of characters. This series is one that I'm keeping for when I want to enjoy a feel good story.

Amahd Makes Some Changes

I waited anxiously for the book . Wish it had been a little longer , felt it was cut short . Which in the end caused the story to lose some of the magic of the Desert Kings Book Series . Really wish there were more in this series .

That's a very cute and adventure filled series. I do love the Sheikhs and all the attitudes of Royalty. The full lives of the characters in these books drew me in and mad ethos a wonderful tale of princesses and kings in real lives.
