That Girl Who Ran Off and Saved a Kingdom

Rate this book
A deadly curse. A dangerous heist. A very inconvenient vampire.

Eighteen-year-old Raven has survived heartbreak before, so she knows she can get through it again. But saving a magical realm from a bloodthirsty fae? That's another story. Raven is forced into a dangerous heist to steal an ancient spellbook powerful enough to break a deadly curse. There's just one problem: stealing the book will require skills only a seasoned thief possesses, forcing Raven to turn to Hunter, the vampire who shattered her trust.

Hunter has spent his entire life bound to darkness. As a thief for the Shadow Syndicate, deception and murder are simply part of the job. But falling for his mark changed everything. For the first time, Hunter wants to be more than the weapon he was raised to be. But saving Raven means betraying the only family he's ever known and possibly sacrificing his life.

With a cursed realm hanging in the balance and old feelings threatening to resurface, Raven must decide whether her too-big heart is her greatest weakness or a weapon that can save them all.

That Girl Who Ran Off and Saved a Kingdom is the final book in the #ThatGirlWho duology. This story is a direct sequel to That Girl Who Ran Off and Kissed a Vampire.

"Because maybe the point of life was never to have everything figured out. Maybe the point was to step forward with my wounds present."

If that quote alone doesn't instantly pull you in, I don't know what will! 🖤✨

I am so satisfied with how this duology wrapped up. Watching Raven step up alongside her twin, Roslyn—and yes, get her hard-earned HEA with Hunter—was absolute perfection. (Confession: The author definitely had me sweating for a second wondering if we were actually getting that happy ending!)

What I loved most was Raven's growth. She starts this series so unsure of herself, but by the time she's figuring out her path at 18, it hits so close to home. Navigating those early adulthood years—feeling completely lost, stumbling through mistakes, and trying to figure out who you are—made her journey feel genuinely real.

Proof that determination and love really do conquer all. If you love high stakes, found family, and characters who learn to embrace their messy, beautiful growth, you need to add That Girl Who Ran Off and Saved a Kingdom to your TBR immediately! 🗡️📖

ARC Review from Story Origin
I really enjoyed this book! I finished That Girl Who Kissed a Vampire, and immediately started That Girl Who Ran Off and Saved a Kingdom! Raven continues her mission to break the curse. Hunter finds his way back to Raven to help her complete the mission with the help of her sister, Roslyn. Raven had a rough start, however she really grows into who she wants to be. Prisma is still my favorite!

Again, I devoured this book in one sitting, just like I did with book one! I absolutely love this world and these characters, and I’m SO glad things worked out the way they did. 😉🥰

But…surely this can’t be the last we see of Raven?! I would love more of her story—even if it’s just little snippets woven into a future story about Roslyn?! 👀

I’m not ready to let this world goooo. I need more Raven, more of these characters, more of EVERYTHING. 😭😭

This sequel picks up right where the first book ended, and this time we finally learn more about Raven's past and how the curse first came to be.

One of my favorite things about this duology is watching Raven grow.
At the start, she wasn't very confident and seemed pretty lost about where her life was headed. But throughout her journey, she learns so much about herself and slowly becomes braver and more willing to take control of her own future.

The romance was also really fun to read. I loved seeing Raven and Hunter team up again to break the curse. We also get to learn a bit more about Hunter's past, and it was nice seeing how committed he is to changing and leaving the Syndicate behind for good this time.

As much as I enjoyed the story, there were a few things I wish had been explored more.
I would have loved more sister moments between Raven and Roslyn, especially after spending their whole lives not even knowing the other existed.
Roslyn's life honestly sounds just as interesting, being the twin who grew up as a princess in this magical world and has her own responsibilities to deal with.
And of course, I'd love to know more about her romance with Sylas, the werewolf who also happens to be Hunter's old friend. I think their story could make a really great book on its own!

Overall, I had a great time with this duology and enjoyed the story from beginning to end.
The lovable characters, funny moments, simple but engaging plot, and magical world kept me invested the whole way through.

Thank you to Colored Pages Book Tour, the author and publisher for giving me an e-ARC of the book and for having me on this book tour. I’m leaving this review voluntarily!

ARC Review
I was excited to start the second book for this fun duology that McEntire has given us. I thought the cliffhanger we were left on in the first book was excellent! Again, the character development in this book was solid, but I do have to say there was one complaint that I had. I did not feel that Raven was very true to who she was with some pieces of the plot. What I mean by this was she did not seem to act true to her character. Raven was super witty in the first book and definitely made good, smart choices within the second. I just felt that some of her choices were more to facilitate things to move along with the story as they should vs what Raven would have actually done. I still felt that Raven was so well develeped as a person and multi-demensional in different ways. I felt that the relationships formed between Raven and her other-worldly counterparts were fun and real. This was such a good adventure and is well worth taking your time to enjoy, that is if you don’t speed read through it to know what happens next, just like I did!

ARC Review: I absolutely loved this book! Raven’s story and character are honestly so cool. I love the way she views the world, not that she was perfect or made no mistakes but she genuinely has her heart in the right place. I loved seeing more of Prisma. The coolest of unicorns. Legends say that unicorns are drawn to the pure of heart which makes so much sense as to why he liked Raven. He could tell she was a good person. I also loved Lyra and Xyra. They are girls girls for sure✨ I thought this was a great conclusion to the duology! It’s also a very ADHD friendly read. The pacing was fairly fast paced and kept you wanting to read more

Thank you to the Author for the Opportunity to read this! All opinions are my own

I really enjoyed the book and how the story progressed. Many of the characters were relatable, which was nice and refreshing.
I appreciated that the book was not 600 pages, but it felt a little too fast paced for my taste. Also some characters acted strange. Why did Sylas let Roslyn torture his childhood best friend and decided to kill him without letting him speak? Or why was Roslyn this cruel? I understand the characters have flaws, but for me it wasn't explained enough.
But overall it is a nice read that is perfect when you don't want to start a really long series or when you need a cute palette cleanser which still talks about some serious topics.

🩷🌷🗡 A very good sequel and conclusion.

Astride her dragon, Xyra, young Raven savored the incredible sensations she was experiencing.

They were on their way to Avalor...

>>>>>

A very good sequel and conclusion to Raven’s perilous adventures, featuring many unexpected turns, plenty of lingering suspense, and a mysterious, open-ended finale.

- Will the two sisters reunite?

- Will the curse be lifted?

A captivating fantasy read for fans of the genre!
Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed this gripping two-part series.

This was a good conclusion to Raven and Hunter's story. I liked the growth I saw for both characters.

Hunter has to confront the bad things he's done up to this point and work to make amends. His story picks up right were Kissed a Vampire ends, with him accidentally coming across Roslyn, Raven sister. I loved the time we spend with them, meeting Roslyn and getting to know more of the people im Hunter's life.

For Raven, she has to face her fears of moving forward in life. At the end of Kissed a Vampire, she is in Avalor and quickly met with the realization that saving the day isn't as easy as strolling up and breaking the curse. Through the trials and tribulations, she has to realize what makes life worth living.

I loved book one, but the sequel wrapped up a little too quickly for all the build up. The baddies gave up way too quickly and Raven’s sister definitely needed more page time for me to like her. She and Hunter's werewolf friend were introduced basically as villains and then suddenly we like them? It just felt rushed to me. It was a fun, quick read though.

An ARC review.
A satisfying conclusion to book one.
There were some characters I wished had some more screentime. But otherwise it was a nice cozy-ish read.

Looking for a cozy adventure with magic, far and magical creatures then this is for you.

It was good! I really enjoyed the journey. I loved the sense of found family, the idea that there could be a duplicate of myself out there, separated at birth. I loved the multiple POVs.
